Gaynor comes downstairs

Gaynor comes downstairs and goes into the kitchen, trying to ignore Hywel;  he asks, “Aren’t you going to get dressed?”

"I'm not going into school today"

but she has decided not to go into school today.   “I don’t think that will help,” he says, as she pours herself a cup of coffee.

"Why not admit you made a mistake?"

“Listen, why don’t you admit that you made a mistake about that jewellery?” he goes on, but she is quite adamant that she did not.

Gaynor is adamant that she did not

She stresses that she knows what her mother gave her, so he advises her to go into school and forget about it.

"Don't be so patronising, Hywel!"

“Don’t be so patronising, Hywel!” she snarls, “She’s stolen everything I had and you’re too blind to see the truth.”

Colin is hunting for porridge oats

At the chip shop flat, Colin is searching in vain for porridge oats for his breakfast,

"Do you want me to fry you an egg?"

and Britt volunteers to fry him an egg.

"Are you trying to kill me?"

“Are you trying to kill me?” he demands, “You know I’m trying to avoid fat and fried foods!”   She points out that his blood pressure is much better now, but he does not want to risk it going back up again.

"You're slim and fit, Col"

“Don’t you worry about what you eat – you’re slim and fit enough – you just need to slow down, that’s all,” Britt continues, but he decides to go to the shop to get some porridge.

"You're going to make yourself worse"

“You’re going to make yourself worse, worrying like this,” she warns.

"You reminding me doesn't help!"

“And having you reminding me of that doesn’t help!” he exclaims as she goes downstairs.

Dani is not feeling 100%

Dani is feeling rather queasy when Dylan comes in;  “Thanks for answering my calls!” she admonishes him,

"Giving me time to cool down, were you"

“You were giving me time to cool down, were you?”

Dylan maintains that he could not help it;

"Garry was threatening me!"

“Garry was warning and threatening me,” but she reminds him that not everything is about him and Garry.

"I've had enough of you two trying to get the better of each other"

“I’ve had enough of you trying to get the better of each other all the time!” she growls;  he admits that she is right and apologises.   “You didn’t say anything about the flat, did you?” she adds, and he is silent, but then answers that he did not say a word.

"I'd like to be more than a 'sleeping partner!"

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing that he knows about the salon,” Dylan continues, “At least, if you need my help we don’t have to hide – after all it’s a legitimate business arrangement, and I’d like to be more than just a ‘sleeping partner’.”

Dani looks reproachfully at him

When Dani gives him a reproachful look, he says that she knows what he means;  “You’re not on your own, is what I’m trying to say.”

They hear Aled coming upstairs, already telling Dani, “I’ve had a really exciting idea . . .”

Aled stops when he sees his father

but he stops abruptly when he sees his father there.

Dani explains that she and Aled are going to put a masterplan together this morning.   She goes on at Aled might as well know, as he is helping to launch the business, that Dylan has invested in the salon.

He welcomes the investment

Aled regards that as great, but Dylan seems anxious to leave,

"I'm going to have a look at the salon"

giving the excuse that he would like to have a look at the salon to see how it is coming along.   Dani tells him about the problem with the sinks,

He intends to sort out the sinks

and he will see if he can sort that out.

Dani notices that Aled is quiet

She can see that Aled has gone rather quiet.

The porridge is cooking . . .

Gaynor has visited Colin, and he wonders if she would like some porridge, which is now cooking on the hob.

. . . with Colin watching over it

She declines the invitation and then gets to the point of her visit;

Gaynor reveals her suspicions

“Colin, I’m pretty sure that Angharad is the person who’s scammed me.   I don’t know where to start.

She lists Angharad's misdemeanours

“She was wearing this necklace and bracelet – and I know they were Mam’s!” she continues, “And she did something to my food – Hywel’s was fine, but mine was disgusting – I couldn’t eat it!

"She's trying to make Hywel think I'm paranoid!"

“Shes trying to make Hywel think I’m paranoid!”

"Whoa – slow down, Gaynor!"

Colin urges her to calm down, as she insists that she is not paranoid;  he does not suspect that for a second.   “I know you – and I know Angharad!   Now, start again.”

Colin is reluctant to burn his porridge

He turns off the gas in order to give her his full attention.

"I didn't know you and Dylan were such good friends"

“I didn’t know you and Dylan were such good friends,” Aled comments, but Dani insists that it is a business arrangement;  they were discussing how the salon will do

"He offered to help – or invest"

and she was stressed when he offered to help – or rather, invest.

“And do you like him?” asks Aled, “I’m just wondering what you think of him.”   Dani considers that he has a good business head, and is a good person to have on board;  she would like to know why he is asking.

"Do you promise not to tell anyone?"

“If I tell you something, do you promise not to tell anyone?” he begins, and she does so promise.

"Dylan is my father"

“Dylan is my father,” he says, and this comes as a surprise to Dani.   “We haven’t known for long – we don’t really spend any time together – I’d like to see more of him, but there we are.”

"Things will improve with time"

Dani is sure that things will improve with time, but he groans, “Dylan said he would like to spend more time with me – but I think he was just saying that – I don’t think he likes me.

"I think he's ashamed of me"

“I just feel sometimes that he’s trying to avoid me – that he’s ashamed of me.   Don’t tell him, please.”

"No-one could be ashamed of you"

She is quite sure that he is wrong;  “No-one could be ashamed of you.”

He shows the nail polish for dogs

He changes the subject, pointing out that there is a special nail polish for dogs, and she instructs him to put it on the list.

"They were Mam's, I swear!"

Gaynor continues her explanation, “But when I looked, the writing had gone – they were Mam’s, I swear!”

"Yes, I remember them, Gaynor"

Colin can remember them and believes what Gaynor says.   “Hywel doesn’t – and Angharad has been so clever, bonding with him over losing a child.”

"When did she say her daughter died?"

“When did she say her daughter died?” enquires Colin, and is told that it was a couple of months ago;  “After she went to Australia, then?” he goes on, “She was there before lockdown –

"She was standing in front of Sydney Opera House"

“I saw the screensaver on her phone – she was standing in front of the Sydney Opera house.”

"Someone's been using my passport in Australia"

Gaynor informs him that Interpol say that someone has been travelling in Australia with a passport in her name;

"This is bound to prove it!"

“This is bound to prove it, isnt it?”

"I think you're right there, Gaynor"

Colin is confident that this is the case.

"I can only afford an assistant at the moment"

Dani has gone to see Dylan;  he asks if she is going to employ anyone else to work in the salon with her, but she can only afford an assistant at the moment.   She will be doing the colouring and the cutting, but he points out it will be a lot of work;

"I went out with someone who owned a salon"

“I went out with someone who owned a salon,” he recalls.

"Aled's Mam?"

“Aled’s Mam?” she suggests, and he says it was not her.   “He’s a nice lad and he thinks a lot of you,” she goes on.   He wonders if she came there to discuss Aled,

"You'll both be working on the salon"

and she acknowledges this is none of her business, but he will be working with her and Dylan is involved in the salon.

"It's complicated, Dani"

Dylan explains that it is complicated, and she remembers, “My relationship with my Dad was complicated, but he was still my father.”

"He's desperate to know his father"

Dylan is becoming angry, but Dani points out that Aled is desperate to know his father.

"I didn't really want to tell you this . . ."

She is told that he has a lot of issues, “Perhaps more than everyone else – I didn’t really want to tell you this, but he is responsible for DJ’s hit-and-run.   It was an accident, but . . .”

"Why didn't DJ report him?"

She is interested why DJ did not report him, and is informed that Dylan had a word with him, to persuade him that prison would be a terrible place for a vulnerable boy like Aled.

"I don't want to ruin your relationship"

“But I don’t want this to ruin your relationship – as you said, he’s a nice lad.”

This is a  lot for Dani to take in

Dani appreciates the information and leaves the house.

Someone has taken advantage of the promotion

A smartly-dressed man leaves the café

"Don't tell me he needs free soup!"

where Britt comments, “Don’t tell me he needs free soup!   That suit costs more than I earn in a month!”   Kelly announces that they do not have any more prawn cocktail sandwiches.

"I'll have something free, Kelly"

Britt orders something free – and some tap water;

Kelly is in daffodil colours for St David's Day

Kelly emphasises that the free soup is for people on low incomes, and Britt snarls, “At this rate, I’ll be one of them!

"Not every business can afford this lefty rubbish"!

“Not every business can afford lefty rubbish like this!”

Colin tells her to calm down, and Kelly reminds her that the venture comes to an end this week;

"Too many people are taking advantage"

“Because too many people are taking advantage!”   Britt is glad that this silly idea is over,

"Do you have any fat-free dressing?"

and Colin would like a chicken salad and a pot of tea, enquiring if Kelly has a fat-free dressing.

"He's obsessed with his blood pressure!"

Britt is insistent that he does not need to eat fat-free, ranting, “He’s becoming obsessed with his blood pressure – we’ve been to see the doctor.”   He explains that he collapsed the other day and is just trying to look after himself.

"Do you remember what happened to Dad?"

Britt is adamant that now he has the tablets, he can have one or two cheat days.   “Do you remember what happened to Dad?” he says, “A heart attack like that will happen to me, if you keep stressing me out all the time!”

He storms out of the café

He gets up and hurries out of the café;

"What's that all about?"

Britt wonders what has got into him.

"Did you get the message about dog shampoo?"

Aled has been trying to contact Dani, wondering if she got the message about dog shampoos.

"I heard about you and the hit-and-run"

“I heard about you and DJ,” she tells him, “The hit-and-run.   I went over there to persuade Dylan to spend more time with you,” and Aled reminds her that he asked her not to do that.   “I was trying to help!” she argues,

"I have a right to know who I'm employing"

“Perhaps I have a right to know who I’m employing.”

"I wasn't thinking straight"

He explains that he was not thinking straight, and Dylan had upset him, alleging, “He didn’t want anything to do with me –  I wanted to hurt Dylan like he hurt me!”

"So you were trying to hit Dylan"

She realises that Dylan was the one he was trying to hit,

"I swerved – but DJ was in the way"

and despite Aled’s protestation that he changed his mind and swerved, but DJ was in the way,

"You'd better go!"

she emphatically orders him to go.

"I'm sure you and Kelly think I'm a clown"

Colin is looking out of the window of the chip shop flat when Britt returns and apologises for upsetting him;  “I’m sure you and Kelly think I’m a clown,” he says,

"You should have said if you were worried"

and she replies that is nothing new.   He should have said if he was worried about his father.

“I had a dream about him the other night,” Colin tells her,

"Dreams like that upset people"

and she knows that dreams like that upset people.

"Dad was a slim, fit guy"

“Yes, but it made me think about how he died – a slim, fit guy, with no sign that he was ill.”

"Bur you've caught the problem in time"

Britt explains that he has caught the problem in time and has to stop worrying, or he will make himself ill.   “I know that, thank you, doctor!” he snaps, then says he is sorry and does not know what is wrong with him.

"I just feel so stressed all the time"

“I just feel so stressed all the time.”

"Kelly has suggested something that will work"

Britt reveals that she had a word with Kelly, who suggested something that will probably be ideal for him.

Gaynor is sitting at home, looking rather happy, when she hears the front door open and assumes that it is Hywel.

"I just want to make things right"

However Angharad walks in, maintaining that she just wants to make things right.

"We have nothing to say to each other"

“We have nothing to say to each other!” roars Gaynor.

Gaynor listens to her spiel

“I know things haven’t always been easy between us, but I see us more as two sisters than just friends – as family,” Angharad goes on, “That’s why I relied on you so much after everything that happened with Delyth.”

"When did you say she died?"

After listening to this, Gaynor asks, “When did you say she died?” and is told that it was 3 January.   “Did she go to Australia with you?” is the next question,

"I've never been to Australia"

and Angharad maintains that she has never been to Australia.

"Photo on your phone – passport in my name!"

“Colin saw a photo on your phone – you used a passport in my name – it’s over, Angharad!   You’ve been caught!” Gaynor triumphantly informs her,

She appears to be upset

and again Angharad appears to be turning on the tears.

A meditation session is underway . . .

In the chip shop flat we see candles and incense burning, and there is the twanging sound of Oriental music, but this does not appear to be working with Colin,

. . . but not having the desired effect

who complains, “My mind is like a train when I do something like this!”

"You only need to do a couple of minutes"

Britt assures him that he only needs to do a couple of minutes to start with, stressing that meditating is better than worrying about imminent death.

He considers that dream about his father may be a sign that something is going to happen to him.   Britt explains that his Dad was just trying to say hello;

"I have dreams about Brandon"

“I have dreams like that about Brandon all the time,”

The meditation resumes

and she encourages him to restart the meditation.

"There never was a Delyth, I assume"

“There never was a Delyth, I assume,” says Gaynor, and Angharad looks suitably mournful;  she alleges that she cannot have children, and Gaynor wonders how she can tell such lies.

Then Angharad bursts out laughing

Then Angharad suddenly bursts out laughing;  “I’m just thinking of you and Colin, like two little Miss Marples!”   Gaynor proposes that they will see how much laughing she does in front of the police.

"You sound like a real head teacher now!"

“Ooh – you sound like a real head teacher now!” Angharad exclaims, “I’m in trouble!”

"Detective Phillips, please"

Gaynor has to hold on to speak to Detective Phillips;

"I was so careless, wasn't I?"

“I was so careless, wasn’t I?” Angharad muses, “Using a photo of myself in Australia as a screensaver.

"You don't think Colin seeing that was an accident?"

“You don’t really think Colin seeing that was an accident, do you?   Don’t you understand?

"If I go to prison, you'll come with me!"

None of this happened by accident.   And, yes, if I go to prison, you’ll be coming with me!”

Gaynor is puzzled

Gaynor looks very puzzled,

"This amazing scam we've pulled off together!"

so she explains, “This amazing scam we’ve pulled off together – you lose everything, then you get your money back from the insurance company, while the original money –

"Your half of it is in the safe box"

“or your half of it – is in the safe box in the bank!

"Guess whose ID I used?"

“And guess whose ID I used?   I’ve been practising your signature for months.”

"Everything you need to get into your safe box"

Angharad takes a brown envelope from her back pocket;  “Everything you need to get into your safe box.”

Gaynor vows that she is not touching that that money;

"I know you won't talk to the police"

“That’s up to you, but I know you won’t talk to the police, because I have a very different version of things – and evidence!”

"Why are you doing this?"

Gaynor cannot understand why she is doing this, and the only answer she receives is, “I’m not going to tell you now –

"I'm not finished with you yet!"

“because I’m not finished with you yet!”

With a smug grin on her face, she leaves the house, just as Detective Phillips answers the phone;

Gaynor quickly cancels the call

Gaynor is quick to cancel the call, and looks terror-stricken.
