Jaclyn looks at Mother's Day cards

Jaclyn is eating chocolates and looking at her Mother’s Day cards;

"Chocolate for breakfast?"
Gerwyn comments, “Chocolate for breakfast?” and she replies that it is only one.
"To the best mother ever"
She draws his attention to the writing in the card;  “To the best mother ever,” she reads, “We’re lucky, aren’t we?   I know that Tes can be a madam sometimes, but they’re good kids.”
"They're lucky to have the best mother ever"
Gerwyn maintains that they are lucky too, to have the best mother ever.
"You're only after the chocolate!"
She realises that he is only after the chocolates, and after taking one, he leaves for work.
Iolo is feeling the effects of last night
Iolo come downstairs, not looking at all well;  we see that he has a black eye, as a result of Mathew’s action last night,
He is not happy to find Angharad there
and he gets a surprise when he walks into the kitchen, as Angharad is sitting there, eating some toast.
"I couldn't leave you on your own last night"
“I couldn’t leave you on your own last night – you were plastered!” she informs him, “Do you want any breakfast?”   He cannot face it, and says that he feels terrible.
"A couple of lagers, gallons of gin – and a punch in the face!"
“Of course you do – a couple of lagers, gallons of gin, and a punch in the face!” she goes on, and although Iolo does not want to talk about it, she adds that he should be straight on the phone to the police.   “You can’t just punch someone!” she rages.
"You can't just snog people either"
“And you can’t just snog people either,” Iolo groans, “And being drunk is no excuse.”
"I'll have a black coffee"
Mark has just used the last of the milk in his cup of tea, and Debbie concludes that she will have to make do with a black coffee;  she asks him to get another bottle of milk on his way home from work.
"Go to the shop and get some"
“Go to the shop,” he tells her, “You can’t stand black coffee.”
"Those dealers are after me!"
She is very reluctant to go out;  “What about those dealers?   They’re after me,” she exclaims, but Mark is confident they will not see her in the shop in Cwmderi.
She peers anxiously out of the window,
"You can't stay inside all the time!"
as Mark assures her that she will be safe;  “You can’t stay inside all the time,” but she insists that she cannot go out.
"Look, have my cup of tea"
He gives her his cup of tea, and will bring back some milk later.
Jaclyn peruses Cwm Ni . . .
Jaclyn is reading the latest issue of Cwm Ni,
. . . which celebrates Gwern's achievement
and notices a photo of Gwern, with the caption, “Congratulations to Gwern Monk on the second prize in this year’s reading quiz.   Keep going, Gwern!”
"I forgot my phone charger"
Gerwyn returns home to collect his phone charger, and she directs him to the top drawer;  “It’s like blinking Silverstone in the garage today – everybody wants everything right now.”
"It must have been hard for Gwern on Mother's Day"
Jaclyn asks him if he has heard how Gwern is;  “It must have been hard for him on Mother’s Day without his mother.   Do you think they would have let him see his mother in prison?   Perhaps he did that on Sunday.”
"Garry's good with him – and Dani"
Gerwyn is sure that Gwern will be OK, as Garry is good with him – and Dani.
"But Dani's not his mother"
She points out that Dani is not his mother,
"Perhaps he's better off with Dani"
but Gerwyn considers that perhaps he is better off with Dani, as Gwyneth is far from perfect.
"Mind you leave me a strawberry one!"
As he is about to return to the garage, she explains that it is not fair;
"Gwyneth shouldn't be in jail – it should be me!"
“Gwyneth shouldn’t be the one in jail – it should be me!”
"No – you mean 'us'"
Gerwyn corrects her that she means ‘us’, rather than ‘me’.
“We can’t do anything, Jac – what’s done is done,” he continues,
"I ought to go to the police, Ger"
but she thinks she ought to go to the police.   He insists that their family comes first,
"Yes, OK, you're right"
and she pretends that she agrees with him, so he goes back to the garage.
Iolo is ashamed of himself
As Iolo and Angharad come out of the door of number 7, he says that he feels sick, and explains that it is not a hangover, but shame.
"What did the other guy look like, then?"
Rhys is passing, and wonders what the other guy looked like;  “Did you have a good night?”
"I thought that Mathew . . ."
Iolo confesses, “I had too much to drink, and then I thought that Mathew . . .”   Rhys has already heard the story, as it is all around the village;  “You didn’t really think that Mathew is gay, did you?”
"He was giving out all the signals"
Angharad is adamant that Mathew was giving out all the signals.
“Mathew?   He is nice with everyone – he’s not flirting!” Rhys laughs, and Iolo realises that now;
Iolo walks away across the road
he walks away towards the shop, and Angharad says she cannot understand why everybody is making such a fuss.
"We don't usually have punch-ups on Tuesday nights"
“We don’t usually have punch-ups in Cwmderi on a Tuesday night!” Rhys observes,
"Iolo wasn't the one doing the punching!"
and she is eager to point out that Iolo was not the one doing the punching.
Mathew is doing some cleaning
Iolo arrives in the shop flat, where Mathew is cleaning up, using Lidl W5 Multi Surface Cleaner, and offers his profuse apologies.   Mathew is still shocked himself,
"I know it's no excuse"
and Iolo acknowledges that it is no excuse;  “But I was drunk and nervous that Tyler was there – Angharad thought you were flirting with me.”
Mathew regards that as quite ridiculous, stressing that Iolo knows him better than that.
Angharad is always hiding in the background
As Angharad is listening outside the door,
"It was a totally stupid thing to do"
Iolo admits, “It was a totally stupid thing to do,” and Mathew agrees with him, then Angharad makes her entrance.
Then Angharad turns up
“You know I’m not gay, Iolo,” Mathew insists,
"You set off my 'gaydar' anyway!"
and Angharad maintains that he set off her ‘gaydar’, anyway.
"What has this got to do with you?"
Mathew demands what this has got to do with her.
“I’m Iolo’s friend – he could get you for assault!” she argues, and Iolo decides that is enough;  apologising once more, he turns to leave, and Mathew says that he is sorry about what happened as well.
"Are you sure you're not gay?"
He is concerned that Iolo’s eye looks pretty bad.
"You're doing everything these days, are you?"
Mark is just getting out of his car when Kath arrives home;  she comments, “You’re doing everything these days, are you?   While she sits around in there.   She got a face like someone’s stolen her dole!”   Mark points out that she is out on bail, and is worried.
"She's going to drag us all down with her!"
“You can’t see further than your nose, can you?” his mother snaps, “Why were you willing to let her back in?   She’s going to drag us all down with her, you know that!”
Debbie is listening
Debbie is listening from inside the house, as Kath drones on, “It’s not as if you’re back together, is it?”
"Debs is one of the family – and we help family, don't we?"
Debbie is extremely pleased to hear him tell his mother that is exactly what it is;  “To me, Debs is still one of the family – and we help family, don’t we?   Are you going to help me with the shopping, or what?”
Debbie finds this reassuring
This causes Debbie to actually smile.
"Aren't you happy to see me?"
Rhys is working in the kitchen when suddenly Ffion reappears;  “Aren’t are you happy to see me?’ she asks,
"You disappeared so suddenly"
and he says that of course he is – it is just that she disappeared so suddenly.   She admits that she should have spoken to him first,
"And you should have told Arwen"
and he stresses that she should have told Arwen.
"Why didn't you say you were coming home?"
“Why didn’t you say that you were coming home today?   I would have prepared and bought something nice for dinner,” he tells her,
"It's enough of a treat to be home"
but she does not want any fuss – it is enough of a treat to be home.   She has missed him and Arwen too;  Rhys predicts that Arwen will be over the moon now that her mother is home.
"Why did you want to stay with your mother?"
How was the trip up north?” he asks, and she replies that her mother would not leave her.   He cannot understand why she wanted to stay there;  “Are you willing to forgive her after she was so horrible to you?”
"It was the first place that came to mind"
Ffion explains that it was the first place that came to her mind, and she needed to escape for a while.
Rhys can understand that, but stresses, “You don’t have to run away to get some support, OK?   I’m here for you – no matter what.”
"Come and sit down for a moment, Rhys"
She invites him to come and sit down with her for a moment, but he is in a hurry to get back to work.
A card made by Arwen
Before he goes, he shows her the Mother’s Day card Arwen made for her;
"She spent hours doing it"
“She spent hours doing it,” he says,
Ffion looks apprehensive
and Ffion looks apprehensive.
Iolo considers he needs sleep . . .
In the café, Iolo is under the impression that he needs some sleep,
. . . but she recommends more alcohol
but Angharad recommends more drink, insisting that ‘hair of the dog’ is the best thing for a hangover.   He vows, “I’m never drinking alcohol again!”
Tyler comes in to collect his order from Gwen
Tyler comes in,
"I must go and talk to him"
and Iolo says he has to go and talk to him, to apologise for last night,
"It's nothing to do with Tyler"
but Angharad replies that it is nothing to do with Tyler, and he will only make a fool of himself.
Iolo is determined . . .
“Not as much as last night!” Iolo snarls.
. . . and follows Tyler into the alley
He follows Tyler across the road and through the alley;
"That black eye's a beauty!"
“That black eye’s a beauty,” Tyler comments and Iolo says he is sorry for last night.
"What is going on with you, Iol?"
“You should be apologising to Mathew,” is the reply, “What is going on with you?   Is it anything to do with us?”
That wooden building was not there before
Iolo is quite clear that he just misunderstood the situation with Mathew.
"I think you should stay off the booze for a while"
“Come on – you know that Mathew’s straight – I think you should stay off the booze for a while,” advises Tyler,
"Have a bit of self-respect"
“I know it’s hard when a relationship ends, but there’s no need to embarrass yourself – have a bit of self-respect!”
"Mathew was quite right to do what he did"
Iolo is adamant that it was just a one-off, and he was not himself;  “Mathew was quite right to do what he did!”
Tyler explains that what he did was not all right, and he should imagine how Matthew felt – though conceding that he should not have punched Iolo .
There she is, lurking again
Once again, Angharad is lurking nearby, as Tyler maintains that what Iolo did was worse;  “Look here!” growls Iolo,
"You win hands-down, Tyler!"
“If we are in a competition of who is more predatory, you win that hands-down!” and he angrily walks away,
"He felt sorry for me!"
complaining to Angharad that Tyler felt sorry for him.
"Jaclyn, are you here?"
Gerwyn arrives home at number 10 to find that Jaclyn is not there;  he finds a note on the table,
Gerwyn knows what this means
which simply reads, ‘sorry’, and can guess what that means.
"It's my pride that's hurting!"
Back home at number seven, the ubiquitous Angharad prescribes paracetamol, but Iolo advises that his head is not hurting, but rather it is his pride;  she tells him not to be such a ‘drama queen’.
"Listening to Tyler judging me!"
“Just listening to Tyler judging me!” he growls, but she reminds him they are not together any more.   She says that Tyler can go out on loads of dates and hook up with whoever he wants, but what Iolo needs is another man – a bit of attention.
"No I don't need another man!"
He does not agree with this;  “I embarrassed myself last night – and Tyler was right – it was a terrible thing to do to Mathew.   Would you say the same if a man tried to snog a woman like that?”
"How about a pizza and a film tonight?"
She assures him he will feel better in the morning, and suggests a pizza tonight, and a film – something from the 90s.   He is understandably becoming rather tired of her;
"You've been following me around all day!"
“Angharad, you’ve been following me around all day – I haven’t had any time to myself –
"Leave me alone!"
“please, leave me alone!”
She cannot handle rejection . . .
It seems that Angharad cannot take rejection,
. . .and flounces out of the house . . .
and flounces out of the house, without a further word,
. . , giving Iolo some much-needed peace
leaving Iolo in peace at last.
Jaclyn has gone the the police station . . .
At the local Dyfed Powys police station, Jaclyn walks up the steps, and looks nervously around;
. . . but is summoning up the courage to go in
as she approaches the door, her phone sounds,
She rejects a call from Gerwyn
and, seeing that it is a call from Gerwyn, she rejects it.
Ffion is about to hide the leaflet which is on the arm of the sofa
Hywel visits Ffion at Cysgod y Glyn, and she quickly hides the leaflet about her illness;
"How was North Wales?"
he asks, “How was North Wales?” and Ffion replies that the road gets longer every time she drives it.   He had been hoping to see Rhys, but he is still at the gym.
"Rhys was very good with Arwen"
“Rhys was very good with Arwen while you were away – I was proud of him,” he remarks.
Ffion sits down in tears
Ffion dissolves into tears, and Hywel wonders what is the matter;
"Please don't tell Rhys – I've got cirrhosis!"
her first words are, “Please don’t tell Rhys – I haven’t been with Mam – I’ve been in hospital.   I’ve got cirrhosis!”
"You have to tell him!"
Hywel is upset to hear this and insists that she has to tell Rhys;  she answers, “I know that, but I don’t want to spoil things between us.
"I will tell him – but not yet"
“I will tell him, honestly – but not yet!   I can’t.”
Those chocolate biscuits are a dead giveaway
Debbie brings Mark a cup of tea, plus some chocolate biscuits;  he recognises the signs, and asks, “What do you want?   It’s not my birthday, you know.”
"I just want to say thanks for everything"
She says that she just wanted to say thanks for everything;  “For letting me stay here – I’d be lost without you.”
"You're able to look after yourself, Debs"
He says that she has always been able to look after herself, but she points out that he gave her a safe place when she really needed it, and she will never forget that, especially now when it is not safe out there for her.
"Those dealers are after my blood!"
He accuses her of exaggerating, but she is quite convinced, “Those dealers are out for my blood – you’re the only thing I’ve got left!
"We've been through so much!"
“Look, you and me, we’ve been through so much.”
"Oh lovely – chocolate biscuits!"
At this point, their conversation is rudely interrupted by the arrival of Tyler, who is pleased to see chocolate biscuits, and asks if they have heard about Iolo.   “He tried to kiss Matthew last night – he was drunk.   I mean, what’s wrong with him?
"Even if Mathew was gay, he wouldn't be interested in Iolo!"
“Even if Mathew was gay, he wouldn’t be interested in Iolo!”
Gerwyn reaches the police station . . .
Gerwyn has now arrived at the police station, and finds Jaclyn, still hesitating outside the door;
. . . and asks what Jaclyn thinks she is doing
he asks what she is doing.
"What are we doing to Gwyneth?"
She replies, “What are we doing to Gwyneth?   Letting her take the blame,” but he maintains they have no choice.
“Of course we have a choice – to do the right thing,” she argues, but he takes her to one side, and explains that if they go in and tell the truth, they will both go to jail.
"But Gwyneth will be able to go back to Gwern"
“But Gwyneth can go back to Gwern,” she adds.
He remind her that their children will lose two parents;
"We have to put Guto and Tesni first"
“I don’t feel comfortable about this either, but we have to put Guto and Tesni first.   They don’t deserve to be punished for this.”
Jaclyn is quite clear, “I’m the one who’s guilty, Ger,” but he emphasises that time is what she needs, and pleads to be allowed to look after her.
It appears he has successfully talked her out of it
She nods her assent, and embraces him.
"Tyler doesn't shut up once he starts!"
Later, Mark and Debbie are alone again, and Debbie remarks, “I like Tyler, but he doesn’t shut up once he starts.”   She wants to talk to Mark;
"I've made a decision about my future . . ."
“I tried to tell you earlier – I’ve made a decision about my future – I can’t carry on like this –
". . . I'm moving to Spain"
“I’m moving to Spain.   It makes sense – I can’t stay here, afraid of my own shadow.   And I have a place to stay out there – with Dol.”
"You'd be on the run"
Mark reminds her that she is on bail, and will be on the run;
"I'd rather be on the run from the cops than those dealers"
“I’d rather be on the run from the cops than from those dealers,” she says, “Ricky isn’t here any more, so there’s nothing to keep me here.”
"I want you to come with me, Mark"
“What about me?” asks Mark, and she says she wants him to go with her,  confessing that she has never stopped loving him, not through everything, and insists they are meant to be together.   She describes the life they could have out there in the sun, just the two of them.
"But I've got responsibilities, Debs"
He agrees that he loves her too, and will love her for ever, but he has responsibilities here – and a good job;  “And what would Mam do without me?”
"She's like a cockroach – could survive a nuclear war!"
Debbie likens Kath to a cockroach, maintaining that she could survive a nuclear war, but Mark says that she is a softie really;  “Listen, Mark, isn’t it time you put yourself first for once?” Debbie demands.
