DJ is putting on weight with all those chips

As Sioned comes out of the shop, DJ passes on his morning run;  “I might work in the best chip shop in the Gwendraeth Valley, but I pay the price for enjoying them.”   

"You need to be fit to chase after Cwmderi's hooligans"

She says that he needs to be fit to chase after Cwmderi’s hooligans;  we see that Llinos is today working in the shop.

"I hear Eifion's left"

He asks how things are at Penrhewl, and Sioned replies that her mother does not want to talk much;  “I heard that Eifion’s left as well,” says DJ, “Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.”   As he is about to continue his run, 

"Could you see if anyone knows about Kath and Jim?"

Sioned wonders if he could ask around to see if anyone knows anything about Kath and Jim.   She would have known if they were having an affair, but cannot understand why he changed his will at the beginning of the year, and left those two fields to Kath.

"Perhaps they are related – you never know around here!"

He offers the suggestion that perhaps they are related;  “Brother and sister – you don’t know around here!”   Dylan walks past them, 

They arrive at number 10

and, with Jaclyn, goes into number 10.

"Did Debbie have anything to do with the drugs?"

She is eager to know if Debbie had anything to do with the drugs, and he replies that he did not know anything about it, 

"I can't keep tabs on everyone"

although he cannot keep tabs on everyone.   

"You must promise not to do anything"

“If I tell you something, you have to promise not to do anything,” she demands, “Too many people have been hurt as it is.”

Initially, he will not promise anything, so she decides not to tell him.   

"I'll discuss it with you first"

Then he agrees not to do anything without discussing it with her first, and she says, “I don’t know what Debbie’s up to, but something is not quite right.   She was here this week, and Tesni caught her going through the dresser – yesterday she gave me my key, and said she found it in the Deri.   When I got home, the back door was open – 

"Debbie has been to see Gwyneth"

“and she has been to see Gwyneth.”

"Remember what you promised"

Dylan realises that this may pose a problem, but she reminds him what he promised;  

"I'll keep our family safe"

“I’ll keep our family safe, OK?   I can promise you that,” he replies, and leaves the house.

"Two cappuccinos and one carrot cake"

In the café, Iori asks Debbie for two cappuccinos and one carrot cake, for him and Brenda to share.   “We want to fit into our string bikinis in the summer!” he tells her.

"Modern flat, two bedrooms"

Brenda borrows a pen from him, and goes to look at an advertisement on the board;  Iori notices that it reads, “Modern flat, two bedrooms,” and asks who it is for.   

"I'm looking to move somewhere"

She informs him that she is looking to move somewhere before she gets too comfortable in his house.   

"The longer I'm with you, the harder it is"

She maintains that the longer she is with him, the harder it will be.

He says that he has always hated having an empty house after having company;  “Listen, I know we haven’t discussed it, 

"You can stay with me for ever"

“but as far as I’m concerned, you can stay as long as you like – you can stay with me for ever.”   Brenda does her best to put on an incredulous expression, realising that her plan has worked perfectly.

Debbie brings over their order

Debbie brings over their order, and Iori announces he has good news;  “Don’t tell me you’re getting married?” sneers Debbie, 

"No – we're much too modern for that nonsense"

but Brenda insists they are much too modern for that nonsense.   

"Brenda's going to live with me for ever!"

“Brenda’s going to live with me for ever – and we will grow old together!” he goes on, 

Debbie does not welcome this news

and Debbie looks exceedingly disapproving.

Eileen is working on the farm accounts

At Penrhewl, Eileen is working on the farm accounts, 

"Did you see anyone in the village, Sioned?"

and asks Sioned if she saw anyone while she was down in the village;  she replies that DJ was asking after her.   Eileen reports that she has ordered more straw, and more wormer, as they will soon have to dose the cows – there is always something to do.

"You should take a break, Mam!"

Sioned suggests that she should take a break, as she was up so early this morning.   

Eileen is trying to tempt Eifion back to the farm

Eileen says, “I’ve created a package for Eifion – a pay rise, definite holidays and an arrangement for him to see the children – I’d like you to look through it.”

Sioned thought that they were coping, 

"I want Eifion back"

but Eileen wants him back at the farm.   “Before you contact Eifion, there’s something I’d like to suggest,” Sioned begins, 

"You'll see when I get back"

“You’ll see when I get back – I won’t be long.   If you don’t agree with me, I’ll contact Eifion myself, all right?”

Dylan arrives at the café . . . 

Dylan comes into the café with his usual self-satisfied smirk, and asks if Debbie is still serving breakfast;  

"Two sausage, two bacon, two eggs"

“I’ll have two sausages, two bacon and two eggs please – can I have brown toast instead of fried bread?”

A hooded figure brings in a package . . .

As he is speaking, a hooded figure comes into the café, puts down a package on the counter 

. . . and quickly leaves again

and walks out again.   

It is addressed to Debbie Collins

When Debbie sees the parcel, bearing her name, she demands who put it there, but no-one seems to know.   

The note is written in English

There is a box inside, and when she sees what it contains, complete with a note on top, warning her, in English, “Keep your nose out,” 

She drops the box on the floor

she drops it on the floor in shock, 

One customer is not surprised

and all but one of the customers wonder what has happened   

The significance is not lost on Debbie

There is a large knife with the name ‘DEBBIE’ written on it in red.

"You said you were willing to help, DJ"

Sioned has gone to Bryntirion, where she is trying to persuade DJ to assist her;  “You said you were willing to help,” but he points out that helping is different to working full-time.   “We’ll match your wages at the chip shop,” she promises, 

"The shifts fit in with my police work"

but he says that he enjoys working there, and the shifts fit in with his police work.

She agrees that they will give him flexible hours as well, and explains, “Mam wants Eifion back, and him being willing to come back is what worries me!   

"Eifion forged Jim's signature"

“Don’t tell Mam that you know, but Eifion has taken advantage – he forged Jim’s signature after he died.”

"That's fraud – you have to tell her!"

DJ makes it quite clear that is fraud, and that she has to tell her mother, but Sioned replies that she is going through enough already, and pleads with him that they need his help – 

"We need to save Penrhewl"

not just to do the job, but to save Penrhewl.

"What do you mean – I don't need to worry about Debbie?"

Jaclyn asks Dylan, “What do you mean – I don’t need to worry about Debbie?”   

"No-one's been hurt, no-one's going to jail"

He answers that no-one has been hurt, and no-one is going to jail.

Brenda is collecting the rest of her stuff

He is about to give more details when Brenda arrives, informing them she has come to collect the rest of her stuff, and instructs Iori to go upstairs and fetch it.   

"He's asked me to move in with him for ever"

“Iori’s asked me to move in with him for ever,” she proudly announces, “Not exactly as a tenant,” 

"They were looking very lovey-dovey in the café"

but Dylan comments they were looking very lovey-dovey in the café.

When Jaclyn asks if she will be paying him rent, 

"No – she's much too clever for that!"

Dylan is quick to reply, “No – she’s much too clever for that!”   Brenda insists that it is not their business, 

"This 'lovey-dovey' is pure nonsense!"

and this ‘lovey-dovey’ is pure nonsense.   She accuses them of thinking conventionally, and cannot handle anything else;  she recommends that they grow up, and leaves the house.

Debbie says she has been threatened by Jaclyn

Debbie is again in the visiting room, and advises Gwyneth that she is right about Jaclyn;  “I’ve been threatened!   A knife in a parcel, with a note warning to stop sticking my nose in.”   Gwyneth stresses that is not proof, as she assumes that Jaclyn did not deliver the knife herself.

"You have to get proof!"

“You have to get proof!” Gwyneth snarls, but Debbie is adamant that Jaclyn, and whoever she works for, are too powerful.   It is too dangerous, and she is not going to do it any more.

"Do you have any idea what I'm going to do?"

Sitting back in her chair, Gwyneth demands, “Do you have any idea what I’m going to do if you don’t help me?”   

"I can't help you, Gwyneth!"

Debbie pleads that if she could help, she would – but she cannot.

"Do you think I'm going to let you turn your back on me?"

“Do you honestly believe that I’m going to let you turn your back on me, and carry on with your comfortable little life?” Gwyneth menacingly demands, 

Debbie is frightened

then walks out of the room.

"That was a lovey meal, Jaclyn!"

Iori and Brenda have enjoyed their meal in the Deri, and thank Jaclyn, the chef.   

"Another couple of gin and tonics, please"

Iori orders another couple of gin and tonics, 

"She thinks I'm taking advantage of you"

and Brenda remarks that her daughter-in-law thinks that she is taking advantage of him.

"I wouldn't ask you to live with me if I thought that"

“I wouldn’t ask you to live with me for ever if I thought that,” he answers, 

"Perhaps we should discuss rent"

and Brenda suggests that perhaps they should discuss rent, but he will not hear of it;  

Iori is quite adamant about it

“I haven’t got a mortgage – I don’t need the money – if you want to contribute to the bills, fine, but not another penny, or you’re not coming to live with me!”

"I'd like you to come to the station"

Then they are surprised to see the arrival of DI Davies, who says, “Debbie Jones, I’d like you to come to the station to answer a few questions – I’ll explain at the station.”   

"Am I being arrested?"

Debbie wants to know if she is being arrested, 

"Some serious allegations have been made"

and is told, “No, but some serious allegations have been made against you, so it would be in your interests to come with me now.”

This attracts the customers' attention

Debbie has little choice but to do so, and the customers look on with interest;  Brenda wonders what that was about, and Iori is very uneasy.   

"I don't want the police sniffing around my house"

“I’ll tell you what – I don’t want the police sniffing around my house – not that I’ve got anything to hide, but . . .”

"It may be something to do with Gwyneth"

Brenda is under the impression that it may be something to do with Gwyneth, as they were friends, and worked together.   

"Do you thinks she's got something to do with that murder?"

He is now even more worried;  “You don’t think Debbie’s got something to do with that murder?” he says, “And the drugs?”   

"Remember what happened to Ricky"

She reminds him of what happened to Ricky.

"Tarah!   Your new farmhand . . ."

Sioned returns to the farm as her mother is doing the washing-up;  she announces their new farmhand, 

"DJ is willing to help . . ."

“DJ!”   He is sorry about what happened with Eifion, but is willing to help in any way he can.   “We’re going to work out a rota, which will fit in with his police duties,” enthuses Sioned, 

". . . whenever we need him"

“DJ is willing to help us whenever we need him.”

"I hope that Eifion will come back"

Eileen is not sure that he will be able to fit everything in, and is hoping that Eifion will come back;  

"Why don't we try DJ first?"

“Why don’t we try DJ first?” Sioned suggests, “He has worked here before.”   Eileen agrees to this, but says if it gets too much, she will contact Eifion.

"This is Bethan Price – or Jessie"

In the interview room, Debbie is shown a photo of Bethan Price, but she remarks that she has not seen her;   “Are you sure you have never seen her before?” the DI asks, 

"I might have seen her outside a food bank"

and Debbie replies that she may have seen her, months ago, outside a food bank.   

"Did you work for her – or sell drugs for her?"

“So you didn’t use to work for her?” is the next question, “And you never sold drugs for her?”

"Why are you asking this?"

Debbie becomes angry, wondering why she is being asked this, and it is explained that, “Some serious allegations have been made against you – 

"An allegation – by Gwyneth Jones"

“by your former employer, Gwyneth Jones.   She also says you were responsible for Bethan Price’s death.”

Debbie is adamant that she is lying because she is desperate, and the DI thought they were friends, 

"You've been to see her twice"

as Debbie has been to see her twice since she was arrested.   “Why don’t you tell me what’s going on?   We’re bound to find out sooner or later – why is she telling lies about you – if they are lies?”

"I refused to help her get evidence"

“Because I’ve refused to help her,” Debbie answers, “She wanted me to get evidence against Jaclyn Parry from Cwmderi – she’s convinced that Jaclyn has framed her.   I don’t know what kind of evidence – anything.   I refused to help her.”

"Where were you on Monday 9 December 2019?"

Debbie is asked where she was on Monday night, 9 December 2019, 

"I may have been in Llanelli"

and she cannot remember.   She thinks that she may have been in Llanelli;  “I was on my own – I wasn’t getting on well with Mark at the time.   I was trying to stay out of his way as much as I could.   I went out quite a lot in Llanelli during that time.   No-one can confirm that, but I know that not a single cell of my body was anywhere near that Jessie woman – 

"Her death was nothing to do with me!"

“because her death was nothing to do with me!   

"You don't have any evidence, do you?"

“You don’t have any evidence, do you?”

"You're free to go"

DI Davies advises that she is indeed free to go, adding that she could have left at any time.

Dylan puts out his advertising board

Dylan is putting out the Tapas advertising board when Jaclyn comes round the corner;  

"You promised!"

“Hey, you promised!” she growls at him, “Don’t try and look innocent!”   He alleges that he has no idea what she is talking about, 

"The police are interviewing Debbie"

so she goes on, “The police are interviewing Debbie – I don’t like the woman, but the more people we get into trouble, the more people will be after us.”

He assures her that he had nothing to do with it, but she insists, “It must be something to do with this business!”   

"It's not a bad thing if she is out of the way!"

He agrees that it may be possible, but it is not a bad thing for them if she is out of the way.

“Don’t you have any morals left at all?” she rages, “Too many have already been hurt!”   

"The things you've done to save your own skin"

He warns her that it is time she came down from that pedestal, and remembers some of the things she has done to save her own skin.   

"I've left my scarf in the house"

Their conversation is interrupted by Brenda, who says she has left her scarf in the house, 

Dylan considers it all a great laugh

and as they walk away, Dylan laughs.   

Brenda soon has her scarf

In the house, Brenda soon finds her scarf, 

"What do you think about Debbie, then?"

and comments, “What do you think about Debbie, then?   The police taking her from the Deri like that?   Iori and I think it’s something to do with Gwyneth.   Iori is worried – he doesn’t want people who sell drugs living in his house – they’re terrible people!   

"The woman who was killed sold drugs to schoolchildren"

“That woman who was killed sold drugs to schoolchildren – people like that deserve everything they get.”

"You could have Iori and his fortune all to yourself"

Jaclyn snarls, “It would suit you if Debbie got killed, or sent to jail – you could have Iori and his fortune all to yourself then!   

"You're sponging off an old man!"

“You’re so quick to judge, but you’re sponging off an old man!   Everyone is talking about you – and it turns Ger’s stomach, but he hasn’t got the guts to tell you!”

"I want a word with you, Debbie"

Iori arrives in the café, where he wants a word with Debbie, who is now back from the police station;  

"It was just a misunderstanding"

she explains that it was a misunderstanding, and it does not matter now.   

"I don't want the police sniffing round the house"

“Yes, it does – because I don’t want the police sniffing around the house – not that I’ve got anything to hide – but I feel happier when I’m one step ahead.”

"They wanted to know if I knew someone"

“They just wanted to know if I knew someone, that’s all,” Debbie replies, “And I don’t, so its over – they won’t want to talk to me again.”

"You can't kid a kidder, Debbie"

“You can’t kid a kidder,” he laughs, “The police would never go out of their way to look for someone if it wasn’t important.   If you want to stay with me, you need to tell me.   

"Is it something to do with Gwyneth?"

“Is it something to do with Gwyneth?   Drugs?”

"I'm not involved with drugs"

She insists that she is not involved with drugs, and he concludes, “If you won’t tell me, you leave me no choice but to ask you to leave.”   

"I don't have anywhere to go!"

She wails that she has nowhere to go, and he says he does not want to do this, but has the feeling that she is up to her neck in something, and he wants no part of it.   

"You've got until the end of the week"

“You’ve got until the end of the week,” he decides.
