6 April 2023

Dani is very troubled

Dani stands in the Deri flat, looking lost,

She takes competing from a drawer

she goes to a drawer

"How's Gwern?"

Britt wants to know how Gwern is and is told that he is stable;

"Garry's confessed everything to the police"

Dani goes on, “I thought you should know that Garry’s confessed everything to the police.   That he kidnapped Dylan, locked him in the garage, tied him up and he was there for days before Gwyneth finished the job.”

Britt is speechless and looks at Colin;

"Perhaps Dylan was threatening him"

“Well, he must have had a reason,” she snarls, “Perhaps Dylan was threatening him –

"That's what it was – self-defence"

“that’s what it was – self defence.”

"That's not what he just told me"

“That’s not what he’s just told me,” Dani goes on,

"I don't think even Garry will get out of this"

“I’m sorry, Britt, but I don’t think even Garry will get out of this.”

Britt is horrified

Britt is horrified.

Mark looks around number 7

Mark comes in through the back door of number 7 and looks around him;  he is stunned that Tyler will not be coming back

He picks up Tyler's mug . . .

and picks up the mug with the letter ‘T’ on it.

. . . and sinks into a chair

He sinks into the armchair just as the back door opens and his mother comes in.

"Where have you been?"

“Where have you been?   You’re not answering your phone,” she scolds him,

"I've been to the clinic"

and he explains that he has been to the clinic to have the boot off his foot.

"You're coming home with me"

“Right, go and pack your bag – you’re coming home with me,” she instructs him, “You don’t want to stay here with all Tyler’s things, poor dab.”

"I'm starting back on my round tomorrow"

Mark replies that he will hardly be there;  “I’m starting back on my round tomorrow,”

"I want to keep an eye one you, Mark"

but she will not listen to his excuses, insisting that he come back to Maes-y-Deri, so she can keep an eye on him.

"Someone set him up . . ."

ritt is still theorising about what happened toB Garry;  “Perhaps someone set him up – set a trap,”

". . . Gwyneth – or one of Dylan's mates"

and Colin wonders who would do that.   “I don’t know – Gwyneth perhaps – or one of Dylan’s mates?   Yes, I bet it was them who phoned the police.”

"No, I phoned the police"

Dani calmly announces, “No, it was me.   I was worried about Garry, but he was fine.”

"So all this is your fault!"

Britt cannot believe that all this is Dani’s fault,

"No, this is Garry's fault!"

but she is quick to point out, “No, this is Garry’s fault.”

"How could you be so stupid?"

“How could you be so stupid?” Britt demands,

"No – you had to go and phone the police!"

“Any normal person would have gone to see what was happening – but no, you had to go and phone the police!”

"I've given years of my life to that man"

Dani insists that she is glad that she did, because she has given years of her life to that man and what does she get?

"Garry loves you"

Britt angrily reminds her that Garry loves her;

"That's not enough!"

“That’s not enough!” says Dani.

"I'm going to get him out of that prison"

Britt vows that she is not going to turn her back on him – she is going to get him out of that prison and home where he belongs.

"The Monks don't confess to anything!"

“Come on, Colin – oh, I don’t think for a second that Garry confessed – because the Monks don’t confess to anything!”

"The only way was to tell the truth"

Dani shouts that he did not have any choice;  “The police suspected him of murder – the only way to prove that he didn’t kill Dylan was to tell the truth.   Garry’s not coming home!”

"Garry's not going down for this!"

Colin considers that Dani may be right, but Britt will not entertain that idea;  “No, she’s not – you’re wrong.   Garry’s not going down for this because I won’t let it happen!”   She storms out of the flat.

Hywel closes the blinds

We rejoin Hywel in the hospital, where he closes the blinds in order to hide his presence;

"I can't stop thinking about what happened"

Eileen is surprised to see him there, and he asks how she is feeling.   “Sorry, that’s a stupid question, isn’t it?   I can’t stop thinking about what happened,”

"Tyler is dead, isn't he?"

and Eileen knows that Tyler is dead.

"Gwyneth came out of nowhere"

“I relive those last few seconds over and over again – you must be the same.   It happened so quickly – Gwyneth came out of nowhere – you saw that for yourself.”

"Stop, Hywel – nurse!"

Eileen urges him to stop and calls for a nurse, then wants Hywel to leave.

Hywel has to leave

He does not have any alternative but to do so and Eileen is looking very concerned.

"We'll have to find a decent solicitor"

As they walk along the street past the Deri, Britt is growling, “We’ll have to find a decent solicitor,” and Colin points out that Garry already has a solicitor.

"No matter what it costs!"

“I want the top dog – it doesn’t matter what it costs as long as we get him out!”

Dylan's body is removed from the garage

They turn round and watch as a red bodybag is wheeled out of the garage and loaded into a private ambulance.

Britt hurries away

Then Britt walks away and will not reply when Colin asks where she is going.

Dani is also watching

Dani is also watching the scene from the Deri flat;

Gabriel is sitting with his teddy

across the room young Gabriel is sitting in his high chair.

"Do you remember who gave you this?"

She picks up a large teddy bear wearing a T-shirt with the name ‘DAD’.   “Do you remember who gave you this?” she asks, “Dadi – so we have to look after him and keep him safe.

Gabriel seems quite happy with the blue teddy

Gabriel seems to prefer the smaller blue Teddy.

"Dadi thought the world of you"

“You know Dadi thought the world of you,” she continues,

She receives a phone call

and then her phone sounds;  she answers it.

The sound of a flushing toilet can be heard

Kath urges Mark to hurry up;  as he comes out of the bathroom he comments, “The relationship between man and the pan is sacred, Mam – you need to respect that.”

"It's on the wardrobe and it's staying there"

She wonders what he has done with his bag, and he informs her, “It’s on top of the wardrobe and that’s where it’s staying.”

She pleads that she only wants him to stay for a couple of nights to get himself together,

"I'm fine where I am, Mam"

but he makes it quite clear that he is fine where he is.

"I'm your mother and I know what's best for you"

“I’m your mother and I know what’s best for you,’ she tells him.

"I am an adult, you know"

He stresses, “I know what’s best for me – I am an adult, you know.

"Mam, leave it!"

“Mam, leave it!”   He goes into the kitchen to fill the kettle, as Kath says that as he will not go to Maes-y-Deri, she will have to think of something else.

"Well, you can't stay here!"

“Well, you can’t stay here!” he snaps, but apparently she means she could help with shifting Tyler’s stuff.   “You can’t get rid of his stuff,” Mark protests, and she remarks that she is not going to take it to a car boot sale.

"We'll just move it upstairs"

“No, just move it upstairs out of sight – just to make things easier for you.”   He reluctantly agrees to her suggestion.

"Gwern will be home soon"

Dani, now in tears, tells Gabriel, “Do you know what?   Gwern will come home soon,”

He hides behind his teddy

as Gabriel hides behind his Tedi.

"We don't need anyone else, do we?"

“The gang will be back together – you and me, Seren and Gwern.   We don’t need anyone else, do we?”

Hywel is still hanging around

Hywel is still hanging around when the blinds are opened again by the nurse,

"Listen, I don't want to upset you, but . . ."

and he wastes no time of going in again, casually asking if Eileen  passed the tests with flying colours.   “Listen, Eileen, I don’t want to upset you, but I thought it would help if we discussed it and went went through it together.”

"You don't understand . . ."

“You don’t understand,” she replies, “The accident – I can’t remember it –

". . . I can't remember anything"

“I don’t remember being on a bus – I don’t even remember being at the wedding.   I’m trying, but . . .”

"Don't strain yourself, Eileen"

With this weight lifted from his mind, he tells her not to strain herself now;

"I know you want to talk"

she appreciates that he wants to talk, but he insists, “Forget about it now – I’ll go and give you some peace to recover.”

"That's a relief!"

He has a feeling of immense relief.

Britt sits outside the Deri

Britt is sitting outside the Deri and Colin joins her;

"Where have you been?"

he asks where she has been, and learns that she has been for a walk to clear her head.

"Gwern's having a CT scan today"

Dani comes out of the Deri, and Colin imagines that she is on her way to the hospital, but Gwern is having a CT scan today.   She says that things are looking promising, so she will be seeing him later.

"It's nice to hear some good news"

Colin says that it is nice to hear some good news,

"Shame his father isn't here to see him!"

nd Britt interrupts, “Yeah – it’s a shame his father isn’t here to see him!   What will Gwern say when he finds out you phoned the police?”

"That's unfair, Britt"

Dani regards that as unfair.

"I hope you're proud of yourself"

Britt continues, “Garry was the glue that held us together – and we’ve lost that now because of you!   I hope you’re proud of yourself.”   Dani walks away without another word.

"Don't leave much to the imagination"

As they sort out Tyler’s belongings, Kath looks unimpressed with a pair of blue briefs;  “They don’t leave much to the imagination, do they?”

"I didn't know where to look"

Mark will not miss them, and says he did not know where to look.

“What are we going to do with the weightlifting stuff?” Kath asks,

"I'll take them upstairs now . . ."

and Mark says that he will take them upstairs now, which his mother considers unlikely.

". . . or perhaps later"

On attempting to pick one up, he suggests that he might take them up later, as he has just had his boot removed.

"I'm sure Tyler's having a laugh at your expense"

“I’m sure Tyler’s having a laugh at your expense up there,” she comments, “He could lift them with his little finger.”

"Have you told Brynmor yet?"

“Have you told Brynmor yet?” Mark enquires,

"No – he has enough on his plate"

but she says that he has enough on his plate.   “Like what?” Mark probes further,

"Are you going to tell me what's really going on?"

“Are you going to tell me what’s really going on, or what?”

She simply wants to concentrate on shifting this stuff, but he insists that she has to tell the truth;  “Where’s Brynmor?”

Kath remains silent

She does not reply.

Hywel speaks to Rhys . . .

Hywel is in a much better humour now and rings Rhys to inform him that he is back home again.   Esther is not there;  “Gaynor has just gone to pick her up.”   Then there is a knock at the door, and he tells his son to look after himself – and Tesni.

. . . then has a mystery visitor

He opens the door and seems surprised at the identity of the caller, but we are not privileged is to see who it is at this stage.

Mark has now been told about Brynmor

It appears that Kath has now told Mark the full story about Brynmor, which causes him some surprise;  “Is Brynmor OK?” he asks, and Kath predicts that he has a tough time ahead of him.   “Should I send him a message?” Mark asks, but is forbidden from doing so.

"He wants to keep it quiet"

“I promised him I wouldn’t say anything to anyone,” Kath says, “He wants to keep it quiet.”

Mark will not breathe a word, and thinks that they have done enough for one day, so he tells his mother she can leave.   “If I want anything, I’ll phone you.”

"Let's raise a glass to Tyler"

She suggests that they go to the Deri, so they can raise a glass to Tyler,

"I'm working first thing tomorrow"

but he protests that he is working first thing tomorrow morning and does not want a hangover on his first shift.

It is the DI at Llwyncelyn

Hywel’s visitor is DI Fielding, who remarks that he is a difficult man to track down;  “I called the hospital and they said someone had discharged themselves.”

"I thought I'd get more rest here"

He replies that he thought he would get more rest at home.

"Is it OK if I have your phone?"

“I understand that you’ve spoken to one of my colleagues, but I’d like to get a clearer picture of what happened,” she goes on, “Is it OK if I have your phone?   We tend to ask after accidents like this – it helps to rule out a few things.”

"Would you say you were within the speed limit?"

He hands over the phone with no objections, and is asked, “Would you say that you were within the speed limit when it happened?”

"I was not very familiar with the bus"

He thinks he was going slower than that, as he was not very familiar with the bus itself, so was a bit more careful.

“And what about the car that came towards you?   Were the headlights on?”

"Look, there's something else"

Hywel says that it all happened so quickly, and there is something else he would like to tell her.

“I received a phone call while I was driving from my partner, Gaynor – I don’t know why I didn’t tell you this morning – my head was all over the place.

"I didn't answer it – Tyler did"

“I didn’t answer it – to be honest, Tyler answered it.”

"So you didn't talk to her at all?"

“So you didn’t talk to her at all?” asks the DI, and wants to know what time was this.

"About 12:30 or 12:45"

He estimates that it was 12:30am or 12:45am,

"Not long before the accident"

so she comments that it was not long before the accident.

"You should never have spoken to Dani like that"

Colin comes downstairs as Britt is looking through various paperwork;  “You should never have spoken to Dani like that, you know, Britt,” he says,

"I shall have to start this again now!"

but she moans that she is busy and will have to start her calculations again now.

“They are Garry’s papers!” he exclaims,

"I could swing for that woman!"

and she points out that Garry cannot run the business from prison.   “You can’t do all this on your own,” he says, but Britt demands who else is going to do it.

“I’m the only Monk left, thanks to Dani!” she snarls, “I could swing for that woman!”

"OK, Britt – that's enough!"

This is the last straw for Colin;  “OK, that’s enough!” he shouts, in a rare fit of rage,

"Dani is never going to see her brother again"

“You miss Garry, I understand – but Dani is never going to see her brother again – have you thought about that?

"I don't want to hear it, Britt!"

“I don’t want to hear it, Britt!   Dani’s lost Tyler – her children have lost their parents – that’s what being alone is!

"There's more to this world than the Monks!"

“Put yourself in someone else’s shoes for a change – there’s more to this world than the Monks!”

She has been well and truly told

Britt appears to be quite taken aback by his outburst.

"I'm so sorry for your loss, love"

In the Deri, Kath tells Dani, “I’m so sorry for your loss, love.   I know a lot of people criticised Tyler –

"After that scandal with Aled"

“and you can’t blame them after that scandal with Aled.”

"Not now, Kath"

Dani does not want to hear this now, but Kath ploughs on, “Honest, when he stayed with us at Maes-y-Deri, there was no-one nicer – and we’ll miss him very much.”

Dani has a text message

Dani thanks her for that, and then her phone rings;

"Cassie can't look after the children"

it is Cassie, to advise that she cannot look after the children now, and Dani was about to go to the hospital to see Gwern.

"I'll look after them"

Kath volunteers to look after them, but Dani is hesitant,

"They're a bit lively, mind"

pointing out that the children are rather lively and Gabriel is going through a very awkward stage.

"Mark was like that"

Kath says, “Don’t worry – Mark did that.   Do you want a drink to, well, raise a glass to Tyler?”

"Apple juice, please"

Dani asks for an apple juice.

"He was one in a million"

“Well, he was one in a million, wasn’t he – he wasn’t perfect, but who is?   I do know that Cwmderi will be a poorer place without him –

"Not just because he stole things, but . . ."

“and not just because he stole things, but . . .”   She suddenly realises what she has said

"To Tyler!"

merely proposes a toast, “To Tyler!”

"The police have been here"

is looking very anxious when Gaynor returns to Llwyncelyn, and announces, “The police have been here – they want a statement at the station, to confirm a few details,

"What are you going to tell them"

they want to know about those calls.   What are you going to tell them?”

"Well, that I phoned you"

“Well, that I phoned you –

"Gaynor, please!"

but I spoke to Tyler,” she replies

Hywel thinks he is 'out of the woods'

and Hywel is very pleased to hear that.

Kath is having problems with Gabriel

Dani is at the hospital and phones Kath to check how things are;  “Yes, he does that – sorry – how much landed on you?   The wet wipes are by the sink.”

An alarm sounds . . .

Then there is the sound of an emergency alarm and hospital staff on running to the ‘Resus’ room where Gwern is lying.

. . . but Dani is prevented from going in

Danny rushes to be with him, but is prevented from entering the room by a nurse.

It appears that Gwern's heart has stopped . . .

She can see that Gwern is in difficulties and appears to have ‘flat-lined’;

. . . and Dani cannot believe it

she is horrified.
