30 March 2023

Siôn seems to be having a good time

The wedding party continues, with large quantities of alcohol being consumed

Gaynor's hat is removed

and Gaynor has discarded her blue hat.

Gwyneth looks at what she has done

Meanwhile in the garage, Gwyneth stands at the edge of the inspection pit and looks down at her handiwork.   What she does not immediately notice is that Garry has also come in;

"We had to get rid of him!"

They glare at each other and she insists, “We had to get rid of him!”

He can see that she has killed Dylan;

"You were too much of a coward to do it!"

“I knew you were to much of a coward to do it yourself!” she snarls, “You said you’d sorted it – why did you lie to me, Garry?”

"This is such a mess"

He looks in disbelief at the scene before him;  “This is such a mess,” he groans.

"Were you going to keep him as a pet?"

Gwyneth wonders what he was going to do with Dylan – keep him as a pet –

Garry has no answer to that

but Garry does not know the answer to that.

"Now you have to get rid of him"

“This could have been sorted out a long time ago,” she reprimands him, “But you decided not to listen to me.   Now I’ve sorted out your mess, you have to get rid of him.”

"You killed Jaclyn"

Garry is quite aware that she killed Jaclyn,

"Don't talk nonsense, Garry"

but she tells him not to talk nonsense.

“I know!” he shouts, “I know – and you said – on Gwern’s life – that you didn’t do it!”

She maintains that all that is important now is to get rid of this body,

"It's going to stop now!"

but Garry insists that it is going to stop now – he is going to phone the police.

"He did not deserve this"

“This is all wrong – he did not deserve this.”

"He was the lowest of the low, Garry!"

Gwyneth disagrees;  “He was the lowest of the low, Garry, and you know it!   If we hadn’t done it, someone else would have.”

"Why did you kill Jaclyn?"

“And Jaclyn?   Why did you kill her?” he demands, “You’ve played us all, haven’t you?”

She warns that if he phones the police, it will be all over for him;  “How do you think Gwern will think, with his mother and father in prison?

"Get rid of him – once and for all!"

“Put Dylan in the car and get rid of him – once and for all!”

She gives Garry the wrecking bar

She picks up the wrecking bar and thrusts it into Garry’s hand,

"You'd better hurry!"

advising him, “You’d better hurry!”

Tesni leaves the Deri and sees . . .

The door of the Deri opens and Tesni comes out;

. . . Gwyneth leaving the garage

she is surprised to see Gwyneth coming from the garage and looking at her hands.   When Tesni calls to her, she can see that Gwyneth is looking very concerned, and asks if she is OK.

"I'm in a bit of a hurry"

“Yes, I’m fine – sorry, I’m in a bit of a hurry,” is the reply,

Tesni goes not investigate

so Tesni heads towards the garage,

Garry is at a very low ebb

where she finds Garry, completely distraught, with his head in his hands.

"Don't come any closer"

He cautions her not to come any closer, and she is anxious to know what has happened;  “Who’s lying there, Garry?” she asks, and he begs her not to look, assuring her that he is sorry.

She bursts into tears, screaming, “Let me go to him!” but Garry confirms that her uncle has gone.

"I have to do something"

“This isn’t happening,” she sobs, “I have to do something,”

Garry grabs her phone

and takes out her phone, but Garry snatches it from her.

"I need you to trust me"

I’m not going to hurt you – but I do need you to trust me,” he says;  she answers that she is not going to trust someone who did that.

"You killed Mam, too!"

He tries to convince her that it was not him, but she exclaims, “You killed Mam, too!”   Garry stresses that he is not a murderer, so she demands, “Who did it, then?”

Siôn and Mandy are still centre stage . . .

The dancing is still going on at The Glyndwr

. . . and Jinx is still watching Kelly

and Jinx is still watching Kelly.

"Can you go and  look for Gaynor for me?"

Cai brings over an orange juice for Hywel;  “Can you go and look for Gaynor for me?” Hywel asks, “I haven’t seen her for a while.”

"I'll need somewhere to stay for the Six Nations"

Dai, who appears to have had a few drinks, reminds DJ, “I’ll need somewhere to stay during the Six Nations next year,” and is told that the spare room will always be ready.

"Don't take any nonsense from the Irish'

The advice continues, “Don’t take any nonsense from the Irish – you know what they’re like.”

"How can I, with a father like you?"

DJ points out that he was brought up in Ireland, but Dai insists that he must never forget that he is a Welshman.   “How can I, with a father like you?” DJ replies.

“If there’s anything you need, phone me straightaway, do you hear?” is the next instruction, “I’m very proud of you.”

"My feet are killing me!"

Sioned appears, complaining that her feet are killing her and that she wants to go.

She gets an unexpected cwtch from Dai

Dai insists, “Come here for a cwtch before you go – look after him.”

She tells him to make sure he comes out to see them, and he says that he has already booked the B&B.

Siôn looks across at her mother . . .

Sioned looks across to where her mother is sitting and they leave the party,

. . . and Dai is going to miss DJ

Dai sighs to see his son going.

Sioned takes a final look . . .

Again Sioned looks at her mother,

. . . and Eileen does not appear happy

who does not appear to be happy.

Garry takes Tesni back to number 9

Tesni returns to number 9, where everything seems to be in a state of confusion;  she is accompanied by Garry,

"Sit there and don't move!"

who tells her to sit down and not to move.   “I’m going upstairs to get Gwern,” he says.

Tesni is about to make a phone call . . .

She takes out her phone and is about to make a very hurried call

. . . when Gwyneth comes in

when Gwyneth bursts in through the back door.

"It was you – you killed Mam!"

“It was you – you killed Mam!” Tesni snarls, and despite Gwyneth’s protestations that it was not supposed to happen, demands, “Are you going to kill me as well?”

"I think the world of you"

“Of course not – I think the world of you,” insists Gwyneth.   Tesni growls that she trusted Gwyneth – who killed them all.

"Where is he, Gwyneth?"

Garry comes downstairs, having not located Gwern;  “Where is he, Gwyneth?” he shouts, and loudly calls for his son,

"He's not here"

but is assured that Gwern is not there.

"If you've done something to him . . ."

“If you’ve done something to him . . .” Garry begins, but she maintains that she would never do anything to Gwern.   He is somewhere safe.

Gwern's phone has been left on the table

Garry dials a number, then a phone can be heard on the table.

Gwern is in the car outside

Gwern is sitting in the car outside the back gate of number 9, as Gwyneth repeats that he is safe.

"I didn't call them"

Then the distant sound of a siren can be heard, and Garry says that he did not call them.

"You're the one in trouble here, Garry, not me"

“You’re the one in trouble here, Garry, not me,” Gwyneth insists.

"Whatever happens, I'm ready to face it!"

He informs her that whatever happens to him, he is ready to face it;  “Are you?”

Not that knife again!

She quickly turns to the worktop and grabs a large knife, which she has been using to chop tomatoes, and brandishes it.

“If you come any closer, you’ll never see him again!” she snarls,

She escapes through the back door

and at the same time is backing out of the door.   Garry chases after her as the sirens are getting nearer.   Gwyneth jumps into the car, but has trouble starting the engine, while Garry is banging on the passenger window, shouting to Gwern.

"Don't do this!"

“Don’t do this – just open the door,” Garry pleads,

Tesni open the door for the police

as Tesni lets the police officers in through the front door.

"Gwyneth, please – you don't have to do this!"

“Gwyneth, please – you don’t have to do this!”

"I have a taser!"

but the police advise that they are carrying a taser.

Gwern is scared

At last the engine of the car starts, and Garry assures his son that he loves him.

The car is reversed rapidly along the back street

Garry is restrained by the officers

while Garry is restrained and taken back into the house.

Kelly and Jason are leaving

The guests are now leaving the hotel and appear to be in high spirits;  the taxi is waiting for the newlyweds.

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do"

Diane advises Jason, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,”

Iolo receives a surprise kiss

and he even kisses Iolo on the way to the taxi.

"The best day ever"

Anita concludes that it has been not just a good day, but the best day ever.   “You’re not angry because you weren’t there for the vows?” wonders Amanda, but her sister is of the opinion that it does not matter now,

"The most important things that Kelly is happy"

and the most important thing is that Kelly is happy – they cannot ask for more than that.

“And she’s made the right choice, hasn’t she?” adds Amanda;  Anita asks what she means by that.

"You know, getting married the way she wanted to"

“Well, you know, getting married the way she wanted to – I’m just glad that everything went all right without any major drama.”

"Hywel, I've found Gaynor!"

Cai comes out of the door and is amused by what he sees, so calls Hywel;  “I’ve found Gaynor!”

Gaynor in. drunken stupor

She is in a drunken stupor, lying on a bench, just outside the door,

Hywel is not impressed

and Hywel looks annoyed.

"She's taken Gwern"

The two police officers escort Garry through the house as Tesni is told that Gwyneth has taken Gwern.   Tesni tells the police that she will be OK on her own;

"I want to get as far away from here as possible"

“I just want to get as far away from here as possible.”

Garry is loaded into the car . . .

Garry is loaded into the police car as Tesni watches from the window.

Garry is in a state of desperation

As it is driven along the High Street, past MFC and the Deri, he looks despondent.

The minibus is loaded up

The minibus is waiting to take the guests home, with Colin and Britt the first to board;  they all appear to be in high spirits.

"You can't go if you're going to be sick!"

Hywel points out to Gaynor that she cannot go on the bus if she is going to be sick.   “Oh, Hywel, I’m going to be fine,” she insists,

She vomits into the bushes

and then vomits into the bushes.

"This bus will turn into a pumpkin, Hywel!"

As Hywel is supposed to be the minibus driver, Britt maintains that the bus will turn into a pumpkin in a minute, if he does not take them home.

"I'll look after her"

Iolo chivalrously volunteers to look after Gaynor, and they will get a taxi when she feels better.   Hywel tells him to make sure that Gaynor pays.

"You can pick Greta up instead"

Iolo is supposed to pick up Greta from Kath’s, so he delegates that task to Tyler, following which he can take her to number 7, and they will have breakfast together in the morning.

Tyler could not be more happy

Tyler is very happy about this, as he boards the minibus,

Gaynor is a pathetic sight

but Gaynor is obviously not feeling any better.

"Where are we going, Mam?"

Gwyneth is driving away from Cwmderi as fast as possible, and Gwern wants to know where they are going;  “To somewhere safe,” is the answer, “I’ve got  a friend in Birmingham –

"Stop asking stupid questions!"

“stop asking stupid questions!”

"Hywel's not answering, Iolo"

Gaynor is now attempting to contact Hywel, but he is not answering;  “He’s driving, isn’t he?” Iolo reminds her, “Come on – you’ll be laughing about it in the morning.”

"I've been having phone calls"

She confesses to him that she has been having phone calls;  “Just someone phoning the house and not saying anything – and now they started phoning my mobile.   The police are not interested, neither is Hywel – he says I’m obsessed.”

"I would be obsessed in that case"

Iolo agrees that he would be obsessed if he was getting creepy phone calls.

"I'm frightened, Iolo!"

“Yeah, in the middle of the night as well – I’m frightened, Iolo!” she wails

Iolo tries to comfort her

and he tries to comfort her..

The minibus heads homeward . . .

In the minibus there is some raucous singing going on, to the tune of ‘She’ll be coming round the mountain’;

. . . with the passengers singing loudly

‘There’s a pub in heaven, so they say,

And it’s full of deacons, so they say,

And they decide who can enter, so they say,

For everyone who is faithful.’

Tyler sends a text . . .

Tyler sends text to Iolo;

. . . thanking Iolo

‘Thanks for a perfect day’.

Gaynor is still trying to contact Hywel

Hywel’s phone is on the seat next to him and he can see there is a call from Gaynor;

"Leave it, Tyler!"

Tyler volunteers to answer it for him, but Hywel refuses, telling him to leave it.

The police are following . . .

Gwyneth can see a flashing blue light behind her,

. . . so Gwyneth swerves round a corner

so she swerves round a corner in a desperate bid to throw off her pursuers.

Hywel is distracted yet again

It is raining now and Hywel’s concentration is distracted by yet another phone call;  this time Tyler answers it.

"We're going to start a new life"

The blue light is no longer visible behind them, as Gwyneth tells Gwern, “I know it’s hard, but we’re going to start a new life – new names – it will be fun.”   Gwern is not enamoured by the prospect.   “Come on – what name would you like?

"Carwyn's a nice name"

“Carwyn’s a nice name - or Deio – I like Deio.”

"I want to go back to Dad"

Gwern wants to go back to his father but is informed that he cannot do that.   “That’s what I want!” he insists, “I don’t want to start a new life.”

Gwyneth tells him that he does not have any choice;

"Your Dad is a murderer"

“Your Dad is a murderer.”   Gwern takes exception to this, insisting that his father is not,

"Stop the car, Mam!"

and wanting her to stop the car,

However, she accelerates

but she simply accelerates.

"I can't believe you left me like that!"

Tyler is holding up the phone as Gaynor wails, “Oh, Hywel, I can’t believe you left me like that – after all the years I’ve looked after you when you were drunk!”

Hywel is becoming increasingly angry

"Remember when you fell asleep on the toilet?"

as she goes on, “Do you remember when you fell asleep on the toilet in the Deri?” and he demands that Tyler turn off the phone, now, seizes it, of course not looking where he is going.

Gwern reaches for the door handle

Gwyneth is still speeding along as Gwern undoes his safety belt and reaches for the door handle,

"Stop the car, Mam!"

again insisting that his mother stops the car.   The blue light is again behind them, so she replies that she cannot stop.

The bus passengers are now singing another ribald song [to the hymn tune Rachie by Caradog Roberts]

"Don't answer that phone again!"

when Hywel furiously tells Tyler not to answer the phone again,

The minibus . . .

and inevitably, that is the moment when the minibus

. . . is hit by Gwyneth's car

and Gwyneth’s car plough into each other.

There is an ominous silence . . .

Initially there is no sound, other than the pouring rain, as smoke begins to rise from the accident,

. . . as smoke begins to rise

and the police car pulls up close behind.
