Unsurprisingly, Dani does not feel like eating |
As they eat their meal, Wilko apologises that the meat is rather tough, but Dani has other reasons for not eating her food, remarking that she is not hungry.
![]() |
"Wait till you see what's for dessert" |
“You’ll change your mind when you see what’s for dessert,” he says, “Do you want anything to drink? There’s wine or vodka.”
Dani points out that he does not drink; “But you do – and I’ve made sure . . .” he begins.
![]() |
"I'm not Eluned" |
She abruptly reminds him, “I’m not Eluned – you do understand that, don’t you? So why am I here?”
![]() |
"I've already explained" |
He replies that they are going round and round in circles – he has already explained to her.
![]() |
"I was safe in Cwmderi" |
“I know – but I was safe in Cwmderi,” she protests.
Wilko laughs, “You really believe that, do you? Who would look after you if one of Dylan’s gang turned up? Garry – Kelly?
![]() |
"Tyler went down like a sack of potatoes!" |
“Tyler went down like a sack of potatoes!”
![]() |
"He was right – you did attack him!" |
Dani suddenly realises that he was the one who attacked Tyler; “He was right – you did attack him!”
![]() |
"I thought someone was trying to hurt you" |
Wilko gives the excuse that he did not know who it was and thought it was someone trying to hurt her; he insists that he is trying to protect her, and that she should not be scared of him.
“Everything will be fine now nobody’s here to distract me – right, icecream or custard?” he says, picking up the plates. As there is no reply,
![]() |
"Custard – that's what you usually have" |
he continues, “Custard – that’s what you usually have,” and Dani looks very scared.
![]() |
"Do you want another drink?" |
In the Deri, Garry has noticed everyone staring at him and goes to the bar to fetch another drink,
![]() |
"I haven't finished this one, Garry" |
although Andrea has not finished the present one.
![]() |
"What's going on?" |
He demands from the group of people looking at him, “What’s going on?”
![]() |
"Wilko's a bent copper – he's stalking Dani" |
Kelly summarises, “We think that Wilko’s a bent copper – he’s stalking Dani – secret cameras in the flat, and all that.”
![]() |
"If anything's happened to her . . ." |
Garry growls that he knew it; “If anything’s happened to her . . .” he threatens, immediately grabs his coat and leaves the Deri,
![]() |
Andrea wonders where he has gone |
much to Andrea’s annoyance. Once again Tyler rings Dani’s number, with no success.
![]() |
"People will come looking for me" |
As Wilko does the washing-up, Dani warns, “People will come looking for me, you know.” He completely ignores this, suggesting that they can change the colour of the walls, if she would like that, pointing out that grey is popular.
![]() |
"Everyone knows I wouldn't leave like this" |
“Everybody knows I wouldn’t leave like this,” she goes on,
![]() |
"No-one else matters" |
but he maintains that no-one else matters because no-one else understands. “I don’t understand!” Dani screams, but he calmly replies that they are going to be happy here, and the children.
![]() |
"You really think that, do you?" |
“You really think that, do you?” she demands.
![]() |
"The house is your castle" |
He promises that he will change anything that she does not like, describing the house as her castle.
![]() |
"Castle or prison?" |
“Castle or prison?” she snarls, and he thought that she would be happy there. “I appreciate all that you’ve done for me, but I want to be happy and safe because I’m with you – and not because you’ve locked me in here!”
![]() |
"I thought you wanted someone to look after you" |
“I thought that’s what you wanted – someone to look after you,” he says, but she makes it clear that she did not want this, and that she is scared. He insists that he would never hurt her; nevertheless all she wants to do is to go home. “No, you can’t do that,” he answers.
![]() |
She makes a vain bid for freedom |
She rushes to the window, pulling on the handles and banging the glass;
![]() |
"No-one can hear you" |
he confidently advises, “No-one can you hear you.”
![]() |
"Can I get you another drink?" |
In the Deri, Andrea is sitting forlornly, and Mark offers to get her another drink.
![]() |
"What's the point?" |
“What’s the point?,” she groans, “How long will Garry be with this business?” Mark is sure that he will be back as soon as he can. “Why didn’t he say where he was going?” she moans,
![]() |
"How about some more food . . ." |
and Mark attempts to change the subject, asking if she would like more food.
![]() |
". . . you have to eat 20 to fill you up" |
He rather scathingly adds, “These canapés are so small, you have to eat 20 to fill you up.” Andrea has decided that she is not going to stay there all night, and has more important things to do; Mark is sure that Gary will phone her.
![]() |
Brynmor does not look happy |
Kath discovers a bottle of champagne from Hywel and Gaynor; “Expensive one, too!” Brynmor is still looking tired of the whole thing as she looks at a box of chocolates from Britt and Colin,
![]() |
"Christmas leftovers – bloomin' cheek!" |
noticing that the sell-by date is next week; “They’re Christmas leftovers – bloomin’ cheek!”
![]() |
"Can we go home, Kath?" |
Brynmor says that he is tired with all the excitement and would like to go home, as most people have left already. “Go and get your presents from over there, and then we’ll go,” Kath instructs him.
![]() |
"Now, OK?" |
She quickly gets out her phone and gives the order, “Now, OK?”
![]() |
As they leave the Deri . . . |
They gather everything together and leave the Deri.
![]() |
. . . Brynmor is serenaded by the choir |
The five members of the choir are assembled outside in their sailor suits, and burst forth with,
🎼‘The noise in Porthdinllaen is the sound of sails,
All the blocks are screaming,
Dafydd Jones is shouting, I can’t stay at home.’ 🎶
![]() |
He is persuaded to join them |
Kath promises that this is the last surprise, and encourages Brynmor to go and join them as they continue,
🎼‘Huw Puw’s Fflat is sailing tonight, the sound of the anchor rising.
I insist on going sailing, I’ll wear a peaked cap.’ 🎶
![]() |
"That's why you weren't at the last practice" |
Kath tells him that is why he was not at the last practice, and that she did not choose the outfits, but they look lovely. Mathew was responsible for them, arguing that he had to do something, after they kicked him out of the choir;
![]() |
"There's an outfit for you next time" |
“Don’t worry, Brynmor, there is an outfit for you for the next concert.”
![]() |
Brynmor receives a rousing cheer |
The choir end their sea shanty and wish Brynmor a happy birthday.
![]() |
"What do you think your sister would say about this?" |
“What do you think your sister would say about this?” Dani demands, and Wilko imagines that she would be glad, if he does manage to keep Dani safe.
![]() |
"I've tried to keep watch over everyone" |
“Since she died, I’ve tried to keep watch over everyone,”
![]() |
"So you've done this before?" |
and Dani fears that he has done this before, but he denies that. “I haven’t bought a house for anyone before – I haven’t left my job for anyone before!”
She wonders what he means by ‘leaving his job’, and he answers, “I knew they wouldn’t understand, so I’ve been on leave for months. You were my priority, Dan!”
![]() |
"You can't turn your back on everything for me" |
She protests that he cannot turn his back on everything for her, and he proudly points out that he already has; he felt something the first time they met.
![]() |
"Everyone else hates me" |
“You looked at me differently – everyone else in the village hates me – Mark, Garry, Tyler.”
![]() |
"Half the village have been in jail" |
Dani stresses that they hate his job, perhaps, as half the village has been in jail. “It’s all right – I’m used to it,” he says, “When Eluned died, everyone hated me and I don’t blame them.
![]() |
"It was my place to look after her" |
“It was my place to look after her.”
![]() |
Never underestimate the tenacity of Garry Monk |
In the the darkness outside, we see Garry Monk,
![]() |
He picks up a handy weapon |
who picks up a convenient length of timber, (or possibly a metal pipe)
![]() |
"Dani!" |
then goes to a lighted window and bangs on it, shouting, “Dani!”
![]() |
Dani hears the familiar voice |
Wilko is very anxious; “How did he know we were here?” he gasps as Dani rushes to the window.
![]() |
Perhaps it is a length of pipe, after all |
Garry deploys the length of timber to smash another of the windows,
![]() |
"Please don't leave me, Dan!" |
and the (former) DI pathetically pleads, “Please don’t leave me, Dan!”
![]() |
"What have you done to her?" |
By this time Garry is inside the (supposedly secure) house and menacingly demands, “What have you done to her?”
![]() |
Dani stops him from setting about Wilko |
wielding the timber which looks suspiciously like a baseball bat, but Dani manages to restrain him.
![]() |
"This pervert's been spying on you!" |
“This pervert’s been spying on you!” snarls Garry, “Who are you working for?” and he confronts Wilko.
![]() |
"See - he can't protect you" |
“Now can you see why I’m doing this? He can’t protect you!” Wilko tells Dani.
![]() |
"I'm here to save her from psychos like you!" |
Garry shouts, “I’m here to save her from psychos like you!”
![]() |
"I don't need 'saving'!" |
Dani continues to insist that she does not need ‘saving’, and wonders when they will both realise that. When Garry decides he will ring the police, this is forbidden by Dani.
![]() |
"Please, open your eyes, Dan" |
“Please, open your eyes, Dan – he tried to kidnap you!” She tells him to wait outside, but he is reluctant to leave her with Wilko, who insists that Garry does not know what is going on.
![]() |
"I'm sure your friends at the station will be interested" |
Garry answers, “No, I don’t, but I’m sure your friends at the station will be interested. There’s a lot about him that you don’t know, Dani.”
She makes it quite clear that she knows about everything
![]() |
"Garry, go and wait in the car" |
and again tells him to go and wait in the car,
![]() |
"If you touch her . . ." |
but before he goes Garry warns Wilko not to touch her. Dani and Wilko look at each other.
![]() |
"How does it feel to be 75?" |
When Kath arrives home she complains about her aching feet, and proposes that they have a cup of tea; “How does it feel to have had your first day aged 75?” she enquires.
![]() |
"Old!" |
He replies that he feels old; “Don’t expect a party like that every year.”
“I wouldn’t want one!” Brynmor states quite categorically,
![]() |
"I just don't like fuss" |
“I just don’t like fuss – I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but . . .”
![]() |
"Is this to do with Berwyn?" |
Kath suspects that this may be connected with his late brother,
![]() |
"He loved celebrating" |
and he explains, “Berwyn loved celebrating – any excuse for a big slice of cake and everyone singing for him. I remember one year – I think we were about ten . . . I just can’t remember the last time I celebrated my birthday.”
![]() |
"I may have gone a bit overboard" |
Kath confesses that she may have gone a bit overboard, and apologises for that, but he insists that he did enjoy himself –
![]() |
"Especially the part with the choir!" |
especially the part with the choir. “Berwyn would have enjoyed that too –
![]() |
"A night on the sofa with you is celebration enough" |
“but a night on the sofa with you is celebration enough for me, honestly.” Now he is going for a bath.
![]() |
"A different outfit for every concert" |
In the Deri, Mathew is planning that they should have a different outfit for every concert; Colin would rather refer to them as ‘gigs’, as they are more cool than the average choir. “You’ve just been singing about ‘Fflat Huw Puw’ dressed as sailors,” Mathew goes on.
![]() |
"We could strip!" |
Eifion suggests that they could strip, but Colin cannot imagine who would want to see that;
![]() |
"If we did look all right . . ." |
Mathew considers there is a gap in the market, and if they did look all right . . .
![]() |
"Didn't Siôn fancy himself in the outfit?" |
Colin remarks that Siôn fancied himself in that outfit, and Mathew points out that the costumes were supposed to be punishment. Colin reveals that they not will see him again in that costume,
![]() |
"I ripped the backside of mine!" |
as he ripped the backside when he bent over; “That’s why I went home to change – I have to tell you, boys, I am worried – it’s happened a few times with my trousers. Have I got a big bum? Has it grown recently?”
Mathew maintains that it could be a good thing; “Look at Kim Kardashian!
![]() |
"Izzy would have enjoyed it" |
“I’m so glad we did this – the choir – Izzy would have enjoyed it.”
![]() |
"What if Garry doesn't find her?" |
Up in the Deri flat, Tyler is worrying, “What if Garry doesn’t find her?” but Mark is quite certain that he will. “But how, Mark? We don’t know where they are.”
![]() |
"Garry has his methods" |
“He has his methods,” Mark points out, and Tyler predicts that this will break Dani’s heart.
“Yes, but she’ll get through it – she’s stronger than people think,” Mark confidently asserts.
![]() |
"I'm afraid that it's one thing too many!" |
Tyler is afraid that it is one thing too many; with her experiences with Garry, Dylan and Wilko, she has not had much luck.
![]() |
"Dani can cope without a man" |
“Dani doesn’t need a man – she can cope without one – and if she does need some help sometimes, well, we’re here! She’ll never be alone.” Tyler groans that the only thing they need now is for her to come home safely.
![]() |
"I'm going to lose you, aren't I?" |
Wilko has realised, “I’m going to lose you, aren’t I? Are you going to phone the police?” Dani replies that she is not, and that nobody has to find out, but she does insist that he needs help.
![]() |
"You're got to stop punishing yourself" |
“Nothing’s going to bring Eluned back, but you’ve got to stop punishing yourself –you can’t let it control you for ever.”
![]() |
"I'm so tired" |
Wilko admits that he is so tired, and she describes him as a good man, who just needs help,
“I love you, Dan – I would never have hurt you – you know that, don’t you?” he insists.
![]() |
"I have to go now" |
She agrees that she does, but now has to go;
![]() |
She is about to open the door |
she picks up her bag, and as she opens the door,
![]() |
"Look after yourself, Dan" |
he urges her to look after herself. She promises that she will, and is gone, leaving Wilko downcast.
![]() |
"Take me home!" |
Outside she approaches Garry and sobs, “Take me home!”
![]() |
She gets into the car |
He opens the car door and she gets in.
![]() |
Kath is not there . . . |
After his bath, Brynmor comes downstairs and finds that Kath is nowhere to be seen;
![]() |
. . . so Brynmor is going to make a phone call |
he is about to make a phone call when she comes in through the back door. He announces, “I was just about to make beans on toast – do you want some?”
![]() |
"So the food at the party wasn't good enough?" |
“So the food at the party wasn’t good enough, either?” she grumbles, and he replies that he loved the canapés –
![]() |
"They were just slightly small" |
but they were possibly slightly too small.
![]() |
"That's why I went out . . ." |
“That’s why I went out,” she reveals,
![]() |
". . . to get this" |
and takes out a box from the chippy.
![]() |
"Sausage in batter!" |
Brynmor looks delighted; “Sausage in batter!” he exclaims,
![]() |
"Jumbo sausage, good boy!" |
and she points out that it is ‘jumbo sausage’.
![]() |
Wilko is, as usual, looking at . . . |
Wilko sits alone in the cottage, equipped with his laptop, and is watching, as he so often does, what is going on in the Deri flat.
![]() |
. . . the Deri flat, where Dani has located the camera |
He sees Dani who is looking directly at the camera;
![]() |
"I want you to get help" |
she walks towards it, crouches down and informs him, “I meant what I said – I want you to get help.”
![]() |
Wilko is close to tears |
He is close to tears as he watches this,
![]() |
"Don't come near me or my family again!" |
and she goes on, “Don’t come near me or my family again – do you hear me?”
![]() |
The camera is deactivated |
She reaches for the camera and the connection is lost. Wilko does not know what he is going to do.
