"Can you describe the pain?"

As Kath lies in her hospital bed, a nurse asks her to describe the pain;

"Like pins going all down my legs"

“It’s like pins going down my legs,” she replies, and is asked to move first her right leg, which does not show any signs of movement, then the left leg, which causes her some pain.

"We will need Oxycodone"

The nurse says that they will need Oxycodone.

"This is not the time to be brave, Kath"

Brynmor, who has been sitting next to the bed and looking extremely worried, reassures Kath when she protests that she does not want drugs;  he says that this is not the time to be brave.

“I’ll order an MRI scan and then we can make you more comfortable,” Kath is informed.

Brynmor is reluctant to leave Kath

The nurse will also show Brynmor to the waiting room as Kath needs some peace now, but she does not want him to leave.

"I shall only be down the corridor"

He says that he will only be just down the corridor.

Mark is worried and angry

In the waiting room Mark is sitting, both worried and furious with Brynmor.

"I'll let you know if there is any change"

The nurse will inform them of any change.   “I told you to stay away!” Mark snarls, and is told that they are taking her for scans.

“I’m sure that we will be able to see her afterwards –

"She'll be bossing us around before we know we know it"

“and she’ll be bossing us about before we know it.”

"You can explain why you were hiding in Cassie's"

Mark stresses that Brynmor can then explain to her why he was hiding in Cassie’s house until the early hours of the morning.

Eifion is sleeping it off

At Y Felin, amidst the empty cans and other detritus of the previous night, Siôn suddenly wakes up with a shout

Siôn definitely feels under par . . .

and realises that he has a tremendous hangover.   Iolo and Eifion are still asleep.

. . . and is hardly able to stand up

Siôn struggles out of his chair, almost falling over, and makes his way towards the kitchen.

"Oi!   You swines!   Wake up!"

Then as he passes a mirror he notices his makeover, peers in disbelief at it, and shouts at the top of his voice, “Oi!   You swines!   Wake up!”

"What on earth happened to you?"

Iolo innocently asks, “Dad, what on earth has happened to you?”

Siôn staggers upstairs . . .

Siôn makes growling noises as he staggers up the stairs

. . . and they cannot contain their amusement

and the others laugh at their exploit.

'if that sheep had stayed still . . ."

Sioned comes into the farm kitchen, complaining about her injured finger;  “If that sheep had stayed still, I’d be all right.”

"At least she accepted the lamb"

DJ points out that at least she accepted the lamb, which is something.

"You look shattered, Sioned"

Eileen comes in, wearing her dressing gown, and remarks that Sioned looks shattered;  DJ comments, “That’s the third night on the trot they’ve  decided to arrive at 3:00am.”   Eileen says that they cannot do anything about that.

"Sian 'Pontiets' has texted"

“That’s easy enough for you to say,” groans Sioned, and then notices something on her phone;  “Sian ‘Pontiets’ [another village in the Gwendraeth valley] has texted to say she heard at the mart that John is looking for someone to rent Deri Fawr!”

"Sian gets everything wrong"

Her mother points out that Sian gets everything wrong.

"DJ, this would be perfect for us"

“There’s one way to find out – DJ, this would be perfect for us,” Sioned enthuses, “If you’re leaving Penrhewl to Huwi-John, we don’t have a choice.”

"Are you OK, Gwern?"

Gwern hurries along the street when Arwen comes out of the shop, asking if he is OK.

"I've forgotten my sports bag"

He replies that he is late, and he has forgotten his sports bag.

"Come to the flat with me"

Arwen’s answer is, “Don’t go to school, then!   Come to the flat with me – Mam is at school and Jinx is out all day.”

When he says that he cannot do that, she describes him as ‘boring’,

"Dani doesn't know I got a monitoring form"

so he explains, “Dani doesn’t know that ‘Matthews Maths’ gave me a monitoring form.   She’d be fuming if I was skiving as well.”

"Do you want me to sign it for you?"

“Do you want me to sign it for you?   For a packet of chewing gum?” Arwen suggests, but he declines her offer, and continues towards the Deri.

Siôn's beard has not changed colour

Eifion is treating his hangover with a mug of tea when Siôn comes back downstairs, after having been unsuccessful in returning his beard to its normal shade.

"Its going to take more than a cup of tea . . ."

Iolo gives his father a mug of tea, but he warns, “It’s going to take more than a cup of tea to placate me.”

Iolo answers that it was his own fault he got into such a state,

"We're really sorry, Siôn"

and Eifion maintains that they are really sorry.   “Oh, you are, are you?   And that makes everything all right, does it?”

“It was only a bit of fun,” Eifion goes on, “Things like that are really ‘in’ at the moment,”

Iolo sniggers

which makes Iolo snort with laughter, much to Siôn’s disgust.

"It might be 'in', but I want you 'out'!"

“Right, it might be ‘in’, but I want you ‘out’!” orders Siôn, and Eifion follows instructions to avoid further argument.

"Did you have to be so nasty?"

“Did you have to be so nasty?” demands Iolo,

"Yes, I did!"

and his father says that he did, wondering how he is supposed to walk around like that – people will laugh at him.

“It might teach you a lesson, then,” replies Iolo,

"Getting drunk, dancing, singing!"

“Getting drunk like that – shots, dancing, singing!”   Siôn cannot believe that he did that;  “Let’s just hope that no-one filmed you, Dad!” says Iolo,

"I didn't do that, did I?"

and his father feels very stupid.

"We haven't discussed it yet"

As DJ sits down with a sandwich, Sioned announces, “I’ve phoned John Deri Fawr already,” but he reminds her they have not discussed it.

"We don't have a choice"

“We don’t have a choice – do you want to continue working full pelt here for a measly wage?   No thanks!   Listen – if we don’t move quickly, Sian ‘Pontiets’ will have told half the country – so hurry up!

"I want to go to Deri Fawr today"

“I want to go to Deri Fawr today.”

Brynmor is still trying to explain

Brynmor tries to persuade Mark that there is nothing going on between him and Cassie;  “No, you’ve already said that – she just didn’t want you to freeze in the garage,” growls Mark, cynically.   “Whose idea was it to go back to hers, then, eh?”

"I didn't think Kath would want to see me"

“I didn’t think Kath would want to see me after we had fallen out, “Brynmor says, but it is pointed out to him and that is exactly why she fell.

"She was going to the shop to get chocolates"

“She was going to the shop get chocolates to make it up to you – but no, you preferred Cassie’s cheap scent!” Mark rages.

"We were only talking"

Brynmor once again points out that they were only talking about private things.   “Oh yes, of course you were – you’re hiding something –

"When I find out, I'm going to tell Mam"

“and when I find out what it is, I’m going to tell Mam everything.

"I'm going to get a cup of tea"

I’m going to get a cup of tea.”

Brynmor makes a quick phone call;

"Mark's asking a lot of questions"

“Cassie – I can’t talk a lot but – she’s still having tests – but Mark is asking a lot of questions.   I don’t want him to find out about what we were discussing last night.

"Kath was on her way to buy me a box of chocolates"

“It seems that Kath was on her way to buy me a box of chocolates when she fell – so this is my fault.”

"I've got to go!"

Then he hears Mark approaching and has to abruptly end the call.

"The machine only takes coins"

Mark returns, complaining that the machine only takes coins;

"I won't forgive myself if something happens to her"

Brynmor tells him, “I won’t forgive myself if something happens to her,” and Mark snarls that he will not forgive him either.

"Do you want a sandwich, Gwern?"

In the Deri flat, Dani asks Gwern if he wants a sandwich, as Seren has gone swimming so dinner will be late.

Arwen arrives to apologise

Then Arwen comes visiting, telling Dani that she wants to say sorry;  “I did a bum call and Gwern’s phone went off in maths – the teacher put him on the monitoring form.”

"I forgot"

Dani wonders why she is only learning about this now, so Arwen explains that she was going to take the blame earlier, but forgot.   Dani had not realised that they were such good friends.

"I was being bullied, and Gwern told me to phone"

“I was being bullied, so Gwern told me to phone if I needed help,” Arwen goes on,

"That's really nice"

and Dani regards that as really nice.

"Can you just sign the form?"

Gwern would like Dani to simply sign the form, and Arwen points out that it does not go on his record.

"No, I can't stay"

She is invited to stay and watch telly with Gwern, but cannot at the moment, and leaves the flat.

"So – are you angry?"

“So – are you angry?” enquires Gwern, and Dani says that she is proud of him,

"Just be honest next time, Gwern"

but asks him to just be honest with her next time, and to get her a pen to sign the form.

They visit Deri Fawr

Sioned and DJ walk into the dilapidated Deri Fawr farm;

"We can't just march in here, Sioned"

he protests, “We can’t just march in here,” but she reminds him that the gate was not locked, and that John should just answer his phone.

“We’re not going to get a farm if we sit back and wait to win the lottery!” she rages, “Try to be more supportive!”

They hear a strange noise

Then they hear a clanging noise coming from inside a barn, and she announces herself as, “Sioned Penrhewl.”

The door is chained and padlocked

Then there is a banging on the door and on further investigation they find that the door is chained and padlocked, which she regards as odd.   “They don’t like strangers sniffing around,” DJ supposes, as the banging intensifies.

"Come on – we're going home!"

He decides that they are going and Sioned reluctantly follows him.

"You were with Cassie when she fell"

“What would hurt Mam more – the injury, or the fact that you were with Cassie when she fell?” Mark demands.

Brynmor's attempt to explain is interrupted

As Brynmor tries to explain once again, Cassie walks into the waiting room.

"Don't waste your Breath, Brynmor"

“Don’t waste your breath, Brynmor,” she sighs,

"Feeling guilty, are you?"

and Mark assumes that she feels guilty, as indeed she should.   “I was trying to stop Brynmor getting pneumonia – Brynmor has a conscience you know.   He felt so bad about arguing with your mother, he couldn’t face her.”

Mark has a different explanation, “Or he felt better being comforted by you.”

"Like you tried to find comfort in my bed?"

“Like you tried to find comfort in my bed?” she reminds him, “But there we are, every man is not the same.”

Mark goes rather quiet

This seems to take the wind out of Mark’s sails,

"So shut up and wise up!"

and she advises, “So shut up and wise up!”   Mark looks suitably chastened.

"Can we focus on what's important?"

Cassie resumes, “Right, can we focus on what’s important?   Have you seen a doctor?

“No, you were too worried about unimportant things – I’ll go!”

"I didn't see you around today"
When Ffion returns home from school she remarks that she did not see Arwen around today;

"I was helming with the younger kids"

“I stayed in lunchtime to help with the younger kids,” is the reply.

"Will you be all right?"

Ffion has now got a meeting in Carmarthen, and asks if her daughter will be OK until she gets back.

"I'm going rollerblading with Jinx"

“Jinx and I are going rollerblading in the park,” Arwen says, and her mother thinks that Jinx is spoiling her.

Gwern thanks her for getting him off the hook . . .

Arwen receives a text alert on her phone;  “Thanks for helping me.   I owe you,” says the message from Gwern.

. . . and Arwen smiles

She looks quite pleased with herself.

More good food going to waste

Eifion is sitting in the Deri, looking at his meal in a rather concerned fashion;

"Are you struggling, Eifion?"

Dani makes fun of him, “Are you struggling, Eifion?”

"Don't fee like going to work, then?"

Then Iolo comes in, assuming that Eifion does not feel like going to work, but finds that he is bring blamed.

"You and Dad were the ones sinking shots last night!"

“You and Dad were the ones that sinking shots last night!” Iolo protests,

Dani is listening

and this attracts Dani’s interest, so Iolo adds, “And back to Y Felin for a party – Dad looks worse.

"He might complain to your boss!"

“He won’t forgive you easily – he might complain to your boss!”

Eifion’s response to this is to decide to go home to bed, and Iolo notices Dani looking disapprovingly at him;

"Did something happen between you two?"

“Did something happened between you two?” she wants to know, and when he says that it did not, she goes on, “Did you want it to?   Be careful!”

"We're only friends, Dan"

Iolo insists that they are only friends,

"Wilko and I were friends . . ."

she points out, “Wilko and I were friends – and look what happened there!”   Iolo does not like to hear Eifion compared with Wilko, so she explains, “I just want you to be careful – your trust people too quickly – just like me.”

"I like to see the best in people"

Iolo maintains that he likes to see the best in people;  “Life’s depressing enough without seeing the worst in people.”

"Well, I wouldn't trust him!"

Dani ends the conversation by saying she would not trust him.

"Where on earth have you been?"

Eileen is looking at her watch and moans at Sioned when she comes in, “Where on earth have you been?   We need to sign for a delivery, and I have to fetch Huwi-John!”

"I'll do it – and I'll make dinner"

DJ volunteers to sign for it, and will make dinner as well.

"Look, I know you're disappointed"

He knows that Sioned is disappointed, and she rages, “What can I do if John won’t answer my calls?”   DJ suggests that they will have to accept that he does not want to rent to them, but she is determined not to give up as easily as that.

"He's hiding something very interesting in there"

“He’s hiding something very interesting in that shed,” she alleges,

"You mustn't go near the place"

but he warns her not to go near the place.

"I wouldn't dare!"

“I wouldn’t dare!” she tells him, smiling slyly.

"I thought you were going home to bed!"

Eifion seems to have taken up residence in Y Felin, as he is sitting on the sofa when Iolo returns;  “I thought you were going home to bed!” he snarls, but Eifion has apparently had an attack of conscience

"Eifion brought me this"

and has brought Siôn something to remove the colouration.

Siôn invites him to stay for a meal;

"You two can make dinner"

he will run a bath, and the two of them can make dinner.

"Do you have Netflix?"

“Do you have Netflix?   Mathew’s cancelled ours and there’s a film I want to see,” says Eifion,

"I'll have a coffee, if you're making one"

“I’ll have a coffee, if you’re making one.”

Brynmor watches Kath

In the hospital, Brynmor looks through the glass at Kath, who is still in some pain, so he rushes to her bedside.

"I don't like to see you suffer like this"

“Why didn’t anyone call for me?” he demands, “I don’t like to see you suffer like this.”

"I'd do anything to turn the clock back"

Kath says that she would do anything to turn the clock back;

"I'm so sorry about the nasty things I said"

he feels the same and is so sorry about the nasty things he said.   “We’ve got far bigger things to worry about, love,” she informs him,

"I've got a burst fracture"

“I’ve got a burst fracture – and it’s pressing on the spinal cord – and it’s swollen, which is why I can’t move my legs.”

"Will you need an operation or something?"

He wonders whether she needs an operation or something

"They can't tell if I'll be able to move them again"

and she replies, “They don’t know – they can’t tell if I will be able to move them again.”
