"Living with his mother?"

Outside the Deri, Anita cannot believe that Griffiths is living with his mother;  

"I saw it with my own eyeballs, mind"

“I know – tragic!” agrees Kelly, “I saw it with my own eyeballs, mind.”   

"You must be wrong!"

Anita cannot imagine why he would not have told her, and is convinced that Kelly is wrong, but she protests, “I’m not making it up at all.”

"I know him better than you"

“I know him better than you,” Anita growls, 

"All right – where does he live?"

so she is asked where he lives, but finds herself unable to answer.   Kelly points out that she has not even had an invitation, although she is in a relationship with him.

“Don’t you think it’s odd that I know more about him than you?” Kelly continues, 

"Don't you think it's worrying?"

“Don’t you think it’s worrying?”   Anita replies that it is just typical Ieuan, 

"He just doesn't want me to worry"

because he does not want her to worry.

Griffiths is locking up Tomos ac Ellis 

Just at that moment, Ieuan Griffiths happens to come out of Tomos ac Ellis which he has just acquired, so she runs across to him.   “You’re so sweet, do you know that?   

"You've been looking after your mother all this time"

“You’ve been looking after your mother all this time – and I know how much of a strain that can be.”   

"Kelly's been opening her mouth!"

He tries to get a word in, but Anita goes on, “I do you appreciate the fact that you didn’t want to put pressure on me, 

"We should be sharing the burden"

“but we’re in a relationship and we should be sharing the burden.   Why don’t I come over and meet her tonight?”

"She's not very good with new people"

Ieuan does not think this is a good idea, explaining, “She’s not very good with new people, you know.”   Anita maintains that the sooner his mother gets used to her, the better, and suggests that they have dinner together tonight.   

"And I'll bring pudding!"

She will bring pudding, and before he can raise any objections, 

Kelly is smiling

she returns to Kelly, who is smiling mischievously.   Ieuan is most definitely not smiling.

Siôn presents his research

In the chip shop flat, Siôn brings a file of what he has researched about local stories, and comments that he enjoyed doing it.   

"There's plenty in there"

“There’s plenty in there – and I’ve noted troubled times in the country’s history and in the language.”

"Anything 'juicy' or about ghosts?"

Mark is more interested in whether there is anything ‘juicy’ or about ghosts, 

"I don't want to spoil the surprise"

and Siôn does not want to spoil the surprise, simply hoping that they enjoy it as much as he did.   

Colin is a bit hesitant already

“Well, are you going to open it, or shall I?” Mark demands.

"Thank you, Sioned, for dealing wth that!"

At Penrhewl, Eileen is looking very concerned when Sioned comes in to announce that another lamb has been born, but is ignored, and voices her disappointment.   

"Sorry, I didn't sleep much last night"

“Sorry, I didn’t sleep much last night,” Eileen admits, 

"I was worried about Alaz"

“I was worried about Alaz, out there on his own – aren’t you worried, then?”

"I can't worry about everything"

Sioned protests that she cannot worry about everything;  

"No-one knows where he is"

“A young man like that and no-one knows where he is,” says her mother, 

"I'm sure he'll be all right"

and Sioned seems confident that he will be all right, 

Eileen is confused

which Eileen finds puzzling.

Megan is on the warpath

Megan comes along the road and looks into the salon;  she asks Andrea where Dani is.   

"That little pink dress"

“That little pink dress,” she begins, and Andrea agrees that it is striking.

"It has attracted a lot of attention"

“It has attracted a lot of attention this morning – it’s a bargain, considering the amount of work that’s gone into it.”   Megan points out that it is very similar to stock she had in Apêl Maenan about a week ago.

"I had an understanding with Dani"

“I had an understanding with Dani that the shop wouldn’t undermine the charity’s work,” she complains, to which Andrea answers that they have stuck to that agreement.   “What?   By buying cheap from me and charging a fortune here?” Megan rages.

Dani comes into the shop

Dani has just come in as Andrea demands what difference it makes;  

"You got the price you were asking"

“You got the price you were asking.”   Megan is adamant that their intention is to raise money for a good cause, and she is reminded that they have done that.   

"You have no control after you've sold them"

It is emphasised that Megan has no control over the clothes after she has sold them.

Megan goes off in a huff

Megan turns and sees Dani standing there, shrugs her shoulders and walks out.   

They laugh heartily

Both Dani and Andrea laugh;  “Sorry – was I wrong to talk to her like that?” Andrea enquires, and is told that Dani would have done the same thing, 

"I would not have been so polite"

but possibly less politely.

"She should be more supportive"

“She’s running a business – we’re running a business – she should be more supportive,” says Andrea, and is told that Megan is never happy.   Dani now has to phone the insurance company.

This is not what they had hoped

In the chip shop flat, Colin and Mark are disappointed by the contents of Siôn’s dossier;  

"There's nothing of interest  here"

“Boring – there’s nothing of interest here!” Mark groans, 

Colin has found something about a squire;  

"The problem is, he was a nice guy"

“The problem is, he was a nice guy – he worked hard, looked after his workers.   We have to find something!”

"I got the date wrong, boys"

Then Britt rushes in to tell then she got the date wrong;  “They don't want the tour in May – they want it this month – so help me with these costumes.”   

"Costumes?   We need to find a story first!"

Colin rages, “Costumes?   We need to find a story first!”

"What shoes do you think . . ."

Anita tells Kelly that she wants to look smart;  “Not cheap – but I don’t want it to look as if I’ve made too much of an effort.   Which shoes do you think – 

". . . black patent or navy suede?"

“black patent or navy suede?” she asks, wearing one of them on each foot.    Kelly is of the opinion that they both look ‘lush’.

“The thing is, I’m trying to make an impression,” Anita goes on, but Kelly is preparing to go out.   “Where are you going?   I haven’t chosen a handbag yet,” moans Anita.

"You're fussing too much"

“I’ve got work to do – and I’m late!   You’re hot, but you’re fussing too much.   

"Don't listen to anything Griffiths' Mam says"

“Just remember, don’t listen to anything Griffiths’ Mam says,” Kelly adds, as she is about to leave the house, but Anita maintains that she is great with old people.   

"Phone me if you need anything"

“Phone me if you need anything,” are Kelly’s parting words.

John Deri Fawr is looking grim

In the Deri, John Deri Fawr is sitting morosely at the bar when Sioned comes in with a box of vegetables;  

"Any sign of your farmhand?"

“Any sign of your farmhand coming back?” she asks, and he points out it is none of her business.   “I might be worried about him – I think we have a duty to worry about refugees who are brought into the country illegally.   Doesn’t it worry you that he’s out there with nowhere to go?”

"Good Samaritans, like you, Sioned"

“There are plenty of good Samaritans who would be willing to take him in – aren’t there, Sioned?” he replies, “I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s on his holidays at Penrhewl.”

She says that he is welcome to check, and she offers to take him up there now;  

"I've got enough to go to the police"

then she adds, threateningly, “I’ve 

got enough to go to the police now.”   

"You've got nothing!"

He snarls that she has nothing, but she suggests she could report her suspicions.   

"I might have proof"

While he is confident that she has no proof, she answers that she she may indeed have that.

"What do you want, Sioned"

“What do you want, Sioned?” he demands. 

"I want Deri Fawr for me and DJ"

She informs him, “I want Deri Fawr for me and DJ and me.   I’m quite busy today, 

"I might find time tomorrow to call at the station"

“but I’m sure I can find time tomorrow to call at the station, to have a chat with the police – think about it – but don’t take too long.”   She turns and walks out of the Deri, 

He is looking worried now

leaving John stern-faced.

"We don't know who is who yet"

Britt has unpacked the costumes, but it is pointed out that they do not know who is who yet.   Colin tells her that the squire does not have a story, but she is sure, “Where there’s a squire, there’s always a maid.”

"But this is a boring squire!"

“But this is a boring squire!” Colin protests, and she tells him to use some artistic licence.   

Mark makes 'clip-clop' noises

Mark imitates the sound of clattering hooves and reminds him of the horse, Fflam, and the good story they concocted around him.

"They fall head over heels in love"

“Squire and maid, right – and they fall head over heels in love,” Colin begins, 

"And a baby was on the way"

and it is suggested that a baby was on the way, but his wife found out.   She was a terrible woman – and she took the baby, locking the maid in the cellar.   

"That's it – poor Blodywn!"

“That’s it – poor Blodwen!” Colin exclaims.

"Why are you making such a fuss?"

Eunice demands, “Why are you making such a fuss?” as Ieuan is laying the table for their meal.   He replies that he has invited a special guest for dinner – a woman who means a lot to him, and she immediately exclaims, “Hazel!”

"Mami, Hazel and I got divorced years ago"

He reminds her that he and Hazel got divorced many years ago, 

"Anita is just as good, if not better"

but emphasises, “Anita is just as good as Hazel – better, even – I think you’re going to like her.”   

His Mami thinks otherwise

His mother does not seem to share his optimism.

Anita arrives, and before he goes to the door, he begs, “Please, Mami!”   

Anita arrives at the house

He welcomes Anita to the house and remarks on how smart she is, 

"Mami, this is Anita"

then introduces her to his mother.

"Hello, Mrs Griffiths, nice to meet you!"

In a loud voice Anita says, “Hello, Mrs Griffiths – it’s so nice to meet you – I’m Anita.”

"There's nothing wrong with my hearing!"

“Ms Griffiths – and there’s nothing wrong with my hearing!” is the angry reply, “Why is she shouting at me?”   

"I've brought" trifle for pudding

Anita announces that she has bought a trifle for pudding;  “With custard?” asks Eunice, “Did you make the custard yourself?”   Anita is pleased to advise that she did, 

"I don't like custard!"

but receives the withering response, “I don’t like custard!”   This meal promises to be rather harrowing.

Sioned checks that the coast is clear . . . 

At Penrhewl, Sioned comes in and checks to make sure that no one is there;  then she leads Alaz into the kitchen, inviting him to sit down.   

. . . and offers Alaz some food

“I’m sure you haven’t been able to cook anything in that caravan – do you want food?   We’ve got cawl – it’s good – wonderful [bendigedig].”

"Huwi-John?"

Alaz says, “Huwi-John?” with whom he has become friends, apparently, 

"You can see him later"

and is told that he can see him later

"Right, I'm going to take a couple of photos"

Kelly is in what used to be the salon, speaking to Andrea;  “Right, I’m going to take a couple of photos of you and the shop – and we’d better include Dani.”

"I like this – what size is it?"

Then a dress takes Kelly’s fancy and she asks what size it is;  “That doesn’t matter – I can alter it if you like,” Andrea volunteers, 

"Buy it for yourself – a little treat"

“Buy it for yourself – a little treat.”   

"But it's a 'going out' dress"

Kelly wonders where she is going wear it, as it is a ‘going out’ dress, so she is advised to have a night out.

"Come out for a drink in the Deri"

“Come out with me for a drink in the Deri, tonight – we could dress up and have a giggle!” says Andrea, “It will be good publicity for the shop.”   

"Yeah – go on, then!"

Kelly takes little persuading, 

"First, photos"

and will begin with some photos.

"The children have two different fathers?"

Eunice observes caustically, “The children have two different fathers, do they?” and Anita replies that it was not the plan, but such things happen.  She asks if Eunice would like some help to cut the meat, and is told, “There’s nothing wrong with my hands!”   

"All right, Mami"

Ieuan does his best to calm his mother down, and Anita is regretting her visit, 

Oh dear – odd shoes

especially when she looks down and realises that she is still wearing the odd shoes.

"What are you doing here?"

Eileen arrives home unexpectedly and Sioned is surprised;  her mother says that Huwi-John needs a bath, but Sioned has already dealt with that; 

"I'll go and check on Huwi-John now"

she will go upstairs to check on him now.

However, in the doorway she meets Alaz, 

"Huwi-John sleeping"

who reports that Huwi-John is sleeping.   

"Where have you been hiding him?"

“Where have you been hiding him, Sioned?” Eileen demands, 

"In the caravan"

and is told that he was in the caravan.

"Caravan bendgigedig!"

“Caravan bendigedig!” [wonderful] says Alaz, and Eileen is glad that he is all right, 

"He can't stay here, Sioned"

but still insists that he cannot stay there any more, as it puts them all in danger.

“What about the danger to him, without a roof over his head?” protests Sioned.   She is told that they cannot risk getting the law involved over a bloke they do not know.   

"You sound exactly like DJ now!"

“You sound exactly like DJ now!” Sioned growls, 

"There is a right way of doing these things"

and her mother points out there is a right way of doing these things.

"Sometimes you just have to do the right thing"

Sioned is insistent, “Sometimes you just have to do the right thing – if Huwi-John was lost in another country, you’d want someone to look after him, wouldn’t you?   Please, Mam!”   

Eileen's determination has been worn down

Eileen reluctantly agrees that he can go in the caravan, 

"Thank you"

and he thanks her.

"I'm not really hungry"

Anita does not seem to have touched her meal and gives the excuse that she is not hungry, as it is rather early for her.   

"She's been playing on her phone the whole time"

Eunice complains, “She’s been playing on her phone the whole time!   It’s so rude to be on your phone like that at the dinner table – 

"In your profession, you don't have much choice"

“but in your profession, you don’t have much choice, do you?   I know about Ieuan’s little habits – starts by sending messages and then phone calls.   I’ve seen the bills!”

"Are you suggesting he's paying me?"

Anita is outraged by this allegation;  “Are are you suggesting he’s paying me?”   Eunice replies that if it is any consolation, not many of his friends are invited to the house.   

"I work for a construction company"

“I work for a construction company,” stresses Anita.

“That’s what you tell people, is it?” Eunice laughs, 

"We enjoy each other's company"

and Anita angrily points out that she and Ieuan enjoy each other’s company.   

"You're just another one on his long list"

She is dismissively  informed, “But you’re just another one on this long list he has – a bit of company for now, perhaps, but you’re not good enough for him – nowhere near good enough!”

Ieuan has remained silent 

Anita looks at Ieuan for some support, but he says nothing, 

Anita thinks that she had better go

so she considers that she had better go.   

"Wear a pair of shoes that match!"

The parting shot aimed at her is , “Oh, by the way, when you see my son again – if there is a next time – perhaps you should wear a pair of shoes that match!”   

Anita storms off

Anita marches out of the house without another word.

"Look at you two – all sparkly!"

In the Deri, Kelly says, “Do you know what?   I haven’t had a night out for ages.   Dani comes downstairs and remarks on their sparkly outfits;  

"Actually it's more of a boutique"

“I found this new shop – actually it’s more of a boutique!” Kelly tells her, “You’re on to a good thing.”

Kelly receives a text message;  “Auntie Neet, love her – she was meeting Griffiths’ mother tonight.   

"Real battle-axe – total disaster!"

“She’s a real battleaxe and it was a total disaster.”   Andrea comments that mothers-in-law usually are, 

"It helps when your in-laws are the other side of the world"

and Kelly maintains that it helps when they are on the other side of the world.

Andrea has enjoyed herself tonight;  “Just a chance to talk outside of work.”   Dani appreciates having an hour off from the kids, 

"See, I'm still on duty"

and shows them her baby alarm, indicating she is still on duty.  “It’s hard when you’re on your own and you run a business,” agrees Andrea, and they describe Dani as ‘Wonder Woman’.

"Do you get any financial help from Garry?"

“Do you get any help from Garry – financially I mean?” Andrea enquires, 

"You must be joking"

and Dani grumbles that she must be joking;  she only gets an odd phone call for the kids, who really miss him.

Andrea feels the same;  “Well, there was something between us, you know – 

"Have you got his new phone number?"

“have you got his new phone number?”   Dani will not tell her what it is, 

"Still have feelings for him, Dan?"

so Kelly deduces that she still has feelings for him, which Dani is quick to deny.

“So you just don’t want me to have his number?” Andrea demands, 

"If he wanted you to know the number, he would have told you"

and is told that if Garry had wanted her to have it, he would have given it to her;  she goes to check on Gabriel, 

They look at each other

while Kelly and Andrea look at each other.
