Kath has a parcel, not delivered by Royal Mail

A parcel has just been delivered to Maes-y-Deri and Kath is looking concerned.   Mark arrives through the back door;  

Mark is detailed to take it to Cassie

she informs him that the costumes are there, and that she wants him to take them to Cassie in the Deri.

“Your costume is in there, too,” she adds, which comes as a surprise to him;  

"You won't have to worry about what to wear"

“You won’t have to worry about what to wear now, will you?   And make sure Brynmor stays away from the Deri, because we’ll be preparing.”

"How are you, Mark?"

Brynmor comes in through the front door and Mark hurries away,

"See you later – or perhaps not"

commenting, “See you later, then – or perhaps not,” which Brynmor finds rather puzzling.   

Brynmor is disappointed

Kath is also off to work, and he is disappointed, 

"I'm really looking forward to seeing you later"

but she assures him that she loves him and is really looking forward to seeing him later.

He dials Wilko's number . . .

As soon as she is out of the door, Brynmor picks up his phone and dials Marc Wilkinson’s number, 

. . . but is in for a surprise

but a recorded voice advises, “The number you have reached has been disconnected.”   He regards this as particularly strange.

Dani and Wilko prepare to leave

Meanwhile Wilko and Dani are just coming out of the Deri and loading the luggage into his car.   

"Leaving the country, are you?"

Garry comes across the road, and sarcastically comments, “Leaving the country, are you?”   

"Just having a break"

Wilko replies that they are just having a break, and when Garry hears that the children are with Jaclyn, he points out that he would have had them.

Dani tells him to go and see them, warning, “But I’m back tomorrow, 

"Don't get any ideas, Garry!"

so don’t get any ideas!”   

She gets into the car

She closes the car door, 

"Garry!"

and Garry hears Andrea’s voice;  

She was not expected back yet

he was not expecting her back for another hour, but is very glad to see her.

“I was just going to the Deri to get stuff for breakfast,” he says and Andrea fancies Pain au Chocolat;  

Garry looks at Dani . . .

Garry 

. . . and she looks at him

and Danny look lingeringly at each other, 

Wilko just looks suspicious

whereas Wilko is looking suspicious.

Outside the shop, Kath is speaking to Cassie;  

"We all like men in uniform, don't we?"

“We all like men in uniform, don’t we?” then has to go as Arwen is going into the shop.   

"It's hard to keep this a secret"

She tells Ffion that it is hard to keep this surprise party a secret from Brynmor;  “He thinks I’ve forgotten it – he wasn’t happy this morning – actually, I feel a bit guilty.”   

"Can't remember anyone throwing a party for me"

Ffion cannot remember the last time someone threw a party for her, 

"Because Tesni is away"

and Kath lists all the things that she has done, arranging with Cassie to make cocktails because Tesni is away.

"You mean Mam-gu Tesni?"

Arwen comes back out of the shop, remarking, “Mam-gu Tesni?” 

"Don't call Tesni that!"

and her mother reprimands her for calling Tesni that.   

"The money's on the counter"

“I’ve got some chocolate – the money’s on the counter,” says Arwen.

Andrea was not expecting Aaron to be home

Aaron has an inset day from school, and Andrea is surprised to see him in the flat.  

There is an article about her in the Western Post 

“I’ve got great timing,” she groans, “I come home from Kuala Lumpur when this is published!” as she looks at the Western Post.   

"There's no bread"

Aaron is more interested in the fact that there is no bread, and she advises that Garry has gone to fetch some.

"Any other illness, I'd get some sympathy"

“Have you read the article?” she goes on, “It’s strange – if I talked about another kind of illness, I’d get some sympathy – but with HIV . . . some people think the blame lies with us.”

"It comes from a lifestyle choice"

“The thing is, Andrea, it comes from a lifestyle choice,” Aaron replies, “It’s not like cancer.”   

"I was in a long-term relationship, Aaron"

She makes it very clear that she was in a long-term relationship and has never injected herself with drugs.   

"I saw into-retroviral drugs"

“Do you know how I found out?   I saw anti-retroviral drugs in my boyfriend’s house.   I didn’t know what they were, so I googled it.”   

"What – he didn't tell you?"

Aaron is outraged that he had not told her, and she explains, “We had been together for two years – 

"They told me I was HIV positive"

“I went for a test and they told me I was HIV positive.   I reported it, not because I wanted revenge, 

"I was scared he'd do it to someone else"

“but I was scared he’d do it to someone else.   

Aaron seems to be changing his attitude

“He was so irresponsible – so cruel.”

Garry comes upstairs, calling, “Right, who wants Pain au Chocolat, Eggs Benedict and French coffee?”   Aaron thinks that this sounds interesting, 

"Only some croissants and a loaf"

but then Garry continues, “No – only some croissants and a loaf!   This article’s given us a lot of attention,” 

"I didn't know until I opened the paper"

but Andrea was unaware of it until she opened the paper.

“There has been a very positive response,” he points out, 

"Shall we be going to Brynmor's party?"

“So shall we be going to Brynmor’s party this evening?”   Andrea does not know if she is ready, but Garry encourages her, “We have nothing to be ashamed of – 

"Any trouble and I'll sort them out!"

“any trouble and I’ll sort them out!”   Aaron is thinking as Garry unpacks the groceries.

The secluded cottage

Out in the countryside, Wilko’s car arrives at a secluded cottage with some scaffolding around the chimney.   

Dani gets out of the car

Dani gets out of the car and is told, “I know you were expecting a five star hotel.”   

"It's really romantic . . ."

She says that it is lovely and really romantic;  she is glad she packed more than stilettos and a little black dress.   

". . . but there's no signal!"

She is about to send Tyler some pictures, but finds there is no mobile phone signal, 

"There's Wi-Fi in the house"

however he points out that there is Wi-Fi in the house.

Brynmor contacts the police station . . .

Brynmor has rung the police station;  “Good morning – is it possible to speak to Detective Inspector Marc Wilkinson, please?”   

. . . and hears such disturbing news . . .

Then he receives some interesting, and troubling, news;  “Has he?” Brynmor gasps, 

. . . that he leaves the house in a great hurry

grabs his coat and rushes out of the house.

Dani finds the doors are locked . . .

Dani is investigating the cottage, but is concerned to find that the doors 

. . . and so are the windows

and windows are locked;  “Where are all the keys?” she asks Wilko, 

Wilko finds this amusing

who simply laughs.

“Do you like it?   You know I’m trying to keep you and the kids safe?   

"I've bought this place for us"

“Well, that’s why I’ve bought this place for us – I think we could be really happy here,” he says;  

"You're not making any sense"

Dani is quite taken aback and says that he is not making any sense.

“I’ve made the place as safe as I can – you don’t have to worry about Dylan or anyone – 

"Nobody will find you here"

“nobody will find you here.”   

Dani finds this very chilling

She finds this extremely disturbing.

Brynmor heads for the Deri

As a cyclist rides along the street, Mark and Tyler are passing the chip shop when they notice Brynmor, who is heading towards the Deri.   Mark is concerned that he will see all the preparations for the party, 

"Want to come for a walk, Brynmor?"

and shouts to him, with the feeble excuse that he and Tyler are going for a walk to the park and they invite Brynmor to join them.

"I'm on my way to see Dani"

When they are told that he is on his way to see Dani, Mark explains that Tyler knows, so Brynmor tells them, “This cameras business has been on my mind and Wilko’s disappeared.   

"Wilko hasn't been in work for three months!"

“What’s worrying me is I phoned the station and he hasn’t been in work for three months!”

"So that filming wasn't part of the job?"

Mark concludes that filming Dani was not part of the job, and that is why Brynmor wants to see Dani.   Mark protests that he cannot go in;  

"Man's organised a surprise party for you"

“Look, I wasn’t supposed to tell you, but Mam’s organised a surprise birthday party for you.”

"That's the last thing I wanted!"

Brynmor is not pleased to hear that, emphasising that was the last thing he wanted;  

"She's gone off somewhere with Wilko!"

Tyler, who has been into the Deri, emerges with the news that Danny has gone away with Wilko and Jaclyn does not know where they have gone.

Mark will phone the police, while Tyler goes to speak to Kelly, who knows a lot about the situation;  

"Go home and act surprised!"

Brynmor is instructed, “Go home and act surprised when the moment arrives!   And pretend that you’re happy – she’s gone to a lot of trouble!”   

"Let me know what they say"

Brynmor demands to be informed of what the police say.

"Didn't you think about discussing it with me?"

“Didn’t you think about discussing it with me before you bought a house?” Dani wants to know, but he alleges that he needed to make a quick decision, 

"You don't understand how serious this is"

stressing that she does not understand how serious the situation is.   

"This is a huge step!"

“You must be able to see that leaving Cwmderi, my home, my business and taking the kids out of school is a huge step!” she complains.

He agrees and suggests that the children do not have to go to school;  

"We can home school the kids"

“We can home school them – there’s plenty online – or we could get a private tutor.”

"I want them to mix with other children at school"

Dani likes the fact that they can mix with other children at school;  she points out that their friends and family are in Cwmderi.   

"These people don't forget, Dan!"

He responds, “Dan, the world Dylan is a part of, the world you’ve been dragged into, those people don’t forget!”

Dani protests that she has not been threatened, but Wilko maintains that is because he has been keeping her safe.   

"Not one second has gone by when I haven't checked"

“Not one second has gone by when I haven’t checked you’re all right!”

"You haven't been filming me, have you?"

After a moment’s thought, Dani asks, “You haven’t been filming me, have you, like Kelly said?”   

"I had no choice"

He does not answer her question but informs her that she and the children are being watched and he had no choice.

“You were determined to carry on as if nothing was wrong,” he goes on, and she wonders when they are going to pick up the children.   

"You're safer here"

“Tomorrow – but I’ll go on my own – you’re safer here.”   

Now Dani is terrified

He leaves the room and Dani is very frightened.

Ffion discovers something in Arwen's bag

Ffion discovers in Arwen’s school bag a bottle of brandy, so she investigates the bag further.   

"She's not feeling too good"

Jinx comes in, reporting that Arwen is not feeling too good, 

"This was in her school bag!"

and Ffion exclaims, “This was in her school bag – and I didn’t give her enough money to buy all these.   

"She must have stolen them!"

“She must have stolen them – and you say I worry too much!”

"You're angry and she's got a stomach ache"

He attempts to calm her;  “You’re angry, and she’s got a stomach ache – I assume that you didn’t buy her this pasty, either.”

". . . or that she's stealing alcohol"

Ffion goes on, “I don’t know what’s worse – the fact that she’s stealing, or that she’s stealing alcohol!”

"You think I'm overreacting, don't you?"

In the secluded cottage, Wilko brings Dani a mug of tea;  “You think I’m overreacting, don’t you?” he says, “I’ve got my reasons, Dan.”   

Out comes the musical box again

He takes the musical box from his bag, placing it on the table, then hands one of the photographs to Dani.

"That's Eluned, ny sister"

“That’s Eluned, my sister – that was taken about a year before she was killed.”   

"She refused witness protection?"

Dani imagines that she refused witness protection, 

He recalls the events

and he explains, “She was a member of a drama club which met after school.   One night the teacher raped one of the girls – it would have been his word against hers, but Eluned walked in.   

"He tried everything to stop her testifying"

“He tried everything to stop her testifying – offered her money, threatened her, but she refused all help – she didn’t want to go into witness protection.

“One night, she was on her way home from a friend’s house – I was supposed to pick up, but I was at a party and was running late.   

"He knocked her down in his car"

“He knocked her down in his car.   He got 20 years – not that it helped.   Mam couldn’t cope and started drinking.   

"That's why I joined the police"

“That’s why I joined the police – to help people like Eluned – to make sure it would never happen again.

"I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you"

“I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to you, Dan.   I know this is all scary, but I want you to try and get used to being here – once you do and once the children are here, 

"I think we can be really happy – and safe"

“I think we can be really happy – and safe – and that’s what’s important.”

Dani is even more scared

Dani obviously does not agree with his way of thinking.

"Where's love's young dream, then?"

In the chip shop flat, Colin and Aaron are watching the television when Britt comes in, asking, “Where’s love’s young dream, then?” 

"They're at Brynmor's party"

and is told by Colin that they are at Brynmor’s party.

"People worried they'll catch something"

“How can they show their faces after that article?” she demands, “It could affect my business – people worried they’ll catch something.”

Aaron tries to put his mother right

Aaron attempts to put her straight;  “You can’t catch HIV through the air or by touch, OK, Mam?   Dad’s right – it’s impossible.”   

"Have you been replaced by a robot?"

His mother wonders if Aaron has been replaced by a robot, after all the videos which he made, and he reports that he has taken them all down;  

"I was wrong – and you're wrong, too, Mam!"

“I was wrong – and you’re wrong, too, Mam!”

A nautical theme at the Deri

In the Deri, with its ‘HMS Y DERI’ banner above the bar, Andrea thanks Garry for all that he has done;  

"I've never had the confidence to be so open before"

“I’ve never had the confidence to be so open before,” and he feels the same, having always been a private person, but wanted to help her.   “The response has been so positive,” she tells him.

"That's why everybody falls in love with you . . ."

“You bring out the best in people, and that’s why everybody falls in love with you,” he replies, 

". . .  there, I've said it now"

“There, I’ve said it now.”   

Andrea smiles

Andrea smiles broadly.

He does not look as if he is enjoying it

Kath asks Brynmor, “More champagne, captain?”   He tries to look enthusiastic as he comments that she has gone to a lot of trouble.   

"You are enjoying yourself, aren't you?"

“I’ve missed all the important birthdays, so I’m making up for it – you are enjoying yourself, aren’t you?”

"You've got a good heart, Kathleen Pearl"

“Yes – you’ve got a good heart, Kathleen Pearl – I’m lucky,” he replies;  she agrees with this, as she goes off to find more champagne.   

Kelly is partaking of the nibbles

Kelly is over by the bar, wearing a nautical cap, 

"Is there any news?"

and Brynmor asks if there is any news.   

"I tried phoning Dani loads of times"

Kelly has tried phoning Dani loads of times, 

"I don't think the police will do anything"

and Tyler has contacted the police again, but is not hopeful that they will do anything.   

Mark does not know what else they can do, 

Tyler looks at Garry

but Tyler looks across towards Garry, sitting with Andrea, 

"Last time she disappeared – he found her!"

and comments, “Last time she disappeared – he found her!”   

All eyes turn towards Garry"
