"You've gone to a lot of trouble, boys"

Kath is home from the hospital and Brynmor is fussing around her;  “You’ve gone to a lot of trouble, boys,” she says, seeing the changed room,

"Welcome home, love"

and Brynmor welcomes her home.

"No, that's a commode"

“You’ve got a new chair!’ she notices, but is told that it is a commode.   Kath is assured that they have got everything in place for her,

"It's important that you're comfortable, Mam"

and Mark says that it is important that she is comfortable.

There is a bell for her to summon assistance

“I found this in one of the boxes,” Brynmor tells her, and produces a small bell;  “If you need something and I’m out the back or upstairs, you just have to ring.”

"I won't have to lift a finger ever again"

Kath imagines she will not have to lift a finger ever again.

Mark is feeling very uncomfortable and makes the excuse that he has to go.   Brynmor is not happy about this, suggesting that he stays for a cup of tea with his mother,

"I've got a lot to do, Brynmor"

but he protests that he has a lot to do.   “I’ve bought a cake from the market to celebrate – have a piece before you go,” growls Brynmor,”

Mark cannot get out of the house quickly enough

but Mark seems to be in a great hurry to leave.

"I think we've got a bottle of fizzy plonk"

“I think we’ve got a bottle of fizzy plonk,” Brynmor continues, but Kath points out that it is not even lunchtime yet.   “What better time to celebrate having you home again?’ he says.

"What would the nurses say?"

“What would the nurses say about me drinking at this time?” she demands, but he advises her not to worry about them because he is looking after her.   “I don’t want to be caught drink-driving,” she jokes,

Kath is not looking forward to this

and looks around her, rather disconsolately.

Siôn strides into the Deri

Eifion is drinking in the Deri when Siôn comes in, looking for Iolo;  “I want to ask him if I can borrow a suit.”   This makes Eifion laugh, as he points out that Iolo is half his size and half his age.

Siôn says that his suits have seen better days;

"Yes, by the early 80s!"

“Yes, by the early 80s!” is the reply.

"I'm addressing a book conference"

Siôn is addressing a book conference on Saturday, but is advised, “If you talk like you dress, the audience will be asleep.   I know a shop where they sell styles from this century –

"I'm going to town in an hour"

“I’m going to town in an hour, if you want a lift.”   Siôn is pleased to accept the offer.

"Isn't your mother coming home today?"

Then Mark walks in, looking depressed;  “Is your mother coming home today?” asks Siôn;  he reports that she is home already.   “Come over to Y Winllan – I’ve got a book for her.”   Mark is not keen to go back to Maes-y-Deri so he tells Siôn to take it himself.

"I'm busy today"

“I’m busy today – it’s one of Pontshân’s books – Eirwyn can always raise a smile.   Come on!”   Mark reluctantly does so.

"We could go out for a walk"

“Are you warm enough?   Shall I turn the heating up?” asks Brynmor, but Kath says that she is fine.   “Or we could go out for a walk – I’ll wrap you up warm, with a blanket over your knees,” he goes on,

"I don't think I'm quite ready yet"

but she does not think she is quite ready yet.

"The fridge is full of food"

“I’ve been shopping and the fridge is full of food, so whatever you want for dinner is there for you – and I’ll put a wash on, to make sure you have enough clean pyjamas.”

This is all getting too much for Kath

By this time Kath is feeling rather tearful,

"Things will get better, you know"

so he tries to console her, “Things will get better, you know.”

"It's the camera instructions"

In the Deri, Mathew takes the instruction book from a box containing a CCTV camera;  he tells Eifion that it is the instructions for installing the camera.

"So you can spy on us"

“So you can spy on us,” Eifion grumbles, but it is pointed out that it is to spy on the thief.

"Have you considered staff privacy?"

“Have you considered staff privacy?” is the next question, and Matthew replies that he has not,

"What about my right not to have someone stealing?"

referring to his right not to have someone stealing from him.

"Every time you scratch your bottom"

“The thought of someone watching us all the time could drive us mad – I’m serious – like Big Brother watching and following you every time you pick your nose or scratch your bottom,” Eifion goes on.

“This won’t be a problem for anyone except the thief, all right?” Mathew growls, and Eifion imagines that he is a suspect.

"This will find the culprit"

Mathew is quite sure that he does not need to suspect anyone;  “This will find the culprit.”

"Right, I'll be back in an hour"

Eifion finishes his pint and says that he will be back in an hour, but not explaining where he is going, which does nothing to dispel Mathew’s suspicions.

Tyler arrives home

Tyler returns to number 7 and finds Mark sitting, watching the television;  Tyler complains that he has not yet had his lunch

"Fancy a pint later?"

and Mark asks if he fancies a pint later, but he cannot, as he is looking after Greta.

Mark’s phone rings;  “What do you want, Brynmor?” he groans, “I’ll have something here – I’ve got stuff to do –

"I have to babysit for Tyler"

“I have to babysit Greta for Tyler.”

"What's going on here, then?"

This surprises Tyler as Mark continues, “Tell her I’ll see her tomorrow, all right?”

"It's like being in an old people's home"

He explains to Tyler, “Brynmor wants me to go round there for dinner – the place gives me the chills, Ty – hospital bed, commode, wheelchair.   It’s almost like being in an old people’s home – it’s not our house any more.”

"What's this book, then?"

Tyler picks up the book from the table and asks what it is.

Siôn is reluctant to go into the shop

Eifion and Siôn walk into the men’s outfitters, but Siôn is not sure about it.   “You haven’t looked at anything yet,” he is reminded, “I’ve got plenty of time and you need help.

"Look at this – you need a bit of colour"

“Look at this – you need a bit of colour,” Eifion maintains as he draws Siôn’s attention to a red jacket.

Then Siôn notices one of the other shoppers;

"Iwan Ceiriog, the Chief Bard!"

“Hey!   Do you see what I see?” he gasps, “That’s Iwan Ceiriog – the Chief Bard!”   Eifion points out that Siôn is shopping in the same place as the greats.

"I've read it cover-to-cover more than once"

Siôn goes across out and asks, “Iwan Ceiriog?   You wrote Canaeuron y Ddaear? [Canaries of the Earth]   I have it next to my bed – I’ve read it cover-to-cover more than once.”

He appears very flamboyant

“Thank you – every poet likes to hear that someone reads their scribbles,” he haughtily replies, but Siôn describes them as more than scribbles.

"One of the best poets of the 21st century"

He informs Eifion that he is one of the best poets of the 21st century, and Eifion rather scathingly calls him ‘a bit of a peacock’.

“Someone with his talent has every right to brag,” insists Siôn,

"I'd like to see him tile a bathroom"

but Eifion would like to see him tile a bathroom.

Eileen comes visiting

Kath is now installed in the bed and Eileen comes calling;  she has brought chocolates and flowers, and Brynmor remarks that the place is getting more like a florists.

"I'm starting to think I've died and no-one's told me"

“I’m starting to think that I’ve died and no-one’s told me,” says Kath, sarcastically.

"Especially as it happened in my shop"

“I had to come over, especially as it happened in my shop,” says Eileen, and Kath points out that it is a lesson to them all not to go up steps.

"You want to know why I was there so late"

She is quite aware that Eileen really wants to know why she was in the shop so late, and comes up with an extremely unlikely explanation.

A far-fetched tale involving a spider's web

“Well, I left my phone, you see, then I saw this spiders web hanging down, and I thought . . .”

Eileen appreciates that women are wired to see those things.

"Cup of tea, Eileen?"

Brynmor has been listening and offers Eileen a cup of tea, but she has to hurry back.   She suggests, “What if I took you for a walk to the park one afternoon?   Would you like that?”

"It's my legs that don't work, not my brain!"

Kath irritably remarks that she is not a baby in a pram;  “It’s my legs that don’t work, not my brain!” she snaps, and Eileen thinks it best to make a hasty exit.

"I bet she's worried I'm going to sue"

Kath snarls to Brynmor, “I bet she’s worried I’m going to sue her – they were her steps.”

"Nobody there – it must have been kids"

Then there is another knock at the door, but Brynmor finds no-one there, and puts it down to the local children.

"Get rid of the flowers and chocolates"

Kath wants him to get rid of the flowers and chocolates, but he protests that Eileen was only trying to be kind,

"You have to start being nice, Kath"

and recommends that Kath has to start being nice.   “I don’t feel like being nice, Brynmor!” she replies, “I only want to see you and Mark – no-one else – throw them away!”

Siôn is trying on a suit

Siôn comes out of the changing room and Eifion remarks that he was born to wear that suit.

"A man's clothes say something about his soul"

Even Iwan Ceiriog comments, “Nice — I like it!   A man’s clothes say something about his soul, don’t you think?”

"I have a bookshop in Cwmderi"

Siôn takes the opportunity to ask the poet, “I have a bookshop in Cwmderi – I wonder if you would be able to sign copies of your book there?”

"I'll be passing there tonight"

It just so happens that Iwan will be passing Cwmderi tonight, and Siôn will post a message on the website;  Iwan will be there at 6:30pm.   Siôn is very pleased;

"Bendigedig!"

“Bendigedig!” he exclaims.

"He buys his clothes in the same shop as you"

“You were quick there – and he buys his clothes in the same shop as you!” comments Eifion,

Then Siôn notices the price

but then Siôn notices the price of the suit;  “Style does cost,” he is told, but he thinks that it is well worth it.

Mark creeps quietly in . . .

Mark creeps in through the back door of Maes-y-Deri and finds that his mother is asleep;  he puts down the book on the table

. . . and intends to leave the same way

and is about to slip out the same way when Brynmor comes downstairs.

"Siôn wanted her to have the book"

Mark says that Siôn White wanted her to have the book.

"Why were you sneaking out?"

“Why were you sneaking out?” Brynmor demands, and he replies that his mother is sleeping and he is busy.   There is another knock at the door, and again Brynmor dismisses it as kids playing.   “What’s so important that you can’t spend time with your mother?” Brynmor wants to know.

"I didn't want to be in the way"

“I was here when she came home this morning,” says Mark, but he is reminded that he only stayed for a couple of seconds.   Mark insists that he did not want to be in the way.

"The children have been doing it all afternoon"

There is another knock at the door, and Brynmor complains that the children have been doing it all afternoon.

"She might have come home too early"

He tells Mark to sit down;  “I’m starting to worry about her – she might have come home too early.”   Mark comments that she is there now,

"There's no point me being here"

and there is no point him being there while she is sleeping.

“You have to face what has happened,”stresses Brynmor, “She can’t run away from people.”

"Look, it's hard to see her lying there"

Mark insists that he is not running away, and explains, “Look, it’s hard to see her lying there, unable to move or do anything.”   Brynmor appreciates that, but no matter how hard it is for them to see her like that, it will never be as hard as it is for her.

"I told Tyler I wouldn't be long"

Mark comes up with the excuse that he told Tyler he would not be long, and leaves the house in a hurry.

Eifion and Tyler are performing to camera . . .

Eifion and Tyler are dancing about in front of APD, under the gaze of the newly installed camera.

. . . much to Jason's displeasure

Jason comes out to admonish them for this behaviour,

"Show us you moves, Jason!"

but Tyler encourages him, “Show us your moves, Jason!”

"I've seen an elephant do a better moonwalk!"

Jason tells them to get back to work commenting, “I’ve seen an elephant do a better moonwalk than that!”

"Tonight, live from Cwmderi . . ."

Using a plastic flamingo as a microphone, Eifion announces, “Tonight, live from Cwmderi, for one night only, the famous,

". . . the incredible Jason Francis!"

“the incredible, the unforgettable Jason Francis!”

He goes back into the shop

Jason walks back into APD in disgust.

Kath wakes up with a start

Kath wakes up with a start and tells Brynmor that she was dreaming she was flying.   He advises that Mark called earlier and brought a book from Siôn.

"Why would I want a book from Siôn White?"

“Why would I want a book from Siôn White?” she demands.

"I don't know and I don't care!"

Brynmor wonders where the sheet of paper with her exercises has gone, but she grumbles, “I don’t know and I don’t care!”   He reminds her that she has to keep fit, but all she is interested in is getting her phone;

"The Health Visitor called, but there was no answer"

there she finds there is a text from the health visitor.   “I called, but there was no answer!” she growls, “Why didn’t you answer the door, Brynmor?”

"I thought it was those kids"

With exasperation, he replies that he thought it was those kids;

"I've no idea when she will come back"

Kath has no idea when she will come back now.

"Why don't we get a private carer?"

Brynmor suggests, “Why don’t we get a private carer?   Someone who knows what they’re doing – to look after you around the clock.”

She demands whether she is too much for him, and he maintains that they could do a better job than him.   “You can’t handle this, can you?” Kath says, “Well, tough, Brynmor, because this is the way I am now –

"You know where the door is!"

“if you can’t accept that, well, you know where the door is!”

This shocks Brynmor

He looks very shocked.

A taxi is outside the Deri

As a taxi arrives outside the Deri in the background, the APD van pulls up in front of the shop and Lois gets out;

"Can you please pop over to Llanarthur?"

Jason tells her, “I know you don’t want to hear this, but can you please pop over to Llanarthur for me?   Mrs Davies Goleufryn’s taps are still playing up – sorry, I know it’s late, but I can’t get hold of Iolo.”

"Oh, I suppose so"

Lois reluctantly agrees, and then they notice a young girl, looking rather lost, standing in front of the Deri.

"She's a bit young to be out on her own"

“She’s a bit young to be out on her own,” Jason remarks.

"I hope this won't be an all-night job!"

Lois gets back into the van, hoping that this will not be an all night job.

Tyler approaches the young girl

Tyler approaches from the direction of the medical centre and sees the young girl standing there;

"Olivia?"

Rhys is also coming round the corner, and says, “Olivia?”

"Rhys!"

and she greets him.

Rhys explains to Tyler that she is his cousin’s daughter. and Tyler goes on his way.

"Good job I've still got the key"

It is fortunate that Rhys still has the key to his father’s house, recently vacated by the dodgy copper,

They go inside

and the two of them go inside,

Rhys checks that they have not been seen

after  Rhys has looked around anxiously to see if anyone has noticed them.

At least, the punchbag is no longer there

“What are you doing here?” he wants to know

"I've run away – I want to see Lois"

and Olivia replies that she has run away, because they found out that she had met him, and demands to see Lois.

"You can't do that"

Rhys says that she cannot do that.

"I must – you can't stop me!"

“I must – you can’t stop me!” she insists,

"Your parents will be worried"

but he points out that her parents will be worried.

"They're not my parents!"

“They’re not my parents!   If you won’t get Lois . .”   Rhys tells her that she is safe there,

"We should cool down for a minute"

but that they should cool down for a minute.

"I must see Lois!"

She is very insistent that she must see Lois,

This leaves Rhys in an awkward position

which puts Rhys in rather a quandary.
