Kath lies there in the store-room

Kath remains lying there amidst crisp boxes in the storeroom of the shop.

They have managed to get back from Swansea

Siôn has staggered home to Y Felin, where Eifion supplies him with another drink;  “Got a day off tomorrow, have you?” he asks

"That's the beauty of being freelance"

and is informed that is the beauty of being freelance.

"Who's paying for the taxi, then?"

Iolo wants to know who is paying for the taxi, and in the absence of any volunteers, goes to do it himself.

Britt watches a late night film

It is dark in the chip shop flat where Britt is watching a late night film;   Aaron is unable to sleep and comes in, turning on the light, which startles her.

"Does Dad know you're up?"

“Does Dad know you’re up?” he asks, “You were up this time last night as well.”

“What’s your excuse for being up at this time?” she demands, and he says that he had a nap after school and now cannot sleep.

"This is scary"

“I’m glad of the company, because this programme is scary,” she goes on.

"Why were you so nasty to Kath?"

Cassie has made herself a cup of tea and tells Brynmor, “I know you well enough to know you’re a gentlemen – so why were you so nasty to Kath?”

"You really don't want to know, Cass"

He grunts that she really does not want to know, and she agrees that perhaps she does not,

"Do you want to talk about it?"

but nevertheless encourages him to talk about it.

"I find someone and then I ruin it all   !"

“What for?   It’s the story of my life – I find someone and then I ruin it all!” he groans, “Listen, I’m not ready to ‘go there’, as these youngsters say.”   She wonders what he is going to do about it, either phone for a taxi or have another brandy.

There are no developments at the shop

The scene shifts to the shop, where again no movement can be detected.

"Sorry for callng so late, Dan"

Tyler goes to the Deri flat and apologises for calling so late;  Dani is anxious that they do not awaken the baby.

"Have you got any bleach or degreaser?"

“Have you got any industrial bleach or degreaser?” he asks, “I’ve got some kind of oil stain on the Glyndwr Hotel’s sheets – and I’m supposed to deliver them in five hours!”

Dani is sure that they will be Egyptian cotton, too,

"You're definitely in trouble, good boy!"

pointing out that he is definitely in trouble.

He does not know what to do

“I’ve tried a double wash with white restorer, but no luck,” he exclaims.   She tells him to sit down and take deep breaths;  she will sort it.

Siôn cannot stop himself

Despite his inebriated state, Siôn continues to drink at home and is unsteadily gyrating to the music which is playing.

"He is so embarrassing sometimes!"

“He is so embarrassing sometimes,” sighs Iolo, but Eifion points out that his father is enjoying himself,

"Are you enjoying your new single life?"

and enquires whether Iolo is enjoying his new single life.

"Yes – and looking forward to the future"

“Yes, I am – and I’m looking forward to the future as well,” Iolo replies.

“What happened between us wasn’t all bad, then?” Eifion suggests,

Siôn sings into the table lamp . . .

then Siôn bursts forth into tuneless singing with the music.

“The feeling – what is the feeling, that has no explanation?” he shouts, using the table lamp in place of a microphone,

. . . holding a photo of Gwen

and looking at a photograph of his late wife, Gwen.

"I can't promise top give you an answer"

Cassie continues, “Can I ask you something personal?” and Brynmor cannot promise to give her an answer.   “You know, this business about you ruining everything when you find someone special – self-destruct, yeah?

"Is it because something happened?"

“Is it because something happened?”

“Freud would be overjoyed,” he mutters, and she goes on that people do change their patterns – they discuss things, get to the root of the problem and come to terms with it.

He would rather not go there . . .

He repeats that he does not want to go there.

“But don’t you think Kath’s worth it?” Cassie asks, “Getting to the root of it to keep Kath?”   He is under the impression that he has lost her once and for all, but she does not share his pessimism.

. . . but Cassie suspects a woman is involved

“Listen – we’re friends, right, and I’m not going to judge you, so – I take it that a woman lies behind this pain?”

After a pause, he finally confesses that she is right;

"It was Heulwen"

“It was Heulwen – we met at the local youth club – we knew each other for years before anything happened between us,

"I was in love from the moment I met her"

“but I was in love from the moment I met her – head over heels.”

Cassie prompts him to continue;  “It ended when she got pregnant,”

"And you didn't want a child?"

and she assumes that he did not want a child.   “Oh, I did!” he stresses,

"My big dream was to raise a child"

“My big dream was to raise a child – or even children, come to that.   I wanted it all – a big house in the country, a family, dogs.

"Heulwen had the baby . . . "

“When Kath started spouting off about what it’s like to have children, well, it hit a nerve.   She had the baby,

". . . and brought it up – with her husband"

“and she brought it up – with her husband.”

Now Cassie understands

Now Cassie can understand his feelings.

Kath opens her eyes . . .

Kath is regaining consciousness and opens her eyes;

. . . and tries to move

“Heavens above!” she groans and moved her arms, but finds it painful to raise her head.

"You should thank me for doing the research!"

There is a knock at the door of number 7, and Dani, with Gabriel in his pram, comes in.   “You should be thanking me for doing the research!” she growls, and throws him a packet, containing some miracle cleaning agent.

She gives Tyler application instructions

“You’re lucky I wasn’t sleeping,” she tells him, “You mix it with water and dab it on the sheets.   Does Mathew know yet?”

"I'm not keen on losing my job!"

Tyler says that he is not keen on losing his job, but she protests that it is not his fault – everyone makes mistakes, and she yawns.

Tyler advises that she ought to talk to someone if she cannot sleep,

"I feel rather guilty about Andrea"

but she explains that she just feels rather guilty about Andrea.   “She hasn’t got a job or anywhere to live, now Garry’s left.”

"Garry was the one who dumped her"

Tyler tells her it is not her fault, as Andrea was dumped by Garry, and sets about the cleaning process.

Kath makes further attempts to move

In the darkness of the shop, Kath is attempting to move, and weakly calls for help;

"Can anyone hear me?   Please?"

“Can anyone hear me?   Please?”   She sees that her phone is nearby,

Her phone is out of reach

but is unable to reach it, and is in considerable pain.

"What's going on here, then?"

Now Colin is awake and comes to see what Britt is doing;  “What’s going on here, then?” he asks, and Aaron thinks that he would enjoy this film.

"No – he's scared of ghosts"

Britt is quite clear that he would not, as he is scared of ghosts.   “Don’t be soft,” Colin snarls, “How could I be scared of nonsense like this?

"Right – bed?"

“It’s a con.   Right – bed?   To make sure you get enough sleep.”

"To double the size of those brain cells"

He also tells Aaron that he needs plenty of sleep, “To double the size of those brain cells.”

Aaron thought that he would enjoy stuff like this;  “He enjoy jokes and things – unless he thinks ghosts really do exist!”

"We could take Colin on one of those ghost tours"

Britt suggests that perhaps they could take Colin on one of those ghost tours, and Aaron thinks that would be hilarious.

Britt continues viewing

He returns to bed, although Britt shows no signs of doing so.

Siôn has fallen asleep . . .

By this time, Siôn is sleeping, and Iolo notices that the glass is about to fall from his hand,

. . . and Iolo saves his glass from falling

so he quickly grabs it.   Eifion has found some more alcohol,

"Too late – Dad's out of it!"

but it is pointed out that he is too late, as Siôn is out of it.

"Papa Smurf has fallen asleep!"

“Ah, Papa Smurf has fallen asleep!” he jokes, “He was a good laugh tonight, fair play – but the night doesn’t have to end yet, does it?   You know what we should do now, don’t you?   “Shave half his beard off, like we used to do in the young farmers.”   Iolo forbids this, so Eifion disappears into the kitchen.

Tyler has ben saved

Tyler is amazed by the transformation;

"The stain just comes out!"

“Who would have thought it?   The stain just comes out!” Dani tells him, and he is really grateful.

Andrea comes downstairs

Then Andrea comes downstairs, wondering what is going on;  she says that she could not sleep anyway.

"I've just saved Tyler's job"

“Well, I’ve saved Tyler’s job by cleaning sheets,” Dani explains, “Don’t worry, the Glyndwr and Mathew will never find out.”

"Jobs are very rare"

Andrea appreciates that jobs are very rare,

"I've got a job for you"

and Danny suddenly announces, “I’ve got a job for you – I’m looking for someone to run ‘Dan y Ser’ – do you want to do it?”

"You're not serious?"

Andrea cannot believe this, gasping that it is amazing.

“OK – great – I feel like a fairy godmother tonight, to be honest,” says Dani, but Tyler reminds Andrea that there is not room for her at the house permanently.

"Do you want the flat above the shop?"

Then Dani comes up with another solution;  “Do you want the flat above the shop?   You’ll be doing me a favour, with the shop insurance and security.”

Tyler comments that it looks as if Andrea has landed on her feet;

"I really must be dreaming!"

she thinks that she really is asleep and is dreaming.

"It's like Piccadilly Circus here!"

Mark has also been woken by all the noise and comes downstairs;  “It’s the middle of the night and it’s like Piccadilly Circus here!” he moans.

"Tell Kath what you told me"

Cassie recommends that he should tell Kath what he has told her, but he fears what she would be like;  “No, she’d want me to go and look for the child.

"Heulen is in the past"

“Heulwen is in the past – and that’s where she should stay.”

"I'm the last person to advise you"

Cassie realises that she is the last person who should be giving him advice on the relationship between a parent and child, but is aware that he has thought about it a lot.

"Wanting a child is a very selfish thing"

He repeats that he had always wanted a child;  “But that’s a very selfish thing – wanting some kind of reflection of yourself in the world – leaving your mark in some way.”

"There's a little Brynmor Junior out there"

She points out that whether it is selfish or not, there is a little Brynmor Junior out there somewhere.

"There never was and never will be a Brynmor Junior"

He makes it very clear, “No, as far as I’m concerned, there never was and never will be a Brynmor Junior.”

Kath's moans can be heard

As we look out of the shop window, the sounds of Kath’s moans can be heard;

"Please!  Mathew!"

“Please!   Mathew!” she cries,

"Help me, please!"

and once more tries to reach her phone, “Come on, help me, please!”

Her phone comes to the rescue

The digital assistant on her phone comes to life and asks, “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch that.   Please talk more slowly.”

“Phone Brynmor,” says Kath, but the assistant cannot find a Brynmor in her contacts, and again asks who she would like to call.

"Phone Brynmor!"

When Kath tries again,

"Terry, Bryn Celyn Farm?"

it is suggested that she would like to call Terry, Bryn Celyn Farm, but Kath repeatedly shouts, “No!”

The time the question is asked, Kath mutters, “Ghostbusters.” Then she has a bright idea and issues the instruction,

"Phone ambulance!"

“Phone ambulance!”

"Calling emergency services"

The phone automatically dials 999, “Calling emergency services,” and she breathes a sigh of relief.

"I need my beauty sleep, Brynmor"

Cassie demands whether Brynmor will be going go home to Kath now, as she needs her beauty sleep.   “I’ve got a spare room, of course, but I think it will make things worse between you and Kath if you don’t go home at all.”

He does not say anything

He does not reply, so she continues, “We all make mistakes –

"You're not the first to lose your temper with Kath"

“you’re not the first, and you won’t be the last, to lose your temper with Kath.

A blue light is flashing outside

Then they are surprised by the sound of a vehicle arriving outside and see flashing blue lights.

Iolo makes some artistic improvements

While Siôn is fast asleep, Iolo is busy applying pink food colouring to his facial hair with a toothbrush.   Eifion giggles, “I was wrong about Papa Smurf –

"He looks more like 'Siôn Blewyn Coch'?"

“he looks more like ‘Siôn Blewyn Coch’!”  [Siôn Red Hair – a Welsh children’s story about a fox]

Iolo thinks it ought instead to be, “‘Siôn Blewyn Pink’!” and they fall about laughing.

"You're staying here, good boy!"

Eifion considers that it is time he went home, but Iolo insists, “You’re staying here, good boy,”

Eifion looks optimistic

and Eifion thinks that his luck may have changed,

"I don't want to cop the flak from Dad in the morning!"

but it is explained, “I don’t want to cop the flak from Dad in the morning!   I’ll make us a cup of tea.”

"I hop the boys are all right in the flat"

Seeing the ambulance outside the shop, Brynmor hopes that the boys are all right in the flat.

A thank you kiss for Cassie

He thanks Cassie for listening, and kisses her,
"I've been trying to contact you, Brynmor"

just as Mathew comes running across, having been trying to contact Brynmor.

"So that's why you didn't answer Mathew's call!"

Then Mark also appears on the scene, informing them that his mother has fallen;  he notices Brynmor and Cassie together, and comes to the conclusion, “So that’s why you didn’t answer Mathew’s call.”

Kath is wheeled out of the shop

Kath is wheeled out of the shop, suitably immobilised, by the ambulance crew

"Don't you go anywhere near her!"

and Mark warns Brynmor not to go anywhere near her;

". . . not after spending the night with her!"

“Not after spending the night with her, while Mam was lying there!”

Kath is put in the ambulance

Kath is loaded into the ambulance and the doors are shut.
