Gaynor is on the phone, speaking to the school governors; “Thank you for letting me know,” she says glumly and then informs Hywel that she has been suspended; “There will be a full investigation immediately.”

| "At least we won't wait long for the result" |
He remarks that they will not have to wait long for the result, but Gaynor already knows what that result will be. He emphasises, “Your employment record will show that this was just an exception.”

| "I'm going to lose my job, Hywel!" |
She is convinced that she is going to lose her job, and wonders where Rhys is, as she has not seen him this morning.

| "Rhys went out early" |
“He went out early – he has things to do,” Hywel replies, and she was under the impression that he had things to do as well. She urges him to go, assuring him that she will be fine. “I won’t be long,” he says as he leaves.

Gaynor is distraught.

| "I'm just getting ready for work" |
Dani is feeling some discomfort from the baby, and Garry asks if she is OK. “I’m fine,” she groans, “Just getting ready for work – the diary’s full –

“full of people who just want to know what happened.”

| "Tell them to get lost" |
His advice is that she should tell them to get lost; “Yes, I always talk to clients like that!” she snaps at him.
Then he suggests she should be starting her maternity leave; “Who’s going to cut their hair then?

| "The hair fairy – or you?" |
“The hair fairy – or you?” He laughs that he could try, then Aaron comes up from the bar.

| "Mrs Llywelyn's been banned from school!" |
“Hey, guess what – Mrs Llywelyn’s been banned from the school for tweeting insulting things!” he gleefully announces, and they assume that he means Ffion.

| "No – Gaynor!" |
“No – Gaynor,” he adds, with obvious amusement.
 |
| "They'll have someone else to gossip about, then" |
Dani is glad that they will have someone else to gossip about instead of her.
Garry says that he does not like seeing her like this;

| "What – huge, like an elephant?" |
“What – huge, like an elephant?” she demands, but he explains that he meant to see her struggling, urging her to sit down and put her feet up. They will find someone else to replace her to cut hair.

| "Perfect opportunity for you to take over" |
She cynically regards it as the perfect opportunity for him to take over at the salon, but he insists, “Everything I do isn’t bad, Dan.

“I promise I won’t do anything without checking with you first.”

| "Tesni!" |
Jaclyn marches into number 10, shouts for Tesni and receives no reply; she immediately calls her daughter’s number.

“It’s your mother here – can you phone me back, please?”
 |
| "Good morning, Cwmderi's nightingale!" |
Then someone pokes their head round the door; “Good morning, Cwmderi’s nightingale!” says Ieuan Griffiths,

| "I've got a couple of nice gigs for you" |
“I’ve got a couple of nice gigs for you – £300 each.” Her reaction is not quite what he expected,

| "Tesni's in a relationship with Siôn White!" |
and she snarls that he must have heard that Tesni is in a relationship with Siôn White.

| "Siôn White? He must be paying her!" |
He cannot believe his ears; “Siôn White? He must be paying her!” and then realises what he has said, “She might be doing it out of sympathy.”

| "With a man that age? Disgusting!" |
Jaclyn points out that she is 19 years old; “With a man that age? Disgusting!” He takes that to also refer to his own situation a few weeks ago.

| "The door was open" |
Then someone else comes in through the open door, this time Hywel,

| "That awful slander against Gaynor" |
and Ieuan says, “I’ve heard that awful slander against Gaynor – it can’t possibly be true, of course.”

| "There's going to be an investigation" |
Hywel replies that there is going to be an investigation; “It is true? I’m sorry to hear that!” Ieuan adds.
Hywel’s purpose in being there is that he would like Jaclyn to sing on CwmFM some time, and Ieuan accuses him, “You’re stealing my protégé!”

| "I'm more respectable than that, Ieuan" |
Hywel sneers that he is more respectable than to be an agent for performers, so Ieuan reminds him of this forthcoming investigation, and Hywel leaves rather hurriedly.

The conversation returns to these gigs, about which Jaclyn does not want to make a decision now; “In any case I’m not sure I want to do it,”

| He makes a hasty exit |
which gets rid of Ieuan, temporarily.

| Jinx is working on the Cae Glas website |
At Penrhewl, Jinx is working on the design of the Cae Glas website; “An invitation to nominate someone for a statue to be built in Cwmderi, sponsored by Cae Glas,” he says,

and asks Sioned, “You’re not sponsoring the statue, are you?”
Sioned points out that she is keen to promote the business, and then Eileen comes in; “The village is full of gossip about Gaynor, and Siôn and Tesni.”

| "19-year-old girl with an 80-year-old bloke!" |
Sioned is not surprised; “A 19-year-old girl seeing an 80-year-old bloke!”

| "There was no sign of him in the village |
Her mother thinks that she is overemphasising Siôn’s age and comments that there was no sign of him in the village. Also the book shop was closed.

| "Probably too ashamed!" |
“He’s probably too ashamed – he’s hiding,” Sioned suspects.
Jinx tells Eileen that the website is coming along nicely, and Sioned reveals that there is one nomination for the statue already; she has nominated her mother.

| "I haven't done anything to deserve that" |
“I haven’t done anything to deserve that, have I?” says Eileen, but Sioned considers that she has.

| "You trust me in work, don't you?" |
In the café flat, Izzy asks, “You trust me in work, don’t you? That I’m doing my best for the company?” Mathew confirms that of course he does, so she continues, “Do you trust Jason and Eifion as well?”

| "I trust Jason more than Eifion" |
He says that he trusts Jason more than Eifion.
 |
| "The greenhouse I want is back in stock" |
Then Izzy’s phone sounds; “The greenhouse I want is back in stock!” she squeals, “The one I’m going to put in the garden of our new house!

| "I've always wanted to grow my own food" |
“I’ve always wanted to grow my own food.”
 |
| "Could you call and see your mother" |
They are interrupted by the arrival of Hywel; “Izzy, I wanted to tell you that your mother is feeling quite down,” he says, and Izzy is not surprised. “I’d be grateful if you would call in to see her – she could lose her job – and you know what that would do to her.”

| "She should have thought of that" |
“She should have thought of that – she never considers the effect she has on other people,” is Izzy’s unsympathetic reply.

| "Well, she realises now" |
He points out that she does realise now, and nothing he can say will help. “If you can’t help her, I have no chance! I don’t see why I should, anyway,” says Izzy.
“Because she’s your Mam, and she has helped you in the past,” he explains,

| "She caused me a lot of problems" |
but it is pointed out that she has caused Izzy a lot of problems as well.
“She’s just tried to stop us buying a house,” she reminds Hywel, who does not like seeing Gaynor like this.

| "The best thing I did was to reconcile with Rhys" |
He stresses how things were between him and Rhys in the past, and the best thing that he did was to reconcile with his son.

| "I'll go with you, if you like" |
Mathew volunteers to go with her, if she would like, but she imagines that she would only make things worse; Hywel does not know what else to do,

| "Aaron's still picking on me" |
Aled goes up to the Deri flat to complain, “Aaron’s still picking on me – he finds fault with everything I do.”

| "Probably with good reason" |
Dani thinks that he may have good reason to do so. “The reason is that he is related to the boss – have a word with him, please.”
She tells him to ask Garry, as she is tired, but he moans, “He’s going to side with Aaron.”

| "I'm not sorting this out now, Aled" |
Dani makes it quite clear that she is not sorting this out now, and he goes on, “You’re probably not going to keep the baby, now that you know what Dylan is really like.

| "My child as well – and your brother!" |
She reminds him that the baby is her child as well – and his brother;

he describes the baby as ‘tainted’,

just as Garry comes in to get the Xbox controller for Gwern.

| "Aled thinks I should get rid of the baby" |
“Aled thinks that I should get rid of the baby after it’s born,” Dani tells him,

| Garry indicates that Aled should leave |
and he motions to Aled to go.

| "You agree, don't you?" |
“You agree,” she realises, and after a moment’s thought,
 |
| "If you decide to do that, I'll support you" |
he explains that if she decides to do that, he will support her.
 |
| "You don't want Dylan's baby running around the place" |
“Yes, of course you will – because you don’t want Dylan’s baby running around the place.
 |
| "When it was this size!" |
 |
| "Do you really think I could do that?" |
Then she winces as the baby is kicking; “Do you really think I could do that – give it up for adoption? Is that what you think of me? Do you hate me that much?”

| "Idiot!" |
She walks out of the room, and he mutters the word, “Idiot!” to himself.

| "I can't think straight until I find Tes" |
At Penrhewl, Jaclyn tells them, “I do enjoy the singing – but I don’t know. I can’t think straight until I find Tes.”

| "It's a disgrace, making her mother worry!" |
Sioned considers it a disgrace that she is making her mother worry, and Eileen smiles wryly, having been in the same position many times.

| "Not until you've had legal advice" |
Eileen’s advice is that if singing helps her, she should do it; “But don’t sign any contract with him until you’ve had legal advice.”

| Gaynor is flat out on the sofa |
Izzy arrives at Llwyncelyn to find her mother asleep on the sofa;

| "I haven't seen you for a while" |
she is woken with a start, commenting, “I haven’t seen you for a while,”
 |
| "We could go for a run, if you like" |
and Izzy maintains that she has started running again; she invites her mother to accompany her some time, perhaps one day after work.
“I’m sorry you’re in this situation,” Izzy goes on,

| "Why did you do it, Mam?" |
“Why did you do it?” Gaynor does not know, pointing out that she was lonely. “Poor you – but what about all the young people you’ve insulted? A lot of them are lonely and depressed, too.”

| "Can't you agree with me for once . . ." |
“Izzy, can’t you agree with me for once?” her mother demands, but she points out that she does not agree.
 |
| ". . . or at least show some support?" |
“Or at least show some kind of support?” Gaynor goes on, “But no, what do you do? ou rub salt in the wound by saying that I have no friends!”
 |
| "You don't think you've done anything wrong, do you?" |
“You’re blaming me for this? I was hoping I could help,” snarls Izzy, “But you don’t think you’ve done anything wrong, do you?” Gaynor is sure that her daughter is loving this – seeing her in this situation, but Izzy actually feels sorry for her.

| "I don't need your pity!" |
“I don’t need your pity!” Gaynor shouts,

| "You hate me more than all the others" |
and Izzy can see that she is hated more than all the others her mother has wronged
“Other people like me – Math loves me! So it must be your fault –

| "You're hard, such a snob!" |
“because you’re hard, such a snob, and your standards are too high – even for yourself! I’m glad you can’t look down on me or anyone else any more!

| "It's n wonder you don't have any friends!" |
“It’s no wonder you don’t have any friends!”

| "Get out, Izzy!" |
Her mother turns and screams, “Get out, Izzy!” which her daughter is pleased to do,

| Then she dissolves into tears |
leaving Gaynor in tears.

| Siôn is acting furtively . . . |
Checking to see if the coast is clear, Siôn heads across the road towards the alley,

| . . . but Colin is on the lookout |
but the ever-watchful Colin has noticed and beckons Mark to follow him.
 |
| "Trying to avoid someone, or what?" |
“Are you trying to avoid someone, or what?” shouts Mark,
 |
| "Hiya, Jaclyn!" |
and pretends that he has seen Jaclyn at the other end of the alley, which causes Siôn some alarm.
 |
| "Have you made your nominations yet?" |
To change the subject, he asks if they have made their nominations for the statue yet, instead of messing around.
Two disappointed bookshop customers
In the meantime, two potential customers find the bookshop is closed.

“Come on, boys – you’re part of the community as well. I can’t decide between Owain Glyndŵr, Gwenallt or the Twrch Trwyth [an enchanted wild boar that King Arthur or his men pursued with the aid of Arthur’s dog Cafal] – although there is a statue of that near Ammanford. There’s a book about it in Y Winllan.”

Colin wonders if there are any pictures in this book, as Mark cannot read very well, and Siôn concedes that it is rather academic book;

Dani discovers a vase of flowers in the flat; “To say sorry,” explains Garry, “What I said was unforgivable. I don’t expect you to forgive me,

“but I want you to know that whatever you decide, I’m here for you – to support you – and Seren’s new baby brother. If you need anything, just ask.”

She replies that a cup of tea would be nice, so he sets about making it.

| "I'm going to accept the offer" |
Ieuan is back at number 10, where Jaclyn has made her decision; “I’m going to accept the offer,” which pleases him greatly, and he assumes that she has found Tesni.

| "I have to live my own life, don't I?" |
“No – but I have to live my own life, don’t I?” she says, and he assures her that she will not regret it,
 |
| "In the Deri – or somewhere more tasteful" |
proposing a celebration, either in the Deri or somewhere more tasteful than a cheap and nasty bar.

| "I do work there, remember" |
She reminds him that she works there; “You won’t when you’re famous,” he promises, “Anyway, I was talking about the decor and the owners.” She is not in the mood for celebration, as she needs to talk to Tesni. He regards that as a very unfortunate situation,

| The significance of his stomach noises is unclear |
and his stomach loudly rumbles.

| Izzy is 'knocking them back' |
In the Deri, Izzy is drowning her sorrows, and barman Aaron detects that something has happened; she insists that she is fine and had better go now.

| "If there's anything I can do to help, just ask" |
“Well, if there’s anything I can do, just ask,” he tells her.
 |
| "I love you in a completely inappropriate way!" |
Aled is watching as usual and comes across to the bar, making fun of what Aaron said; “Step-sister Izzy, I love you in a completely inappropriate way!”

| This amuses Aaron |
which makes Aaron laugh.

| "I've found this Twrch Trwyth, Mark" |
Colin is looking up ‘Twrch Trwyth’ on his phone

| He has a rather small picture of a wild boar |
and shows the image to Mark, who thinks they could nominate something better than that. “Something to stop Siôn White in his tracks,” Colin agrees,

| "A dog, perhaps, or a little cat" |
“A dog, perhaps, or a little cat – or a horse!”
 |
| "Ffos Las racecourse is near here" |
Mark suggests a racehorse, as Ffos Las racecourse is near there – or a farm horse.

| "A little pit pony from Pwll Bach" |
“Oh, I know – a horse that used to work in Pwll Bach – a little pit pony. There was an accident in the mine – and this horse saved every injured miner.”

| "Fflam – because he was a light in the darkness" |
Colin is certain that they have hit upon the answer; “I remember him now – Fflam [flame] – because he was the light in the darkness, wasn’t he?

“And Fflam, I remember, he was blind, poor dab.”

| "That's a bit sad, Col" |
Mark looks surprised by this revelation, and says that it is a bit sad.

| "We'll nominate Fflam, the pit hero!" |
“Right, we’ll have to nominate Fflam, the pit hero!” Colin decides.

| "Is that story true?" |
Mark enquires whether the story is true,

| "Siôn White won't be so hoity-toity when he hears about Fflam!" |
and Colin points out, “Of course not, but no-one will know! Siôn White won’t be so hoity-toity when he hears about Fflam, will he?”

| Hywel is waiting for Izzy |
Hywel is waiting in APD when Izzy comes back from Llwyncelyn, and asks, “How did it go?” The reply is that they fell out, again.

| "When are you two going to start being civil?" |
“When are you two going to start being civil to each other?” Hywel demands,
 |
| "We just couldn't agree on anything" |
and she points out that she was civil, but they just could not agree on anything.
He accuses her of not making enough effort; “I have to think about Rhys as well, remember – it’s a lot to deal with.”

| "I can't help you, Hywel" |
Izzy insists, “I have my own life, and I’m happy – I can’t help you.” Mathew emphasises that she has at least tried,
 |
| "She doesn't want me – she doesn't even like me!" |
and Izzy exclaims, “She doesn’t want me – she doesn’t even like me – I tried my best!”
 |
| "This won't affect the house-buying, will it?" |
Mathew hopes that this does not affect their attempts to buy the house;

| "I'll have to think about that" |
“Yes, I’ll have to think about that,” Hywel replies and walks out of the shop.

| "He's not going to let us have the house now!" |
Izzy wails, “I know Hywel Llywelyn – he’s not going to let us have the house now, is he? There’s no point looking forward to things and making plans.

| "Everything gets ruined!" |
“Everything gets ruined – I’m so sorry.”
 |
| "It's not your fault, Izzy" |
Mathew says that it is not her fault, but she continues, “Things never go right for me – honestly, Math, you’re better off without me!”
