"Bit drastic, wasn't it?" |
Next morning, Jason tells Kelly that there is coffee in the pot; she looks decidedly unhappy. “Bit drastic, wasn’t it? Sleeping in the spare bedroom.
"Auntie Anita will think we've had a bust-up" |
Auntie Anita will think we’ve had a bust-up.”
Jason remains silent |
Jason makes no comment, and she goes on, “OK, I’m sorry – I don’t want you to think I’m putting pressure on you, because I’m not.
"I wouldn't tell anyone – especially Jinx" |
“And I wouldn’t tell anyone – especially Jinx. Ancient history – never to be repeated.”
"I have to go to work" |
At last Jason speaks, only to say, “I have to go to work.”
"We have to talk, Jase" |
Kelly pleads with him that they have to talk,
"It's obvious you have a problem" |
because it is obvious he has a problem; he is already on his way out of the door.
Rhys and his father have been for a run; Rhys comments that they made good time,
"For someone my age, you mean!" |
and Hywel adds, “For someone my age, you mean! That last hill kills me every time.”
"We'll go another way next time" |
Rhys suggests they will go another way next time, and will now go and have a shower.
As soon as the radio is switched on . . . |
Hywel turns on the radio, but as soon as he has reached the fridge,
. . . it goes off again |
Gaynor comes in and turns it off again.
“I thought you’d already gone to work,” he says,
"I need some peace and quiet today" |
but she needs the peace and quiet of home to work today.
"There are some Twitter trolls, criticising the programmes" |
He has to attend a meeting at CwmFM later, about some trolls on Twitter who have been criticising the programmes and hiding behind false names online. “Rhys is meeting Matthew after his counselling session – you’ll get some space then. Do you fancy meeting in the Deri for lunch?”
"Perhaps he's considering moving in with them" |
Gaynor imagines that perhaps Rhys is considering moving in with Mathew and Izzy, but Hywel thinks that he is happy enough at Llwyncelyn;
"Anyway, I like having him around" |
“And anyway, I like having him around.” He is confident that those trolls will be gone by the end of the afternoon.
The new café venture is underway |
Outside the Deri, Aaron is clearing up the plates from breakfast;
"I get bed and no breakfast these days" |
Aled compliments him, “That was lovely – I get bed and no breakfast these days!”
"You can have breakfast on the house" |
Aaron says that he can have the meal on the house, “As you’re my first customer,” but Garry is approaching and overrules this, pointing out that Aled can pay like everyone else.
"There's no room for favours in business!" |
“There’s no room for favours in business!” he goes on, “If anything you charge your friends and family more.” Aled has no problem with that, but suggests that Aaron put the change in the ‘tips’ jar for the landlord –
"See if it will make him smile!" |
to see if it will make him smile.
Tyler still has not mastered the art of window cleaning |
Tyler is cleaning the Deri windows, apparently in a very half-hearted fashion; “I don’t feel safe working in the street,” he complains to Garry,
"It's a good idea to get you out of the house" |
who regards it as a good idea to get him out of the house. “I’m an easy target here,” Tyler whinges, looking around timidly, “Like I said, you know how to handle these things – I don’t.”
Garry advises that it is important to act normally and not to show that he is scared;
"After you've finished here, go to the chip shop" |
“After you’ve finished here, go to the chip shop.”
Jinx is chatting to Rhys |
Jinx and Rhys emerge from the ‘Menter’ building, just as Jason comes round the corner by APD and watches them.
"Somewhere to go for tea and cakes" |
Ffion approaches, commenting to him, “It will be nice to have somewhere to go for tea and cakes again,”
"Café open" |
as we see the blackboard outside the Deri.
"I don't know what all the fuss is about" |
“To be honest with you, I don’t know what all the fuss is about,” Jason grumbles.
"I hope it will help Aaron to settle down" |
She hopes that it will help Aaron to settle down, but he exclaims, “Aaron?
"Don't make out he's some kind of angel" |
“Don’t make out that Aaron’s some kind of angel with me, Ffion, please!”
She wonders what is the matter with him today;
"Come on, tell Auntie Ffi!" |
“I know that face – come on, tell Auntie Ffi! Are you angry with me because I let Jinx stay? You can’t be glad that he’s back – he’s got history with Kelly. But don’t worry, knowing Jinx, he’ll move on soon enough”
"I'm not worried, thanks, Auntie Ffi!" |
Jason stresses that he is not worried; “Thanks, Auntie Ffi!” he snarls and retreats towards APD, leaving her puzzled, but then apologises. “I’m under a lot of pressure – do you want a list?”
"Come over to the flat if you want to talk" |
She invites him over to the flat if he would like to talk; she will be home at lunchtime.
"You and Ffion?" |
In the Deri, Jinx and Rhys sit down with their coffee; “You and Ffion?” Jinx demands,
"We lived together for about a year" |
and is told that they lived together for about a year – in fact they were still sleeping together after they finished, just as a bit of fun.
Jinx hear of the pregnancy and the abortion |
After a pause, Rhys reveals, “She fell pregnant – she didn’t say a word until after she had the abortion – I found out she’d been discussing it with Dad.” Jinx appreciates that is what came between him and his father, but Rhys continues, “He’s never been proud of me – I was a mistake, and for a long time he didn’t want me to forget that.”
"Early experiences can leave their mark" |
Jinx knows that early experiences can leave their mark; “A lot of therapies concentrate on that period.” Rhys has been meaning to ask if he offers one-to-one sessions, but Jinx is hesitant; “With the history I have with Ffion, it might be awkward. Rhys however says that he is fine with that.
In that case, Jinx points out they would have to stop having coffee and a chat. He will have to go now, as he has a lot to do; “I’ve promised to take Ffion shopping after work.”
"That used to be my job, after she lost her licence" |
“That used to be my job, after she lost her licence,” recalls Rhys, “Drink and drive – bound to happen to an alcoholic.”
This is news to Jinx |
This comes as a revelation to Jinx.
Tesni is back selling cosmetics |
Tesni has resurrected her cosmetics business, and is present demonstrating her wares to Kelly, who enthuses, “That’s lush!” Tesni is quick to point out that it can only be purchased through her.
"Jason's favourite smell is cement!" |
“I’m impressed with your sales pitch – I just hope it will have the desired effect on Jason,” Kelly hopes, “Because his favourite smell is cement!” Tesni is confident that he will not be able to keep his hands off Kelly, and she toys with the idea of buying a lorryload.
"If it pleases Jason, I'll order more" |
For the moment she will have one, and if it pleases Jason, she will order more. Tesni is grateful for her support; “It hasn’t been easy restarting this business,”
"You're doing a good job, Tesni" |
but Kelly thinks she is doing a good job, all things considered. “I don’t have a choice now I haven’t got a job,” Tesni groans.
"Life hasn't been a bed of roses, has it?" |
Kelly already knows something of the story behind that, and remarks, “Life hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses recently, has it?”
"I still can't understand why I lost the job" |
Tesni still cannot understand why she lost her job in the bookshop, and what is bugging her is that Jinx is now working for Siôn; “I must have done something to upset him – we had a laugh together –
"He's a lovely man once you get to know him" |
“he’s a lovely man once you get to know him. But, for some reason, he doesn’t want anything to do with me – the whole thing is really getting me down!”
Kelly is putting two and two together |
Kelly finds that this confirms her suspicions, and is incredulous that this could be the case; Tesni urges her to explain.
"Auntie Anita said Siôn has fallen in love with someone . . ." |
After some prevarication, Kelly reveals, “Auntie Anita said that Siôn’s fallen head over heels in love with someone – but she didn’t say who.
". . . it's you, obviously!" |
“It’s you, obviously! She said he didn’t have a chance, as this person was totally out of his league – no offence to Siôn, like.”
"Don't be silly" |
Tesni cannot believe that this hypothesis is true, but Kelly insists, “If Siôn was acting weird around you, he’s smitten –
"He sacked you before his feelings got too much, like" |
“and sacked you before his feelings got too much, like.”
Tesni thinks this is fantasy |
Tesni is speechless, but Kelly goes on to insist, “100% – I’m telling you, Tes,
"Siôn White's in love with you!" |
“Siôn White’s in love with you!”
The prospect is troubling |
Tesni looks scared.
Tyler sets up his stepladder . . . |
Tyler sets up his stepladder outside the chip shop and goes inside to fill his bucket;
. . . but someone is lurking nearby . . . |
in his absence, someone who has been lurking round the corner approaches,
. . . and sabotages it |
removes a bolt from the stepladder and walks away.
"Gaynor can be iffy sometimes" |
In the Deri, Mathew asks Rhys if Gaynor is happy that he is staying at Llwyncelyn; “She can be iffy sometimes,” is the reply, “But Dad’s been really supportive, fair play. We understand each other better – I let things get too much for me.”
"We've all been there" |
Mathew agrees that they have all been there, and Rhys is quite sure that talking with professional people helps, and also with friends;
"Things are slowly improving" |
“Things are slowly improving.”
"You're lucky you're not looking for a house" |
Mathew says that he is lucky he is not looking for a house, as he and Izzy have to start again.
Izzy walks past her mother |
As Izzy passes with a bottle of water,
"You're putting me to shame" |
her mother comments, “Water at lunchtime – you’re putting me to shame.”
Izzy answers that it is not hard to do, and Gaynor demands, “When is this silly point-scoring going to stop?” Hywel invite her to come and sit with them, but she explains she is having lunch with Mathew and Rhys.
"Mathew and Rhys seem to be good friends again" |
Gaynor remarks that they seem to be good friends again these days, and Izzy maintains, “Having good friends you can talk to about your problems is important –
"You wouldn't understand – you don't have any friends!" |
“but you wouldn’t understand that, because you don’t have any!”
Jason tells his troubles to Ffion |
Jason is at Cysgod y Glyn, and complains to Ffion, “Ifan’s crying a lot more than he used to – he’s not happy.”
"It's hard to raise a child on your own" |
Ffion sympathises that it is hard to raise a child on one’s own,
"I never thought I'd miss Mam and Dai" |
and he never thought that he would miss Mam and Dai as backup – to fill the gap that Sara has left.
"You're a good father, Jason" |
“You’re a good father, Jason,” she points out, “You always have been,” but he admits that he is struggling.
"It's not fair on Kelly, is it?" |
“Kelly helps out, of course, but this is not fair on her, is it?” he continues, “When we started seeing each other, I only had Ifan for half the time – but now . . . It’s more than a strain on our relationship . . .”
Then Jason 'clams up |
Then he thinks it wise to say no more.
"When was the last time you sent out for a drink" |
Ffion wonders when was the last time they both went out for a drink together, and he cannot remember; “You need time to relax as a couple and enjoy yourselves,” she advises.
"You're right, as usual, Ffion" |
He acknowledges that she is right, as usual, and will try that approach; he thanks Ffion for listening.
"Are you going to sing a song?" |
As she moves Jinx’s guitar, he comes in and asks if she is going to sing a song;
"You know everything about me" |
“You know I can’t sing – you’ve known me long enough to know everything about me,” she replies,
"And some things you haven't told me" |
and he looks thoughtful.
"Put your glad rags on – we're going out!" |
Jason hurries into Bryntirion and tells Kelly, “Put your glad rags on – we’re going out. I’ve arranged for Anita to pick Ifan up from crèche, so I can take you to the Deri.
Kelly could do with 'a bit of fun' |
“I think we need a bit of fun.”
"Just what the doctor ordered" |
This cheers up Kelly; “OK, go on, then – just what the doctor ordered.”
Teleri James' parents are complaining |
Gaynor is reading an e-mail from the troublesome parents, urging her to reconsider the decision not to expel Miriam Morris.
Gaynor joins the 'Twitterati' |
After looking at the screen for a few moments, Gaynor signs up for Twitter, first entering the name @GAYNOR, but then thinking better of it,
. . . and chooses an unidentifiable name |
and calling herself @DEWIYNDWEUD [which translates as ‘say it’].
She works out what she is going to type . . . |
The account appears to be opened, and she debates with herself what to type.
. . . which denigrates such parents |
“Children are so pathetic – they moan to their parents about everything. There is no need to take these wimps seriously.” She takes off her glasses and looks pleased with herself.
Her new account has attracted several 'likes' |
While she is drying the dishes we can hear that the account is gathering several ‘likes’, which cause her some satisfaction.
"You don't get hangovers, drinking vintage" |
In the Deri, Jason pours two glasses of wine, commenting, “I’ll regret this if Ifan wakes up at three in the morning.” Kelly assures him that you do not get hangovers, drinking vintage.
"About our situation at home . . ." |
“Right, Kelly, about our situation at home – things will get better in time, I’m quite sure of that.”
"Have you considered counselling?" |
She does not look so confident, and she tells him not to pressure himself. He admits that he is worried, and she wonders if he has considered counselling.
"There's plenty of help out there" |
“There’s plenty of help and advice out there – confidential,” she goes on, and he will consider it, if it will help.
Kelly takes out a paper she has printed . . . |
She takes from her bag something which she has printed out for him,
. . . about Erectile Dysfunction |
headed, in large letters, ‘Erectile Dysfunction’, and suggests he could get something from the chemist for a few weeks.
"It's nothing to be ashamed of, Jase" |
“You know – it’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
"I thought we were taking about getting help with Ifan" |
Jason had been under the impression they were talking about getting help with Ifan, and can see what Kelly means, but stresses that it only happened once.
"This is embarrassing" |
She feels embarrassed now and apologises to him; he puts it down to a misunderstanding,
"I've just remembered I have to lock up APD" |
and manufactures the excuse that has just remembered he had to lock up tonight, as Mathew wanted to go home early. He assures Kelly he will not be long.
Tyler is still cleaning the chip shop windows . . . |
Tyler is still cleaning the chip shop windows,
. . . and the mystery trouble-maker is still watching |
and the mystery person is still watching him from a safe distance;
As Tyler climbs the stepladder . . . |
as he climbs the stepladder, the rung parts company with the rest of the structure,
. . . he ends up in a heap on the pavement |
throwing him to the ground, with an injured arm.
Garry is approaching and is told that someone has taken the screws out;
"I could have broken my neck!" |
“Is that enough proof for you? I could have broken my neck!” Tyler screams.
"Well you didn't, so be grateful" |
“Well you didn’t, so be grateful,” is Garry’s response.
"Someone's watching me!" |
Tyler is sure that this is a warning and someone is watching him. “You’re worrying about nothing,” says Garry,
"No-one will come near you while I'm around" |
“Nobody will come near you while I’m around – this was probably kids, playing a prank.
"Clear up the mess and go home" |
“You’ve done enough today – clear up the mess and go home.”
If we had not already guessed . . . |
From his hiding place behind a car, we can see that is it Aled,
. . . the prankster is Aled, getting his own back |
who is looking happy with the discomfort he has caused Tyler

Jason goes back to Bryntirion, in an upset mood;

Then he takes from his pocket . . . |
