3 April 2025

Sioned has a rude awakening

Sioned is soundly asleep on the sofa when the sound of a message arriving on her phone abruptly awakens her at 07:28;  she quickly looks at the phone, which is a warning from the same number as before.

She is instructed where to meet DJ

There is a ‘What3Words’ reference ///COCHED.ETIFEDD.HEDFANAF. [which translates as Red.Inheritance.Aviation] accompanied by the words, ‘Remember – not a word to anyone.’   The location given is south of the A477, north-east of Pembroke.

She makes sure she has the money . . .

In a panic, she picks up her envelope containing money

. . . as well as the police phone number

as well as the card from the police liaison officer, which is by the phone, and rushes upstairs.

Mathew is putting the shop wares outside

Mathew comes out of APD with a bin full of mops and places it outside;

Howard comes out of the shop . . .

Howard is just emerging from the shop across the road, looking at his farming magazine, when he hears the sound of a door opening.

. . . and notices Kelly across the road

He looks up and is surprised to see Kelly coming out of number 7 and is very impressed by her red hair.

"You haven't been misbehaving again, have you?"

“You haven’t been misbehaving again have you?” He asks, “The last time I saw you in that outfit, you were in the dock – but your hair was blonde then!

"Very nice – I like the colour!"

“Very nice – I like the colour!”

"I needed a change"

She replies that she needed a change after all that has happened and wonders if there is any news about Lili.

"Sorry – no news"

He is sorry to inform her that there is none.

Sioned has wasted no time getting to the meeting place

At the location which has been given to her, Sioned gets out of the 4x4, checking that Jac is safely locked in;

"DJ – are you here?"

she looks around the car park, but cannot see any sign of DJ.   She is startled by the sound of a car engine

He is nowhere to be seen

and desperately calls, “DJ?” but there is no answer.

In desperation she dials the number . . .

Then she dials the number which contacted her and as a motorcycle passes, she can hear a mobile phone ringing.

. . . and goes in search of the ringing phone

She dashes towards the sound, shouting, “Lili, love – where are you?”

She finds Lili safe and well . . .

Then she is mightily relieved to find her daughter, snugly wrapped in her car seat, with the mobile phone on top of the blanket, between two parked cars.

. . . and is ecstatic

She is overjoyed to be reunited with Lili, sobbing and saying how sorry she is.

"Lleucu – I'm not calling again!"

SiĆ“n brings in breakfast and shouts to Lleucu, “I’m not calling again!”

"I'm not going back to school"

She comes down, reminding him that she is not going back to school.   “Until September,” he replies,

"I don't know about that"

but she is doubtful about that.

“In the meantime, you can’t waste away in bed,” he tells her,

"Jinx wants a deep clean at Deri Fawr"

“Jinx wants a deep clean at Deri Fawr – Dani’s expecting you there by 9:30.”

"I'm not sure about working with Dani"

She is not sure about working with Dani, but SiĆ“n explains that she cannot choose who she works with in the big wide world.

"It's time to learn how to be an adult"

“It’s time to learn how to be an adult – get out of bed and earn some money – or go back to school this morning!   It’s up to you.”

This makes Lleucu think

Lleucu has some serious thinking to do.

Diane reads the Western Post . . .

In the deli, Diane is reading the Western Post,

. . . especially this item

particularly the item on Jason’s arrest, and is looking very downhearted

Howard is given his breakfast

when Eileen brings over Howard’s breakfast.

"Have you spoken to Sioned?"

Mathew comes rushing in and asks Eileen if she has spoken to her daughter.   “Have they found her?” she exclaims.

"Where is she?"

Howard jumps up and demands where she is.

"She wants to meet me outside Haverfordwest"

Mathew is not sure, “But Sioned has asked me to meet outside Haverfordwest.”

"He must be catching a ferry to Ireland"

Howard assumes that he was catching a ferry to Ireland.

"We can go and get Penrhewl ready"

Eileen is told that Sioned wanted Mathew to go on his own, so Howard suggests to Eileen that they should go to Penrhewl in order to get the place ready for her return.

"That's great news!"

Eileen is so overjoyed

Howard was not expecting that

that she actually hugs Howard, commenting, “That is good news, isn’t it?”

Diane wishes she was that happy

Diane looks on, wishing that she had something to be happy about.

Lleucu hesitantly enters Deri Fawr

Dani is preparing to start work at Deri Fawr when Lleucu comes in, rather awkwardly;

"You are expecting me, aren't you?"

“You are expecting me, aren’t you?”

"I didn't know if you would come"

Dani had been doubtful that she would actually come.

“Because of Dad? Lleucu asks,

"I'm sorry about what happened"

while Dani says how sorry she is about what happened.

"You don't deserve this"

“Whatever’s happened between Cai and me, you don’t deserve this – so I hope you’re OK.”
Lleucu thanks her for talking plainly;  she is fed up with people saying things to protect her,

"I can handle the truth"

but insists that she can handle the truth – and wants the truth.

"He's not ready for visitors, apparently"

She has not yet been to see her father;  “I’ve asked, but he’s not ready for visitors, apparently.”   Dani tells her to just give him time

"If you want to talk, I'm here for you"

and if she wants to ask anything or just to talk, Dani is there for her.   Lleucu does not want to talk, just at the moment.

"Right, where do you want me to start?"

“Right, where do you want me to start, because SiĆ“n has dragged me from a really nice dream about Tom Hardy in Ibiza?

"To prove I can learn to be an adult"

“This is my chance to prove I can learn how to be an adult, I suppose.”

"And Jac slept through everything?"

As they wait for Lili to be checked over, Mathew is surprised that Jac just slept through everything and remarks that Lili does not seem any worse for her experience.

"I always knew DJ would look after her"

“I always knew that DJ would look after her,” says Sioned.

"Did the police find her?"

Mathew demands what happened;  “Did the police find her?”

“No – I received a text just giving me a location from DJ – I didn’t have time to think.   I had to jump in the car and go.”

"Anything could have happened to her"

He rebukes her that anything could have happened to her, wanting to know why she did not phone him.

"I didn't have time, Math"

“I didn’t have time, Math!   I was worried DJ would leave and I’d miss my one chance – Lili was the important one.”

"I'm just glad that DJ saw sense"

Mathew is just glad that DJ saw sense.   “We’re all back together now, aren’t we?” sighs Sioned,

"We're ready for you now, Sioned"

as a nurse comes in to advise that they are ready for her now.

There is a persistent banging in the door

There is a repeated knocking at the door of Bryntirion and Diane’s phone is also sounding;  Kelly’s voice is heard, “Diane!   I can hear your phone from here – I know you’re there!   I’m going to carry on ringing and knocking until you answer!”

Diane goes to open it . . .

Diane gives in and opens the door,

. . . then sits down again

then resumes her seat on the sofa.

"Jason's been to court this morning"

She is told, “If you’d bothered to check your phone, you’d know that Jason has been in court this morning.”

Diane remains silent, so Kelly repeats what she said;

"I know"

Diane was aware of that,

"Where the hell were you, then?"

so is asked, “Where the hell were you, then?   You know what?   I know the last few days have been flippin’ difficult for you . . .”

"I don't care about Jason any more"

Diane protests, “No, you don’t know – you haven’t got a flipping clue!   I don’t care about Jason any more.”

Kelly knows very well that she does not mean that

"He's on remand . . ."

and continues, “They’ve refused bail so he’s on remand until the case – which could be –

". . . possibly for months"

“I don’t know – months away.”

"After that stunt with the river"

Diane simply regards that as a good thing;  “I mean it – after the stunt with the river, stealing from APD and now this . . .”

"What's that about APD?"

Kelly tells her to slow down, wanting to know what that is about APD.

"Jason and DJ stole the money from APD"

“Jason stole the money from APD – him and DJ.   Mathew told me – he’s known for a while, apparently.   For days now, I’ve been trying to work out where I went wrong and do you know what?

"If hue chooses to act like that . . ."

“Jason is a fully grown adult and if he chooses to act like a coward who’s underhand and unscrupulous, that’s up to him.   I’m sure he’ll see plenty of that in prison.”

Sioned returns with Lili

Sioned returns with the baby after the checkup reporting that she just had to make a statement and that Lili is fine;

"Now we can all go home"

“Now we can all go home,” as the baby is becoming quite vociferous.

Jac is now taking notice

Mathew tells Jac,

"You're looking forward to seeing your sister again, aren't you?"

“You’re looking forward to seeing your sister again, aren’t you?”

Sioned looks at the phone . . .

Sioned picks up the phone from the car seat

. . . and stuffs it in her pocket

and hides it in her pocket

"We can have a night in together"

as Mathew continues that they can all have a night in together.

"You've done a good job, Lleucu"

The cleaning has been done at Deri Fawr, with Dani telling Lleucu that she has done a good job and handing her an envelope with her pay.

"This will keep SiƓn happy"

“This will keep SiĆ“n happy,” she says, “Is this a one-off, or have you got more jobs for me?”

"I don't have enough work"

Dani would love to give her more work, but she does not have enough to employ someone, which disappoints Lleucu, who maintains that she loves working with Dani;

"At least I've proved to SiƓn . . ."

“But at least I’ve proved to SiĆ“n that I’m in the age group where it’s difficult to find work.

"Glad the holidays are starting early"

“I’m glad the holidays are starting early.”  Lleucu picks up her jacket and goes.

"He looked pitiful in the dock, mind"

Kelly informs Diane, “He looked pitiful in the dock, mind,” as she brings across two mugs of tea.

"It's rather late to be loyal now"

Diane wonders why Kelly is so worried about him, stressing that it is rather late to be loyal now – after she had an affair, “And demanded £50,000 for, what – a couple of months of marriage?”

"Shoot from the hip, Diane, please!"

“Shoot from the hip, Diane, please!” comments Kelly.

Diane thinks that Kelly feels guilty and she might as well admit it;

"Jason is a little boy at heart"

“Perhaps so, but Jason is a little boy at heart – I don’t think he’d survive in jail.   That’s why I want to start a rota to go and visit him.”

"I won't be going anywhere near him

Diane sneers that she does not intend going anywhere near him.

Howard is quite domesticated

The table at Penrhewl is laden with cakes and biscuits, placed there by Howard, who appears quite pleased with his efforts.   Eileen comes in to advise that they are on their way and is quite impressed by the spread.

"We had to do something to celebrate"

He stresses, “We had to do something to celebrate – now that everything is all right again.   Lili’s safe – and that’s all that matters.”

Eileen is very pleased to see Lili again

Mathew and Sioned come in, each carrying one of the twins, with Sioned informing her mother that she is completely unharmed.

"Did the police mention DJ?"

Howard asks if the police mentioned DJ, but Mathew says that he has run away again;  “If I get hold of him!” Howard threatens,

"I hope I never have to see him again"

but Sioned simply hopes that she never has to see him again, as she throws down her coat

That phone slips from the pocket

and the phone slips from the pocket.

"Is anyone going to put the kettle on?"

Eileen declares that it is all behind them now and they do not even have to hear his name again.   “Right, is anyone going to put the kettle on or what?” enquires Sioned and Howard will do so.

Lleucu is doing her nails

Lleucu is filing her nails when SiĆ“n comes into the house

"How did it go?"

and asks how she got on at work;  “Great – she gave me £20 and praised my work,” she replies,

"She can't offer me any more shifts"

“But, unfortunately, she hasn’t got enough work to offer me more shifts,” which SiĆ“n regards as a shame.

“I’ve been thinking about what you said this morning – about a new start –

"A few months off might do me good"

“I am considering going back to the sixth form in September.   A few months off might do me good – a recharge.”

"Everything will be better by September"

SiĆ“n approves of that attitude;  “Everything will be better for everyone by September – but don’t worry – you’ll have plenty of money in the meantime.

"Eileen has a job for you at Tamed"

“Eileen has a job for you at Tamed – you might get tips – enough money to spend on manicures and gels – and whatever the latest trends are.”

Not what she had been hoping

Lleucu does not look exactly happy about this.

"You and me – in turns"

Kelly instructs Diane, “You and me in turns – what do you say?   Keep his spirits up, because do you know what?

"Are you in or what?"

“I don’t think I’d cope if something happened to him in there.   Are you in or what?”

"He doesn't deserve his mother's love"

Diane shakes her head;  “He doesn’t deserve his mothers love.”

Kelly continues, “Jason has promised on Ifan’s life that he’s not guilty.”

"It's about time you opened your eyes!"

“Well, shame on him, then – and it’s about time you opened your eyes!   I’m tired of his antics – I’m tired of having to justify his behaviour all the time.

"Worrying about everyone and everything"

“And I’m tired of worrying about everyone and everything – the council, Dai – yes, Dai!”

"It just proves you do care about Jason"

Kelly asks if everything is all right;  “You know, between you and Dai, like?   Diane, this is shock – and do you know what?   It just proves that you do care about Jason – but, I get it, you don’t want to.”

'I want to sit here on my own!"

“The only thing this proves is that I want to sit here on my own and stop worrying about everyone and everything!” snarls Diane,

She snatches the tea towel . . .

snatching the tea towel from Kelly’s hands.

. . . which Kelly takes as . . .

Kelly picks up her handbag

. . . her cue to go

and walks out of the house.

“It doesn’t feel real,” says Mathew

"I put them both in the same cot"

and Sioned comes downstairs, telling them that she has put both the twins in the same cot and they are lying there, giggling.

"Whose phone is this?"

Then Mathew finds DJ’s phone and asks whose it is;

"Mine – give it to me!"

“Mine – give it to me!” snaps Sioned, but he has already noticed something.

"Who's asking for money?"

“Who’s asking for money?   What’s going on?”

"DJ got in touch yesterday"

Sioned is forced to explain that DJ got in touch yesterday.   He wanted to give Lili back – she did not phone the police, because she wanted Lili back.

"I had to be ready to pick her up"

“I had to be ready to pick her up and the last thing I wanted was people making things more complicated by calling the police!”

"That's the job of the police"

Mathew points out that is the job of the police;  “DJ would never have given Lili back if he thought I’d go to the police!” she snarls.

"So you were protecting him?"

Mathew tosses the phone on to the table;  “So you were protecting him?”

"Why did you have the phone?"

Eileen cannot understand why she has that phone, so it is explained that DJ left the phone with Lili so that her mother could find her.

"Lili was what was important to me!"

“I didn’t even see DJ – he wasn’t there – just getting Lili back was what was important to me!   I wasn’t trying to protect him.”

"But you let him escape"

Mathew protests, “But you let him escape – the same way you didn’t tell the police about the drugs – and that’s what the money was –

"You were helping him to escape!

“you were helping him to escape.”

Sioned stresses that she still has the money,

"But you intended to give it to DJ"

but her mother points out that she was intending to give it to DJ.

"Get out – all of you!"

“I can’t do this now – get out, all of you!” screams Sioned,

"I don't want you here!"

“If you’re going to question me, I don’t want you here!”

Howard insists that he is not doing any questioning,

"I'm just happy Lili's back"

but is just happy that Lili is back.

"I don't want any of you here!"

Nevertheless, Sioned is adamant that she does not want any of them there.

When her mother tells her not to be silly, Sioned once again orders her to go;  “I want to be left alone – just me and the children – please don’t make things awkward!”

"Phone me when things get the better of you"

As she leaves, Eileen tells her daughter, “Phone me when things get the better of you.”   Howard gets up and walks out.

"And you, Math"

Sioned wants Mathew, to go as well,

"I'm not going anywhere . . ."

but he maintains that he is not going anywhere;

". . . I want to be here for you"

he just wants to be there for her.

"You want more than that, don't you?"

“You want more than that, don’t you?” Sioned replies,

"No"

and he says that he does not, but she does not believe him.

"I had to put my children before you"

“It sounds like you don’t understand that I had to put my children before you today.”

"Do you still want what we've got?"

“I just don’t know where I stand with you,” he says, “Do you still want what we’ve got?”

"My life is a mess at the moment . . ."

After a pause she answers, “My life is a mess at the moment –

". . . you can't expect me to answer that"

“ can’t expect me to answer that.”

"You just did"

He sadly tells her, “You just did,”

Mathew walks out of the house

gets up and walks out of the house.
