Jinx comes downstairs and it is evident that he has acquired a cold;

“Hey – what on earth are you doing here?” he exclaims, “You’ve been here all night, then – great! And what’s all this mess?”

Arwen simply replies that they were peckish; Jinx warns her that she cannot do this on a school night and she is already late.

"Chill, Jinx" |
“Chill, Jinx,” she tells him, but he goes on to say that if her mother was there now . . .
“She’s not, though – and you’re late as well!” she argues.

"You have to ask first" |
Jinx points out to her that if she wants someone to stay, she has to ask first.

"You're jealous!" |
“You’re jealous because your girlfriend packed her bags and went to Italy,” says Arwen.
“I know you’re finding it difficult without your mother – I miss her too – but we have to make this work. Arwen asks her guest if he wants some breakfast;

“He can have breakfast at home – and he can go now!” shouts Jinx, “I don’t want to see you again – do you understand?”
The boy hurries to put on his shoes

but in response, she snuggles down in the sleeping bag once again.

Sioned is leaving the deli when Dani comes along the road;

“I just wanted to say that I’m glad Lili’s back,” she tells Sioned, “And I’m sorry I haven’t seen you.” Sioned is grateful for her support

“I hear Howard is back with you,” Dani continues, revealing that people were talking about the drama in the Deri between him and Mathew.

As Colin drinks his cup of tea, he remarks, “Well, I’ve told her ‘five fruit a day to keep the doctor healthy’ – but she doesn’t listen to me. No, hold on, ‘five fruit a day, no flu for long’ . . .”

Britt also find an envelope addressed to Kylie’s parents and guardians, but Colin is still trying to remember the rhyme,

In the pharmacy, Jinx is looking for something to help with his cold; “I’ll stick with this – it’s worked in the past,” as he puts down a packet on the counter.

Gaynor advises that he should drink water and get plenty of sleep, but he thinks there is a little chance of that;

“Arwen’s friend is always over – do you know Ethan Young? He had an unofficial sleepover last night, but I might as well talk to this counter than try to get Arwen to listen.”

Gaynor appreciates that she is going through a very difficult time at the moment;

Dani is at work, cleaning in the Deri, when Mathew comes in, looking very ‘hung-over’. Dani assumes that he had a big night; he agrees that it was bigger than he had expected.

“Yes, I heard that things got a bit heated,” she tells him.
“I don’t remember anything after town,” he confesses and she imagines that he was drowning his sorrows or something.

Dani had not heard about him and Sioned, but he informs her that there is nothing to know any more.

She maintains that there are a lot more fish in the sea, and he asks how she is.

She replies that she is fine, then warns him not to do that thing people do when they do not know what to say.

She suggests that he could talk about Seren; “The stories – the happy life she had – there’s more to her, than just the way she died.”

and Dani calls her ‘the best Christmas present ever’.

“And I have to say, the name Seren suited her a lot more than Carol.”

Dani reminds him that he was the one who wanted her to be called Carol.

Lleucu is at work in the deli |
In the deli, Lleucu is cleaning the counter and Jinx is on the phone by the window.

As they come in, Tom is insisting that he will buy Gaynor her lunch; “Everyone deserves a treat,” he says.
Lleucu greets them and remarks on the sunny weather, then asks if it is busy at the pharmacy. “Is it true that you used to be the headteacher?

“It’s a bit of a downgrade, working in the pharmacy.”

"Cheese on toast, Lleucu!" |
Eileen reminds her staff member that she has to make cheese on toast for a customer, so Lleucu hurries into the kitchen.

Jinx warns Gaynor not to get too close to him, adding, “I’ve just been on the phone to the hospital and they have started to take Ffion off the ventilator,

Tom fears is may have repercussions for him |
Tom, on the other hand, does not regard it as good news at all, as Jinx muses, “You don’t know what you’ve got until you almost lose someone.”

Gaynor hopes that she recovers quickly, “Isn’t that right, Tom?”
Gaynor has not yet decided what she will have and asks Lleucu to tell her about the carrot cake;

At this, Eileen immediately springs into action, pointing out that Lleucu has misunderstood and that it was fresh this morning, like every other cake there. Gaynor will simply have a cup of tea and asks Tom what he wants, but he appears engrossed in his phone.

Then he says he will have a ham and coleslaw sandwich, which Eileen will go and make, correcting Lleucu when she calls it ham and tomato.
“Concentrate, will you?” Eileen snarls, “I know you’re used to getting your own way,

“but it’s time to keep your mouth shut and respect the pecking order.

“I don’t pay you to answer back and lose customers, do you understand?”
Then the smoke alarm from the kitchen can be heard,

and Lleucu realises that it is the cheese on toast, rushing to salvage it.

Dani is helping herself again |
Dani is back to her habit of helping herself in the Deri, and also giving a pint to Mathew, commenting, “Hair of the dog!” He asks whether Kath knows that she is drinking on the job,

but Dani insists, “I’ve finished my shift – the place is sparkling.”

“Look, Dan, I’m so sorry for not coming to see you since you lost Seren – I should have been here a long time ago.

“The same with Ffion – I haven’t even been to see her in hospital.” Dani realises that this is the hangover talking.
However he continues, “No wonder my love life is in the state it’s in, if this is how I treat women.”

Dani assures him that Sioned does not know what she is missing.

His phone sounds and he mutters, “Speak of the devil! Can you come over, please? It will be to collect my stuff, probably.”

He gets up and walks towards the door, thanking Dani for the chat

Arwen is back early from school |
Arwen comes into Y Felin unexpectedly and is told by Jinx that she should be at school; “And you should be at work!” she answers, “I forgot my PE kit.”

He wants to talk to her,

but she protests, “If you’re going to go on about Ethan, I don’t want to hear it!”
On the contrary, he wanted to say that he was a bit rash this morning and sorry. “I didn’t know that he’d had it so tough.”

She reminds him that it is not nice to judge people, going on to explain, “His father is really low at the moment – so he doesn’t like spending time at home.”

Sioned laughs and informs him that she was going to ask him first, that is why she came to see him yesterday;

He takes her point and says he has already apologised for that; “So would you consider moving back in, then?”

Just along the bar from them are Gaynor, who is the person that Colin has contacted, and Tom; she tells him, “Colin wants to know the number of a tutor who used to come to the school. Kylie wants some help with a monologue.”

Then she asks how everyone is at Penrhewl;

Mathew explains that Eileen is keeping an eye on everyone while they have a drink. Tom makes a great show of buying drinks for everyone to celebrate Lili being safely back home.

Having said that, his phone sounds and he can see that it is the hospital;

he gives the good news to the four of them at the bar; three are extremely glad to hear it, while the other, not so much.

Tom asks how she is, but Jinx did not get a lot of sense out of the hospital, so he is going there now.
