Diane is worried sick

Diane is sitting in the kitchen of Bryntirion, looking extremely worried,

She hears the door open . . .

when she suddenly hears the door open,

. . . but it is only Kelly

but then is disappointed to find that it is Kelly.

"The police want to open a missing person file"

“The police want to open a missing person file,” Kelly tells her, but she already knows this.

“It just means people can keep an eye out for him,” continues Kelly,

"He's not a missing person"

but Diane is convinced that Jason is not a missing person;  he is a fit guy, a good swimmer.

"The next 48 hours are crucial"

“Yes, but fit or not, the next 48 hours are crucial.”   Diane is certain that he will have found his way somewhere by this morning.   Kelly hopes that this is the case, “But, as it stands, he’s still missing.”

"If you have nothing positive to say . . ."

“If you have nothing positive to say, I suggest you go home!” snaps Diane, but Kelly refuses to go anywhere and,

"I could do with a cup of tea, Diane"

as she takes off her coat, she suggests that she could do with a cup of tea.   Diane does not appeared to be inclined to make one.

Planning their strategy are . . .

As they sit in the deli, with a pile of ‘missing’ posters,

. . . Rhys, Mathew and DJ

Rhys points out, “Mathew is at APD, sorting out the social media, Colin’s in charge of leaflets and Siôn is going back out later, so we’ll take these around.”   DJ will also deal with the socials, describing Jason as a stupid fool.

Ffion comes in

Ffion comes in, advising that the police are going to be addressing the school assembly later.   Sioned, behind the counter, maintains that it is very odd that they cannot find him.

"Are you all right, Jinx?"

Ffion is anxious that Jinx is all right, as he was the last person to see Jason.

“Couldn’t you have heard him screaming?

"You can't have been that far away"

“You can’t have been that far away,” comments Sioned;

"Take no notice of her, Jinx"

DJ tells Jinx to ignore what Sioned said, as she is only trying to work out what has happened to Jason – just like the rest of them.

“Someone doesn’t just disappear like that,” he goes on

Jinx feels under suspicion

and Jinx imagines that they suspect him.

Diane is given some unwelcome advice

As they sit at the kitchen table, with cups of tea, Kelly says, “Look, nobody wants to say this, right, but I think we might have to face the possibility that something has happened to Jason.”

"We hold on to hope in this house"

Diane simply replies, “We hold on to hope in this house.”   Kelly appreciates that everyone does that, but Diane is adamant that she is not giving up on her son;  she would never do that.

"No-one's asking you to give up hope"

“No-one’s asking you to give up?” Kelly explains, but Diane wonders if that was what was on Jason’s mind.

"If only I could take my words back"

“After everything I said last week – if only I could take my words back,” she sighs.

"It should be on everyone's socials now"

In the deli, DJ has been tapping on his phone and informs Sioned, “Right, that’s it – Jason’s story should be on everyone’s socials now.”   Sioned thinks that Jinx knows something

"How did you get that black eye, Siôn?"

and when Siôn comes in, with Cai and Lleucu, asks him how he acquired the black eye.

Siôn says that they have come to collect some leaflets to distribute;

"It must be on your conscience as well, Cai"

“It must be on your conscience as well, sending them to a dodgy campsite,” Sioned tells Cai, “I’m not saying it’s your fault – but walkie-talkies on the blink, a dangerous course – no wonder Jason’s missing.

"The guy has some questions to answer"

“The guy you organised it with has questions to answer, if you ask me.”

"Stop it, will you?"

Cai has had enough of this and walks out, with Lleucu snarling, “Stop it, will you?”   Siôn agrees that there is no need for

"A friend of ours is missing"

Sioned to be like that, as a friend of theirs is missing.

"Says you!"

“Says you!” growls DJ and Lleucu urges Siôn to give DJ a ‘shiner’ in return.

"You did that to Siôn?"

Sioned is horrified that DJ did that to Siôn;  “Why?”

"He's far too sensitive"

Siôn suggest that he is far too sensitive,

Siôn takes some leaflets

takes some leaflets and leaves

"It smells like feet in here, anyway!"

with Lleucu, who comments that it smells like feet in the shop, anyway.

"Because we sell high-quality cheese!"

“Because we sell high-quality cheese!” Sioned is quick to point out, then turns to DJ.

"Well?"

“Well?” she demands, but DJ replies that it was nothing and limps back into the kitchen.

"I was just so angry"

Diane is still sitting opposite Kelly;  “I was just so angry that he was considering selling his home – I said things that I shouldn’t have said, considering how much he’s been through.

"What if he's . . ?"

“What if he’s . . ?   He’s tried already – what if I made him . . ?”

"They want  family member to talk to the press"

“The police want a family member to talk to the press,” says Kelly

"Will you do it, Kelly?"

and Diane asks if she will do it.

"Of course"

“Of course,” is the reply.

Jinx is delivering leaflets

Jinx delivers one of the leaflets to number 12 just as Dani approaches;

"I didn't hear you leave this morning"

“I didn’t hear you leave this morning,” she tells him.   He explains that Rhys wanted to leave early and it is a good half hour in the car to the woods.   He reports that there has still been no sign of Jason;

Kelly and Diane come round the corner

Kelly and Diane come round the corner, with Diane anxious to speak to Jinx.

"How was he the last time you saw him?"

“Kelly explained that you and Jason hadn’t fallen out, but how was he last time you saw him?”   Jinx answers that he was all right – pretty jolly to be honest,

Jinx makes up an implausible excuse

but maintains that his accountant is calling him in five minutes, so he would like to sit down and discuss it with her another day, as he wants to give Diane his full attention.

Kelly knows he is hiding something

Kelly believes that he is hiding something and the same applies to Dani.

Jinx retreats to number 9

Jinx cannot wait to get into number 9, where he picks up his laptop and looks at something.

"Meeting your accountant?"

Dani follows him in;  “What’s that about meeting your accountant?”

"I don't have any answers to give her"

“Well, she’s looking for answers and I don’t have any to give her,” says Jinx.

"So you avoided talking to Diane"

She observes that he has just avoided talking to Diane, but he maintains that he is not avoiding anyone and will talk to her again.

"Could I have some peace, please?"

Now he would like some peace.

"I'm so unfit these days"

Siôn returns home to Y Felin after delivering leaflets and is complaining, “Llanarthur is bigger than you think – but I’m so unfit these days.”

"All right, Dad?"

Lleucu can see that he was shattered by the end, then asks her father if he is all right.

“You’re not worried about what Sioned said, are you?” enquires Siôn and Lleucu describes her as having a big mouth.

"I don't want to talk about it"

Cai does not want to talk about it

"He'll be all right"

and goes upstairs.   Siôn assures Lleucu that he will be right, as he knows how to help himself these days;

Lleucu has doubts about that

she is not so sure.

"Fresh from the oven!"

Dani brings Jinx something fresh from the oven, but he says he will have one in a minute.

"OK, we need to talk!"

She pulls up the chair to face him;  “OK, we need to talk!” she insists,

"I have to get these graphics to Mathew"

but he wants to get some graphics to Mathew.

"Now, Jinx!   Tell me what's going on!"

“Now, Jinx!” she instructs him, “Tell me what’s going on!   Have you done something to Jason?   What is it, then?   You’ve done something.   Do you know what?   I’ve had years of Garry hiding stuff – you know that – and Dylan!   I’m not doing this again – I’m not!”

"Jason and I argued"

He closes the laptop with little choice but to tell her, “Jason and I argued before I left – we were just bickering – he was obviously angry about what happened between him and Kelly and he was looking for someone to blame.   It was stupid.”

"Then what happened?"

Dani wants to know what happened next and is informed, “Nothing – I’d had enough,

"I told him where to go and walked away"

“I told him where to go and then I walked away.   I didn’t see him after that.

"I didn't tell the police that"

“I didn’t tell the police about the argument, because they would have suspected me of being involved.”

"Dani, I left him there"

Dani moves to sitting next to him as he groans, “Dani, I left him there – and he may have fallen into the water – and I can’t look Diane in the eye.

"I might be more like Garry than you thought"

“So, yes, I might be more like Garry than you thought.”

"You're nothing like Garry!"

She assures him that he is nothing like Garry.

Sioned listens to Kelly's appeal on the radio . . .

At Penrhewl, Sioned is listening to Kelly's voice on the radio; “We’re very worried about him and we just want him home.   If you’re listening, Jase, please come back.   If anyone thinks they’ve seen him, or knows where he is . . .”

. . . until DJ turns it off

At this point DJ comes into the room and turns off the radio,

"I've heard that several times already"

grumbling that he has heard that several times already today and there is still no news.

"Come on – Siôn's black eye!"

She turns to another subject;  “Come on – Siôn’s black eye!”   He fills the kettle, then goes to turn it on,

"If you're refusing to be open with me now . . ."

so she continues, “If you’re refusing to be open with me now, there’s not much hope when we’ve got two children, is there?”

"He called you and Maya 'friends with benefits'!"

“He called you and Maya ‘friends with benefits’,” he replies.

"Is this always going to come between us?"

She wonders if this is always going to come between them, and why he could not simply ignore Siôn.

"He made a joke of our relationship!"

“Because he made a joke of our relationship –  I don’t have the patience for it!   We’ve got children on the way!”   Sioned urges him not to let these things get to him.   “I wish everyone would leave us alone and let us move on!”

"You're the one who needs to give us a chance"

“It sounds like you’re the one who needs to give us a chance to move on, not everyone else!” she tells him.

"What are you doing?"

Siôn is attempting to do some stretching when Lleucu come downstairs;  “I thought I’d do some exercise,” he says, but she looks at his bucket list,

"It says 'be comfortable in your own skin'"

noticing the item which reads, ‘Be comfortable in your own skin’.

He regards that as no reason for being idle;  “Or sloshing red wine every night!” she comments.

"You were making fun of me for being unfit"

He protests that she was making fun of him for being unfit, but now telling him to accept himself as he is.

"Nobody fancied opening the door, then?"

Meanwhile someone has been knocking at the door and Cai growls, “Nobody fancied opening the door, then?”

Ffion want to discuss Lleucu's transfer . . .

Siôn has now been given an idea, but before he can explain it, Ffion comes in, wanting to discuss Lleucu’s transfer to the school,

. . . but Lleucu refuses to talk to her . . .

but Lleucu does not want to talk to her and insists that she will see the deputy head (her father).

. . . and walks out

She walks out of the house.

"She hasn't softened her attitude towards me"

“I see she hasn’t softened her attitude towards me,” remarks Ffion.

"Are you sure it's all right for Ifan to stay here?"

Diane is sitting at number 7 as Kelly brings her a cup of tea;  “Are you sure it’s all right Ifan stays here again tonight?”   Kelly stresses that she should not do any more phoning around, as she needs some serious rest.

"It's the police!"

Diane’s phone sounds and she finds that it is the police.

"I'm struggling to bite my tongue with her"

“I’m struggling to bite my tongue with her,” Ffion tells Cai, “There’s so much paperwork to do, now she’s finishing her exams here.”   Cai assures her that he will go through everything with his daughter.

"She knew she would have to see me"

“I don’t understand – she knew that moving to Cwmderi and going to school would mean she would have to see me.”

"Just give her some time, Ffion"

Cai advises Ffion to give her time;  she found it very difficult with his and Nesta’s divorce, but Ffion reminds him that they are not the first couple to get divorced.

"She needs to realise how lucky she is"

“She’s very lucky – and she needs to realise that!” Ffion stresses.

Cai points out that Lleucu has feelings as well;  he wishes the two of them could just get on, especially now that her mother lives so far away.

"Do you think you can be the adult in all this?"

“Do you think you can be the adult in all this?   Otherwise I shall have no choice –

"You'll both be in front of the headmistress"

“both of you will be in front of the headmistress!”

"They can't stop looking!"

Diane’s call from the police has not been encouraging;  “They can’t stop looking – it’s still daylight!” she rages.

"The water team should be out there!"

Kelly points out that a strong current is a strong current and they are still searching the woods.   “The water team should be out there!” Diane exclaims.

“You have to trust search and rescue!” insists Kelly, “They know what they’re doing.”

"What am I going to do if he doesn't come home?"

“I can’t bear the thought of him being out there for another night!   What am I going to do if he doesn’t come home?   With Emma out in Australia, neither of my children will be with me!”

"Where's that hope from this morning gone?"

Kelly demands where the hope from this morning has gone;  “We still need that – Jason needs it.   Go home, rest up and we go again tomorrow, OK?”

Diane rushes out of the house

Diane grabs her bag and coat and dashes out through the door.

Ffion arrives back at Cysgod y Glyn

Ffion arrives home in her car at Cysgod y Glyn just as Lleucu happens to be passing and calls to her.

"All right, Ffwffs?"

Lleucu turns and asks, “All right, Ffwffs?”

"Don't call me that!"

a term which Ffion intensely dislikes.

"I think we need a chat"

“I think we need a chat,” she says, so Lleucu invites her to say something;

"No, I don't want to go to the flat"

she does not want to go to the flat and Ffion confesses, “There’s a lot of history between your mother and me – we’ve both done some stupid things, but I don’t want it to affect us.   I don’t have much family and I’m delighted that I have a niece moving here to live, a cousin for Arwen.   I know you’ve got a good relationship with your father and Siôn,

"If you want any advice"

“but you might want advice from a woman some time – and I want you to know that you’re always welcome at our house.”

Lleucu’s hostile reply is, “Thanks – you can keep your welcome – it’s your fault that I’m here in the first place, so you know what?

"I don't want your help"

“I don’t want your help when I’m on my period or if I want to discuss boys.   I’ve got a mother for that –

"She's a lot better than you!"

“who’s a lot better than you!”

Jinx is planning . . .

Jinx is comparing a map to what is on his laptop and phone

. . . when Dani returns

when Dani comes back into the house.

"I'm organising a search party"

“I’m organising a search party for tomorrow,’ he says, “We have to find him – and I have to accept that, until he comes home safe, some people will suspect me.   That’s not the important thing, obviously.”

"Sorry I thought the worst . . ."

Dani apologises for thinking the worst;

". . . you're a good man, doing this . . ."

“You’re a good man, doing this –

". . . but I want to know what's going on in here"

“but I want to know what’s going on in here,” she says, pointing to his head, “From now on, OK, please.”

"You'll be comparing me to gangsters again"

He thinks that he had better do as she says, or she will be comparing him to gangsters again;  “I know I have to talk to Diane and Kelly as well.”

"And talk to the police as well"

She adds that he must talk to the police as well.

Diane has gone to the woods

Diane has gone out to the woods where she walks slowly along a path;

"Jason, where are you, love?"

“Jason!” she sobs, “Where are you, love?

"Please come home"

“Please come home,”

She walks on

and continues walking.
