Howard rolls up his sleeping bag |
Howard is rolling up his sleeping bag in APD when Mathew comes in;
"Howard – what do you think you're doing?" |
“Howard – what do you think you’re doing?” he exclaims, “You almost gave me a heart attack – I thought someone had broken in!”
"Sorry, Math" |
Howard is very apologetic, but Mathew is actually glad that he is there; “There’s a lot to do today – I have to check the paint stock,” he begins,
Mathew spots the evidence |
but then stops when he notices the sleeping bag.
"Did you sleep here last night" |
“Did you sleep here last night?”
"I don't have anywhere to live at the moment" |
Howard points out that it is a bit awkward; “I don’t have anywhere to live at the moment –
"I've been kicked out of Deri Fawr" |
“I’ve been kicked out of Deri Fawr because it’s being sold and I need to work for a while to get some rent money.”
"You can stay with us" |
“Why didn’t you say?” demands Mathew, “You can stay with us.”
"Eileen's not going to like that" |
Howard is doubtful that Eileen would like that. “Eileen doesn’t need to know, does she?” is Mathew’s reply, “You can stay with us until you find somewhere. You can’t sleep here, can you?
"I've got a list of jobs here" |
“I’m in and out all day today – but I’ve got a list of jobs here for you.”
Howard does not like the sound of a list, but is told to give Mathew a shout if there are any questions.
The list is handed over . . . |
He is handed the list and a pen to tick off the items;
. . . and Howard is going to have a problem |
Howard looks downcast.
"Kelly tried to explain to him last night" |
Dai and Diane come into Bryntirion as Dai asks, “How do you think Ifan’s coping?” Kelly tried to explain to him last night, showing him the photo he has in his room – the one of him and Sara together.
"Do you think he'll remember her?" |
“Do you think he’ll remember her?” wonders Dai, “I expecting he will, once he sees her.”
"But what if he gets upset?" |
“But what if he gets upset? Doesn’t understand why she’s back?” asks Diane;
"He'll be fine, Diane" |
he is confident that the boy might have a shock to start with, but he will be fine.
"Kelly will be going to the gym" |
Kelly will be going to the gym while Sara is there. “I just hope she realises everything you’re doing for her,” he says, but Diane’s concern is whether Jason would be happy. “Jason would want what is best for Ifan!” Dai stresses,
"I think this is what's best for him" |
“And I think this is what is best for him.”
"And you can start today?" |
Sioned is speaking on the phone, “And you can start today? That’s fantastic news – I’ll meet you down there, shall I? See you later.”
DJ is still on the sofa |
We notice that DJ has spent the night on the sofa and is, in fact, still there.
"I think you should get your stuff together" |
Then Sioned informs him, “I think you should get your stuff together.”
"We should discuss a few things" |
He is more of the opinion that they ought to discuss a few things, but Sioned’s mind is made up;
"We discussed yesterday – we're sorting things today" |
“We discussed things yesterday – we are sorting things today.”
“I don’t mean discussing us – you made yourself clear about that yesterday.
"I'm sup[posed to be working in 'Tamed' today" |
“The work situation – I’m supposed to be working in ‘Tamed’ today,” he says.
“We’ve got to have boundaries,” Sioned informs him, “That’s why I’m sorting someone to work in ‘Tamed’!” DJ proposes that he can work on the farm in that case, but she has already thought of that; “We’re getting a farmhand in.
"I don't want us to have to see each other!" |
“I don’t want us to have to see each other just because of ‘Tamed’ or the farm!”
"We can't avoid each other completely" |
“Me neither,” sighs DJ, “But we can’t avoid each other completely, can we?” Sioned is of the opinion that they should try, at least until the twins arrive. “And what am I supposed to do, then, for work?” he demands.
“I’m sure you’ll find something,” Sioned tells him.
"Running back into her arms – you slut!" |
He reminds her that he saw her, “Running back into ‘her’ arms – you slut!”
"And I questioned if I was doing the right thing" |
Sioned smiles, “And there was I questioning if I was doing the right thing or not.” She walks out of the room.
Ffion collects the key to Deri Fawr |
Ffion comes into the Deri and tells Geraint, “Eleri’s left a key in an envelope for me.” He hands it over; when Sara hears her voice, she comes across and hugs Ffion,
"I heard you were back" |
who says, “I heard you were back – how are you? Everyone’s a bit shaken up after what happened to Jason – is that why you’re back?”
"I get to see Ifan today" |
“Yes – and I get to see Ifan today!” Sara replies.
"I'm sure he'll be glad to see you" |
Ffion is sure that he will be glad to see her and Sara would value her advice;
"Do you think they're OK?" |
“I got these books for him – do you think they’re OK – I don’t know what he likes any more.” Ffion thinks that they will be fine, and is in rather a rush, so hurries away.
DJ is carrying only one bag |
Sioned is working on the laptop when DJ comes back in, carrying one small bag;
Sioned demands his keys |
she wants his keys,
"I still think I could be a farmhand" |
but he protests, “I still think I could be a farmhand for you – we don’t have to see each other.”
"You've got no self-respect, have you?" |
You’ve got no self-respect, have you? It’s pathetic,” she sneers.
"How do you expect me to contribute financially?" |
“How do you expect me to contribute financially towards the twins when I don’t have a job?” he argues, as Eileen comes into the room. Sioned replies that he has a couple of months to find a job.
When DJ appeals to Eileen, pointing out that he is a good farmhand and they need the help, Sioned warns him not to try and get her support.
"Sioned and the twins come first!" |
Eileen immediately answers, “Sioned and the twins come first!”
He slams down the keys |
DJ now knows exactly where he stands, slams down the keys on the table and walks out of the house.
Howard painstakingly spells out the word . . . |
As he is unable to read, Howard is having considerable difficulty deciphering Mathew’s list;
. . . 'cement' |
he attempts to spell out the letters of the word ‘cement’, and triumphantly exclaims, “Cement!” just as Mathew comes in.
"Can I have a word with you?" |
“If you’re only on cement, you’re going to be here all night!” he predicts; Howard would like to have a word with him about something,
DJ arrives |
but this is interrupted by the arrival of DJ, who is looking for a job.
"Everyone knows!" |
Mathew heard about what happened yesterday; “Everyone knows!” DJ points out that Sioned has thrown him out and he is homeless.
"Could I stay in the flat for a while?" |
He wonders if he could stay in the shop flat for a while. Mathew replies that unfortunately they have no room at the moment, but suggests that he could ask Dai and Diane.
"What about work?" |
“What about work – does the offer of work still stand?” begs DJ and is told that there is plenty of that;
"You can start next week" |
he can start next week, to give him a chance to sort out everything first.
"As I was saying, Math . . ." |
DJ leaves and Howard is about to explain his problem when Ffion appears;
"Can you price some work at Deri Fawr?" |
“Do you have time to price some work for me at Deri Fawr, after school today?” she asks.
"Has the sale gone through already?" |
Mathew wants to know whether the sale has gone through, but she says she has been given a key by Eleri.
He is obviously strongly attracted to Ffion — and who can blame him? |
Mathew cannot resist the opportunity, but says that he will check his diary and text her later.
Mathew cannot resist the temptation |
With a flash of her ‘come hither’ look, she also leaves.
He makes up an excuse |
Mathew then manufactures the excuse that he has to go and finish Mrs Vaughan’s wall and dashes off,
"Right you are, mate" |
leaving Howard with his problem, although he maintains they will definitely talk about it later.
He chases after Ffion like a randy schoolboy |
Mathew enthusiastically chases after Ffion,
"I don't want anyone to suspect" |
who cautions him, “Don’t talk to me until we get to Deri Fawr – I don’t want anyone to suspect anything.”
Ffion almost has to fight him off |
Mathew on the other hand, appears to be ready to throw caution to the winds;
"I'll see you up there!" |
he is eager to see her up there.
"Pint, please, Geraint" |
Dai comes into the Deri and asks Geraint for a pint; then he meets Sara, who is just leaving; “Hey – cool head, now!” he urges her, “Everything will be fine, OK?”
"I hope he remembers me" |
Sara is anxious that Ifan will not remember her, however Dai is confident that he will;
"A chance to get to know each other again" |
“But if he doesn’t, it will be a chance for you to get to know each other again.
"He loves those books" |
He loves those books,” Dai continues, pointing to the volume in her hand, “You’ll have ‘Brownie Points’ from the start – guaranteed.”
"Eleri left the keys for Deri Fawr" |
Then Rhys comes to the bar; “Eleri left the keys for Deri Fawr for me,” he tells Geraint, but is told that Ffion has already collected them. “She can’t go there without someone from Tomos ac Ellis!” Rhys moans, “She doesn’t even own the place yet!”
"Thanks for letting me come, Diane" |
Sara arrives at number 7 for the meeting with Ifan; she thanks Diane for letting her come.
"At least you're not late" |
“At least you’re not late,” remarks Diane, “He’s upstairs – he’s very tired after school.”
"I won't stay very long" |
Sara promises not to stay very long
She prepares to meet her son |
and follows Diane upstairs.
"Hello – Ffion?" |
Rhys arrives at Deri Fawr and calls for Ffion, who comes downstairs; he demands what is going on.
"I'm measuring a few things in the bedroom" |
“I was just measuring a few things in the bedroom,” is Ffion’s answer.
“You shouldn’t be here without someone from Tomos ac Ellis!” he stresses
"Eleri said it was fine" |
and is told that Eleri said it was fine, which he regards as totally unprofessional. Ffion recommends that he should talk to Eleri about that.
“How long will you be?’ he asks, and she anticipates she will probably be another half hour or so.
"I want nothing to do with this!" |
“Make sure you give the keys back to Eleri, then – I want nothing to do with this if things go wrong!” grumbles Rhys.
"You can come down now" |
As soon as he marches out of the house, Ffion calls upstairs, “You can come down now,” and Mathew appears, still adjusting his T-shirt
"That was too close!" |
and complaining that was too close.
"Aren't you enjoying it?" |
“What’s the matter? Aren’t you enjoying it?” enquires Ffion.
“Of course I am – I just feel guilty about Rhys,” he says, but Ffion insists that Rhys does not have to know – and neither does anyone else – as the two of them understand each other – it is their little arrangement.
"Oh – the APD van!" |
She suddenly realises that Rhys must have seen the APD van, but Mathew reassures her that he parked it around the back.
"I didn't know you could be so sly!" |
“Well, I didn’t know you could be so sly!” she exclaims.
"There's a lot you don't know – yet" |
He maintains that there is a lot she does not know about him – yet.
"You could have come here last night" |
As Dai walks into Bryntirion, he tells DJ, “You could have had the key to come here at last night – sorry you can’t come to the bungalow,
"You'll get some peace here" |
“but, with Jason missing and little Ifan coming and going . . . but there we are, you’ll get some peace here.”
He informs DJ that there is no more news about Jason,
"You'll be back together before the weekend" |
then adds, “You and Sioned will probably be back together before the weekend.” DJ cannot see that happening this time, but Dai describes a relationship as, “On and off again all the time!”
"She's sacked me now" |
“She’s sacked me now, as well – both from the farm and ‘Tamed’,” which Dai does not think is a good sign,
"She'll come round" |
but is still insistent that she will ‘come round’.
“She’ll realise that she can’t look after two of them without the help of a father.”
"She wants to close the joint account" |
DJ’s phone sounds and he finds a text from her; “She seems very determined to me – she wants to close the joint account as well –
Dai regards that as a bad sign |
“it sounds like the end of a relationship to me!”
"He's fast asleep" |
Sara comes back downstairs after the meeting with Ifan, reporting that he is fast asleep as it has been a big day for him.
It's been a big day for all of us" |
Diane comments that it has been a big day for them all. Sara thanks her; “It’s been so lovely to spend time with him.”
Diane enquires if she has kept up to date with the Makaton sign language they use,
"I can teach you the basics if you want" |
and Sara is willing to teach her the basics, if she wants – but they can do that another time. “Right, I think my time’s up, isn’t it? I hope I can see him again – the same arrangements, of course.”
"I'll discuss it with Kelly" |
Diane replies that she will discuss it with Kelly
"It means a lot to me, Diane" |
and Sara leaves the house, remarking that it means a lot to her.
"There's not much money there" |
“At least, she’s left you half the money in the account,” Dai points out, but is told there was not much money in there.
"She's being dramatic" |
“She’s being dramatic – pretending the relationship’s over, to make you panic,” Dai predicts, “Right, there isn’t much food here,”
"I don't feel like shopping" |
but DJ does not feel like going out shopping and, as he is not working, he cannot afford a lot.
"Here, get a takeaway tonight" |
Dai gets out his wallet and hands over a £10 note; “Crikey Moses! you’re being dramatic now – here, get a takeaway tonight and I’ll put £50 in your account tomorrow. Then we’ll go shopping together –
"We'll find you a job" |
“and we’ll find you a job. You’re going to be OK –
"But not a word to Diane!" |
“but not a word to Diane that you’re staying here – or I’ll be sleeping here with you!”
Off goes Dai |
He gives DJ the house keys.
"It will need a lot of work at Deri Fawr" |
In the shop flat, Howard imagines that Deri Fawr will need a lot of work to get it to Ffion’s taste – and that will cost. Mathew agrees, “There’s a lot to do there,” which Rhys regards as good news for him, if she gives APD the work.
"I'm going out – if that's all right with you" |
Rhys is now going out, “If that’s all right with you,” he adds.
"About earlier, Math . . ." |
Finally Howard gets a chance to explain to Mathew what he wanted to talk about;
"Did you finish that list?" |
Mathew asks if he finished the list that he was given. “Yes, just about – the thing is, I feel like I take longer to do some things – because . . .”
"Your'e just getting used to the job" |
Mathew appreciates that he is getting used to the job;
"The thing is – I can't read" |
“Yes, but the thing is – well – I can’t read.” This comes as quite a shock to Mathew, and Howard continues, “I’ve been having lessons from Cassie.”
"So when I gave you a list . . ." |
Mathew realises, “So when I gave you a list . . .”
"I said the letters, one by one" |
Howard is pleased that he got through it by saying the letters one by one, like Cassie does with him.
"It's all right when things are in Welsh" |
“It’s all right when things are in Welsh – I’m getting used to that.” Mathew had no idea and is sorry – from now on he will try and not to give a list. Howard protests, “No, I want to learn, I want to practice – “
"I don't want to lose my job" |
“it’s just that I don’t want you to lose the plot – or for me to lose my job because I’m slow.”
"I'll try and keep things in Welsh" |
Mathew promises that he will never do that and thanks him for sharing; “From now on, I’ll try to keep things more simple – and in Welsh.”
"Why does 'cement' start with a 'C'?" |
“There was one more thing I wanted to ask you – why does ‘cement’ start with a ‘C’?” Mathew explains that is what English is like.
"I've been looking forward to this pint" |
In the Deri, Dai hands over his credit card to Geraint and says that he has been looking forward to this pint. Diane is deep in thought;
"Aren't you going to ask how it went?" |
“Aren’t you going to ask me how it went with Ifan?”
"I wanted to settle down first" |
He replies that he just wanted to settle down and get comfortable first.
"Ifan seemed pretty comfortable" |
“She brought some book with her – but I have to admit Ifan seemed pretty comfortable in her company – she’d even learned more Makaton,”
"That's a good thing, isn't it?" |
which Dai thinks is a good thing.
"I'm going to lose him as well, aren't I?" |
“I’m going to lose him as well, aren’t I?” she goes on.
Rhys passes the alley . . . |
Rhys happens to be passing the alley
. . . and notices Mathew leaving the flat |
when he sees Mathew emerge from the shop flat and disappear around the corner.
Rhys investigates . . . |
He goes to investigate
. . .and sees Ffion waiting for him . . . |
and in the distance can see that Ffion is waiting for him;
. . . then they kiss . . . |
they embrace and kiss.
. . . which causes Rhys some concern |
As they go into Cysgod y Glyn, Rhys is very concerned.
Sara enters a house . . . |
Sara lets herself into an unfamiliar house;
. . . and calls upstairs . . . |
she calls upstairs, “Hello – are you here?” A voice replies that they are upstairs, so she goes to join them.
. . . where a man is sitting by a baby's cot |
A man, who is apparently named David, is sitting by a baby’s cot and tells her to be quiet, then asks how it went
"It was good, really good" |
“Good, really good,” she answers, “Ifan was great.”
She shows him a photo |
She shows a photo on her phone.
"I hope Math gets to meet his big brother soon" |
“I hope Math gets to meet his big brother soon – I know he’s going to love him so much.”
