Jinx has breakfast in bed for Dani . . . |
Jinx has prepared breakfast in bed for Dani, but as he is about to take it upstairs,
. . . but she is already up |
she comes down, fully dressed. She says that she does not want to take advantage of Mark,
"Seren will be at school by now" |
but he points out that Seren will be in school by now and Mark had said that there was no rush to pick up Gabriel.
“I’ve got things to do, right?” she adds and he gets the impression that something is wrong.
"Last night was lovely" |
“I’m fine!” she exclaims, “Listen, last night was lovely – thank you. I’ll see you later,”
Off she goes . . . |
and she leaves the house,
. . . leaving Jinx bewildered |
with Jinx left holding the tray and looking puzzled.
At Llwyncelyn, Hywel has just made himself a cup of coffee when Gaynor announces that she has organised a surprise for him and Esther after school today.
"I've got a planning meeting with the council" |
“I’ve got a planning meeting with the council,” he protests,
"You can miss one meeting, Hywel" |
but she argues that he can miss one meeting to spend time with his daughter.
"Tenpin bowling – she'll love it!" |
“Please, Hywel – cinema, tenpin bowling – she’ll love it!”
"Why are you doing this?" |
He enquires why she is doing this and she confesses,
"Tom is coming over later" |
“Well, Tom is coming over later and I’d like to have the house to myself.”
He thought that there was an ulterior motive; “To have the house to yourself and Tom, you mean. All right, I’ll take her out, so you two can have some peace.”
"Can you clear your stuff out of the way?" |
Gaynor is appreciative of his consideration and asks if he can clear his stuff out of the way; “I want the place to look tidy.”
"Oh – you haven't told him, have you?" |
“Oh, I understand now,” he smiles, “You haven’t told him that you still live with your ex, have you?” She answers that there is not much point,
"Well, you're moving out next week" |
as he is moving out next week. “I hope he enjoys a beef Wellington like I used to,” Hywel comments.
"He's obsessed with this, isn't he?" |
Kelly is at Bryntirion, collecting more of Ifan’s things; “He’s obsessed with this, isn’t he? And with these – we played with these for hours.”
"Jason gave them all names" |
Diane recalls that Jason gave them all names and Ifan loved the names.
“And Jason gave them all sounds as well – the beeping was relentless!, continues Kelly,
"Hey, Diane, we'll get through this" |
“Hey, we’ll get through this.”
Diane dreads sorting through Jason's things |
Diane thinks otherwise; “I don’t know how I’m going to start sorting through Jason’s things.”
"Concentrate on one job at a time" |
Kelly advises her to concentrate on one job at a time.
"You don't need to worry" |
When Lleucu comes to the school, her father asks if she is all right; “You don’t need to worry – you’ll be great!”
Lleucu tries to ignore Ffion |
Then they are approached by the head teacher; Cai says that he was going to show Lleucu where the year 11 meetings are
"What subject does she want to see first?" |
and Ffion enquires which subject she wants to see first,
"Physical Education" |
but Lleucu will not reply.
Her father says that it is Physical Education; “Right, you can come with me, then,” Ffion tells her, “I’m taking that session in Mrs Rees’ absence.”
Lleucu is not enthusiastic |
Lleucu is obviously not looking forward to that.
Colin is about to clean the paste brush |
In the MFC flat, Colin tells Britt that she is a dangerous woman with that paste brush; “Give it to me, now, pronto!” They both seem to be in high spirits as he proposes showing her how Cardiganshire painters and decorators clean their brushes and rollers.
"Col – come here!" |
she finds a message on her phone; “Col!” she exclaims, “Social Services have e-mailed.”
"What do they say?" |
He anxiously demands what they say and she replies, “The panel is unanimous –
"That means all of them, doesn't it?" |
“that means all of them, doesn’t it? – aah – we’re allowed to foster!
"Kylie can come back to live with us!" |
“And Kylie can come back to live with us!”
They are very jubilant |
They hug each other in a state of euphoria.
Ffion addresses the assembled students |
Ffion addresses the students; “I know some of you are under a lot of pressure at the moment, revising and doing your GCSEs, but I’m so pleased to see that so many of you want to come back to the sixth form in September.
"This is such an exciting time" |
“This is such an exciting time in your lives – a time of change – a challenging time, when you have to take responsibility for your attitude and behaviour without having to rely too much on teachers to make things easier for you.”
She looks like a trouble-maker |
Lleucu already looks as if she is going to cause trouble,
"Punctuality, Respect, Discipline" |
as Ffion reminds them of the school motto; “Punctuality, Respect, Discipline.”
"Catchy!" |
Lleucu mutters, “Catchy!”
"Can you think of a better motto?" |
and is invited to think of a better motto.
"Not some patronising speech!" |
“I don’t know, but ‘Punctuality, Respect, Discipline’ isn’t even alliteration. Anyway, I thought this was supposed to be a session on PE, not some patronising speech about how to behave.”
"Perhaps I should call your father?" |
Ffion wonders if she has anything else to say, “Or perhaps I should call your father?
"It's easy to be cheeky to Auntie Ffion!" |
“It’s easy to be cheeky to Auntie Ffion, the head teacher, when Dadi is the deputy!”
Lleucu rapidly vacates the room . . . |
Lleucu has had enough of this and storms out of the room,
. . . and Ffion continues |
so Ffion continues with the session.
"I think I've got everything" |
Kelly comes downstairs with a bag and hopes that she has collected everything; “I can’t help feeling that I’ve forgotten something. Thanks for your help, Diane –
"I wouldn't have been able to cope without you" |
“I don’t think I would have been able to cope without you today.
Diane gives something to Kelly |
Diane unzips her handbag and presents Kelly with a small black box
A bracelet, engraved 'mam' |
containing a bracelet engraved with the word ‘mam’.
"From one mother to another" |
“Jason gave it to me years ago for Mother’s Day – it’s not an expensive one, but I wanted to give you something that meant something to me – from one mother to another.”
"But I'm not his mother, Diane" |
Tears come to Kelly’s eyes, as she reminds Diane that she is not Ifan’s mother.
"You are, Kelly!" |
“You are, Kelly!” Diane emphatically states,
"Dai will be waiting for his dinner" |
“Right, Dai will be waiting for his dinner.”
Sara appears . . . |
There is a knock at the front door and Kelly is surprised to find that it is Sara;
. . . much to Diane's displeasure |
Diane is far from pleased to see her.
"Sorry for turning up without warning" |
“Sorry for turning up without warning,” says Sara, “I didn’t know what kind of welcome I’d get.”
A rather chilly welcome, by the look of it |
Diane looks at her but does not say a word,
"I didn't think twice, I just . . ." |
so Sara continues, “I haven’t slept in days – when I saw the news about Jason on the Internet I didn’t think twice, I just . . .”
"Jumped on the first flight from Sydney?" |
Diane completes her sentence, “Jumped on the first flight from Sydney? Always been impulsive, haven’t you?”
"I wanted to be here" |
Sara maintains that she was not sure if she was doing the right thing, coming back after all this time; “But I felt in my heart that I wanted to be here – and help in whatever way I can.”
"Yeah, right!" |
Diane does not appear to believe a word of this.
“How is Ifan? Where is he?” Sara asks and Kelly informs her that he is at school;
"Dai's picking him up today" |
Diane adds that Dai is picking him up today.
Are these merely 'crocodile tears'? |
Sara dissolves into tears, which Diane regards as fabricated.
'I can't stay here, Dad!" |
Lleucu is still in a terrible mood at Y Felin when her father comes into the house and finds her packing her bag; “I can’t stay here, Dad!” she snarls,
"Ffion and I hate each other!" |
“Ffion and I hate each other – and that’s never going to change! That's why I was dreading going to that school! She’s going to make my life hell on earth!”
"She doesn't hate you, Lleucu" |
Cai tries to point out that Ffion does not hate her, but to no avail.
"It's her fault you and Mam broke up!" |
“Yes, she does – and I hate her!” is the reply, “It’s her fault that you and Mam broke up.
"Things were more complicated than that" |
Cai informs her that things were more complicated than that, but Lleucu is convinced that Ffion seduced him. “It was my decision to leave,” her father stresses,
"We hadn't been happy for a while" |
“Your mother and I had not been happy for a while.”
"You wouldn't have tried to . . ." |
“But if it wasn’t for Ffion, you wouldn’t have moved here,” Lleucu goes on, “And you wouldn’t have suffered from depression – or tried to . . . It was Ffion’s fault I almost lost you twice,”
"Ffion has helped me get to where I am now" |
He maintains that the depression would have found him, wherever he was, but he is there now and that is partly thanks to Ffion. “She looked after me in the dark times – and she’s helped me get to where I am now.
"Please, don't be so hard on her" |
“I don’t expect you to be best friends, but, please, don’t be so hard on her.”
"Not a day passes . . ." |
Sara says, “I just want you to know that not a day passes when I don’t think about Ifan. The only comfort I had was that leaving him here was the best thing for him – to keep him safe.”
"Why did you stop FaceTiming?" |
Diane reminds her, “When you left, you promised to FaceTime him every night – why did you stop?”
"It broke my heart" |
Sara replies that it broke her heart; she felt guilty and did not want to confuse him.
“How are you coping?” she asks.
"Now that the police are scaling back the investigation" |
Diane sneers, “How do you think, Sara? Especially now that the police have decided to scale back the investigation.” Kelly wonders if Sara has heard about the ‘snood’
"It doesn't[tlook likely that he'll be coming back" |
and points out that it does not look likely that Jason will be coming back.
Gaynor hides something in a cupboard |
Gaynor is still trying to tidy up the place when a knock comes at the door and she hurries to answer it;
Tom arrives |
Tom has brought her flowers and a bottle. She welcomes him to her home,
"What a nice, bright house" |
he describes as a nice, bright house, then discovers that the bottle is Rioja Gran Reserva
"Someone knows their wine" |
remarks that someone knows their wine.
"Special company calls for a special bottle" |
“Special company calls for a special bottle,” he comments.
Ffion is going onto Cysgod y Glyn . . . |
As Ffion is about to go into Cysgod y Glyn,
. . . when Lleucu arrives in apologetic mood |
Lleucu calls to her; “I’ve had a chat with Dad – I just wanted to . . .”
"I hope he's received the e-mail" |
However, Ffion interrupts, hoping that her father has received the e-mail,
"Your behaviour was unacceptable and disrespectful" |
“Letting him know, as a parent, that his child’s behaviour in school today was unacceptable and disrespectful. A copy has also been sent to your mother, by the way – protocol. The deputy’s daughter doesn’t get special treatment!”
"I'm sure the governors would like to hear about this" |
Lleucu hits back; “But you singled me out – are you supposed to talk to the pupils like that? I’m sure the governors would like to hear about this – isn’t that the ‘protocol’?”
"You're just like your mother!" |
Now Ffion is really angry; “You would, as well, wouldn’t you? You’re just like your mother, making a fuss – no wonder Cai couldn’t live with her!” She goes into the house, slamming the door behind her;
This has done nothing to endear her to Lleucu |
Lleucu now hates her even more.
"Perhaps we could take her to see her grandmother" |
Colin and Britt come round the corner towards the MFC flat; “I’m so excited to see her face!” says Britt, “Perhaps we could take her to see her grandmother in the care home, once she’s settled in, of course.”
"Have you heard the news?" |
Dani comes hurrying behind them; “Where have you been? I’ve been trying to phone you. Have you heard the news?”
"What – about Kylie?" |
They presume that she is talking about Kylie,
"Can we go up to the flat?" |
but she says it is not that and suggests they go up to the flat.
"Hey, Dan!" |
Just as Dani is going into the door, Jinx calls to her,
She waves and goes inside |
but she simply waves to him.
"Are you sure the meat tasted all right?" |
After their meal, Gaynor is anxious that the meat tasted all right;
"It was wonderful, Gaynor" |
Tom describes it as ‘wonderful’.
The romantic evening is shattered |
There is a sound of the front door opening as Hywel and Esther come back early.
"Hywel and Esther, I presume" |
Tom assumes that this is Hywel and Esther, as Gaynor has spoken about them, and says it is lovely to meet them at last.
Hywel apologises that they were not supposed to come back so early, but Esther was not feeling great and now wants to go to bed.
"I'll go up to my room, Gaynor" |
Hywel says that he will go to his room as well.
"I can explain. Tom" |
Gaynor tells Tom that she can explain, but that he thinks he had better go;
"Thanks for a 'memorable' time" |
“Thanks for a memorable time.” As he is on his way out, Gaynor points out that this is her house
"He's moving out next week" |
and Hywel is moving out next week.
"Hope the little one os feeling better" |
He simply hopes that the little one is feeling better soon
"Goodbye, Gaynor" |
and wishes her goodbye.
"One night, Hywel – that's all I wanted!" |
She angrily shouts upstairs, “One night, Hywel – that’s all I wanted!”
Jinx is sitting , alone |
Jinx is sitting glumly at the table when Dani returns; she thought that he was going to the Deri tonight, but he changed his mind. She intends to start on dinner before picking up the children.
"Dani, what's going on" |
He demands, “Dani, what’s going on? You been acting distant and strange all day – is it something to do with last night? I had something important to tell you last night – why did you stop me?
"I love you – that was it" |
“I love you – that was it – I wanted you to know –
"I don't care if you don't feel the same way" |
“and I don’t care if you don’t feel the same way.”
"Gwern's coming home in a month!" |
“Gwern’s coming home in a month!” Dani announces, which causes Jinx some dismay.
"Why don't I feel like celebrating?" |
In the MFC flat Britt says, rather unconvinced, “It’s good news, isn’t it? So why don’t I feel like celebrating?”
"We have another big change ahead of us" |
Colin says that it is because she has had a bit of a shock – and they have another big change ahead of them.
She admits she had forgotten for a moment about Kylie;
"Kyle is our priority now" |
“Exactly – that’s what worries me, because we need to concentrate on her now don’t we? She is our priority – you do understand that, don’t you?” stresses Colin.
"Why didn't you tell me?" |
Jinx demands why Dani did not tell him;
"I only found out last night" |
her excuse is that she only found out last night.
"You've already discussed it with Britt and Colin" |
“You’ve already discussed it with Britt and Colin in the flat!”
"Gwern kind of tried to kill you" |
Dani admits that she was scared how he would react; “Because Gwern kind of tried to kill you!”
"I don't need to be reminded of that" |
He does not need to be reminded of that.
"He might be worse now" |
“You know how horrible he was before he went away – who’s to say he’ll be better now – he might be worse!”
"We'll face it together, Dan" |
Jinx assures her that they will face it together and he is sorry for getting angry; “Where will he go? To Britt and Colin?”
"I was hoping he could live here" |
Dani had hoped that if Jinx were willing, he could live there; “He doesn’t have anywhere else to go. Kylie’s moving back in with Britt and Colin – and as I was the one who put him into that unit . . .”
"And you decided this on your own?" |
“And you decided this on your own,” complains Jinx, “You didn’t think of discussing it with me first?” Dani promises him that, as this is his house, if he is not comfortable, she understands.
"I'll find somewhere else for me and the kids" |
She will find somewhere else for herself and the children.
"I'm here for you and the kids, OK?" |
Jinx is adamant, “I’m here for you and the kids, OK? And this is your home. If you’re determined to take Gwern under your wing, this will be his home as well.”
"Thanks, Jinx" |
Danny is very grateful to him
Sara looks at Ifan's pictures . . . |
Sara is looking through some of Ifan’s artwork and thanks Diane,
. . . while Diane does not look any more friendly |
who is not looking any more friendly. Sara picks up her bag and does not know what to say;
"I know I haven't been part of his life" |
“I know I haven’t been a part of Ifan’s life for a while and I don’t expect to resume the relationship as if nothing’s happened.”
Diane is glad that they agree on that, anyway.
"I'm not here to cause trouble" |
“I promise you, I’m not here to cause trouble – I’m here to help, if you want me to.
"I'm staying at an AirBnB" |
“I’m staying in an AirBnB in the village, thanks to Rhys, and this is my phone number.”
Diane still remains silent |
Neither Diane nor Kelly say anything, but Sara maintains that she really is sorry about everything and leaves the house.
"Do you believe her?" |
“Do you believe her?” asks Kelly.
“I don’t believe a word she says,” is Diane’s considered reply, “But whatever plan that cow’s got up her sleeve, we’ll be ready for it!
"I may have lost Jason, but I'm not losing Ifan!" |
“I may have lost Jason, but I’m not losing Ifan!”
