Look who is coming round the corner |
As Lleucu walks past MFC, a cyclist appears around the corner – none other than Siôn White;
"What do you think of my bike?" |
he stops alongside her and asks what she thinks of his steed. She advises that the saddle should be higher and adjusts it for him.
"You need to be bending right down" |
“You need to be bending right down,” she instructs, but he points out that he is not as young as he used to be. “Don’t be silly – you’ll be faster now – try it!” she urges,
"Off you go – you'll be great!" |
“Off you go – you’ll be great!”
"You'll be great!" |
Arwen and a couple of her friends have just come into view; Arwen sarcastically laughs, “You’ll be great!” and Lleucu walks away.
Kelly is hard at work |
At number 7, Kelly is busily preparing some food when there is a knock at the door. “All right, I’m coming!” she shouts
Her visitor is Sara, with a bottle |
and finds that it is Sara, who is carrying a bottle of Malbec. “Ifan’s not here – he’s got a swimming lesson after school,” Kelly informs her.
“I know – I wouldn’t call without arranging it first – I’ve brought this for you and Ieuan.” Kelly points out that he is not there either,
"As you can see, I'm in the middle of it" |
and as Sara can see, she is right in the middle of it.
"I'll put the bottle here" |
Sara leaves the bottle on the kitchen table
"Thank you for persuading Diane" |
and explains, “I just wanted to say thank you for persuading Diane to let me see Ifan.”
"Hello, Diane" |
phone sounds; she finds that it is Diane, who reports that there has been a possible sighting of Jason on CCTV
"I have to go!" |
and Kelly has to go immediately,
"Where did I put my keys?" |
but she cannot find her keys.
"I can send someone to collect it" |
At APD, Mathew is on the phone; “Well, if it’s easier, I can send it someone up to collect it,” he says, then asks Howard, “You know that job we did in Cefneithin? [A village NW of Cross Hands] The bloke up there wants someone to go and collect the payment – he doesn’t trust computers.”
"I'll go when I've finished this" |
Howard will go after he has finished what he is doing;
Mathew asks DJ if he has any plans for this evening – if not they could go out somewhere. “The three of us – to Swansea? We need something to lift our spirits.”
"Will there be women there?" |
Howard immediately enquires, “Will there be women there? Will they be pretty?”
"I'm not quite ready to go out 'on the pull'!" |
DJ does not consider that he is quite ready yet to go back out ‘on the pull’.
"Something to take your mind off . . ." |
Mathew proposes, “We’ll find a bar, have a few laughs – something to take your mind off of the fact that . . .”
". . . being dumped" |
DJ completes the sentence for him, “That I’ve been dumped by the woman who’s carrying my babies?”
"I'll go and get that cheque" |
Howard is still very anxious to ascertain whether there will be women there, and is told to calm down. Now he will go and collect the cheque from that bloke.
"Should we ask Griffiths?" |
“Listen if this is a works do – should we ask Griffiths?” wonders DJ,
"We'll say it was a last-minute thing" |
but Mathew suggests they could tell him it was a last-minute thing. Just as DJ is leaving, Ffion comes in, full of smiles.
"How can I help you, Mrs Llywelyn?" |
“How can I help you, Miss Llywelyn?” says Mathew
She wants a 'repeat performance' |
and she wants to know what he is doing tonight.
"I've made plans to go out with the boys" |
“I’ve just made plans to go out with the boys,” he replies, which makes her very disappointed – she wants him to cancel, but he regrets that he cannot.
"Well, now will have to do, won't it?" |
“Well, now will have to do, won’t it?” she demands,
She closes his laptop |
closing his laptop for him.
A full-scale search for the keys . . . |
Both Kelly and Sara are searching high and low for the keys; Kelly cannot remember where she left them.
. . . which Sara finds |
Suddenly Sara locates them, and tells Kelly to go;
"I'll tidy up and then lock the door" |
she will tidy up and then lock the house.
"Don't forget to turn off the oven" |
She is reminded to turn off the oven.
Arwen has called in at MFC |
Arwen arrives home at Cysgod y Glyn with some food she has collected from MFC;
"I was about to boil some pasta" |
“Well, thanks for letting me know – I was just about to boil some pasta,” her mother moans.
"I thought you'd be too busy with the packing" |
“I thought you’d be too busy with all the packing you have to do,” Arwen answers.
"I saw you making fun of Lleucu" |
Ffion wants a word with her daughter; “I saw you earlier making fun of Lleucu – don’t you think she deserves some support from her cousin? She was very good to you while we were in North Wales.”
"She's total weirdo . . ." |
“Lleucu’s a total weirdo –
". . . and she talks like a turkey!" |
“and she talks like a turkey!” is Arwen’s evaluation.
"She talks exactly like me!" |
Ffion is quick to point out that Lleucu talks exactly like her and Arwen continues that they have nothing in common; “She’d rather be friends with Grandad than someone her own age.”
Ffion suggests, “Perhaps she’d make friends if you made an effort to include her.”
"I've got homework to do" |
Arwen groans that she has homework to do, but her mother insists that she is not going anywhere; “I’m fed up with you thinking you can do what you like!
"You're coming with me to apologise!" |
“You’re coming with me to apologise to Lleucu – and that’s the end of it!”
Lleucu arrives at Y Felin . . . |
Lleucu returns to Y Felin where she sees a packet of tablets on the table;
. . . and investigates some tablets |
as she is looking at them, the father comes downstairs. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to be nosy,” she tells him.
"I forgot to take them this morning" |
He advises that he tries to remember to take them at same time every day, but he forgot this morning. She wonders if he is sure that he still needs to take them;
"You're much better now, aren't you?" |
“I know you’ve been ill in the past – but you’re much better now aren’t you?”
"It's not quite as easy as that" |
He explains that it is not quite as easy as that; the tablets help to stop him going back to . . . “Back to feeling like I don’t want to be here any more.
"It's all right if you want to talk about it" |
“Look, it’s all right if you want to talk to me about it,” he tells her, but she maintains that it is his business.
"I don't want to know" |
“I don’t want to know – I’m sorry I raised it,” she blurts out and escapes upstairs.
Howard has a great bundle of cash |
Howard returns to APD with a green plastic bag, stuffed with various bundles of cash;
"Jason said he could pay in cash" |
“The money from the Cefneithin job – the bloke said that Jason told him he could pay in cash.”
"Who wants a couple in the Deri tonight?" |
At that moment Rhys comes in; “Who wants a couple in the Deri tonight?” he says, but it is pointed out that they are going to Swansea.
“On the pull!” adds Howard,
"You could do with my expertise" |
so Rhys will come with them, as he reckons they could do with his expertise – apart from Mathew, who he describes as ‘a bit of a dark horse’.
"I shouldn't go anywhere with all this cash!" |
“I shouldn’t go anywhere with all this cash!” Mathew anxiously replies, and it is explained that it was an old bloke who does not trust computers. Now the banks are closed,
"Just put it in the safe!" |
so Rhys tells him to put it in the safe, as they have CCTV.
Howard is adamant that Mathew must go to Swansea; “You’re the one who knows where all the women are!” Mathew is persuaded and will put the money in the safe.
Sara has one of Ifan's toys |
Sara is looking at one of Ifan’s toys when Kelly returns to the house, which is now looking much tidier. She sadly reports that it was not Jason,
"Oh, are you still here?" |
and is very surprised that Sara is still there.
"I thought you could do with a bit of help" |
“Sorry, I thought that you could do with a bit of help –
"The food is in the freezer" |
“the clothes are there and the batch cook is in the freezer.”
Sara is about to go |
Kelly is grateful and, as Sara is about to leave,
"Diane is absolutely heartbroken" |
sighs, “It didn’t look anything like him on the CCTV! Diane’s absolutely heartbroken.”
Rhys makes fun of Howard's clothes |
Rhys rushes into the Deri, where the other three have assembled, prior to their trip to Swansea; he makes fun of Howard’s choice of clothes. They ask Geraint for two more pints and four shots of vodka.
"Big night, is it, boys?" |
Just then Griffiths appears; “Big night, is it, boys?” he asks and is told that they are going to Swansea.
"Howard's even ironed his jeans" |
It is emphasised that Howard has even ironed his jeans.
"I'll come with you!" |
“A ‘sesh’ in Swansea – I haven’t done that for ages,” Griffiths recalls, “I’ll come with you!”
"It's not your kind of evening" |
This is not welcomed by the others and Mathew tries to dissuade him, stressing that they will be talking about beer and women; it is not his kind of evening.
“I’m used to travelling on the banter bus, boys,” he assures them
Ieuan starts drinking |
picks up one of the shorts, to get himself into the mood.
"Arwen has something to say – haven't you?" |
Ffion has marched Arwen to Y Felin and announces to Lleucu, “Arwen has got something to say to you – haven’t you, Arwen?”
“Sorry for making fun of you earlier,” she says, not particularly sincerely
"It didn't bother me" |
and Lleucu replies that it did not bother her.
"And I want to invite you to the cinema" |
Then, prompted by her mother, Arwen goes on, “And I wanted to invite you to come to the cinema with me and my friends on Saturday.”
Lleucu’s answer is that she will be washing her hair, but she is sure they will have a great time without her.
"Well, I tried" |
Arwen tells her mother that she tried and walks out of the room.
"That's the problem with year 9 girls" |
Ffion sighs that is the problem with year nine girls; “I’m not worried about them,” says Lleucu, but Ffion can see that she is worried about something.
"Dad tried to talk to me about mental health" |
“Dad tried to talk to me about his mental health,” which Ffion regards as a good thing, but she continues, “And I more or less told him to shut up – he obviously wanted to talk to me and I just ran away. I was scared of hearing it.”
"I can understand that" |
Ffion can understand that,
"I'm worried that I've hurt him" |
but now Lleucu is very worried that she has hurt him. “Your father’s tough – give him another chance,” Ffion advises, “And yourself.”
"I went 50 miles" |
Siôn comes back from his bike ride, telling them that he had a great time; “I went 50 miles – and it’s all thanks to you, Lleucu!”
Arwen is going home |
Arwen has had enough of this and leaves the house.
"I was in a place like this in Hull" |
Ieuan is getting into the swing of things at the bar in Swansea; “Very nice place, boys – I remember being in a place like this – in Hull, I think it was – a conference for councillors.”
"Did he say Hull or hell?" |
Rhys wonders whether he said ‘Hull’ or ‘Hell’, but Ieuan continues, “I was drinking that night – the place was full of dolly birds – there was a lot of ‘copping off’, I can tell you that!”
"Why do you keep checking your phone?" |
Rhys wonders why Mathew keeps checking his phone
"Keeping an eye on the CCTV" |
and is told that he is keeping an eye on the CCTV at APD; “I’m worried about the safe,” he admits.
"Can we go wherever these women are going?" |
As a young lady passes, Howard suggests, “Can we go to whatever bar these women are going to?” Mathew thinks that Howard is on a mission tonight,
Another round of shots |
and they prepare to down another round of shots.
“Tell me, now, why have you and Sioned split up?” Ieuan asks DJ
'Mind your own business, Ieuan" |
and is told to mind his own business; “It’s a step down, leaving the Penrhewl empire like that.”
In reply, DJ demands, “Why has Anita run off to Canada, then?”
"She's gone to see her son" |
Ieuan says that she has gone to see her son; everyone deserves a holiday.
"The best thing Sioned has done is finish with me!" |
DJ drunkenly declares, “The best thing Sioned has ever done is finish with me! She was going to do it some time, so it’s good she’s done it now.”
"Nothing was ever his fault" |
Over a cup of tea at number 7, Kelly muses, “Nothing was ever his fault, was it?”
"No, the world was always against Jason" |
Sara agrees that the world was always against Jason.
"Is it wrong to talk about him like this?"" |
“Is it wrong that we’re talking about him like this?” Kelly wonders.
"He wasn't an angel, Kelly" |
“Being away from this place for so long has given me perspective on so many things – he wasn’t an angel, Kelly.”
“He wasn’t a monster, either,” adds Kelly
"We've both had our share of monsters" |
and Sara remarks that they have both had their share of them, but she imagines that they learn from the monsters as well.
Kelly enquires if she has anyone special in Australia and is told, “Life’s changed a lot since I’ve been there.” Kelly can see that she has also changed;
"Cwmderi's too claustrophobic" |
“I wasn’t happy in Cwmderi – it’s too claustrophobic – and the history of the place makes someone hold a grudge.”
"I could definitely do with a trip to Australia – but I can't" |
“I could definitely do with a trip to Australia!” Kelly groans, “But I can’t, though – I’ve got a little boy I love more than anything in the world! I just wouldn’t do it to him. Diane said he enjoyed himself with you last week.”
Sara leaves the house . . . |
Sara agrees that they had a lot of fun and thinks that it is time she left;
. . . and Kelly is deep in thought |
she has appreciated being able to catch up
"I 'copped off ' with a grandmother" |
As they are laughing together in the bar, DJ is boasting about ‘copping off’ with a grandmother; “I was in school with her grandson!”
"Did she have white hair and a stick?" |
Howard enquires whether she had white hair and a stick. “I looked in her bedside drawer – and she had a ration book!” DJ laughs.
Griffiths imagines that he must love being single again; “You can go back to hunting cougars.”
"Good thing that Anita's in Canada" |
Rhys comments that it is a good thing that Anita is in Canada.
Mathew suggests that they could move on now;
"Somewhere with women!" |
“Yes, to somewhere with women!” Howard insists.
"A Gentleman's Club" |
Griffiths knows just the place, which Howard will love; “A Gentleman’s Club!”
"With strippers!" |
Rhys likes the idea of strippers.
"I've been member for years" |
“I’ve been a member for years, but I haven’t been recently.”
"Isn't that rather seedy?" |
Mathew describes the idea as rather ‘seedy’ but Rhys would prefer to call it ‘a bit of fun’.
Howard is eager to discover if they show everything, and Mathew is determined that he will not go with them.
He is still with them |
However, in the next scene, he is there, in the semidarkness;
"They don't make women like this in Cwmderi" |
they sit down on the sofas and Rhys wants to know where these women hide in the daytime. “They don’t make them like this in Cwmderi,” remarks DJ.
Griffiths insists that Matthew has got this all wrong;
"It's no different to going to the ballet" |
“Coming here is no different to going to the ballet – you come here to appreciate the aesthetic talents of the dancers.” Mathew asks if Anita knows that he comes there.
"Mimi was always my favourite!" |
Then another dancer comes on; “Mimi – she was always my favourite!” says Griffiths,
Unfortunately, we do not see much of Mimi |
but we do not see a great deal of her in the darkness.
"Where have you been, Dad?" |
At Y Felin, Lleucu is waiting for her father to come home; she asks where he has been.
"I went to the Deri to clear my head" |
“I went to the Deri to clear my head – and I walked a bit as well.”
"I'm sorry I didn't want to talk" |
She apologises for not wanting to talk; “It’s not all right – you’re ill – and that’s nothing to be ashamed of – you’re doing so well, considering what happened. I’m sorry if I haven’t told you that.”
"I know that it's hard" |
He replies that she has no reason to apologise; “I know that having a father who suffers with his mental health is hard – all we can do is listen and support each other.”
Lleucu hugs her father |
She gives her father a big hug and they assure each other of their love.
Griffiths is very appreciative |
At the Gentleman’s Club, Griffiths is applauding and comments on Mimi’s excellence. Howard is eagerly awaiting the next girl to appear
"I'm glad Sioned and I have finished!" |
and DJ mumbles, “I’m so glad Sioned and I have finished – if she hadn’t finished with me, I would have finished with her – and that’s the complete truth!”
"Still thinking about earlier" |
It is nine o’clock when Mathew receives a text message from Ffion; ‘Still thinking about earlier’, which makes him smile.
"I'm so excited!" |
The music starts up again, which Howard finds very exciting and the next girl comes on stage.
Then next dancer looks familiar . . . |
Beneath the red wig, he immediately recognises her as being Tegwen, his half-sister.
"Tegwen? |
“Tegwen?
"What the hell are you doing here?" |
“What the hell are you doing here?” he exclaims.
