"Don't forget to give everyone serviette"

As they are laying the tables in the Antur, Diane reminds Dai to give everyone a serviette;

"That's what I'm doing, woman!"

he angrily answers, “That’s what I’m doing, woman!”   But she reprimands him that they are not to be placed straight on the plate, but must be folded first.

"Would you like  a particular shape?

“Would you like a particular shape?   A rose or a duck, or something?” he growls,

"This isn't a job for a bloke with arthritis!

“This isn’t a job for a bloke with arthritis!”   Diane tells him that it is easy enough – even for him – and demonstrates how to fold the serviette diagonally.

"it isn't afternoon tea  in the Ritz, is it?I

“This isn’t afternoon tea in the Ritz, is it?” he grumbles, so she will do the job instead.   She says that she should have known better than to ask him for help.   “Good – I’ll pop to the Deri for a pint, then,” he answers, but she quickly overrules that.

Megan comes in

Megan comes in with a box of food and she is followed by Brynmor,

"So this is where the famous Clwb Awelon is"

who comments, “Oh, this is where the famous Clwb Awelon [Breeze Club] afternoon tea is.   Diane replies that is the intention and she hopes that people will turn up.

Megan is confident that they will,

"All I've heard is Clwb Awelon this and Clwb Awelon that!"

and Dai moans, “I hope they do – all I’ve heard lately is Clwb Awelon this and Clwb Awelon that!   You’d think that Queen Camilla was coming!”

Brynmor looks at the cakes . . .

Brynmor takes a fancy to the cakes on the table

. . . but is reprimanded by Megan

but is warned off by Megan.

"Will you be at the Talking Shed this afternoon?"

When he goes into APD to purchase a lightbulb, Mathew asks Jinx if he will be at the Talking Shed this afternoon.   “Yes, after I change this bulb for Dani,” he replies,

"Why can't she change it herself?"

“I don’t understand why she can’t change it herself.”

“I wish I had someone to change a lightbulb for,” Mathew groans and is reminded that he has Rhys;  “Oh, aren’t I lucky?” is the response and Jinx enquires why he is down in the dumps.

"When your love life is non-existent"

“Life’s just a bit miserable when your love life is non-existent.”   Jinx predicts that they will sort out his problems by the end of the night.

"I'm off now, Mathew"

Then Anita announces that she is off, as Kelly has Ifan and she thought she would pop over there before going to Clwb Awelon.

"You can't leave now!

“You can’t leave now!” Mathew informs her, “I’ve got the Talking Shed.   They’ll have to do without you.”

“What about Ifan?   Can’t you close early?” she whines.   Mathew is becoming angry and points out that, with her and Jason,

"I won't have a business left at this rate!"

he will not have a business left at this rate.

 So Anita has to stay

Anita reluctantly takes off her coat again.

"I can't think of anything worse"

In the Deri, Cai is trying to encourage Jason to come to the Talking Shed, apparently with little success.   “I can’t think of anything worse, so, please . . .”   Cai points out that he was only trying to help, but has now got the message.

Eleri comes downstairs

As Jason is about to enjoy his cup of tea, Eleri appears

"I've got a lot on at the moment"

and he says that he has a lot on at the moment.

"You still haven't made a decision about the money?"

“You still haven’t made a decision about this money,” she reminds him and he replies that he is just considering his options.

“You’re not looking for somewhere to live, are you?” he enquires.

The old people arrive

The old folks are arriving at Clwb Awelon and being welcomed by Diane

"The Talking Shed is supposed to be here now!"

when Cai walks in and demands what is going on.  “The Talking Shed is supposed to be here now!” he complains,

"I sent you a message about it"

but Diane maintains that she sent him a message about the change.

“I didn’t get it,” he snarls,

"Clwb Awelon will be here  from now on"

but is notified that Clwb Awelon will be meeting there at this time from now on.

“It’s a new enterprise – the council has provided a grant so that pensioners in the area can meet for cup of tea and a chat.”

"I'm not gaga yet!"

Dai interrupts to point out that he is only there to help out – and is not ‘gaga’ yet.

Cai discovers that Diane’s message went to spam and wonders if there is another room they can use;

"So the council only cares about the elderly now?"

“So the council only cares about the elderly?’’ he moans and she tells him to keep his voice down.

Cai refuses to do so and stresses, “The Talking Shed plays an important rôle –

"It's not just cakes and chatting"

“it’s not just cakes and chatting!”

Diane appears to be in an argumentative mood;  “That’s exactly the kind of a lack of respect toward the elderly that we’re trying to fight.

"Can you leave, please?"

“Now, if you don’t want to join Clwb Awelon, can you leave, please?”

"Kelly deserves something, doesn't she?"

In the Deri flat, Jason emphasises, “Kelly deserves something, doesn’t she?   I don’t want her to be empty-handed – and I don’t want to spoil things between her and Ifan.”

"But you're willing to sell Ifan's home"

Eleri comments that he is willing to sell Ifan’s home;

Jason can see no other choice.   “You’re too good to her,” Eleri maintains.

"I told her I still love her"

“I made a real fool of myself, too – I told her I still love her.   I know – pathetic!   While she’s the happiest she’s ever been – she said that she felt like Kelly again.”

"Oh – she's got a cheek!"

“Oh – she’s got a cheek!” exclaims Eleri,

"I feel like half the man I was!"

and Jason laments that he feels like half the man he was a year ago.

"She's taking advantage of you while you're down"

“She knows exactly what she’s doing – taking advantage of you when you’re down.   What did I tell you about not trusting anyone?”

"It's a pity you didn't move here a few months ago"

He says that advice came a little bit late for him;  “It’s a pity you didn’t move here a few months ago – I could have avoided all of this completely!”

Eleri suggests that it may not be too late;

"I am looking for a business . . ."

“I’m not looking for a house at the moment, but I am looking for a business.

". . . would you consider selling me your share of APD?"

“Would you consider selling your share of APD to me?”

He was not expecting that

Jason looks rather puzzled.

"It doesn't show a lot of respect"

At the Deri, Cai is moaning that Diane could have at least phoned him, and Jinx comments that it does not show a lot of respect

"I'm thinking of complaining to the council"
.

“I’m half thinking of complaining to the council,” Cai adds, but Mathew accuses him of overreacting.

"I can see the headlines now"

“I can see the headlines now – ‘Clwb Awelon kick out the boys with their zimmer frames’,” and Cai says that it was just a handy location.   Meeting in the Deri would be a problem as a lot of the boys do not want to meet in such a public place.

Mathew remarks that they do not have to meet in a building;

"Where do you fancy – behind the bike sheds?"

“Where do you fancy – behind the bike sheds?” wonders Jinx.

"Yeah – a zip wire!"

“Perhaps we could do an outdoor activity,” Mathew proposes;  Cai fancies a zip wire or something, as he missed out last night because of Siôn.   Then Mathew comes up with the idea of kayaking, but Jinx points out that he almost drowns in the shower.

"Are you all right, Lleucu?"

Cai’s phone sounds and he discovers that it is Lleucu;  he asks if she is all right,

Then th call ise terminated

but she already appears to have ended the call.   Meanwhile, orienteering has been suggested.   “Right – there we are, then – Talking Shed on tour, boys!” says Mathew.

Everyone is having a good chat

Those partaking of afternoon tea seem to be enjoying themselves,

"Is it safe for some of these to be out on their own?"

while Dai asks Brynmor, “Is it safe for some of these to be out on their own?”

"Some of them have aged quite a lot"

Brynmor points out that some of them have aged quite a lot since he last saw them when he was living at Brynawelon.

“I’m sure they’re saying the same thing about us,” Dai comments.

"Sorry I'm late, Megan"

Anita arrives late, explaining to Megan that she had to finish her shift and then see Ifan before coming.

"What's she doing here?"

Diane overhears this and turns round angrily;  “What’s she doing here?   Why did you want to see Ifan?”

"Oh, here we go!"

“Oh, here we go!” groans Dai

"I've come to make tea for old people, like you and Dai!"

“Megan invited me to make tea for old people, like you and Dai!” Anita provocatively answers.

"Say something, Dai!"

Diane immediately instructs Dai to say something

"I want you to leave!"

and orders Anita to leave.

“I’m not going anywhere!” is the reply.   Diane emphasises that she organised all this and will decide who stays.   Anita in turn points out that she owns half the place.

"People haven't come to listen to you arguing"

Megan tries to calm them;  “Ladies, people haven’t come here to listen to you two arguing.”

"Well, I'm enjoying myself!"

Brynmor thinks otherwise and tells Dai that he is enjoying himself.

"I shall ask both of you to leave"

Megan urges them to behave, or she will ask both of them to leave.

"You can't do that!"

“You can’t do that!” Diane condescendingly remarks.

"You haven't seen me angry yet – so shut it!"

“Can’t I?   You haven’t seen me angry yet – so shut it!” Megan shouts;

Brynmor and Dai find this amusing

Brynmor and Dai are enjoying this spectacle.

"This is the perfect opportunity, isn't it?"

In the Deri flat, Eleri explains that she has been looking for business in which to invest for some time, “And this is the perfect opportunity, isn’t it?”

"What would happen to my job?"

Jason enquires what would happen to his job;  would she keep him on?   She reassures him that she would and would try to get him a tidy pay rise as well.

“You would still be running the business day by day, just without the burden of being the owner.”

"This 'burden' is the only stability I have"

“The thing is, Eleri, that ‘burden’ is the only stability I have – it’s not just that – Mam and Dai worked hard to make the place a success, so they had something to pass on.   If I get rid of my share . . .”

She reminds him that things change, and, accepting that is the case

"I need to think about it"

he picks up his jacket and is about to leave the flat.   He thanks her for the offer, but needs some time to think about it.

"It's not an easy decision"

Eleri understands that it is not an easy decision and that he has Ifan to think about, which is a priority.   Jason leaves.

"No – this one's in France"

Jinx is doing a bit of online research;  “OK, boys, this looks very interesting – oh, no, it’s in France!  A bit too far to travel.”

"It would take longer to get to North Wales on the A470"

Cai predicts that it would take longer to get to North Wales on the A470, then he receives another mobile phone call, again from Lleucu.

"Are you all right?   Has something happened?"

“Are you all right?   Has something happened?   Is your mother with you?”

Now Cai is really concerned

Again the call is terminated prematurely and Cai is becoming very worried.

"How long is this going to be, Megan?"

The OAPs are all enjoying themselves as Dai asks Megan, “How long is this going to last?   I thought it was just an hour – not a marathon all day!”

"You should be glad people are enjoying themselves"

She replies, “You should be pleased that people are enjoying themselves – it’s a reflection of Diane’s hard work.”

Lady Muck summons the servant

At that moment, Diane, who seems to have acquired an inflated opinion of herself, snaps her fingers, requiring a fresh cup of tea, as she maintains her present one is stewed.   Anita prepares to bring her one.

"Do you remember when we had a plague of rats?"

Brynmor reminisces with two of the residents of the home, “Do you remember when we had a plague of rats at Bryn Awelon?

Anita pours a fresh cup

The matron got such a fright, she jumped into Myrddin Jones’ lap.   He almost had a heart attack!”

"Urgh – this tea is cold!"

Diane takes a sip of her fresh cup of tea and exclaims, “Anita – this cup of tea is cold – you did that on purpose!

"This tea is as cold as ice!"

“This tea is as cold as ice – try it, Dai!”

"What have you done now, Anita?"

He follows instructions and confirms what she has said;  “What have you done now, Anita?” he demands,

"I haven't done anything"

but she maintains she has done nothing.   Diane continues to broadcast her complaint at the top of her voice and Megan insists that there must have been some sort of mistake.

“You knew exactly what you were doing!” Diane snarls at Anita,

"I want you to leave – now!"

“I want you to leave – now!”   In order to avoid any more upset, Anita does leave.

"I'm definitely coming back next week!"

Brynmor turns to his two friends and says, “I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely coming back next week!”

Is that the lovely young waitress on her way to 'Tamed'?

Eleri comes out of the shop,

Eleri has bought a bottle

carrying a bottle and Mathew asks if she is celebrating something;

"Perhaps – we'll see by the end of the day"

“Perhaps – we’ll see by the end of the day,” she replies, “What are your plans for the next few days?”

“Work – and more work,” is his answer.   Eleri says that he deserves a break;

"You might like to cook a nice meal at your place"

she suggests that he might like to cook a nice meal over at his place.   “Do I need to ask Rhys to make himself scarce?” he enquires

"It might be a good idea"

and she thinks that it might be a good idea.

This has cheered up Mathew

Matthew believes that his luck may have changed.

"There – a nice, hot cup of tea"

Back at Bryntirion, Dai has made a cup of tea for Diane;  he stresses, “A nice, hot, cup of tea.”

Diane moans that she has never felt so ashamed in her life and at that moment Jason comes in,

"Kelly dropped him off earlier"

wondering why his mother looks so angry.   He is anxious that Ifan is all right.   “Yes, he’s upstairs – Kelly dropped him off earlier,” says Dai.

Then Jason asks how afternoon tea went;

"You don't want to know!"

“You don’t want to know,” Dai goes on.

"Anita Pierce has gone too far this time"

“Anita Pierce has gone too far this time!” Diane exclaims, and Dai points out that she gave his mother a cup of tea which was as cold as ice.

"On purpose!"

“On purpose!” growls Diane.

"Why would Anita do that?"

Jason wonders why she would do that;  “Because that’s how she is!

"I don't know what you let her and Kelly see Ifan so often"

“I don’t know why you let her and Kelly see Ifan so often!”   Jason replies that the boy needs stability, but she snarls, “There’s nothing stable about Anita!”

"Kelly fleecing you and taking every penny!"

Dai demands, “Tell me – what sort of stability is little Ifan going to get with Kelly fleecing you and taking every single penny you have?   Answer me that!”

"Ta-ra!"

Jason walks out of the house again.

"What about this, then?"

Jinx is still looking for outdoor pursuits;  “What about this, then?   An activity centre, just over the border – orienteering, rock climbing, kayaking . . . OK, perhaps not kayaking.   What do you think?”

Cai is worried about Lleucu

Cai has other things on his mind at the moment;  “Sorry, I’m just worried about Lleucu – I think she’s all right – it’s just that she ended the call while we were still talking.”

"Young people are like that these days"

Jinx says that young people are like that these days, but Cai regards the whole thing as rather strange;  “Usually, Nesta insists on being on every call –

"Do you think I should ask Nesta?"

“do you think I should ask Nesta if she’s all right?”

"Perhaps she has a boyfriend"

Jinx suggests that perhaps she has a boyfriend and she does not want her mother to know.   Cai had not thought of that.

"Have you seen Ieuan?"

Anita comes in, looking for Ieuan;

"I just don't know what to do"

“I just don’t know what to do,” she wails.

"It was an easy decision in the end"

Jason has gone up to the Deri flat, where Eleri was not expecting him so soon.   “Well, having thought about it, it was an easy decision in the end – I want to sell – Ifan needs a stable home and I want this business behind me as soon as possible.”

"I shall need to see the accounts"

She confirms that he is doing the right thing, but will need to see the accounts before she transfers the money;  “I don’t want to invest in an unsuccessful business.

"My former partner cleared my accounts"

“Look, my former partner faked his own death and cleared my accounts – so I’m not taking that risk again.”

"When do you want to see them?"

He asks when she wants to see them and she says that there is no rush, as she gets out the bottle from the fridge.

"There is one condition"

“And there is one condition – I want more than your share of the business – I want 50%.”

"Mathew own the rest"

He explains that Mathew owns the rest.

"It's your job to make that happen"

“I know that – so it’s your job to make that happen,” she tells him, which he regards as a rather strange request.

Brynmor is on his way to the flat

Brynmor arrives at the Deri as Anita is explaining to Jinx and Cai about the tea;  “I thought I’d put hot water in the teapot!”

"I put grapes on a pizza the other day"

Cai agrees that everyone does things like that and Jinx recalls that he put grapes on a pizza the other day, instead of olives.

“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” Anita whimpers, “A lot’s been going on recently, hasn’t it?”

Cai appreciates that it cannot be easy for her with Jason and Kelly separating.

"I'm sure you've heard about Ieuan's problems"

“And it’s not just that – I’m sure you’ve heard about Ieuan’s problems.”

Jinx believes that what she needs is a holiday, where she can take things easy for a while.

"Mathew needs me at APD"

“No, I can’t do that, because Mathew needs me now in APD – especially with Jason as he is.

"Listen to me complaining!"

“Sorry – listen to me – all I’m doing is complaining.   Thank you for listening to an old woman, going on.”

Jason is on his way out

She walks out of the Deri, just as Jason is coming downstairs, looking pleased with himself.   Cai comments that he does not seem right.

"Yon can't save everyone, Cai"

Jinx warns that Cai cannot save everyone.

"It almost turned into fisticuffs!"

Brynmor reports to his daughter that the afternoon tea almost turned into fisticuffs;  he was amazed that the police did not turn up.

"You enjoyed yourself, then

Eleri can see that he enjoyed himself.

"What did Jason want?'

Brynmor asks what Jason wanted;  “You’ve been spending quite a lot of time together these days – well, you look pleased with yourself anyway.”

"Things are starting to fall into place"

She replies that things are starting to fall into place and he is glad that the business with Cass has been sorted.

"Remember what you promised me in New York?"

“Listen, Dad, do you remember what you promised me back in New York?

"Well, I think it's time"

“Well, I think it’s time,” she tells him.
