Huwi-John certainly looks older than that

Eileen is looking at Huwi-John’s birth certificate when DJ walks into the room 

"Can you do a couple of hours at 'Tamed'

and asks her if she can do a couple of hours at ‘'Tamed'’.   He has organised to see a secondhand chiller cabinet in the Carmarthen;  “If I don’t go now, it will be gone.”   She advises him to find somebody else but he says there is no-one available at short notice.   

"I'm trying to get my papers in order"

Then he wonders what she is doing and she explains, “I’m sorting my papers out, trying to get everything in order, in case I’m not here.   

"The solicitor told me to do it"

The solicitor told me to do it – it shows how much faith he has in me.”

"That's simply protocol"

DJ points out that it is simply protocol and encourages her to go to ‘Tamed’ for a couple of hours to take her mind off it.   

"I might frighten the customers!"

“I might frighten the customers!” she warns, but he insists that she is old news – 

"Everyone is talking about Kath Jones and Siôn White"

everyone is talking about Kath Jones and Siôn White now.

She supposes that she might as well agree;  

"I don't want you to miss out on your chiller cabinet"

“I don’t want you to miss out on your chiller cabinet,” but she does not look any less concerned.

"I haven't been on a date for years"

At the bar in the Deri, Cassie tries to convince Gaynor that she will be fine;  “I don’t know – I haven’t been on a date for years,” worries Gaynor, so is advised to not overthink it.

"Think of him as a new friend"

“Think of him as a new friend,” says Cassie.   Gaynor maintains that she is not very good at making friends;  “Take a deep breath – 

"How about a little brandy?"

“and perhaps a little brandy might steady the nerves.”   Gaynor does not think that is a good idea as she needs to keep a clear head;  

"Right, I'll go and get changed"

now she will go and get changed and is told to enjoy herself.

That frame is a bit over the top

Kath looks at a photo of herself and Brynmor in a rather elaborate frame as Mark walks in;  he asks if she is all right.   “Did I make a fool of myself?” she demands 

"It was time for you to put Eleri in her place"

and he points out that it was definitely time for her to put Eleri in her place.

"Brynmor hasn't spoken to me since"

“Well, Brynmor hasn’t spoken to me since,” she adds and Mark is surprised by this, as Brynmor has already been over to apologise to him and gave the impression that everything was OK between them.

“I’m glad he said sorry, because he had no right to threaten you, but he still blames me for upsetting Eleri,” says Kath;  

"She's the one upsetting everyone"

Mark insists that she is the one upsetting everybody, just as Eleri comes into the room.

"What do you think you're doing?"

“Hey, what do you think you’re doing, turning Brynmor against Mam?” snarls Mark, 

"She misunderstood everything"

and she points out that his mother misunderstood everything.

Arwen is back from school

Arwen comes home from school and greets her mother, 

"I've got a surprise for you"

who immediately tells her to go and get changed as she has a surprise.   “What sort of surprise?” asks Arwen, suspiciously.

"We're going to see a house"

“We’re going to see a house,” says Ffion, 

"I've arranged to go out with Ethan"

but Arwen had arranged to go out with Ethan.   “Again?   You only went out with him yesterday,” comments Ffion, 

"Well, Ethan will have to do without you tonight"

“Well, Ethan will have to do without you tonight – unless you want me to pick a house on my own.   It looks great, doesn’t it?” as she shows Arwen the pictures.

"Perhaps you need a boyfriend, Mam"

Arwen recommends, “Perhaps you need a boyfriend, so you’re less ‘needy’ with me!”   She is instructed to get changed now.

"Come in to keep an eye on me, have you?"

Siôn comes into the deli, where Eileen is behind the counter, still looking at her box of official papers.   “Have you come in to keep an eye on me?’ she asks, 

"I regret putting the money back"

“I shouldn’t have listened to you the other night – the money for Howard – I regret putting it back in the bucket!   It gets under my skin, thinking about him enjoying himself 

"I don't know what my future holds"

“when I don’t know what my future holds!”

"You can't put a price on a clear conscience"

Siôn assures her that she did the right thing;  “You can’t put a price on a clear conscience.”   

"You don't always have to do what's right"

Eileen argues that you do not always have to do what is right.   He asks her not to be angry with him, as that is the last thing he needs today.

“Haven’t you been on Facebook?   Everyone’s making fun of me after the comedy night – they’re saying how terrible I was.   I know I’m not the most natural comedian, but was I really this bad?”   

He reads out a couple of the comments;  

"More laughs at my grandmother's funeral"

“There were more laughs at my grandmother’s funeral than at Siôn White’s comedy night – “I’d rather stick . . .”

"I have more important things to do"

Eileen does not want to hear any more, but growls that she has more important things to do than watch him lick his wounds.

Ffion appears impressed

Rhys is showing Ffion and Arwen round a rather large house;  “This is the kitchen,” he announces, 

"I knew you'd like it"

which Ffion finds very impressive, with its island.   “I knew you’d like it – and there’s underfloor heating,” he adds, 

"Take your shoes off – go on!"

“Take your shoes off – go on.”

A rare glimpse of Ffion's foot

“Ooh – I could stand here all day!” Ffion gasps, 

"Put them on again!"

while Rhys holds his nose and tells her to put them on again.

Arwen is nosing onto the drawers 

Meanwhile Arwen is investigating the contents of the drawers and is reprimanded by her mother;  “That’s what people do at house viewings, isn’t it?” she replies.   Rhys maintains that if they do, they are much more discreet than her.

"Let me show your mother the upstairs . . ."

“Right, let me show your mother the upstairs, so you can snoop in the drawers – 

". . . make sure you put everything back"

but make sure you put everything back where it was.”

"You're a bad influence, Rhys"

Ffion comments that he is a bad influence to which Rhys says, “And you’ve forgotten how to have fun!”

Tom is waiting for his date

Tom is sitting at the rather posh restaurant and looking anxiously at his watch 

"I'm not late, am I?"

when Gaynor makes her appearance, concerned that she is late, but he assures her she is not.   Their date starts rather awkwardly, with Gaynor asking if he easily found the place;  

"I'm staying at a hotel nearby"

he is staying in a nearby hotel.   

"Could I have water, please?"

Gaynor asks the waitress if she can have water and they sit looking at each other in a rather embarrassed fashion.

“There aren’t very many people here,” he remarks, 

"Well, it is the middle of the week"

which she says is probably due to the fact that it is the middle of the week.

He has to visit the toilet and Gaynor points out that it is on the right through the lobby;  

"I've been her before – but not on a date"

“I’ve been here before – not on a date, mind you.”   She is not very happy about the way this is going.

"Have a look at the garden, Ffi"

Ffion and Rhys return from upstairs and he invites her to look at the garden, which she will love.   

"You and Mam are flirting"

When she has gone outside Arwen declares, “You and Mam are flirting – I think she misses you.”   

"That's nonsense"

Rhys accuses her of talking nonsense, so she continues, “It would be nice if you went out again.”

He is adamant that is not going to happen, but she points out, “You don’t know unless you try – 

"I think she's like it"

“I think she’d like it!” 

"She may be right"

and leaves him to mull over this thought. 

Here comes trouble

Eleri enters the Deri and her father asks where she has been;  “I went for a walk to clear my head after – you know,” and he does not blame her.  

"I'm sorry about all this"

He is sorry about all of this.   

Not much escapes Cassie's notice

Cassie is behind the bar and taking careful note of their conversation.

“I know my existence has come as a shock to them, but you’d think they would make an effort for your sake,” Eleri complains and he agrees;  

"I'll have another word with Kath"

he says that he will have another word with Kath.

"Would you mind if I tried talking to her?"

“Would you mind if I tried talking to her?” suggests Eleri, “I really want us to try and understand each other.”   

"I you think it will help"

Her father agrees, if she thinks it will help and she is confident that she will sort things out.   

All of this was heard by Cassie

Cassie is extremely suspicious.

The meal is very tasty

In the restaurant, the dating couple are eating their meal, which is very tasty;  

"Do you know when the funeral will be?"

“Do you know when your aunt’s funeral is going to be?” Gaynor enquires and he says that nothing has been organised yet, then she asks whether it was his father’s sister or his mother’s.

"I didn't get on with men parents"

His parents are no longer alive and he says that he did not get on with them.   

"What is your line of business?"

Gaynor then asks in what field he works and he replies, “I’m a health and safety adviser for businesses.”

"This date is a shambles, isn't it?"

She has come to the conclusion, “This date is a shambles, isn’t it?   Come off it – the conversation isn’t flowing, is it?   And it’s not like you want to get to know me.   

"It's nobody's fault"

“You don’t need to apologise – it’s nobody’s fault – it was nice to meet you in Aberystwyth, 

"Perhaps we didn't need to meet again"

“but perhaps we didn’t need to meet again.”

"I'm disappointed to hear you say that"

“Well, I’m disappointed to hear you say that,” he replies, 

"I've been out of the dating game so long"

“I’ve been out of the dating game for so long, I’ve forgotten how to do it.   I tend to go into my shell when I’m nervous.”

"Perhaps I talk too much"

Gaynor acknowledges, “Perhaps I talk too much when I’m nervous.”   

"Why don't we start again?"

Tom suggests that they should start again and Gaynor would like that.

Eileen closes the deli

Eileen closes the deli 

"I have to pay the insurance early"

as she explains to Siôn, “I have to pay the insurance for the 4x4, the car and the house early, in case I can’t do it from prison.”   

"Can't Sioned and DJ help with that?"

Siôn suggests that Sioned and DJ could help with that, but she predicts that they will be busy with twins on the way;  

"I shall have to ask them to look after Huwi-John for me" 

“And I shall have to ask them to look after Huwi-John for me – I can’t put even more responsibility on their shoulders.”

"Is there anything I can do, Eileen?"

Siôn wonders if there is anything he can do, 

"No, I have to do it all myself"

but she says that she will have to do it all herself.   

"Everything will be all right"

He takes her hand and assures her that everything will be all right.

“You’re very kind, Siôn, but you can’t promise me that,” she tells him, 

"I'm the one paying the price!"

“They were the ones trespassing on my land, but I’m the one paying the price – I didn’t mean to hurt Howard.”

"I understand that, Eileen"

Siôn believes her and understands that she has to sort out the paperwork in case the worst happens, but there is a big difference between that and accepting that she is definitely going to jail.   

Siôn gives her a hug . . .

He gives her a comforting hug, 

. . . just as DJ comes in . . .

just as DJ arrives and lets himself in, 

. . . followed by Cassie

followed by Cassie.   

"Just getting some change for Cassie"

He explains that he is getting some change for her, as Siôn and Eileen sit, looking embarrassed.

"You two seem to be good friends"

“You two seem to be good friends all of a sudden,” observes Cassie and Siôn replies that everybody needs support at times.   

"Shooting Howard was a mistake"

Eileen admits that shooting Howard was a mistake.

"Leaving him for dead was a mistake as well, I'm sure"

“Leaving him for dead in the shed was a mistake too, I’m sure,” Cassie cynically adds.

"Considering what you did to my sister!"

“I would expect you, of all people, to know that mistakes happen – considering what you did to my sister!” Eileen snarls, 

"There is no comparison, Eileen"

but Cassie points out that there is no comparison between the two things.

Eileen threatens Cassie

“You keep tarnishing my name around here and I’ll make sure I do exactly the same thing back to you!” Eileen threatens.   Cassie does not appear greatly troubled by this, as she leaves the deli.

Eleri has been shopping

Brynmor walks into the Deri flat and refuses the offer of a cup of tea;  Eleri has been shopping and is proposing to make dinner for the three of them tonight.   

"Sausage and chips – your favourite"

“Sausage and chips –  I heard Kath say it’s your favourite meal.”

Kath comes in

He assumes that the chat with Kath went well, but is surprised to hear that it has not taken place yet.   At that moment Kath arrives 

"We need to reach some kind of understanding"

and is told by Eleri, “I’m happy to see you because Dad and I have been talking.   We need to reach some kind of understanding.”

"That's what I was trying to do last week"

Kath reminds her she was trying to do that last week.   

"That's not how it sounded"

“Is it?   Because that’s not how it sounded when you accused me of trying to steal Dad’s money.   But forget about that now – 

'I forgive you"

“I forgive you and I understand that you’re worried about Dad.”   Kath agrees that is exactly how she feels and will see them later.

"Dinner will be about an hour"

“Remember to come back for dinner – it will be about an hour,” says Eleri, “If that’s convenient for you.”   

They hope this sorted things

Eleri and her father look at each other, 

Brynmor follows Kath 

after which Brynmor follows Kath downstairs.

"I don't want the children to come between his"

Back down in the bar, he urges Kath to wait;  “I don’t want the children to come between us,” he says, “I know we’ve both been hurt in trying to deal with this situation – but I’ve apologised to Mark.   

"Is there any chance you can make a bit more effort?"

“Eleri is trying to make an effort, as you know – is there any chance you can make a bit more effort as well?   

"Do you think you can apologise to her"

Do you think you can apologise to her?”

Kath does not say anything

Kath does not answer.

"I can'r believe you were in a band . . ."

The atmosphere in the restaurant is now much more convivial;  “I can’t believe for a second that you were in a band!” gasps Tom, 

". . . was it a brass band?'

“Was it a brass band?”

"We had some very wild gigs!"

She explains that he was rather a rock-and-roll band – and they had some very wild gigs, “But I’m not sure I know you well enough to discuss that period.   Put it this way – the Gaynor sat in front of you today is very different to that Gaynor.”   

"I'm very glad I contacted you"

Tom is very glad that he contacted her and regards today as a lot of fun;  

"After my little outburst!"

“After my little outburst!” she adds.   He likes the fact that she can say what is on her mind.

"I'll pay next time"

When the waiter brings the bill, Tom insists that he will pay, while Gaynor says that she will pay next time.   

"So there's going to be a next time?"

“So there’s going to be a next time?” he enquires, “I’m sure I can wangle another trip on the business account.”

"Right, until next time"

“Right, until next time,” says Gaynor 

He kisses her . . . 

and Tom kisses her, before leaving for his hotel.   

. . . and Gaynor feels quite happy

She looks cautiously optimistic after this evening.

"I'm in an impossible position"

“I’m in an impossible position, Cassie,” says Kath;  

"At least you can see what we're seeing"

Cassie is just happy that Kath can see what she and Mark are seeing.

“Look, I hope Brynmor realises how much strain you’re under.”   

"Everyone's under strain – except Eleri!"

Kath maintains that everyone is under strain – everyone except Eleri.   

"Don't let anyone put you in a corner"

“Don’t let anyone put you in a corner – do you hear me?” says Cassie.

The table is being laid for dinner

Upstairs, the table is being laid for dinner;  “Just in time to tell me what you want – petit pois or mushy peas,” says Eleri, and Kath chooses the latter.

"I want to apologise"

“Before you do anything, I’ve got something to say to you,” Kath tells her, “I want to apologise – I shouldn’t have got angry and said the things I said.   

"You're welcome to stay"

“You’re Brynmor’s daughter and you’re welcome to stay here as long as you want to.”

"That means the world to me, Kath"

Eleri maintains that it means the world to her 

Brynmor is glad it has been sorted

and Brynmor is glad that the matter has been sorted out;  

"We can put it all behind us"

he suggests that they put all that behind them.

Ffion comes out of the shop

Rhys crosses the road and encounters Ffion coming out of the shop;  

"The flat feels very small now"

“Thanks again for showing us that house – the flat feels very small now.”   He asks if she has thought about making an offer and she urges him to calm down;  she has not yet decided whether she will.

"It's a no-brainer!"

“Come on, Ffi – you’d be a fool not to – it’s a no-brainer!” he exclaims, “And I can give you a good deal.   If you want to discuss it further, just give me a shout.”

"Can I text you when I'm free?"

She thinks that might be a good idea as there is so much to consider;  “Can I text you when I’m free?”   Rhys looks very pleased with himself.

"I've just had dinner with Eleri"

Mark was not expecting to see his mother at Maes-y-Deri;  she apologises for calling so late and says that she has just had dinner with Eleri.   

"Did she walk all over you again?"

“Did she walk all over you again?” he wonders.

“No – what did I tell you about playing the long game?   We don’t know the half of it – I’m telling you now – she’s not here to get to know her father better.   

"She's hiding something and I'm going to find out what it is!"

“There’s something going on – I’m not sure what – but something stinks!   She’s hiding something and I’m going to find out what it is!”
