Colin wakes up on the sofa |
Colin has spent the night on the sofa at the shop flat; Rhys is eating his breakfast when Colin awakens and appears to be surprised to see Rhys,
"The kettle's lust boiled, Col" |
who informs him that the kettle has just boiled.
"That's the best night's sleep I've had in ages" |
Still in some pain from his injury, he struggles up from the sofa; “That’s the best night’s sleep I’ve had in ages – a lot better than that bed in the hospital. This isn’t a hangover –
"Cocktail of cider and painkillers" |
“just a cocktail of cider and painkillers has made me feel a bit rough.”
"Going to book flight to Thailand?" |
Rhys wonders what his plan of action is; “Book a flight to Thailand? That’s what you were saying last night – that you never wanted to see Britt again and you were going to join Lois in Thailand.” Colin cannot believe that he said that.
"Talk to Britt, yeah?" |
“Look, I know things aren’t too great at the moment, but talk to Britt, yeah?”
Colin considers the idea |
Colin thinks that might be a good idea.
Eileen is doing some manual work |
Eileen appears to have been doing some mucking out at the farm when Howard approaches;
"You have no right to be on my land!" |
“You have no right to be on my land!” she snarls, “You’re trespassing – I want you to leave!” Howard points out that he is just there for his wages – she owes him three weeks’ pay.
"I could go to jail because of you!" |
“I could go to jail because of you,” she exclaims, “You’ve had it too good for too long here – you’re on your own now, good boy!”
"I tried to lie to the police" |
He assures her that he did not want this and he tried to lie to the police,
"You didn't try very hard, then" |
so she sneers, “You didn’t try very hard, then.”
He begs her for the money, but she simply replies, “I thought we had something special, you and me – from the same background – but you chose her, that townie, over me.
"You did shoot me, Eileen" |
He reminds her that she did shoot him
"If you don't leave now, I'll shoot the other leg!" |
and she continues, threateningly, “If you don’t leave now, I’ll have no choice but to shoot the other leg. Go!”
Kelly comes out of number 7 |
Kelly comes out of number 7 and Rhys sees her from across the road;
"Llywelyn and Evans or Evans and Llywelyn?" |
“What sounds better, ‘Llywelyn and Evans’ or ‘Evans and Llywelyn’? Want to buy Tomos ac Ellis with me?”
"No chance! Because I'm penniless!" |
She is quite clear about this; “No chance! Because I’m penniless!”
Siôn is doing some fly posting |
Siôn is affixing a poster to the bus shelter, advertising his comedy night in the Deri,
In aid of the food bank |
‘all proceeds to Cwmderi Food Bank’.
He admires his handiwork |
He looks quite pleased with his work.
Britt is about to go into MFC |
Britt approaches MFC; “Ah, just the woman I wanted to see,” he tells her,
"Would you mind putting up one of these posters?" |
“would you mind putting up one of these posters in MFC? I’m doing a comedy night and . . .”
She slams the door in his face |
He gets no further as Britt goes into the shop and shuts the door.
"You'll have the money in two weeks" |
Inside the Tomos ac Ellis office, Rhys reminds Kelly that she will have the money in two weeks, but she is less confident about that. “I wouldn’t count my chickens,” she says,
"I think I'll have to take him to court" |
“I think I’ll have to take Jason to court to get the cash. Thanks, though, Rhys, because I would have loved to buy the place.”
Rhys agrees that perhaps he should rethink as well; “I didn’t do a great job of running ‘Chwys Rhys’.”
"Rhys – go for it, right?" |
“That’s not true – it was a massive success before Covid, wasn’t it?” she answers, “Rhys – go for it, right? Don’t let me hold you back – you’ll be brilliant –
"Seriously, not happening!" |
“just don’t expect me to call you ‘boss’, cos, seriously, not happening!”
Eileen is still hard at work |
Eileen is continuing her mucking out activities, now that she is all on her own at the farm,
Siôn fears his shoes are going to get dirty |
when Siôn appears and is very reluctant to get his shoes dirty.
"I hope I'm not interrupting" |
He hopes that he is not interrupting and she comments, “It’s nice to see a friendly face –
"Everyone else is keeping away" |
“everyone else is keeping away.”
"They may be afraid of getting shot" |
He supposes that they may be afraid of being shot;
"You think I was wrong to protect my farm?" |
Eileen replies, “Ah, you think I was wrong to protect my home as well – protect my family and defend this farm. I thought you of all people would think otherwise –
"Tan yn Llyn – burning the bombing school" |
“Tan yn Llyn – burning the bombing school – we have to go to extremes sometimes, especially if our homes are under threat.”
HISTORICAL NOTE: When the government decided to establish an RAF bombing school at the historic and cultural site of Penyberth on the Llyn peninsula, despite approximately half a million protests, there was intense anger throughout all of Wales.
Three Plaid Cymru members, Saunders Lewis, Lewis Valentine and DJ Williams, decided that the only course of action remaining was to set fire to the bombing school. This they duly did on 8th September 1936, giving themselves up immediately at Pwllheli police station.
At the trial at the Old Bailey in London, the three men were sentenced to nine months imprisonment in Wormwood Scrubs, but on their release they were treated to heroes’ welcomes at a pavilion in Caernarfon, by 15,000 people and the incident has attained iconic status among Welsh nationalists.
"That was a bit different, Eileen" |
Siôn considers that was a bit different and she insists that they all wanted to protect their property – she will not apologise for that. “Things are not black and white in life, are they, Siôn?”
Then he hands over one of his posters |
Then he gets to the point of his visit; to ask her to display one of his posters at ‘Tamed'’.
"You've left it rather late" |
She remarks that he has left it rather late to advertise and asks who will be taking part. “Just me,” he replies, “I’m not joking!”
Hywel beckons to Rhys . . . |
Hywel is walking past Tomos ac Ellis and taps on the window
. . . who is reading |
to attract Rhys’ attention;
"Have you spoken to Griffiths yet?" |
“Have you spoken to Griffiths yet?” he asks and Rhys has decided he is not going to talk to him.
"Kelly can't invest" |
Kelly cannot invest, and he cannot do it on his own.
"I can be with you in five minutes" |
Then Rhys receives a phone call; “You’re coming to see the flat today? I can be with you in about five minutes,”
Rhys goes back into he office |
and with that he goes back into the shop.
Colin takes some more tablets |
Colin is on duty at the shop, despite his recent injury, and is about to take some more painkillers when Howard walks in, carrying a black sack.
Howard comes in and helps himself |
He begins to help himself to various items in the shop and place them in his sack.
He starts on the chiller cabinet |
When he reaches the chiller cabinet,
"What do you think you're doing, Howard?" |
Colin calls to him to stop; “What do you think you’re doing, Howard? You are going to pay for those, I hope.”
"She can pay me in food . . ." |
Howard enlightens him, “Eileen owes me £800 and if she won’t pay me in cash, she can pay me in food –
". . . and booze" |
“and booze!” He helps himself to quite a few bottles, after pushing Colin out of the way.
"I'll call the police!" |
“You can’t do that!” Colin shouts, “I’ll get the sack! Right, if you don’t leave this shop empty-handed in ten seconds, I’m calling the police,” but he is completely ignored.
"What's going on?" |
Cassie comes in and demands what is going on;
"He's stealing!" |
“He’s stealing!” replies Colin
"I'm only taking what I'm owed" |
and Howard tells her he is only taking what he is owed.
"Tell me exactly what's going on" |
“Stop for a minute and tell me exactly what’s going on,” she instructs them.
Britt looks at her phone in MFC, where Kelly is sitting idly at a table;
"We're both bundles of joy today" |
“Wow, we’re both bundles of joy today,” Kelly groans.
"No need to talk every minute of the day" |
Britt maintains there is no need to talk every minute of every day.
"I haven't lived alone for years" |
“Sorry, I’m just not used to the silence – I haven’t lived alone for years,” Kelly goes on. Britt can see that she is finding it difficult; “Obviously I miss seeing Ifan every day – but, to be honest, I enjoy having the house to myself –
"I'm in control of how long I'm in the shower" |
“I’m in control of how long I’m in the shower, I don’t have to pick up anyone’s socks – except mine, obviously. And I can have Pasta Pesto for dinner every night if I want to.”
"Colin doesn't care if we east the same thing every night" |
Britt muses, “Colin doesn’t care if we eat the same thing every night,” then Kelly’s phone rings;
"Please tell me it's good news" |
“Please tell me it’s good news,” she says.
"You're making things worse for yourself, Howard" |
In the shop, Cassie warns, “You’re making things worse for yourself, Howard,”
"How can things be worse?" |
but he demands how things can be worse – he is £800 out of pocket and has no cash – while John Deri Fawr is selling his home.
"I'll help you find a home and a job" |
Cassie declares that she will help him find a home and a job; “And Colin will help, too,” which comes as rather a surprise to Colin.
"I bet she'll get away with shooting me, too!" |
“It’s not fair that Eileen is getting away with not paying me,” protests Howard, “I worked hard for her – I bet she’ll get away with shooting me, too!”
He walks out of the shop, complete with his bag of food and drink,
"I'm fed up with people taking advantage of me!" |
shouting, “No – I’m fed up with people taking advantage of me, all right?”
Afternoon tea at Penrhewl |
Eileen and Siôn are having a cup of tea together in the farmhouse and it appears that Siôn is practising some of his jokes on her. “Tudur Owen ‘needs to be careful if you ask me,” says Siôn
"Gwen had a list of things she wanted to do" |
and then adds that he is doing this for Gwen. “She had a list of things she wanted to do before she died, and I’m going to try and do them. Public speaking was the challenge.”
"I don't think I shall be there" |
Eileen encourages him but does not think that she will be there;
He cannot change her mind |
“Come on,” he urges, “Saunders Lewis, DJ Williams and Lewis Valentine didn’t hide after their act, did they?”
Eileen appreciates the comparison, but argues that she is not as strong as them;
"You have remarkable strength, Eileen" |
Siôn maintains that she has remarkable strength, but she would rather stay at home; she tells him not to take it personally.
As soon as he has gone her phone rings;
"What sort of things?" |
“Hello – what sort of things?” she demands angrily, “No, don’t phone the police –
She will sort out Howard |
“I’ll sort him out!”
"I feel awful, Cassie" |
As he sits in the Deri, Colin tells Cassie that he feels awful; “You had no choice but to tell Eileen,” she stresses,
"I hope I haven't made it worse for Howard" |
but he hopes he has not made it worse for Howard.
"You sort out your problem with Britt" |
“Forget about Howard and sort out your problem with Britt,” she advises. He says that he has lost count of the number of times he has apologised and she remarks that sometimes it takes more than words. When he asks for a pint of cider, she warns that the answer to his problems is not in a bottle.
Siôn arrives with his posters |
Siôn comes in with some posters for her to put up for the comedy night,
Kath was going to make some posters |
but Cassie tells him that Kath was going to make some posters this afternoon.
"I've seen Kath's posters!" |
“I’ve seen Kath’s posters, so I wanted to make them myself,” is his reply.
"I've got it, Cassie!" |
Then Colin has an idea, but will not reveal what it is and rushes out of the Deri.
Howard is eating his groceries |
Howard is tucking into some of the food which he purloined from the shop when Eileen walks in
"You pig!" |
and describes him as, “You pig!”
"Are you serious about buying Tomos ac Ellis?" |
Hywel comes into the shop flat; “I won’t keep you long, Rhys, but I wanted to ask you face-to-face if you’re serious about buying Tomos ac Ellis?”
"Well, I was" |
Rhys says that he was and his father suggests that he might be able to help – as a silent partner.
"It would be your business" |
“It would be your business, but I’d get a share of the income.”
"You feel sorry for me, do you?" |
Rhys finds this hard to believe; “You’re not doing this because you feel sorry for me, are you?”
His father answers that he never goes into business lightly. “You’re brilliant at your job – I want to see you succeed!”
Rhys is at a loss to know what to say; “You could start by saying thank you,” says Hywel,
"There is one condition" |
then adds that there is one condition, which makes Rhys suspicious.
Howard informs Eileen that she is not getting any of the stuff back;
"I don't want it back!" |
I don’t want it back – losing a hundred pounds-worth of stock is nothing to me!” she snaps. He tells her if that is the case, she can go.
"I'm glad you stole those tims of ham" |
“I’m glad that you stole those tins of ham – because we were struggling to sell them.” Then she picks up a jar of beans; “These beans are a nightmare to clear up, don’t you think?”
What childish behaviour |
as she unscrews the lid and pours them all over the table.
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
"Enjoy your home – while you have one!" |
Howard demands and she snarls that she hopes she enjoys the nasty taste of that food and enjoys his home – while he has one. With that she storms out of the house.
"You said someone would phone" |
Britt is on the phone; “You said someone would phone with an update about Kylie, but I haven’t heard anything!” Meanwhile, Colin creeps quietly in through the front door, as the chain has now been removed.
“You must be able to say something,” Britt goes on, “OK, thanks for nothing!” Colin asks whether she got any sense out of them
"They wouldn't tell me anything" |
and is told that they would not tell her anything. He is sure that the home are looking after Kylie,
"She should be here with us – safe" |
but Britt protests, “She should be here with us, safe.”
He is glad that she has taken the chain off the door and she says she was not expecting him to come over.
"I've come to try and build bridges" |
“Well, I’ve come to try and build bridges,” he continues, handing her a piece of paper. “A sauna hut on Cefn Sidan Beach next month. A dip in the sea first thing and then a sauna to sweat and warm up – I think it would do us the world of good.”
"I regret causing so much trouble . . ." |
“I regret causing so much trouble – I really do – I’m sorry. I can’t bear to see you so unhappy. If I could change what happened last week, I would – in a flash.
". . . I should never have put Kylie in that situation" |
“I should never have put Kylie in that situation –
"I was completely stupid" |
“I was completely stupid – worse than that, I was selfish.”
"Shall we have a cup of tea?" |
Britt does not like to see him unhappy either and suggests that they have a cup of tea.
A previous incarnation of the estate agents |
Hywel has dug out a historic photograph of the estate agents with the name ‘Llywelyn and Son’
"It's time the name Llywelyn was back on the High Street" |
and maintains that it is time that the name ‘Llywelyn’ was back on the High Street.
"Have we got a deal?" |
“I want to see a business plan so I can see the potential in it – have we got a deal?”
"One condition" |
However, before they do the deal, Rhys has one condition as well. His father had doubts whether he is in a position to make conditions.
"I have to do this the way I want to do it" |
“I want it in black and white that I’m running the business and that you’re a silent partner. I appreciate the help, but I have to do this the way I want to do it.”
He makes an adjustment to the photo |
Hywel does not object to this, so Rhys proposes, “I think the right name is
'Llywelyn and Dad' |
“‘Llywelyn and Father’ – what do you think?”
"Llywelyn and Dad!" |
They shake hands.
"Siôn White is doing stand-up" |
In the Deri, Kelly is asked if she will be attending the comedy evening; “The word on the street is that Siôn White is doing stand-up –
"I'd rather stick pins in my eyes!" |
“honestly, Cass, I’d rather stick pins in my eyes,” is Kelly’s less than enthusiastic verdict and Cassie does not blame her.
"Large shot of whisky, please" |
Howard arrives and asks for large shot of whisky;
"Are you going to apologise?" |
“Are you going to apologise for the way you behaved in the shop?” Cassie demands and he urges her not to start, as he has had a long day.
Kelly is interested; “What’s up?” she asks
"I don't want to talk about it" |
and he says he does not want to talk about it.
"The cops are not going to prosecute us" |
“Well, you know what? I’ve got good news for you – the cops are not going to prosecute us for anything.” Cassie regards that as very good news.
Howard is going to work for his cousin |
“But Eileen is still going to get away with not paying me!” Howard snarls and this comes as news to Kelly. “So now I have no choice but to leave Cwmderi to go and work for my cousin at Cardigan.
"This will be my last drink here for a while" |
“This will be my last drink here for a while.”
"Once Kylie is back . . ." |
As they sit peacefully on the sofa, Britt says that she hates falling out with Colin and he feels likewise. “Once Kylie is back, everything will be back to normal.”
"She might not come back, you know" |
Colin suspects that she might not come back; if that happens,
"I promise not to hold a grudge" |
Britt promises not to hold a grudge against him.
“I’ve made such a mess of everything, haven’t I?” groans Colin.
"I'm glad you regret going to see Yvonne" |
Britt is just glad that he regrets going to see Yvonne; now that she is behind them, they can move forward.
"I hope she rots in jail" |
“To to be honest, Col, I hope she rots in jail for what she put you through.”
"I couldn't lose her again without saying goodbye" |
Colin, on the other hand, protests that he cannot just forget about her and neither does he regret going to see her. “I said I regretted spoiling things with Kylie, that’s all. I’ve lost Yvonne once and I couldn’t lose her again without saying goodbye.”
"She's a murderer, Col" |
When Britt points out that she is a murderer,
"Yvonne is my little sister" |
he replies, “Yvonne is my little sister – and the fact that she is in prison is not going to change that. I’m not going to turn my back on her – not now – I’m going to support her every step of the way.”
"What about supporting me?" |
Britt flies off the handle again; “What about supporting me? Because you can’t do both!”
"Well, that's your answer, then" |
“Well, that’s your answer, then,” he says, as he goes up the stairs
