Jinx indulges in an old French custom . . .

Jinx is in the deli, dipping his croissant in his tea, 

. . . which Dani finds distasteful

a habit which Dani finds quite repulsive.   “This is what they do in France,” he tells her, 

"Don't you believe me?"

“Don’t you believe me?”

She is about to prove him wrong . . .

She certainly does not believe him, so is about to look it up on Google.   

. . . when she has bad news from the salon

At that moment a message appears on her phone that the salon want to change her hair appointment today.   

“I can’t – I’m picking up Gabriel from nursery,” she protests, so Jinx volunteers to get him.   She is worried that he is rather clingy at the moment, but Jinx is insistent that he will do it.

"Yes, you were right!"

“Yes, you were right!” she announces, after she has consulted Google;  

"Bon appetit!"

he wishes her ‘bon appetit’ as he dunks his croissant again.

Cai is arguing with Nesta

At Y Felin, Cai is on the phone to Nesta;  “When exactly were you going to tell me?” he demands, “When you were on the plane or what?   

"I don't care what Llion says!"

“I don’t care what Llion says – he’s not their father, is he?   I was ill then – and Twm got his present in the end!   Come on, Nesta – there’s no need to play that card, is there?   Yeah, OK!”

"Llion's got an interview in Dubai"

He tells Siôn, who has been listening to this conversation, “Llion’s got an interview to teach English at a school in Dubai.”   

Lleucu is listening

We see that Lleucu is hovering at the top of the stairs, also listening in to this as her father continues, “He hasn’t been offered the job yet, so nothing’s definite – Nesta says they’d only be out there for a year – but I think she was just saying that.”

"She wants too stay here with you"

“And what about Lleucu?” asks Siôn, “She wants to stay here with you, doesn’t she?”

"Her place is with her mother and Twm"

Cai is of the opinion that his daughter’s place is with her mother and Twm, but Siôn reminds him, “You might lose contact with both of them if they go,” with Lleucu still listening intently.   

"Now I have to go to work"

Now Cai has to go to work 

She does not like what she has heard

Lleucu seems very downhearted.

"Anita and I are not speaking"

As they sit in the deli, Diane tells Kelly, “I dont know what you expect me to do – Anita and I are not speaking at the moment.”

"You need to forget about this stupid feud!"

“You need to forget about this stupid feud now,” Kelly replies, “Because Auntie Anita needs a friend.”   

"Why would I do that?"

Diane demands why on earth she would do that and Kelly urges her, “You know as well as I do that she’s acting really weird – she’s not the Auntie Anita we all know and love, is she?   She’s cagey, all right?   She’s avoiding my questions – 

"Siôn was answering for her"

“Siôn was answering for her – and then she didn’t want to tell Ieuan about the accident.”

"Do you think they're having an affair?"

“Didn’t she?” Diane muses, “Do you think they’re having an affair – Anita and Siôn White?   Rekindling an old flame and all that?”   Kelly considers that it would be better not to jump to conclusions, and was actually worried that she was having a breakdown.

"Why would she drive to Y Felin?"

“Why would she drive to Y Felin if she was having a nervous breakdown?” Diane demands;  

Kelly maintains that it sort of makes sense, because she passes Y Felin on her way home.

“She acted exactly the same when she had that fling with Colin years ago – do you remember?   Right, let’s go to Y Felin to see Siôn,” Diane proposes, but Kelly points out that she is working and after that is babysitting Ifan.

"Jason's ill – stomach bug or something"

“Jason’s ill – stomach bug or something –  I don’t know,” says Kelly, and in that case Diane will go to Y Felin on her own.   

"I shall find out what's going on!"

She is determined to find out what is going on.

"What would you like with your fish fingers?"

Jinx is asking Gabriel what he would like with his fish fingers;  “Peas or beans?” 

Gabriel does not care

but the boy is too busy drawing with marker pens to answer.   

"That's Mami, you and Seren, is it?"

“That’s Mami, you and Seren, is it?” Jinx wonders, 

Now he starts with a red one

“Why don’t we get another colour – a red one – I’d better make a start on those peas.”

"How can you translate bring things like that?"

Lleucu comes quietly downstairs and surprises Siôn;  “How can you translate boring things like that?” she demands;  she is told that she almost gave Siôn a heart attack.   

"Fancy going for a walk to the village?"

“Fancy going for a walk to the village?” she suggests, but he has to finish his work first.

"Why doesn't Dad want me to come and live with him?"

“Why doesn’t Dad want me to come and live with him?” she wants to know.   Siôn maintains that he is only thinking of Lleucu.   “But I don’t want to go to Dubai – it’s horrible – you can’t do A-level Welsh there.”

"You should concentrate on GCSEs first"

Siôn advises that she should concentrate on her GCSEs first.   

"Will you try to persuade Dad?"

“Yes – and I talked to the head this morning and he’s happy for me to do them in Cwmderi.   See – I’ve thought of everything!   Will you please try to persuade Dad to let me stay?”

"This is a matter between you and your parents"

Siôn abdicates any responsibility, stressing that this is a matter between her and her parents.   “Is there anything to eat here?   

"I'm literally starving!"

“I’m literally starving” she insists and Siôn objects to her use of English words, demanding what has happened to her Welsh.

“It’ll get worse if I go to Dubai!” is her response.   

"Nice one, Siôn!"

Siôn will warm up some cawl for the two of them and she sarcastically comments, in English, “Nice one, Siôn!”

She continues with his translation

While he has gone she takes a look at the translation he is doing on the laptop and continues with it.

 

Gabriel has been doing some graffiti . . .

Gabriel is still equipped with his red marker pen when the food is ready and Jinx finds that the child has been drawing all over the table.   

. . . for which he is told off

“It’s important for you to know that we draw on paper, OK?” Jinx reprimands him, 

"Not on the table, or the seat"

“Not on the table, or the seat, but only on the paper.”

Dani disapproves

Dani comes in and witnesses this, but she does not like Jinx’s tone;  

"Do you want to come upstairs with Mami?"

“Are you OK, love?   Do you want to come upstairs with Mami?”   She will not listen to Jinx’s explanation.

"What are you doing?"

When Siôn brings in the cawl, he is concerned it to see Lleucu working at his laptop and demands what she is doing.   “Having a go at this translation business – 

"What would you put for 'premises'?"

“what would you put for ‘premises’?   ‘Mangre’ or ‘Adeiladau’ or what?”

"To be honest, it's very good . . ."

He points out that is his work, but she points out that she was just trying to help, then he discovers out that what she has done is good;  “To be honest, it’s very good;  ‘Mangre’ is acknowledged by the society in this context, 

". . . you've done a decent job"

“but you’ve done a decent job.”

"My Welsh isn't as bad as you think!"

“There we go – my Welsh isn’t as bad as you think,” points out Lleucu;  as she goes upstairs, there is a knock at the door and Diane comes in.

"Where is she, then – Anita?"

“Well, where is she, then?” she wants to know, “Very cosy –where is she, then – Anita?   

"There's no point trying hide it any more"

“There’s no point trying to hide it any more.”

"Are you insinuating we're having a relationship?"

Siôn realises that she is insinuating that he and Anita are having a relationship;  “I don’t just think it,” she continues, so he demands what on earth gave her that idea.

"What's that, then?   Scotch mist?"

Just then Anita arrives at the house and Diane knowingly enquires, “What’s that then?   Scotch mist?”   

Anita is rather disconcerted

Anita and Siôn look at each other.

Dani cleans Gabriel's doodles

As Dani scrubs the table she complains to Jinx that it is not his job to discipline the children, so he asks what is his job and she snaps, “Nothing!”

"But it's not my place to discipline them?"

“OK – so it’s fine for me to spend time with them, play with them, but it’s not my place to discipline them?   But we live together, Dani.”   She regrets asking him to babysit and he does not understand the problem.

"I don't need your help to bring them up"

“I don’t need your help to bring them up,” she emphasises, “We’ve got a routine – I know them best – it’s my burden to carry – no-one else’s.   

"I want a boyfriend, not a father for the kids"

“Jinx, it’s a boyfriend I want, not a father for the kids.   Where are you going?”

"Getting out of the way"

He replies that he is getting out of the way and walks out of the house.

"Who are the flowers and chocolates for, then?"

Diane continues, “Who are the flowers and chocolates for, if they’re not for Siôn?   That’s what I can’t understand.”

"And what's it got to do with you?"

Anita angrily replies, “And what’s it got to do with you?   That’s what I can’t understand.   When Diane maintains that they are friends, Anita reminds her, “I don’t think so – last time I saw you, you called my partner a clown!”

Lleucu has just come downstairs . . .

Lleucu has just come downstairs 

. . . and is presented with the flowers

and Anita demonstrates that the flowers and chocolates are for her, “Not that it’s any of your business!”

Diane demands who Leucu is, and is greeted by a voice behind her; 

"Don't say you haven't heard about the accident"

Anita snarls, “Don’t say you haven’t heard about the accident.   Well, I’m fine – thanks for asking – Diane.”

Lleucu maintains that there was no need for the flowers and chocolates;  Diane is rather deflated that there is in fact no affair between Anita and Siôn.   “So why are you acting so oddly?” she asks.

Anita recommends that she should go home and mind her own business.   

"Ooh – that would be lovely, Siôn!"

Siôn enquires whether anyone would like some cawl, which causes great excitement on Anita’s part.   Diane looks very askance at this 

"Bye, Diane!"

and Anita wishes her goodbye, so she thinks it wise to leave.   

"Yeah – this is a weird place"

This appears to reinforce Lleucu’s impression that Cwmderi is a rather peculiar place.

"You've done a good job here, boy"

In the Deri, Rhys brings over drinks for himself and his father;  Hywel has been studying the business plan and is very impressed.   “You’ve done a good job – I haven’t seen such a good business plan for a while,” he says, “There’s a bit of work to do on it, but I’m sure I can find some assets to help you.”

"You're not serious?"

Rhys cannot believe that he is serious;  

"You're the only family I've got and I love you"

“Yes – you’re the only family I’ve got and I love you.”  

"There's no need to get all weird, Dad"

Rhys tells him that there is no need to get all weird. Hywel proposes a toast, 

"Llywelyn and his very proud father!"

“To Llywelyn and his very proud father!”

Anita thinks about Dubai

Around the table at Y Felin, Anita is imagining, “All those grand hotels, the swimming pools, sunshine all the year-round – and you never know, 

"You might fall in love with a millionaire's son!"

“you might fall in love with a millionaire’s son!”   

Lleucu does not seem to be impressed by any of that, but Anita would love to go out and live in Dubai;  

"I could be anyone I wanted out there . . ."

“I could be anyone I wanted out there – 

". . . without have every Tom, Kelly and Diane sticking their noses in!"

“without having every Tom, Kelly and Diane sticking their noses in!   If I were you good girl, I’d get far away from Cwmderi, 

"This place is horrible!"

“because this place is horrible!”

"You're overreacting a bit, Anita"

Siôn accuses her of overreacting;  

"I don't think I am!"

she responds, loudly, “Am I?   Because I don’t think I am!”   

"Sorry about that . . . "

Then she apologises for her outburst, explaining that she is a bit fed up 

". . . I'd better go now"

and now had better go.   

"Could I have a lift to the village, please?"

“Could I have a lift to the village, please?” Lleucu asks her, “No offence – but it is a bit boring here.”   Anita warns her that she is still a bit nervous on the road after what happened yesterday, but Lleucu is not in a hurry.   

Siôn detects that something is wrong

She goes upstairs for her bag. 

In the Deri, Cheryl asks Kelly if she is OK;  after initially replying that she is, she continues, “Honestly,  I’m worried about Auntie Neet – 

"And I'm still waiting for Jason's money"

“and I’m still waiting for Jason’s money.”

Cheryl is outraged that Kelly is still waiting.   “But you know what?   

"If Rhys buys Tomos ac Ellis I'll have job security"

“If Rhys buys Tomos ac Ellis I’ll have job security.”   

"You've been patient enough with Jason"

She is told that she has been patient enough with Jason, but appreciates that she cannot be too pushy.   

"I know what stress can do to Jason"

“I know what stress can do to Jason – and I won’t be responsible for that.”

Cheryl recommends that she should look after herself;  

"You need to contact a solicitor"

“From where I’m standing, you have no choice but to contact a solicitor.”

Dani awaits Jinx's return

Dani is sitting on the sofa when Jinx returns;  she asks if he wants to talk, 

He is not very communicative

but he does not.   

"I'm just trying to protect the children"

“Jinx,” she begins, “I’m sorry – I’m just trying to protect the children.”   

Jinx says nothing

He does not reply.

"Are you sure you've got enough sweets there?"

As they come out of the shop Anita asks Lleucu, “Are you sure you've got enough sweets there?”   

"The TrawsCymru bus is like a tortoise . . ."

She is told that the TrawsCymru bus takes all day – it is as slow as a tortoise, 

". . . almost as slow as you!"

“Almost as slow as you,” laughs Lleucu.   Anita enquires if she has to go back tomorrow;  

"Your father could drive you up there"

if she waited until the weekend, her father would surely drive her up there.

“I haven’t asked, but he’s busy with work and things – I think I’m in the way here a little bit.”   Anita does not think that is true.

"There's not much point waiting until tomorrow"

“Actually, there's not much point waiting until tomorrow, is there?   I could catch the next bus,” Lleucu suggests, 

"What would your father think?"

but Anita wonders what her father would think.   “I’ll phone him – and Mam is hassling me to go home, as well, so I’d better go.”   Anita hopes that she has a safe journey.

"Sorry for frightening you"

“It was nice meeting you,” she tells Anita, “And sorry for frightening you!”

Anita receives an unexpected hug

She gives Anita a hug and as she walks towards the bus stop, adds, “I think it’s cool that everyone knows everyone’s business here.   

"It shows people care about you"

“It shows that people care about you, doesn’t it?”   

Anita ponders her wise words

This makes Anita think.

"The kids have been through loads"

Dani continues to explain to Jinx, “The kids have been through loads – people in and out their lives.   It’s been really hard  and I don’t want them to get too dependent, you know, in case . . . 

"Perhaps I'll want to end things one day"

“I’m not expecting you to promise that you’ll never leave, because I know things change.   Perhaps I’ll want to end things some day.”

"Do I need to be worried about that?"

He asks whether he should be worried about that 

"If the day should come when we don't work . . ."

and she goes on, “What I’m trying to say is, if the day comes when we don’t work, 

". . . I don't want it to affect the children"

“I don’t want it to affect the children.   Jinx, I’m trying to be honest with you, so that you understand.”

"I do understand, Dani"

He confirms that he does understand.

Anita makes a phone call

Now Anita is in the Deri;  she gets out her phone and dials a number.   

"Hiya, Darren – are you OK, love?"

“Hiya, Darren,” she says, “Are you OK, love?”

Cai walks towards the bus stop

Cai marches purposefully across the road to the bus stop, where Lleucu is waiting;  

"What are you doing?"

“What are you doing?” he asks her.   She thought that she would catch the bus to save him driving her.

"Don't be silly – stay until the weekend"

“Don’t be silly – at least stay until the weekend, so we can spend some time together.”

"What's the point if you don't want me around?"

“What’s the point if you don’t want me around?” she demands, 

"That's what you said this morning"

“That’s what you said this morning – you don’t want me to live with you, do you?”

"I haven't been very well, Monkey"

He is not sure that it would be for the best;  “Because I haven’t been very well, Monkey.”   

"At least, I want to understand"

His daughter is well aware of that – she understands, or at least she wants to understand.

“I’ve been in a very dark place,” he tells her, “And I don’t want you to see me like that if I get ill again.”

"Do you want to be a father to me or not?"

“Don’t be stupid, Dad – that’s what family is for.   The question is, do you want to be a father to me or not?”   

"Of course I do!"

He protests that of course he does, so she urges him, “Be a father to me!”

He says that he does not know how, so she agrees that neither does she know how to be daughter – 

"I want to be, if you'll let me"

but she wants to be, if he will let her.

"You always know how to wrap me round your little finger"

“You always know how to wrap me round your little finger,” he smiles, 

"So can I come and live with you?"

so again she asks whether she can come to live with him.   

Cai hugs his daughter

This time he agrees and the two of them hug in the bus shelter.
