Kelly is waiting in the Deri |
Kelly is sitting in the Deri when Rhys comes in;
"The camping trip is this afternoon" |
“Oh – they’ve summoned you as well,” she says, but he cannot stay long, as he is going on that camping trip this afternoon.
Griffiths arrives |
Griffiths arrives and glances at Eleri, who is sitting at the bar, before going over to Kelly and Rhys. When asked whether he has slept,
"I was on the flight tracker" |
he replies, “I was on the flight tracker to make sure she got to Canada OK.”
"Is this going to take long?" |
Rhys asks if this is going to take long and is told that it will not.
"I'd like to thank you for your hard work" |
“Firstly, I’d like to thank you for your patience and your hard work during this difficult time,” Griffiths begins. Kelly and Rhys look at each other as he continues,
"I might be getting sentimental . . ." |
“You’ve been a great support – I might be getting sentimental in my old age, but . . .”
Eleri comes over |
At this point Eleri interrupts as she comes across carrying a bottle; Rhys likes the look of this and tells her to leave it there. “I haven’t decided if I’m going to share it with my staff yet!” she curtly replies.
Griffiths reminds her that she was supposed to stay by the bar until he gave her nod,
"Does someone want to tell us what's going on?" |
which puzzles Rhys. “Does someone want to tell us what’s going on?” demands Kelly.
"The new owner of Tomos ac Ellis" |
“Right, I’ve asked you to come here to introduce the new owner of Tomos ac Ellis,” he reveals.
"I have a lot of ideas and big plans" |
Eleri continues that she has a lot of ideas and big plans,
This causes some concern |
which her staff are obviously not happy about.
Sioned walks along the street |
Sioned, who is looking completely different, meets DJ in the High Street and is glad to have caught him before he left. He tells her that she looks fantastic;
'I thought a change would be nice" |
“I thought a change would be nice,” she replies, “I won’t have a lot of time to go to the hairdresser’s in a few months.”
DJ is anxious that she is all right, maintaining that he does not have to go on this trip. “Of course you do – we need to make the most of our freedom while we have it.
"Our hands will be full when these two arrive!" |
“Our hands will be full when these two arrive! But please don’t be late for the scan – three o’clock on the dot.”
"I wouldn't miss it for the world" |
He assures her that he would not miss it for the world and is about to kiss her, but she deftly avoids it and tells him to go.
"So you can't say if we will have a job?" |
“You can’t say if we will have a job?” asks Rhys and Eleri answers that they will have a conversation about that next week. “She was full of big plans earlier – I’d like to know what they are,” he insists.
“I understand this is difficult,” says Eleri,
"We just need to know where we stand" |
but Kelly points out that they just need to know where they stand.
"I'm assessing different options" |
“And you will, once I’ve sorted things – but it will stay an Estate Agent. I am assessing different options to see what suits the brand.”
"Who do you think you are?" |
Rhys is becoming angry; “Who do you think you are? We’ve kept this company going!” he snarls.
"Come on, Rhys – we're going!" |
Kelly puts on her coat and urges him to come with her; Eleri maintains that he ought to listen to Kelly,
"My decision may be based on your conduct today" |
or her decision may be based on his conduct today.
When Rhys appeals to Griffiths for some backup, he regrets that the business is no longer anything to do with him.
"I'm not afraid to make difficult decisions" |
Eleri spells it out, “Tomos ac Ellis is run by a successful businesswoman now – I’m not afraid to make the difficult decisions – understand?”
"Screaming won't solve anything" |
Rhys mutters to Kelly as they leave that this is not fair, but she stresses, “Screaming won’t solve anything.”
"I was in the bank two minutes" |
Then Rhys meets his father, who tells him, “You’ll be smiling when you hear how things went at the bank – I was only in there two minutes!”
"It's too late – it's already been sold" |
It is pointed out to him that he is too late, and the business has already been sold to Eleri; “If you had just agreed straightaway – now I might not have a job.”
"You have to come, Cai!" |
Out in the street as they wait for the minibus, Mathew insists, “Cai, you have to come – you organised it!” Cai explains that he cannot; he had no choice, then hands over a piece of paper with the necessary details.
"There's only a name, address and phone number" |
“This is only a name, address and phone number!”
“I told Mike you’ll be there at six o’clock,” says Cai,
"I don't want to be responsible for everything" |
but Mathew does not want to be responsible for everything. “Once you’ve arrived and paid, there’s nothing else to do – and Siôn has agreed to keep you all in order!”
Siôn arrives, with his home-made wine |
Siôn arrives and announces that if they are lucky, they can share some of his home-made wine.
Rhys leaves the Deri |
Rhys comes out of the Deri, looking thoroughly depressed, and Siôn shouts to him, “Smile – we’re going on holiday!”
He snarls in reply, “Oh yeah – sleeping in a tent is the answer to my problems!”
"I've got nothing to say to you" |
When his father follows, Rhys has nothing to say to him.
"Did you have to sell to her?" |
Hywel angrily confronts Griffiths; “Did you have to sell to her?”
"A local woman" — from New York? |
Griffiths replies that he is willing to sell to a local woman who speaks Welsh (although Eleri could hardly be described as ‘local’), maintaining that he is ticking every box going.
Kelly answers her door to Jason, who comes in waving a letter;
"So this is how you're planning to do things!" |
“So this is how you’re planning to do things – through a lawyer who’s going to charge us a bomb! I thought we agreed we could sort this out ourselves.”
"I did warn you what would happen" |
Kelly reminds him that they have already tried; “And I did warn you what would happen if you didn’t pay.”
"I didn't have to offer you a penny!" |
He argues that he did not have to offer her a penny.
"But you did, Jase — fifty grand!" |
“But you did, Jase – fifty grand!”
"How can you be so self-righteous?" |
“You do remember that you were the one who was unfaithful?” he says, “How can you be so self-righteous?”
“You can call me whatever you want – I’m not backing down!” she informs him.
“No, of course you’re not – and I thought Sara was the stubborn one!” he snarls,
"I didn't give Sara a penny in the divorce!" |
“I didn’t give her a penny in the divorce!”
"You gambled it all away!" |
Kelly is very quick to point out, “You didn’t have anything – you gambled it all away!” He still maintains that if the mother of his child did not get anything,
"I don't see what you should get anything" |
he does not see why Kelly should.
She is quite adamant that she is not leaving this marriage empty-handed
"Hefty compensation for putting up with you!" |
and that she deserves hefty compensation for putting up with him all these years.
"Why are you being like this?" |
Jason asks why she is being like this; “Because you’re pushing me! You’re pushing me too far!
"You're too gutless to be honest with me!" |
“And you’re responsible for this mess because you’re too gutless to be honest with me!”
"I tried my best, Kelly" |
He maintains that he tried his best to sort things, but Kelly accuses him of trying to avoid things, like he always has.
"Now I understand why Sara left you!" |
“And now I understand why Sara left you!”
He glumly argues that he gave her everything; “But that still wasn’t enough,” adds Kelly.
"I hop you realise what that says about you" |
He hopes that she realises what that says about her.
"I think it says more about you, to be honest" |
“I think it says more about you, to be honest,” is Kelly’s final comment
He walks out in disgust |
as he walks out of the door.
Jinx is on his way to join the campers |
Outside, Jinx is passing with all his camping gear
"The bus is leaving in 20 minutes" |
and tells Jason the bus will be leaving in 20 minutes; Jason decides that he will go with them.
Britt looks through photos |
Britt is packing away photographs in a box when the back door opens;
"But you wouldn't answer the phone |
“You shouldn’t use that key,” she tells Colin, but he protests that she would not answer the phone.
"I don't have a lot of clean clothes" |
He does not have a lot of clean clothes and is going on the camping trip this afternoon, but she seems totally disinterested. “All right – I’ll wear my pants back to front, or buy more,” he groans, so she tells him to go upstairs and get some.
“Have you heard whether you’re going to foster Kylie on your own yet?” he goes on
"Hywel wants us out of the house" |
and she tells him that when he comes back from his camping, he will have to get his stuff, because Hywel wants them out of the house. She says that they will discuss where they are going to live another time.
"Can't we live in the flat together" |
“Can’t we live in the flat together, then?” he asks, but she does not believe that is a good idea. He goes upstairs without another word.
"We're going to be late" |
The campers are waiting outside Tomos ac Ellis for the arrival of the minibus and Mathew is worried that they are going to be late.
"Oh – the first aid kit!" |
Rhys is just approaching as Mathew suddenly announces that he has forgotten the first aid kit, so hurries back to APD to get it.
Siôn tells Rhys, “I hope you’ll be smiling when we get there,” to which Rhys replies that he will be glad to get out of this hole.
Then Jason trudges towards them and Ffion asks Mathew if he is all right.
"Are you going to be acting odd with me for ever?" |
“Are you going to be acting odd with me for ever?” she demands, “We’re going to be working together a lot if I buy Deri Fawr – so if you’re still thinking . . .”
"I don't want everyone to know" |
Mathew is quite definite that it was a mistake and he does not want everyone to know.
Rhys notices this |
Rhys is watching
"It was nothing, Ffion!" |
as Mathew insists that it was nothing,
"She does not seem to agree" |
but Ffion seems to have other ideas.
They reach their camping spot |
Time has passed, as now the campers have reached the appointed field where Mathew informs them, “There’s good news and bad news.”
"No – it's all bad!" |
Rhys is of the opinion that it is all bad. “There are showers and toilets – but . . .”
Rhys continues, “No hot water and the toilets are disgusting!” Mathew prefers to describe them as having seen better days.
"This is a chance for a digital detox" |
“Can we have our phones, to find a hotel?” Rhys demands, but Mathew is adamant that he is keeping them all until they are back on the minibus.
“This is a chance for a digital detox,” he insists
"Right, I'm having a can" |
and Jason’s response to this is to start drinking.
"There's my home-made wine" |
Colin wonders if there is anything stronger, but when Siôn says that he has home-made wine,
"Think I'll have a can" |
Jinx would much prefer a can.
Mathew proposes that they set up their tents there; “Or check into a hotel!” Rhys suggests. Mathew maintains that they are there to camp and have fun,
"Can't we put the tents closer to the toilets?" |
but Colin would rather pitch the tents closer to the toilets.
Rhys explains, “We can’t – because they’re in Mike’s garden
"He's got three Rottweilers" |
“and we don’t want to sleep there because he’s got three Rottweilers.”
"I'll kill that Cai when we get back!" |
Jinx vows he will kill Cai when they get back.
Another waitress? I hope the previous one has not left! |
In the deli, where someone else is behind the counter today, Ffion assumes that Lleucu is moving to the village permanently;
"You don't sound too sure" |
“You don’t sound too sure,” she adds.
He says that he loves having her there, but wonders what will happen if he is not a very good father; “I haven’t got a clue about teenage girls.”
"She's not just any girl, but your girl" |
Ffion reminds him that she is not just any girl, but his girl.
"I don't want her to see me the way I was last year" |
He is still concerned that he should do this properly – he does not want her to see him the way he was last year.
“As parents, all we can do is make sure they know how much we love them,” she advises him,
"Don't put pressure on yourself" |
“They don’t expect us to be perfect. Don’t put pressure on yourself – just enjoy the opportunity to spend time with your daughter.”
"A least two poles are missing" |
The problem with erecting Siôn’s tent is found to be that at least two poles are missing, so Siôn does not know what to do,
"I can't sleep in there" |
maintaining that he cannot sleep in there.
"Of course you can – just don't lift your head" |
“Of course you can – just don’t lift your head,” advises Colin, but Siôn decides to move in with Jinx.
Rhys finds the bottle of wine |
Rhys finds Siôn’s bottle of home-made wine, which came from a kit given to him by Iolo last Christmas.
"It's not matured properly" |
Colin takes the opportunity to pour out some, although it is not yet supposed to be matured properly.
"That's got quite a kick!" |
He finds that it has quite a ‘kick’.
After DJ tries some, he recommends that Iolo should buy vouchers next Christmas.
"Better get the fire started" |
As it is getting cold, Siôn proposes that they start the fire;
"You can use this as petrol!" |
“Yeah – you can use this as petrol!” DJ suggests.
Britt is searching through drawers at number 21, where she finds old newspapers
She finds a photo . . . |
and a photograph of the two of them with Kylie.
. . . marked 'The Three Amigos' |
On the back is written, ‘The Three Amigos, January 2024’.
The fire-lighting is not going well |
Siôn appears to be having no success with lighting the fire and in any case Colin is complaining that the smoke will blow right into his tent.
"Smelling of smoke is part of the experience" |
“Going home from camping, smelling of smoke is part of the experience,” Siôn informs him,
"Stick it in front of your tent, then!" |
so Colin instructs him to stick it in front of his tent, then.
"What's the problem, Colin?" |
They detect that Colin is not in a good mood and when Rhys asks for some more wine, Siôn has drunk the last of it,
"It's quite nice when you get used to it" |
commenting, “It’s quite nice when you get used to it!” Jason asks if there is any food and Colin has brought various items from the shop;
"Who brought the stove and saucepans?" |
he asks who has brought the stove and the saucepans.
"Ooh-er!" |
They reach the conclusion that no-one has thought of that.
"Bacon, sausages, eggs, beans" |
“Don’t laugh – it’s not funny – I’ve brought bacon, sausages, eggs, beans,” Colin grumbles. Siôn says that he quite likes beans out of the tin, or they can cook something on the fire.
"Put a sausage on a stick" |
“Put a sausage on a stick,” he suggests,
"You have a lot of faith in this fire, Siôn!" |
but Jinx comments that he has a lot of faith in this fire he has not managed to start yet. Rhys declares that this trip is a disaster, but Siôn disagrees;
"For someone creative, like me . . ." |
“For someone creative like me, everything is a tool – you never know, this trip may end up in a novel or a drama.”
Jinx is surprised to hear that he writes dramas; “Yes, when I feel inspired, there’s no telling what I’ll write.”
"Everything is perfect for you, Siôn . . ." |
Colin moans, “Yes, everything is perfect for you, isn’t it, Siôn? Every problem is easy to sort out.” Siôn answers that he tries to stay positive.
“Yes, of course – fair play to you –
". . . smug, middle-class bloke!" |
“because it’s easy for you, isn’t it – as a smug middle-class bloke?”
"What have I done to deserve that?" |
Siôn asks what he has done to deserve that
"Snooty, self-righteous snob!" |
and is told, “Just being you – a snooty, self-righteous snob!”
"Calm down, Colin" |
Jinx urges Colin to calm down, so he is the next in Colin’s firing line.
"Some hippy Gog telling me what to do!" |
“Don’t you start! The last thing I want is some hippy Gog telling me what to do, while playing Kumbaya on the guitar and showing me how to recycle!”
He kicks over the cool box |
Then he kicks over the cool box.
Jinx has had enough of this |
Jinx picks up his guitar and declares that he is really glad he came. Mathew attempts to convince them that they are there to have fun.
"Hey, that's my bottle!" |
Rhys has found a bottle of wine which DJ brought and pours himself some,
Siôn seizes the bottle |
then Siôn demands the bottle.
Colin creeps into the tent |
Meanwhile Colin has put on his coat and creeps into the tent alongside Jinx.
"I've never played that song!" |
“I quite like Kumbaya,” he says, but Jinx stresses that he has never played that song on the guitar. “Sorry, Jinx – things have just been a bit . . . I feel like life is very unfair at the moment, you know?
"Now I'm about to lose Britt as well" |
“A couple of weeks ago I had a sister, a foster daughter – and now I’m about to lose Britt as well.”
"You don't deserve any of that, Colin" |
Jinx agrees that he does not deserve any of the things that have happened to him.
Colin concedes, “And you didn’t deserve what I said either –
"I meant every word I said about Siôn!" |
“but I meant every word – every syllable – that I said to Siôn White! I’m not apologising to him!”
"Tents are not sound-proof!" |
Then they hear a voice from outside, “For your information, tents are not sound-proof!” Mathew tries to dissuade Siôn, pointing out that Colin is drunk. “But he’s sober enough to apologise to Jinx!” Siôn goes on
Colin squares up to Siôn |
and Colin clambers unsteadily out of the tent to confront him.
Mathew stands between them, instructing them that they are going to sort out this once and for all.
"This is just jealousy!" |
Siôn maintains that this is jealousy, but Colin is adamant, “I’m not jealous of him! No matter how many problems mount up for me,
"I wouldn't want to swap places with you!" |
“I wouldn’t want to swap places with you!
Now DJ wades in with, “Well, his luck is about to change – if you call jumping into bed with Eileen, luck!”
"You and Eileen?" |
Rhys laughs at the suggestion of Siôn with Eileen
"We're just friends" |
and is told that they are just friends.
"Friends with benefits, is it?" |
“Friends with benefits, is it?” DJ continues,
"Like Maya and Sioned?" |
but Siôn compares the situation to Maya and Sioned, something which DJ takes very personally.
"Don't say her name again!" |
“Don’t you say her name again, do you understand?” he threatens.
"Who – Maya or Sioned?" |
Siôn asks whether he means Maya or Sioned
DJ lets loose a powerful punch . . . |
and is swiftly rewarded by a hefty punch,
. . . which floors Siôn |
which lands Siôn on his back, clutching his face.
Jason goes in search of his phone |
While all this excitement is going on, Jason crawls into the tent where all the phones are contained in a plastic box. One of them appears to be sounding;
Colin's phone is ringing with a call from Britt |
it is Colin’s phone with a call from Britt. Jason ignores it and finds his own phone, then creeps back out, unnoticed.
Kelly is composing a text . . . |
. . . but then deletes it |
‘I hope you’re OK. Sorry about earlier. Didn’t mean what I said.’ Then she thinks better of it and deletes the message.
Jason finds a secluded spot . . . |
Jason checks to make sure he is not being watched, then, hidden between two tents, takes out his phone and is about to begin playing a roulette game.
. . . and revisits his gambling addiction |
He thinks for a moment, then sets the wheel spinning.
