Cai goes to answer the door

There is an urgent knocking at the door of Y Felin and Cai goes to answer it.

Anita is in a terrible state . . .

He finds Anita in a state of considerable panic;  “She stepped out in front of me!” she shouts, “I didn’t have a chance to stop!”

He tries to calm her down and discover what she is talking about;

. . . and is fairly incoherent

“I don’t know – I don’t know!” she squeals, “There was a noise in the car and I . . .”

"I thought I'd surprise you, Dad"

Suddenly Lleucu comes in through the open door and surprises both her father and Anita.   “Lovely to see you, too, Dad!” she snaps, “I thought I’d surprise you – nothing’s happened – I just wanted to see you.”

"Anita's been in some kind of accident"

Her father informs her, “We have a situation here – do you know Anita?   She’s been in some sort of accident.”

"You should have stopped with me really . . ."

“Oh, yeah – I saw your car outside – you should have stopped with me, really,” Lleucu tells Anita,

". . . but it was my fault"

“But it was my fault – I had these earphones in and I wasn’t looking where I was going, so I’m the one who should say sorry.   It’s all right – I’m all right, honestly!”

Anita is totally confused

Anita appears bemused by the whole thing.

Mathew prepares for his date . . .

Mathew is making some last-minute adjustments to the ambience of the flat and plays some suitable music;

. . . and now all is ready

he opens the bottle, ready for his meal with Eleri.

"You could have killed her!"

At Y Felin, which appears to have had a recent makeover, Cai is furious with Anita;  “You could have killed her!”

"She was going as slow as a snail"

Lleucu protests that Anita was going really slow;  “As in, like a snail – I stepped out into the road and she didn’t see me.”

"You shouldn't be driving if you can't see properly!"

Cai shouts that it does not matter;  Anita should not be driving if she cannot see properly, then suspects that she may have been drinking.

“Oh, Dad!” Lleucu intervenes, but Cai continues to insist that Anita is not fit to be driving,

Now she is in an even worse state

which causes her to panic even more.

"Just breathe slowly"

Lleucu springs to the rescue, advising Anita, “Just breathe slowly,”

"What's going on down here?"

and at that moment, Siôn appears from upstairs, wondering what is going on.

"Ready for your meeting with Mathew?"

Eleri emerges from the Deri, carrying a bottle, and encounters Jason, who asks if she is ready for her meeting with Mathew;  he says that he is crossing everything for her.

"It's not often I don't get what I want"

“Don’t worry,” she confidently predicts, “It’s not often I don’t get what I want.”

"Text as soon as he agrees"

He wants her to text him as soon as Mathew agrees.

Siôn has brought Anita back to the village

Siôn arrives with Anita, having driven her from Y Felin;  he asks if Ieuan Griffiths is still in the Deri.   Eleri replies that he is not and Anita objects to Siôn holding on to her.

Anita barges into Eleri . . .

As she pulls away from him, she barges into Eleri, who drops the bottle on to the ground,

. . . who is sprayed with the bottle's contents

smashing the bottle in the process.

Kelly is concerned about Anita

Kelly is watching from the door of the Deri and is concerned for Auntie Anita;  “I would be all right if people would stop jumping out in front of me!” she snarls and the three of them go towards number 7,

Eleri is in a slight mess

leaving Eleri rather wet and bedraggled.

"I'd better take you to Glangwili"

Cai is rather overdoing his concern for his daughter, but she continues to insist, “Dad, I’m fine!”   He is determined to take her to Glangwili hospital, as she might have concussion.

"Can we just forget about this?"

“I didn’t hit my head – can we just forget about this?   I haven’t seen you for ages.”

"Have you argued with your mother?"

He demands why she has suddenly turned up;  “Have you argued with your mother or something?”   She suggests that they could have a takeaway, because she is starving and he agrees.

Mathew does his best to get the wine out

At the shop flat, Eleri has changed out of her wine-soaked clothes and Mathew says he has scrubbed the bottom of her trousers, but they still need another soak.

"You're a real handyman"

“You’re a real handyman,” she comments, as she stirs the pan on the hob;  he is concerned that she does not trust him to do the cooking.   She tastes the food and determines that it needs some more salt.

“Who’s the cook – you or me?” he asks

"Two heads are better than one"

and she replies that two heads are better than one;

"Yes, it does need more salt"

he agrees with her evaluation that it does need more salt.

“We make a good team,” she goes on, “We’re very similar, you and me.

"You're honest, you're savvy . . .'

“You’re successful in what you’re doing – you’re honest – you’re savvy –

". . . you're really handsome . . ."

“you’re really handsome.”   That makes him laugh,

". . . and we're going to make great business partners"

as she adds, “And we’re going to be great business partners, too.”

"Jason's going to sell his share of APD to me"

Now he is looking more serious as she informs him, “Jason’s going to sell his share of APD to me.”

"Why did you just drive off?"

At number 7, Kelly exclaims, “I just don’t get it – why did you drive off?”

"She'd just had a fright"

Siôn explains that she had just had a fright.   “And where’s Ieuan?   I thought he’d phoned you to fetch him.”

"I don't know why you're cross-examining me"

Anita answers that she was on her way back to the village when the accident happened;  “I don’t know what you’re cross-examining me.”

"For drying out loud, Auntie Neet!"

“For crying out loud, Auntie Neet – you’ve just knocked someone over, mind!” Kelly squeals, which again reduces Anita to tears.   “I’m trying to get the sequence of events straight in my head,” Kelly continues, “Where’s Ieuan now?”

"Why are you folding my clothes?"

Anita does not know, but gets out of her chair and starts folding Kelly’s washing;  “Auntie Neet – why are you folding my clothes?” she asks and is told that they are a mess;  the single life does not suit Kelly.

Siôn is getting worried

Siôn by this time has serious concerns about Anita.

"Don't say  word to Ieuan about this"

“I’d appreciate it if you didn’t say a word to Ieuan about this – he’s got enough on his plate as it is –all right?”

"He should have talked to me first"

Mathew is not at all happy with what he has just heard;  “He should have talked to me first before considering selling.   When did he decide to sell?”

"From the accounts, it seems to be very successful"

Eleri replies that it was about couple of weeks ago and the reason she did not say anything was because she wanted to make sure it was a wise business decision for her.

“From the accounts, it seems to be a very successful business,” she concludes.

"He showed you the accounts?"

Mathew is outraged that she has been shown the accounts;  she explains that Jason would have to show them to any potential buyer.

"Its the only way he can raise the money for Kelly"

“He’s convinced this is the only way he can raise the money for Kelly.”

"He should have talked ton me  first!"

“But he should have talked to me first, before selling his share to you!” Mathew insists.

'Do you want someone like that as your partner?"

“Do you really want someone like that as your business partner?” Eleri enquires, “He’s a nice man – but he isn’t very dependable.   If you can’t afford to buy his share, well, I think I’m your best option – you can’t deny you like my company.”

"We've only know each other for two  months"

“Eleri, we’ve known each other for what – two months?” says Mathew.    She points out that is two months longer than most people showing an interest in APD

"It will be fun, Mathew!"

and predicts that it will be fun.   Mathew doubts that,

She uses her feminine guile on him"

but she moves in for a kiss to convince him.

"And if you sell me a bit of your share too . . ."

“And if you sell me a bit of your share, too, we’d be equal partners of APD,” she suggests.

"I don't want to sell my share!"

He smiles and resolutely announces that he does not want to sell his share.

"I'll give you an extra £10,000"

She maintains that money is not a problem and promises that she will give him £10,000 over the asking price;  “That’s how much faith I have that us two, together, will make APD a huge success.”

“Well, if Jason . . .” he begins,

"You won't regret it, Mathew"

but she assures him that he will not regret it

She continues 'persuading' him

and kisses him again.

"Pys Melyn?"

“‘Pys Melyn’?” says Cai, “Isn’t that what you gogs call sweetcorn?”   His daughter is very surprised that he has not heard of ‘Pys Melyn[a Welsh band] and wonders if he has been living under a rock.

"She gave me a huge row"

“Anyway, the point is, Mam didn’t want me to go to the ‘Pys Melyn’ gig and she gave me a huge row when I got back.”

"So you decided to run away"

“So you decided to run away without saying anything,” her father summarises;  Lleucu new exactly what her mother would say.   Cai suggest that she could have sent a text or voicemail, but then learns that no one leaves them these days – voice notes perhaps.

“Sorry for being so old-fashioned,” he says, “I want to check if your phone’s working properly, too.”

"It was a dodgy signal"

Lleucu puts that down to a dodgy signal.

"Youngsters like to take selfies"

He takes his phone out, remarking that youngsters like to take selfies these days,

This is his selfie

and captures the two of them.

"Have you seen Anita anywhere?"

Griffiths comes across the road, asking Cai if he has seen Anita anywhere.

"Lleucu's lucky to be alive"

“Yes, I have – Lleucu’s lucky to be alive after what she did!” is the angry reply;

Anita comes out of number 7 . . .

at that moment Anita is just leaving number 7, but when Ieuan approaches,

. . . but soon retreats again . . .

she retreats back inside

. . . and shuts Ieuan out

and slams the door.

"Can I come and live with you?"

As she watches this scene, Lleucu remarks, “Although Cwmderi’s completely bonkers, can I come and live with you?”   Cai appears rather taken aback by this request.

Eleri has 'pulled out all the stops'

In the shop flat, Eleri appears to be having her wicked way with Mathew, but decides that it is best if she leaves.

"I've got paperwork to sort out"

“I’ve got paperwork to sort out, haven’t I?”

He protests that they have a lot to talk about, but she wonders what is the problem;

Eleri has it all worked out

“Jason and I have agreed on a price and I’ve said I’ll give you £10,000 on top of the asking price for 17% of your share.   The details will be in the e-mail I’ll send you within the hour.

[Mathematical note:  Mathew 66.67%, Jason 33.33% — if Eleri gets Jason’s 33.33% plus 17% of Mathew’s share, she will have 50.33% – a controlling share.   Mathew will only have 49.67%]

"I'll come over first thing tomorrow"

“I’m not one to hang around and wait for things to happen, Mathew – I’ll come over first thing tomorrow with the documents to be signed, so we can make everything official.   Thanks for tonight,”

"I've enjoyed your company"

and she kisses him again;  “I’ve enjoyed your company.”   Mathew looks rather confused by the whole episode.

"Is anyone going to  tell me what's going on?"

Ieuan has managed to get inside number 7 and demands, “Is anyone going to tell me what’s going on?   I’ve been waiting for you to pick me up for ages.”

"I was having a chat with Kelly"

Anita comes up with the weak excuse that she came in for a chat with Kelly;  “About things,” she unconvincingly maintains,

"There's nothing to understand, is there, Kelly?"

“There’s nothing to understand, is there, Kelly?”   Kelly and Siôn both remain silent

and Griffiths is puzzled as to why Siôn is actually there.

He replies that he is not sure himself and will leave them;  he tells Anita to look after herself.

"Can we just go home now, please?"

“Can we just go home now, please?” Anita asks Ieuan,

Ieuan still does not know what has happened

who is looking completely puzzled.

The state of Bryntirion is deteriorating

Jason is dozing on the sofa, with the house seeming to be in a rather untidy state, when there is a knock the door;

Mathew is not in a good mood

he discovers that it is Mathew.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

“Why didn’t you tell me you’d sold your share of APD to Eleri?” he demands.

As Jason turns off the television,

"Date night went welll, then?"

he asks, “So the date night went well? and Mathew realises that he knew about that as well.

"What exactly have you been talking about?"

“What exactly have you and Eleri been talking about behind my back?” Mathew wants to know, “She’s under the impression that she’s going to be an equal partner in the business with me.”

"I didn't promise anything"

Jason stresses that he did not promise anything, but simply discussed his side.

"You shouldn't have even done that"

“You shouldn’t even have done that!” Mathew shouts,

"I need to be there to make these decisions!"

“I need to be there to make these decisions!”

"Did you come to any agreement?"

Jason is eager to discover whether they came to any kind of agreement in the end – and gains the impression that they did not.   He tells Mathew, that he is sorry, admitting that he should have explained things to him and not to Eleri, but he could not find anyone to babysit Ifan.

"Just stop with these excuses!"

Just stop with these excuses!” snaps Mathew as he leaves the house.

"Wait, Anita!"

Anita and Ieuan hurry across the road to Anita’s car, with Ieuan still demanding what is going on.

"Has something happened?"

They get into the car and he asks, “Has something happened?”

"You'll have to drive home, Ieuan!"

She replies that he will have to drive home, but he is well aware that he is over the limit.

She grabs her bag and declares that they will have to call a taxi;

"I'll phone Brian"

“I’ll phone Brian – his number is in my phone.”

"What is wrong, then?"

Ieuan cannot understand why, as she has not been drinking;  “So what is wrong, then?”

She bursts into tears

Once again she dissolves into tears.

That place is definitely different

As they return to Y Felin, which indeed has had significant structural changes, Lleucu is still going on about ‘Pys Melyn’ and invites her father to listen to some of their music on her phone.

♫ "Cwmderi, Cwmderi – the only place for me!" ♫

She persuades her father to start dancing to the music, and sings, “Cwmderi, Cwmderi – the only place for me!”

"I'm serious about living with you, Dad"

She repeats that she is serious about living with him,

"What does your mother think about it?"

but Cai wants to know what her mother thinks about it.

"I don't care!"

“I don’t care – you’re one of my parents as well – and we don’t know each other, do we, not really?   We face time every now and then – with Mam there, as a shadow – it’s not the same, is it?   How are you these days, anyway – after everything?   Are you coping?”

He replies that he is fine and tells her not to worry about him;

"It's so nice to see you, Monkey!"

“It’s so nice to see you, Monkey!” he says, hugging her.

"Is there a party going on?"

As they begin dancing again, Siôn walks into the house and it assumes that a party is going on.

"Haven't you heard of 'Pys Melyn', Siôn?"

“Haven’t you heard of ‘Pys Melyn’, Siôn?   Where have you been?” demands Cai.

Eleri celebrates a successful scheme

Eleri is sitting outside the Deri, with a drink, when Jason comes across the road and notices her.   “I take it you want to thank me,” she says,

"Thank you for trying"

and he does indeed thank her for trying.

“No, I’ve sorted things,” she smugly announces,

"You're looking at APD's new business partner"

“You’re looking at APD’s new business partner!”

"I think you've misunderstood"

“I don’t think so – I think you’ve misunderstood,” replies Jason, but she is utterly convinced that she and Mathew understand each other and that  he is happy to sell.

"Mathew's just been to see me"

“Mathew’s just been to see me – he didn’t sound very happy to me,” Jason informs her

This is not what she had planned

and her attitude changes;  she demands whether he wanted something.

"We still have a deal, haven't we?"

“I wanted to check that we’re both on the same page,” he says, “We still have a deal, don’t we?”

The conniving Eleri sneers, “You think I want your third?”   Jason was under the impression that she wanted to help him, and she describes him as,

"I want half the business or nothing!"

“More naïve than I thought – because I want half the business or nothing!”   He realises where this leaves him.

Cai proposes that he will make up a bed for his daughter and Siôn points out that no one has slept there since Iolo and Greta went away.

"Sorry I made such a scene"

Lleucu comes downstairs in her pyjamas;  she apologises to Siôn for just landing there and making such a scene.

"You're welcome here any time"

“You’re welcome here any time, love, of course,” he assures her, as he goes upstairs.

"You're hiding something, Monkey"

“OK, Monkey – I know you too well – you’re hiding something.   You can tell me,” says Cai.

"We're moving to Dubai!"

“Well, I wasn’t supposed to tell you this, but we’re moving to Dubai!” she reveals.

Eleri arrives on the doorstep

Eleri rings the doorbell of the shop flat and hands over the clothes she borrowed;  in return she is given back her clothes.

"I thought we understood each other"

“I thought we understood each other,” she begins, as he is about to close the door.

"I needed time to consider"

He also thought that, but needed time to consider it for the sake of APD;  “Earlier my mind was elsewhere.

"You knew what you wanted before you came over"

“You knew what you wanted before you came over tonight – was that the plan from the start?”

"Offering to make me a partner to sleep with me"

Eleri maintains that he has been chasing her for weeks;  “Perhaps you’re the one who knew what he wanted – offering to make me a business partner in order to sleep with me – and then you pulled the offer the minute I walked out the door.”

"You know that's not true"

He points out that she knows that is not true.

"Taking advantage of an ambitious businesswoman"

“Mathew Price, the responsible owner of APD, salt of the earth, taking advantage of an ambitious businesswoman.”

"Are you threatening me?"

He demands whether she is threatening him

"You made a huge mistake tonight"

and she replies, “Not at all – but, just so you know, you made a huge mistake tonight – good night.”
