"I'm pregnant"

Finally, Sioned admits to her mother, “I’m pregnant!”

"That's fantastic news, Sioned"

which Eileen regards as fantastic news.

“We’ll be one happy family again, you’ll see,” she says, but Sioned is convinced that she and DJ are over.

"DJ will be delighted when he hears . . ."

“Don’t worry about DJ – he’ll be delighted when he hears this news,” her mother continues, “Some make-up can hide that mark –

". . . and we'll forget that nonsense with Maya"

“and we’ll forget about that nonsense with Maya – because it’s not important now, is it?   All that’s important now is you and your little baby.   I’ll make you a cup of tea – everything is better after a cup of tea, isn’t it?”

Things are not that simple

Sioned is painfully aware that things are not as simple as that.

Kath is clearing up

In the Deri, where Kath is clearing up after the party, Jinx arrives;

"I thought there was an engagement party tonight"

“I thought there was an engagement party here tonight,” he remarks, looking around.   She advises that only the buffet is left and tells him to help himself.

When he asks where everyone went,

"Everyone ran out, one after another"

she answers, “I don’t know – everyone ran out, one after another – and the party was over.

"DJ walked in on Sioned snogging Maya!"

“I’ll tell you now – DJ walked in on Sioned snogging Maya!”

"Get away!"

“Get away!” exclaims Jinx in amazement

"Has Kelly been here?"

and just then Jason walks in, asking if Kelly has been there.

"It's an epidemic!"

“Don’t say she’s run away as well – it’s an epidemic!” replies Kath.

"When did you see her last?"

Jinx asks when he saw her last, and Jason says that it was this morning.

He admits that it was his fault;

"I pretended I'd forgotten our anniversary"

“I pretended I’d forgotten our anniversary today – I was trying to be clever.   I was going to surprise her with a meal in the house tonight – she didn’t turn up.”

"She might have gone to her mother's"

Jinx suggests that she might have gone to her mother’s, but Jason has already checked;

"Can I have a pint, please, Kath?"

neither Anita or Amanda have seen her.   Kath is sure that she is bound to turn up, and Jason asks for a pint.

"It's all right– I'll get it"

Jinx volunteers to pay for it;

"Yeah - OK – thanks"

Jason reluctantly agrees.

Eileen finds that Sioned has gone . . .

Eileen returns to Sioned’s bedroom with tea and scones, but there is no sign of Sioned;

. . . she is driving away from the farm . . .

in fact she is at that moment driving out of the farmyard –

with Howard watching from the shelter of the tractor.

The dogs are becoming rather restless by this time, so he calls to Kelly that Sioned has gone;

"I can't believe we'll get away with this"

“I saw her drive away – I can’t believe we’ll get away with this!”

"I'll get the rest of the dogs"

They quickly collect the rest of the dogs.

"I'm so, so sorry!"

Sioned has gone straight to the pharmacy flat to see Maya;  “I’m so, so sorry!”

"Did DJ do this?"

and Maya is shocked to see the mark on her left cheek, imagining that it was inflicted by DJ.

Sioned puts her straight;  “No, it wasn’t DJ.”

"You have to call the police"

Maya insists that they have to call the police,

"It was Mam – because I kissed you!"

but then is enlightened, “It was Mam – because I kissed you!”

"It wasn't your fault"

She assures Maya that it was not her fault and they hug –

"What are you doing here"

of course at the very moment when Delyth walks in, particularly argumentative.  “Oh, really!   What are you doing here?” she growls.

Sioned realises that she should not have come,

"Where have you been, then?"

but Maya wants to know where Delyth has been;  “With DI Lloyd.”

"I want to talk to Maya"

She instructs Sioned to go, as she wishes to talk to Maya.

"No – Sioned needs a friend right now"

Maya forbids this;  “No – Sioned needs a friend right now – and you still haven’t answered my question!   What did DI Lloyd wants that was so important that you had to walk out on a conversation about our future?”

Sioned is embarrassed

By this time Sioned is feeling very awkward,

"I'll go and get some ice"

and Maya will go and get some ice for her bruise.

Delyth looks down her nose at Sioned

Delyth looks disparagingly at Sioned.

Some food still remains

Some of the food is still left at the Deri

"Do you want me to phone Kelly?"

as Jinx offers to phone Kelly, in case she answers, but Jason rejects this;

"I don't need your help, thanks"

“I said no – I don’t need your help, thanks.”

"If she's anything like Brynmor . . ."

Kath suggests, “Do you know what?   If she’s anything like Brynmor, she’s just forgotten to charge her phone.   She’ll be back in no time – wanting to tell you the whole story.”

"Don't you worry he's going behind your back?"

“That’s what Brynmor does, is it?” responds Jason, “Don’t you ever worry that Brynmor is going behind your back, Kath?”

"It's healthy to have a few secrets"

She says that she trusts him, “And in any case it’s healthy to have a few secrets between you – you know,”

Jason is dubious about that

but Jason is by no means convinced.

Eileen comes back downstairs

Eileen rushes back downstairs and can hear dogs barking outside;

She looks out into the farmyard . .

she looks out into the farmyard,

. . . takes a key from a drawer . . .

fetches a key from the dresser to unlock the firearms cabinet

. . . gets the shotgun . . .

and takes out the shotgun,

 . . .and loads it

which she loads,

She heads outside

before heading outside.

The lorry has been loaded and the tailboard raised;

"Do you know where you're going?"

“Do you know where you’re going?” Kelly checks

"The dogs will be safe now"

and Howard assures her that the dogs will be safe now.

"And the foxes"

“And the ‘cadnos’, [foxes]” she adds,

Howard corrects her Welsh

so he corrects her that the word is, ‘cadnoid’.   “All right, Siôn White!” she snarls, and refuses a lift home in the lorry,

"I don't want to go home in a lorry full of stolen dogs!"

maintaining, “I don’t want to get home in a lorry full of stolen dogs!”

Someone is approaching

What they do not know is that Eileen is approaching, with her weapon;

"What are you doing?"

“What are you doing?” she shouts,

"Oh, here we go!"

and Howard realises that they have been ‘rumbled’.

"Put it down, Eileen!"

When he sees the gun, he urges her to put it down, but she wants to know what the dogs are doing in the lorry;  he improvises, “The hunt tomorrow – don’t you remember?”

"Don't lie – you're stealing them!"

“Don’t lie – you’re stealing them!” she snarls,

"We're taking them somewhere safe"

but Kelly intervenes to point out they are taking them to somewhere safe.

"You think you can steal my animals?"

“If you think you can come on my land, steal my animals and that I’m just going to let you do it . . .”

Eileen is becoming dangerous

She points the gun at Howard.

"Mam?   Sioned?"

Meanwhile, in the farmhouse, Huwi-John has come downstairs, calling for his mother and Sioned, but there is no reply;

Hep opens the fridge

he helps himself to something from the fridge.

"Is that gun starting to feel heavy?"

Outside in the yard, the stand-off continues;  “Is that gun starting to feel heavy, Eileen?” enquires Kelly.

"It's nothing compared to my lifetime of farming"

“Holding this is nothing compared to the lifetime of farming I’ve done,” she answers.

"Put the gun down, Eileen"

Howard begs her to put down the gun.

"So that you can steal my dogs?"

“So that you can steal my dogs?” she shouts.

"We'll just walk away – won't we, Kelly?"

He proposes that if she puts down the gun, they will walk away and everyone can forget about it.   When he calls upon Kelly to confirm this,

Kelly is made of sterner stuff

she simply says, “Nice to see you, Eileen – Howard, shift yourself.

"Every time you fill this shed with innocent little dogs . . ."

“A word of warning, right?   Every time you fill this shed with innocent little dogs, I’m going to rescue them!   I’m not going anywhere – I am always going to be here –

"A thorn in your horrible little side!"

“like a thorn in your horrible little side!   Howard, shift!”

Eileen screams at them to stop,

Huwi-John comes running towards them . . .

then Huwi-John appears, running across the farmyard and calling to his mother.

. . . and his mother is momentarily distracted . . .

She turns to look at him

. . . she accidentally discharges the shotgun . . .

and accidentally pulls the trigger,

. . . hitting Howard in the leg

hitting Howard in the leg and puncturing one of the tyres of the lorry.

Howard screams with pain and Eileen is torn between them and her son;

She drops the weapon . . .

she drops the weapon

. . . and geos to Huwi-John

and escorts Huwi-John back to the farmhouse,

Kelly wants to take Howard to the hospital

while Kelly does her best to help Howard to his feet, intent on taking him to the hospital.

"You can't drive this!"

“You can’t drive this!” he protests but she maintains that she has to try.

“Get in, quick!”

Eileen and her son return to the farmhouse

The farm gate swings shut as Eileen and Huwi-John return to the farmhouse.   The lorry engine starts.

Simon has told the DI everything

The DI is still with Simon, thanking him and pointing out that he is doing the right thing;  he hopes that is true.

"You know what's going to happen now, don't you?"

“You know what’s going to happen now, don’t you?”

DI Lloyd makes a phone call;

"I'm going to arrest Delyth Fielding and Yvonne Evans . . ."

“It’s me, sir, I’m going to arrest DS Delyth Fielding and Yvonne Evans – yes, I’m serious –

". . . on suspicion of causing the death of Laura Thompson"

“on suspicion of causing the death of Laura Thompson, now.”

A trained pharmacist should know better than this

Maya applies frozen peas to Sioned’s face to stop the swelling (although surely they should first be wrapped in a towel or something).

"OK, then – talk!"

Now Delyth wants to talk to her;

"I have to leave – tonight"

“I have to leave – tonight – for lots of reasons,” but Maya replies that is not good enough.

She has a message from Simon

A message arrives on Delyth’s phone, which she finds is from her son, advising that the police have been to see him and he admitted everything.

"I'm sorry, Maya . . ."

All she will say is that she is sorry

". . . it's over"

and hugs Maya;  “It’s over!”

With that she leaves the flat

then grabs her coat and walks out of the flat.

Maya and Sioned look at each other

Maya and Sioned look at each other.

Delyth goes out into the street . .

Delyth closes the door behind her for the last time,

. . . but someone is waiting for her

puts on her coat and walks past the alley, at the other end of which Yvonne is waiting for her;  “Do you want a lift?” she asks,

"I left you behind once before"

“I left you behind once before – I’m not going to do it again.”

They kiss . . .

They kiss,

. . . and get into the car

then go to the waiting car.

"I'm sure you'll work things out"

As Kath continues the clearing up, Jinx is sure that Jason and Kelly will be able to work things out;  “You always have in the past.”

"It's difficult if I don't know where she is"

Jason replies, “It’s a bit difficult to work things out if I don’t know where she is, isn’t it, Jinx?”   He is asked whether he will be all right tonight, or if he needs a bit of company.

"It doesn't mean you can come home with me"

“Just because you’ve bought me a drink, it doesn’t mean you can come home with me – but thank you,” Jason tells him.

"Poor dab – only married a year . . ."

Kath sighs, “Poor dab – he’s only been married a year and his wife isn’t answering the phone.”

"I am sorry about you and Delyth"

“I am sorry about you and Delyth,” says Sioned;  Maya is well aware that things were not really working out, if she is being totally honest with herself.

"I think she's got herself into some real trouble"

“Between you and me, I think she’s got herself into some real trouble – it will all come out soon, I expect.”   Sioned still insists that she is sorry.

“Is there hope for you and DJ?” Maya asks, and Sioned does not know that,

"For the sake of the baby"

imagining that they will try to patch things up for the sake of the baby, which comes as a great surprise to Maya.

“I’ve just found out,” she adds,

"Congratulations"

and is congratulated by Maya;

They hug

they hug again.

The lorry stops abruptly

Kelly has managed to negotiate her way out of the farm, but stops very abruptly,

"I'm calling the cops!"

insisting that she is going to phone the cops.

"Are you mad?"

“Are you mad?” Howard demands, but she points out that shooting someone is a lot worse than stealing.   “We were trespassing,” he reminds her.

"We just need to get our story straight"

“So we just need to get our story straight, yeah?” she replies.   He is adamant that there are to be no cops,

"His brother's a vet"

but that he is to be taken to his friend, whose brother is a vet.

"I'm not taking you to a vet!"

“I’m not taking you to a vet!” Kelly snarls, but he is in extreme pain and begs her to do so.   The lorry begins lurching along the track again.

"I'm not having the baby yet"

Maya has made a cup of tea, but Sioned insists, “You don’t have to look after me like this now – I’m not having the baby yet.”   She is asked whether she has told DJ, but Sioned cannot get hold of him.   “Perhaps it’s not meant to be.”

"You've got stuff to sort out in your own life . . ."

Maya offers her some advice;  “Forget about me, Sioned, you’ve got stuff to sort out in your own life –

". . . but I'm not talking about DJ . . ."

“but I’m not talking about DJ.   He’s OK – for a guy, but I mean your mum –

". . . you Mam is toxic, Sioned!"

“she’s toxic, Sioned.   She doesn’t deserve to be in your life.”

Sioned is in agreement with that

Sioned nods her head.

Eileen is in a terrible state . . .

Eileen sits on the sofa with Huwi-John

. . . as indeed she should be

and is in tears.

Someone is approaching Bryntirion . . .

A lorry engine can be heard as Kelly creeps back into Bryntirion

. . . where Jason is still waiting

and is surprised to find Jason still up.

"I though you'd be asleep"

“Hey, I thought you’d be asleep,” she says.

"Where have you been, Kelly?"

“Where have you been, Kelly?” he asks,

"I went to see Mam"

and when she replies that she has been to see her mother, he continues, “I phoned your mother – she had not seen you.”

“Can we do this tomorrow, please – I’m shattered,” she asks him and he agrees that they will talk about it in the morning.

"Happy Anniversary!"

As he finishes the last of his drink, he wishes her, “Happy anniversary!”

"Oh – I forgot"

and she confesses that she forgot.

"It happens when you get older . . ."

“Yes, of course you did – it happens when you get older.   Blimey, Dai has forgotten their anniversary many times.

". . . but I didn't expect you to forget the first one"

“I just really didn’t expect you to forget the first one.   But there we are, that just proves that I’m expecting too much.

"I want us to separate"

“I want us to separate.”

Kelly cannot believe that he is serious;

He removes his ring

he takes off his ring

"There's no way back from this any more, is there?"

as he tells her, “There’s no way back from this any more, is there?”

Jason kisses her on the forehead . . .

He kisses her on the forehead, looks at the ring,

. . .and tosses down the ring

then tosses it down on the table

Kelly is left alone with her thoughts

and goes up to bed.
