"I'm thinking of selling the flat"

As they walk along the road from Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion asks Cai, “Are you sure you’re all right in yourself?   The thing is that I’m thinking of selling the flat to buy somewhere bigger.”

"I wanted to keep you in the loop"

Cai is surprised to hear this and she continues that nothing is definite yet;  “It will probably take months, but I just wanted to keep you in the loop.”

"I was thinking about moving out"

He replies that he has been thinking about moving out anyway and she is anxious that he should not feel she was kicking him out.

“You’ve been very generous and I’m very grateful,” Cai assures her, “But it’s time for me to stand on my own two feet.

"I might get a little bachelor pad"

“I might get a little bachelor pad.”   Ffion will see him in school.

"Have you heard how Howard is?"

Eileen is walking past the Deri and asks Cassie, “Have you heard how Howard is?”

"Responding well to the treatment"

Cassie had phoned this morning and learned that he is responding well to the treatment.   Now Eileen wants to know if he has said what happened, and thinks that she will go and see him.

“No, he can’t have visitors – the nurse said he’s not well enough,” Cassie tells her

"Has DS Thomas spoken to him yet?"

and Eileen’s next question is whether DS Thomas has spoken to him yet.

"They must be waiting for him to recover"

“No – they must be waiting for Howard to recover, so that they can question him – and then we’ll know what’s what.”   This is exactly what is worrying Eileen.

Griffiths concludes a phone call

At Tomos ac Ellis, Griffiths is just ending a phone call

"Where's Kelly?"

when Anita comes in and asks where Kelly is;  “A day off, perhaps,” says Ieuan.   She is surprised that he does not know

"I can't keep tabs on everyone"

and he protests, “I can’t keep tabs on every member of staff, every second of every day!”

Anita reminds him that Kelly has just separated from her husband;  “Haven’t you phoned to check she’s all right?

"Perhaps she's depressed"

“Perhaps she’s depressed!”

"Perhaps she wants some peace"

He thinks that perhaps she wants some peace and suggests that he will take Anita out for lunch.

"A steak at the Glyndwr"

“A steak at the Glyndwr,” he proposes, but Anita is going to see if Kelly is all right first.

Jason arrives

At that moment Jason walks in,

"Do you have five minutes?"

asking whether Ieuan has five minutes.

"The minibus leaves at 4:00pm"

Ffion is on the phone in the deli, advising someone that the minibus leaves at 4:00pm;  “No, I haven’t booked a table anywhere, I’m sure we can have food in the hotel.”

"What are you organising?"

Sioned is at work behind the counter and asks what Ffion is organising.   “A friendly match in Aberystwyth tomorrow,” she is informed.

"Why haven't I been invited?"

“Why haven’t I been invited?” Sioned demands, as her mother comes in from the kitchen.   Ffion did not think of it and is told that Sioned would like to come and support them,

"You don't want to go there, Sioned"

but as soon as Eileen hears about this, she is not in favour of the idea.

“Why not?   Is there a room on the bus?” Sioned asks,

Sioned takes £40 from the till

as she takes the £40 deposit from the till to pay Ffion.   Eileen is very disapproving,

"Don't worry – I'll put it back!"

but is told, “Don’t worry – I’ll put the money back in the till!”

"I can't understand why you want to go"

“I can’t understand why you want to go – you can’t even play,” her mother argues.

"Do you remember how to 'have a laugh', Mam?"

Sioned replies that it will be a laugh, wondering whether her mother remembers how to ‘have a laugh’.

"After what happened last time . . ."

She is reminded that she is pregnant and, after what happened last time, she needs to be careful.

"I was careful the last two times"

“I was careful the last two times – and look what happened!” is Sioned’s response, “Anyway, I think a night away from this place will do me good.”

Cassie places something by Brynmor

In the Deri flat, Brynmor is reading the paper when Cassie comes in and puts down some papers beside him.

"I heard about what happened yesterday . . ."

He takes a look and says, “I heard about what happened yesterday –

". . . there's no need to do anything in a hurry, is there?"

“there’s no need to do anything in a hurry, is there?”

"I'm no longer welcome here"

She replies that she does not have much choice, as she is no longer welcome there;  he insists that she is welcome there.

"Eleri can be a bit . . . blunt"

“Look, I know Eleri can be – a bit blunt, but . . .”

Cassie will not argue with that

Cassie agrees with that assessment, but he continues, “Her heart’s in the right place.   She was only thinking of me and Kath.”

Cassie makes it perfectly clear, “I can’t live under the same roof as her!”

"Please reconsider, Cassie"

Brynmor begs her to reconsider and she goes on, “I’m going to tell you this as a friend – and it’s not because I hold a grudge –

"You need to have a word with Eleri!"

“I know you think the world of Eleri, but she’s playing a game.   She’s taking advantage of Kath – twisting her round her little finger – can’t you see that?   I’ve told Kath to stand up to her, but she refuses.   You need to have a word with Eleri!”

Some work is going on at Y Felin

Cai arrives at Y Felin and cannot help noticing that redecoration is going on;

"I've just made some tea"

Siôn offers him a cup of tea.   “Someone’s been busy,” Cai remarks.

"It's not quite finished yet"

Siôn answers that the place needed redecoration, but it is not quite finished yet.

"It's very . . . homely"

Cai’s verdict is that it is very . . . homely.

Siôn had not realised that there are so many different kinds of paint;  “I was up until the early hours of looking at shades and which colours go together.”

"So you're missing Iolo and Greta"

It is obvious to Cai that he is missing Iolo and Greta, but Siôn simply says that he is trying to keep busy.   “Tell me – how you find living on your own?” Cai asks him.

"The peace has given me time to think"

“Quiet – there was a lot more going on here with Iolo and Greta – and when you lived here, of course.   The house is a little bit big for one, but at least the peace has given me time to think.”

"What if I came back to live here?"

Cai wonders if that is always a good thing;  “What if I came back to live here?”

"You would consider it?"

Siôn is surprised that he would consider it, after all that happened.

“I just thought you might like some company,” Cai tells him

"Fallen out with Ffion, have you?"

and Siôn immediately suspects that Cai has fallen out with Ffion.

"No – but if you don't want me to . . ."

“No – but if you don’t want me . . .” Cai begins.   He is stopped by Siôn;   “What do you say then?” but we do not see the answer to this.

Brynmor has called a meeting

Brynmor has organised that he should sit down with Eleri and Cassie;  “I wanted to get you both together so we can sort out whatever’s going on.”

"There's nothing going on"

Eleri maintains that there is nothing going on, and Brynmor informs her that Cassie is staying there.

“No I’m not!” Cassie snarls.

"Cass is a good friend of mine"

He goes on to point out that Kath and Cassie are best friends and that Cass is a good friend of his as well – and he does not want her to move out.

"I'm sorry, Dad"

Eleri puts on her contrite look;  I’m sorry, Dad – I didn’t realise.”   He appreciates that she was just looking out for him and she continues,

"I just want you and Kath to be happy"

“I just want you and Kath to be happy.”

She flounces out

With that, she gets up and walks out of the room,

"She didn't want to hurt you"

with Brynmor apparently convinced that she was just thinking about everyone else and that she did not want to hurt Cassie.

"Yeah, right – pull the other one!"

It is evident that Cassie does not believe a word of this, but when she is asked if she thinks that the two of them can live together, for Kath’s sake,

Cassie does agree to stay

she agrees, which pleases Brynmor.

"You've done what?"

Diane is at Bryntirion;  “You’ve done what?” she squeals.

"I've done what was right, Mam"

Jason replies that he has done what is right, but she rants on, “She doesn’t deserve half of this house!

"We gave this place to you, not her!"

“We gave this place to you – not to her!”   He points out that he will still own it.

“How are you going to find the money for half of this place, without selling it?” she demands.

"What's the verdict, Ieuan?"

They hear footsteps upstairs and Ieuan Griffiths comes down to deliver his verdict.

"Nicely decorated"

“I’ve taken a few photos of the old place,” he says, “A house with plenty of space, a good location, which has been nicely decorated.”

"Thanks to Kelly!"

Here Jason interrupts to point out that is thanks to Kelly;  Ieuan continues, “I’d say its value has increased since you and Dai bought it.”

"How much?"

Diane is eager to learn what is his estimate of the value;

"£250,000"

“I would say it’s worth about £250,000.”   Jason asks if he is sure, which he is,

"Thanks, Ieuan"

then Griffiths takes his leave of them.

"Where are you going to get hold of £125,000?"

As soon as the door is shut, Diane snarls, “Now tell me– where are you going to get hold of £125,000?”

There is no reply

Jason does not answer.

Who is that young lady, wearing DJ's apron?"

As that young lady waitress is on duty in the deli, Kelly comes in after her visit to the solicitor and approaches Griffiths, who is sitting there.

"I thought you were bankrupt!

“I thought you were bankrupt,” she says, and he enquires whether it is necessary to announce it to everyone.   “Could have fooled me – enjoying an afternoon treat!” she growls.

"I'm stressed!"

He maintains that he is stressed;  “Stressed?” Kelly exclaims,

"I'm still waiting for my wages, like!"

“I’m still waiting for my wages, like!”

"Have you said anything to Anita?"

but all he is worried about is whether she has said anything to Anita.   “No, but I can’t keep your secret for much longer!   I hate lying to Auntie Anita – it’s only a matter of time until she sees the cracks.”

"What did I say about burying your he'd in the sand?"

Once again he declares that he will sort things, but Kelly continues, “What did I say about you burying your head in the sand?”

"I'll go and phone the bank now"

He is suitably repentant and agrees that he will go and phone the bank now.

"Jason owes you about £125,000"

As he is about to open the door he tells Kelly, “I don’t think you’ve got too much to worry about, financially – I’ve just been to value Bryntirion for Jason.   From what I understand, he owes you about £125,000.”

"You what?"

“You what?” Kelly exclaims, while Ieuan is glad that someone is benefiting from this divorce.

"It's less than the mess Arwen makes"

Cai comes downstairs, very impressed with the decoration of the room, but Siôn asks if he is all right with all the mess in the house.   “It’s less than the mess Arwen makes!” Cai answers.

Siôn is surprised that he would even consider coming back to live at Y Felin after what happened,

"All that is in the past, Siôn"

but Cai points out that is all in the past.

"I didn't think you would ever forgive me"

“I didn’t think you would ever forgive me.”

"I don't want to live on my own"

Cai comes clean about his motive;  “Ffion is thinking of moving house – and I don’t want to live on my own.   It helps to be around people – and I don’t want to come home to an empty house every day.”

"This house will always be a home for you"

Siôn is glad that he is, assuring him that the house will always be a home for him;

"Water under the bridge"

they agree that the past is water under the bridge, so Siôn will make a cup of tea.

"Since when can you read German?"

Cai picks up the book which Siôn has been reading and enquires, “Since when can you read German?”   Siôn confesses that he cannot – yet, but found a list of things Gwen wanted to do in her life – a sort of bucket list.

"She didn't get to do half of them . . ."

“Unfortunately, she didn’t get to do half of them,

". . . they inspired me to broaden my horizons"

“but it inspired me to broaden my horizons a little.”

Cassie is reminiscing

In the Deri, Cassie is telling Ffion, “I remember going on a trip to Llandudno with the girls, Einir Pen Dyffryn, Mari Fach and Ann Dau Glip.   I’d like to say that it was unforgettable –

"I can't remember anything about the trip"

“but I can’t remember anything about the trip.   Too much Asti Spumante, vodka and lime, probably.   Oh to be young again!”

Ffion tells her that she is still young;

"There's a spare seat on the minibus"

“And there’s a spare seat on the minibus, if you want it.”

"My rugby days are over"

Cassie sighs that her rugby days are over – not that she ever played.

"You can come and support us"

“You can come and support us – a night in a hotel, a nice meal.”

“What?   And leave this paradise?” laughs Cassie, as Eileen is obviously listening in to the conversation.   Ffion insists that it would be a chance for her to have a well-deserved break, and Cassie agrees that it is not such a silly idea;

"Put my name down!"

“Put my name down!” she says, “And remember – on these rugby trips, what goes on tour, stays on tour!”

"Sioned's seen the light about this trip"

At this point Eileen catches Ffion before she leaves;  “I don’t want to keep you, but Sioned’s ‘seen the light’ about this rugby trip – and she doesn’t want to come any more.   She’s worried about her condition – you know, her heart – she can’t play and she doesn’t drink much now,

"She would feel  bit left out"

“so I think she’d feel a bit left out.”

"Do you want me to have a word?"

Ffion is quick to point out that she will not be drinking either, and offers to phone Sioned to have a word, but Eileen does not consider that to be a good idea,

"Can I have her deposit back?"

as Sioned feels rather embarrassed.   “She did ask me to get her deposit back and tell you to give the seat to someone else.”

Ffion returns the £40

Ffion returns the £40 and asks Eileen to give Sioned her best.

Griffiths' figures do not add up

Griffiths is deploying his calculator and is not at all happy with the results it gives him;  the door opens and an official with the words ‘enforcement officer’ on his back enters.

"Ieuan Griffiths?"

“Ieuan Griffiths?” he says and hands over an envelope,

"Oh dear!"

the contents of which are not welcomed by Ieuan.

Brynmor is running errands for his daughter

In the Deri flat, Brynmor is about to run an errand to the shop for some lemon and ginger tea for Eleri;

"Are you happy now?"

as soon as he goes downstairs, Eleri demands, “Are you happy now?   You’ve got what you wanted, haven’t you?”

"Do you think I want to live under the same roof as you?"

“Do you think I want to live under the same roof as you?” replies Cassie,

"Well, you know the answer to that – move out!"

and is told that she knows the answer to that – move out.   “You’re not going to get rid of me that easily,” Cassie declares, “And you don’t fool me, either – I’ve come across your type several times.

"You're trying to take advantage of my friends"

“I know you’re trying to take advantage of my friends – and I won’t let that happen!”

"Are you threatening me?"

“Are you threatening me?” asks Eleri, but Cassie simply describes it as a word of warning;

"I shall be keeping an eye on you!"

she will be keeping an eye on Eleri, who simply chuckles and walks out.

"What if you start gambling again?"

Diane is once again badgering Jason;  “And what if you start gambling again because of all this?”

"It would-be nice if you stopped panicking!"

He points out that it would be nice if his mother stopped panicking that he is going to ‘put everything on black’ every time something goes wrong.

"It doesn't help, Mam!"

It does not help.

There is a knock at the door and as Jason goes to answer it,

"You're going to lose the house, Jason!"

Diane cautions him that he is going to lose the house if he is not careful;  “And where will that leave you and Ifan?   There’s no room for you in our bungalow.”

"The gold-digger in the flesh!"

She discovers that the caller is Kelly and sneers, “The gold-digger in the flesh!” but is told by Jason to stop it.

"I've just been talking to Griffiths"

“I’ve just been talking to Griffiths,” Kelly begins and Diane asks if she remembers who put a roof over her head when she lost the café and her home.

"And now you want to steal Jason's house"

“And now you want to steal Jason’s home from right under his nose!”

"Can we have a chat, Jase?"

Kelly would like a chat with Jason, but is angrily informed, “Say what you have to say in front of me!”

"Don't you think you need to be a bit more realistic?"

“All right!” shouts Kelly, “Half of Bryntirion?   Don’t you think you need to be a little bit more realistic?   I’m not going to jeopardise Ifan’s home.” Jason replies that Ifan will be fine.

“I am not going to be responsible for putting pressure on you, OK?” Kelly goes on, “Can you afford it or not?”

"I can't really afford it"

Jason confesses that he cannot really afford it, so Kelly proposes that they need to renegotiate and then can think of another figure.

He wonders how £50,000 sounds,

"That's too much!"

at which his mother emits a snort of derision that it is still too much.   Kelly comments that it sounds fair to her, and demands whether Jason is sure that he can afford fifty grand.

"Yes, I can"

He says that he has assets, “So, yes, I can.”   His mother obviously does not agree and shakes her head.

Kelly thanks him and leaves the house,

"Why are you doing this, Jason?"

at which Diane demands, “Why are you doing this, Jason?”

"People don't give money away to their exes"

“Doing what?” he snarls and she maintains that people do not give money away to their exes, not when they’re skint.

"I'm just trying to do what's right, Mam!"

He repeats, “I’m just trying to do what’s right, and I don’t want to fall out.”

"You're still in love with her, aren't you?"

Diane is certain that there is more to it than that, but he denies this;  “You’re still in love with her, aren’t you?”

Jason remains silent

He does not answer that.

Griffiths removes his possessions from the car

The enforcement officer escorts Griffiths to his car, and he wants to take his stuff out of it, before it is repossessed.

"Ieuan, what's going on?"

Anita is approaching from the other end of the street and is puzzled by what is going on.

Griffiths urges the man to take it away quickly, but Anita wants to know who is the man in the car.

"He's a bailiff"

“He has to take it, all right?   He’s a bailiff.”

Eleri takes an interest

By this time, a few people, including Eleri, are watching from outside the Deri.

Anita stands in front of the car

As the car engine starts, Anita stands in front of it, protesting that Ieuan’s car is not going to be taken away,

"Don't make a scene, Anita"

but he pleads with her not to make a scene, pointing out that he has no choice.

“People are looking now,” he reminds her, but she is adamant that they have made a mistake.   He explains that there is no mistake,

"You told me it was a cash-flow problem"

so she approaches him, growling that he told her everything was all right and that he only had a cash-flow problem.

"Looks like Griffiths has has  visit from the bailiffs"

Eleri seems to be taking an interest in this;  Kelly comes along and asks what is happening.   “Looks like Griffiths has had a visit from the bailiffs,” Eleri replies.

"I'm in real trouble, Anita"

Ieuan confesses, “It’s not Tomos ac Ellis that’s in trouble, but me – I’m in real trouble, Anita.”

She demands how much he owes;

"One chance to tell the truth"

“Ieuan, I’m giving you one chance to tell me the truth.”   As he does not reply, she walks away, telling him, “Right, that’s it!”

The car moves away . . .

Anita has now moved from in front of the car, so it is driven away,

. . . and Griffiths has lost everything

as Griffiths watches it – and her – leaving him.
