23 March 2023

Anita is in organising mood again

Anita is organising the seating plan for the wedding reception;  “Iolo can go there,” she says, but Kelly is taking no notice, gazing out of the window.

"Are you happy for Iolo to sit there?"

“Are you happy for Iolo to sit at the same table as Ieuan and me?”

"The Glyndwr need this by tonight"

Kelly replies that it is fine, and Anita stresses that the Glyndwr needs the plan by tonight.

"I thought you'd be a little more excited"

“That’s why we’re doing it now, isn’t it?” Kelly points out, but Anita thought she would be a little more excited, as this time next week she will be Mrs Francis.

"I haven't decided whether I'm taking his surname"

“Actually, I haven’t decided if I’m taking his surname,” is the unexpected answer.

Then Anita raises the subject of the best man;  “Is Jinx still going up north?”

"Jason's going to ask Mathew"

She is told that Jason is going to ask Mathew to be best man,

"Jinx has hurt you, hasn't he?"

and comments, “Jinx has hurt you, hasn’t he?”

"I really want him there, though"

“I’m not going to let him wreck our big day – no way!” Kelly exclaims and resumes looking out of the window.   “I really want him there, though,” she adds.

"This is where it belongs"

Out in the fields at Penrhewl, DJ suggests to Sioned  that they should cut a piece off the memorial tree and plant it at their new home.   She maintains that this is where it belongs;

"I really think it was a girl"

“I know we’ll never find out – but I really think it was a girl,” she says, and DJ is of the same opinion.

"And if she was anything like you . . ."

“And if she was anything like you when you were a little girl, we’d both be in trouble!” he jokes.   As a flock of sheep run down the field in the background, Sioned imagines her daughter running through these fields, like she did when she was young.

"Cadi was my favourite name"

“Something else I liked to do was rename all the sheep, because ‘Cadi’ was my favourite name,” she goes on, and he recommends that she should give the sheep in Ireland Gaelic names.

"You would both wrap me round your little  fingers"

“And you would both wrap me round your little fingers,” DJ says, something which Sioned does not deny;

"We would support her through everything"

she adds that the two of them would have supported her through everything.

"Is your mother afraid of losing you?"

“Do you think that’s why your mother is the way she is now?” he asks, “Because she’s afraid of losing you?”

Sioned does not reply, but he continues, “It must be difficult for her, especially with us leaving.”

"There's no reason for us to stay"

Sioned insists that there is no reason for them to stay, but he suggests that it might explain Eileen’s attitude.   “Do you want to go back and finish the packing?” he asks,

"There's something I want to do first"

but there is something that Sioned wants to do first.

He leaves her looking at the oak tree"

She looks at the memorial oak tree, whose leaves are turning brown.

"He thinks Jinx is selfish"

Anita enquires what Jason thinks about the matter;  “He thinks that Jinx is selfish –

"It's not easy, seeing your ex marry someone else"

“it’s not easy, seeing your ex marry someone else, no matter how much time has passed,” Kelly answers.

"Does Ffion really want him in North Wales?"

Anita wonders whether Ffion really wants Jinx in North Wales and wants to know what is going on.   “Nothing – I want to marry Jason,” is the reply,

"Is there a 'but' in there, Kelly?"

but Anita suspects that there is a ‘but’ in there somewhere.

“I don’t know – I had always imagined that Jinx . . . would be there,” Kelly says, and it is pointed out that sometimes things do not work the way you want them to.

"We were best friends"

“We were best friends, Auntie Neet,” Kelly begins, but her aunt is of the opinion that the crush she had on him is still lingering.   Kelly is adamant,

"No – that was just something stupid"

“No – that was just something stupid – nerves, probably.”

Anita hugs Kelly

Anita is glad to hear that and hugs her niece;

"This is going to make you a little family"

“I know you’re upset, but this wedding is going to make Jason, you and Ifan a little family, officially – that’s all that matters.”

"Yeah, you're right – as per normal"

“Yeah, you’re right – as per normal,” replies Kelly, “Do you know what?   I have to go – I have to be at the Glyndwr in half an hour to submit our final meal choices – do you want to come?”   Anita will stay and finish the table plan.

"Growing drugs in Ricky's bedroom . . ."

At Maes-y-Deri, Mark is still apologising profusely to his mother, but she cannot understand him growing drugs in Ricky’s bedroom.

". . . I just can't believe it!"

“I just can’t believe it!   After everything that’s happened, you do that.”

"I've been in a lot of pain, Mam"

He protests that he has been in a lot of pain, but she tells him, “Stop it, will you?

"It's unforgivable – I should go to the pigs!"

“I don’t want to hear your excuses.   It’s one thing to smoke it here – but it’s another to grow it up in the attic!   What you’ve done is unforgivable, do you hear?   I should go to the pigs – like the last time that you messed with drugs!”

"You wouldn't do that?"

“You wouldn’t do that?” he demands, but she assures him that she would and offers him a deal;

"Get all that stuff to the dump"

that he gets all that stuff out of the house today and takes it to the dump, before ‘Operation Julie’ raids the place.

"One more whiff of 'Wacky Baccy' . . ."

“And listen to me – if I hear a whiff of you having ‘Wacky Baccy’ again, I will go to the pigs!”

"Yeah, OK – deal"

Mark has little alternative but to agree,

Off Mark hobbles

and makes his painful progress upstairs,

Kath looks at a photo . . .

while his mother picks up a photo of her and Brynmor,

. . . and wishes Brynmor was there

and looks at it.

Tyler enters the shop . . .

Tyler comes into the shop

. . . and finds Iolo there

and finds Iolo there;  he asks for a bottle of whisky and Colin looks rather askance at him.

"You are going to pay for this one, I hope"

“You are going to pay for this one, I hope,” he snarls.

"Do you know what?   Forget it!"

Tyler changes his mind and walks out of the shop,

Tyler goes back home

crossing the road to number 7.

"Oi – I want a word with you!"

As he is about to open the door, Anita catches sight of him and shouts, “I want a word with you!   How could you?   I thought you saved my life –

"You were going to blow it up!"

“but you were outside the van with those cans of petrol – and you were going to blow it up!”

Iolo has a good vantage point, across the road

Iolo is standing in the shop doorway, watching this drama unfolding,

'I didn't realise you were in there"

as Tyler replies that he is sorry and did not realise she was in there.

"That's not the point, is i't?"

“That’s not the point, is it?   Do you have any idea how I felt, thinking I’d be burned alive?   I don’t understand why you were there – what were you trying to do?”

"I didn't want Eifion to go on holiday with Iol and Greta"

“I didn’t want Eifion to go on holiday with Iol and Greta,” is the reply, “But I went too far.”

Anita regards that as a massive understatement;

"I was almost killed because you had a vendetta?"

“So I was almost killed because you had some vendetta?”   Tyler lamely argues that he did not intend to kill anyone, but she continues, “And I heard about the stealing as well – you should be ashamed of yourself, do you know that?

“I thought you and I were friends – all those chats we had in APD – and I would feel sorry for you because you couldn’t see Greta.

"You are vile, Tyler!"

“Well, I understand why now – because you are vile – and I wouldn’t want you anywhere near her either!”

Iolo is still watching

Iolo has been watching all this from the shop, as has another bystander along the road by APD.

Tyler retreats into the house

Tyler goes into the house.

Sioned is still surveying Penrhewl

Sioned is still looking over the gate across the fields to Penrhewl when her mother appears;

"Tanks for coming to meet me"

“Thanks for coming to meet me,” says Sioned,

"It's lovely her, isn't it?"

“It’s lovely here, isn’t it?”

"Are you all packed?"

Eileen asks if she is all packed, and is told that most of it is done, although DJ needs to sort out his rugby shirts;  “I’ve told him he can’t bring them all.”

“When are you leaving?” is Eileen’s next question,

"On Sunday morning"

and is told that it will be on Sunday morning.   “Are you going to Jason’s and Kelly’s wedding?

"It's important to celebrate when we get the chance"

“It’s important to celebrate when we get the chance, isn’t it?”

"I don't want us to part on bad terms"

Sioned does not want to part on bad terms, and neither does her mother;  “What are we going to do, then?” Sioned wonders.

"Not running away to Ireland would be a start"

Eileen suggests that staying, instead of running away to Ireland, would be a start,

"I'm not running away, Mam"

but Sioned insists that she is not running away.

“We can’t build bridges if you’re in a different country,” Eileen maintains, but is accused of being dramatic.   “What will you have there that you don’t have here?

"Huwi's here, I'm here, John, the farm"

“Your roots are here – all your memories – Huwi’s here – I’m here – John – the farm.”

"Mam, you've taken all those things from me"

Sioned replies that those things do not mean anything any more;  “Mam, you’ve taken those things from me.”

“If I changed my mind, would you do the same thing?” asks Eileen,

"You can have everything if you stay in Cwmderi"

“I’ll change the will – you can have everything if you stay in Cwmderi.”

This comes as a shock

Sioned is astonished at this sudden change of mind.

"If you're here to give me hassle . . ."

Anita pays a visit to Cysgod y Glyn;  “If you’re here to give me hassle for letting Jason down . . .” says Jinx, but she assures him that she is not.

"Kelly is heartbroken, you know"

“Kelly is heartbroken, you know” she continues and produces a card, complaining that there is glitter everywhere.   “Something she made years ago – she always takes this with her to wherever she’s living.”

Jinx comments that it looks as if she made it in infant school.

"She wants to get married with her best friend there"

“You know what she’s like – she wants to get married with her best friend there,” Anita goes on,

"I'm too busy, Anita"

But Jinx again protests that he is too busy.

“Come on, Jinx – you know how happy you would make her,” Anita tells him and puts down the card;

"Don't live your life with regrets"

“Don’t live your life with regrets.”   She leaves the flat without another word

That was taken a few years ago

and he looks at the card – the pair of them, much younger.

His mind goes back to those days

He fondly remembers those times.

"Who's that at the door?"

There is a knock at the door of number 7, and Iolo’s voice asks to be let in;  after a moment’s thought, Tyler does so.

"Are you all right, Ty?"

Iolo asks if he is all right;

"Everyone hates me – apart from that, I'm great"

he groans, “Everyone hates me – apart from that, I’m great.”

Iolo apologises for mentioning the stealing in front of Mathew;  he had not intended anyone to hear.

"It's no more than I deserve"

“Don’t blame yourself – I admitted to it – it’s no more than I deserve, anyway.

"I've done horrible things"

“What Anita said is true – I’ve done horrible things, and everyone knows it now.

Will Iolo fall for this sob story?

“But I want to try and turn the corner, Iol – I’m telling the truth about the job with Garry.   It’s the only way I can set myself up and start again.”

"I want to help you turn the corner"

Iolo wants to help him turn the corner and it does not want to have to shut Greta out of his life;  “And I hate seeing you like this, Ty.”

"Where did things go wrong, Iol?"

Tyler wonders where things went wrong;  “When I left you – things were great before then –

"Look at me now – I'ma sex offender"

“I had a job, a life, a future.   Look at me now – I’m a sex offender, who doesn’t think twice about stealing,

"I should never have let you go, Iol"

“living in a village where no one likes me – and I’m on my own.   I should never have let you go, Iol – and I’ve paid for that every second since you left – I’m so sorry for everything.

"I ruined things for you and Eifion"

“I ruined things for you and Eifion – I had no right.”

"That wasn't going to last anyway"

Iolo remarks that it was not going to last anyway,

"I'd do anything to turn the clock back!"

and Tyler whines, “I’d do anything to turn the clock back!”

Iolo tells him that this feeling will pass;

"If you're serious – take the chance"

“I know you can’t change the things you’ve done, but if you’re serious about finishing the job and starting again, do it – take the chance.”

"You're not going to believe what just happened!"

As Sioned rushes back into Deri Fawr, she exclaims, “You’re not going to believe what just happened!”

Then she finds DJ is on the phone

then finds that DJ is on the phone.

“Yes, OK, thank you for calling – speak soon,” he says, in English,

"I've got the job!"

and then advises that was the head chef of ‘Café Neuf’, informing him that he has the job.

"That's fantastic!"

She is very glad to hear that and gives him a hug;  “That’s fantastic,” she says,

"Everything's falling into place now"

and DJ can see that everything is falling into place now, ready for their little adventure,

Sioned is now in a quandary

although Sioned is now torn between two opinions.

"It was the least I could do after running away"

Mark goes to number 21 to thank Colin for his help shifting the stuff;  “It was the least I could do after running away yesterday,” says Colin.

"Another of my stupid plans gone wrong"

Mark describes it as another one of his stupid plans gone wrong, and is handed a can from the fridge.

"You are going to stop this smoking, aren't you?"

“You are going to stop this smoking now, aren’t you?   You’re moving a lot easier than you were,” Colin observes, and Mark replies that to be completely honest,

"I don't think it's made much difference to my foot . . ."

he does not think it has made much difference to his foot for some time.   He has been using that as an excuse,

". . . the truth is I enjoy smoking it"

but the truth is that he enjoys smoking it.

"Well, it hasn't done you any good"

“Well, it hasn’t done you any good – look at you!” he is told, “What I’m trying to say is you obviously haven’t been yourself lately.”

"I'll try my best, Col"

Mark agrees to try his best.

"Any time you're struggling with things . . ."

“Any time that you’re struggling with things and can’t cope, remember that I’m always here to help in any way I can,” says Colin,

"You're a good mate, Col"

and Mark calls him a good mate.   “Yes, you’re lucky to have me,” Colin agrees.

Sioned returns to Penrhewl

Sioned is back at Penrhewl,

"Had a word with DJ, have you?"

where Eileen asks if she had a word with DJ;  she shakes her head and says, “I’m very grateful for the offer, but I can’t accept.”

"Don't be so stupid, Sioned!"

“Don’t be so stupid, Sioned!” her mother snarls,

"I'm not stupid!"

to which Sioned naturally objects;  “What else are you?” Eileen shouts,

"You've complained about Penrhewl for ages!"

“You’ve complained about Penrhewl for a year – now you don’t want to know!”

"DJ wants to move to Ireland"

“DJ wants to move to Ireland,” Sioned tells her,

"You're going to let a man decide your future?"

and Eileen sneers that her daughter is going to let a man decide her future.

"No – you did that a long time ago"

No – you did that a long time ago,” Sioned replies, “I was really hoping we could reconcile today!   Are you going to say something or just stand there sulking?”

Sioned storms out of the farm

As her daughter storms out of the farm, Eileen is left in tears.
