21 February 2023

"Is the pig himself going to be there?"

Tyler hurries downstairs in preparation for his visit with Greta to Peppa Pig;  Mark asks, “Is the pig himself going to be there?”

"The price I paid, I hope so"

“The price I’ve paid, I hope George, Mami and Dadi will be there, too,” is the reply, “It’s my first trip away with Greta –

"I still don't know why you smoke this stuff"

“clear this stuff up Mark, Greta will be here in a minute.   I still don’t know why you smoke this stuff.”

Mark says that he has not smoked any today, but it helps when he is in pain;

"You should see a doctor"

he is advised to go and see a doctor.   “Well, I’m going to see him today,” says Mark, “Fingers crossed I will be able to take this off and go back to work.”

Tyler has a disturbing phone call

Then Tyler receives a phone call which makes him look extremely concerned.

"They're not climbing Pen-y-Fan!"

Iolo comes downstairs at Y Felin with several bags, and his father comments, “They’re going to Peppa Pig World, not climbing Pen-y-Fan!”

"I just want to make sure they have everything"

Iolo just wants to make sure that they have everything;

“Don’t you trust Tyler, then?” Siôn wonders.

“He’s out of practice – he hasn’t seen her for a while, so I want to make it as easy as possible,” Iolo explains,

"You could go with them"

and his father suggests that he could go with them.  “No, I’ve spoken to Tyler and I want to give him a chance – and Greta is very excited.”

"Can you give me a lift to the village?"

Iolo will give Siôn a lift to the village,

"Greta, are you ready?"

and calls upstairs to Greta that they are ready to go.

"Come up"

In the flat above MFC, Garry tells Tyler to come upstairs;  when he arrives, Garry points out, “I thought I told you to meet me in the garage.”

"I can't do it today"

“I can’t do it today – Iolo has given me a chance to spend time with Greta and I can’t let him down!” Tyler protests, “I have to prove that I can be there for Greta and be a father.”   He is informed that he does not have an option.   “I can do it tomorrow,” Tyler whines.

"This contract doesn't include flexi hours"

“This contract doesn’t include flexi hours,” Garry stresses, “What’s so special about today, anyway?”

"I'm taking Greta to Peppa Pig World"

He is told that Tyler wants to take Greta to Peppa Pig World, which does not receive any sympathy from Garry.

"Text Iolo – make something up!"

“Right, text Iolo!” he says, “Make something up – you’ve done it enough times.”

"Right, we're going"

Then Garry receives a message and they quickly leave the flat, heading for the garage.

Ffion would rather be somewhere else

In the hospital Ffion and Jinx are waiting by the bedside and look at each other;  “Say something, then!” Ffion snarls at her mother,

Val is saying nothing

but Val does not seem to be in the mood to speak.

"OK, we're leaving"

“OK, suit yourself – we’re leaving – come on, Jinx.”

"Did you get hold of Nesta?"

Val suddenly shouts, “Did you get hold of Nesta?”   She is told that Nesta does not have a spare room, so she proposes to sleep on the sofa.

"She's off to Lanzarote or somewhere"

“She’s going to Lanzarote or somewhere for a week,” is Ffion’s reply, and Val rages that she is lucky that Nesta answered the phone at all, after everything that has happened.

"Your fall was nothing to do with me"

“Why are you so nasty to me?” Ffion demands, “You falling was nothing to do with me – I didn’t touch you!”

"If you hadn't called me every name under the sun!"

“If you hadn’t called me every name under the sun, I wouldn’t have tripped!” Val shouts, and attracts some attention from the staff.

Ffion mutters to Jinx, “Cow!”

"Can we just calm down, please?"

and he tries to get the pair of them to calm down.

"Arwen and I will have to go up North"

“Well, I don’t have any choice then – Arwen and I will have to go up North to look after her.   You heard the doctor – you can’t go to an empty house.”

"I don't want her near me"

“I don’t want her near me – I’ll be fine,” Val insists, but Ffion points out that it is either that or she stays in the hospital for six weeks.   Neither prospect seems very inviting to Val.

Britt is having problems

When Colin returns to number 21, he discovers Britt performing all manner of contortions in her attempts to do up the zip on the back of a wetsuit.

"Come and help me, will you?"

He looks horrified and it demands what she is doing.   “Come and help me, will you?   I can’t close this zip.”   He wonders where all the stuff came from

"It only cost me £50"

and she tells him, “From Gaynor – she said she was getting rid of it and I thought, ‘why not?’   It’s worth hundreds, Col, and it only cost me £50.”

"You're looking at Cwmderi's new Wim Hof, good boy!"

He is still very puzzled so she explains, “You’re looking at Cwmderi’s new Wim Hof, good boy.”   He assumes that she is referring to the guy on Baywatch, but she enlightens him that it is, “Wim Hof, the ice man [and extreme athlete].

"I'm going to swim in the sea every morning"

“I’m going to start a new hobby, Col – I’m going to swim in the sea every morning, down in Llanelli.”

Colin releases her again

As he assists her to undo the zip again, he wants to know why she is doing this;

"It's freezing out there, love"

“It’s freezing out there, love.   Aren’t you being a little rash?”   She considers that it does not matter, as life is not a rehearsal.

He makes no impression on Britt

Colin is left with a confused expression.

"Do you really think this is a good idea?"

As they get a drink from the machine, Jinx queries if Ffion really thinks that her plan is a good idea, and she answers that of course it is not;  “We’ll half kill each other, but we don’t have a choice – we’re family, unfortunately.”

"You could come with us"

Then as they return to the ward, she suggests that he could come with them, as he has for more patience than Ffion;  “And you’re family, too!   Come on, Jinx – we’ll have a laugh.”

Val is already looking for them . . .

They meet Val, who has got out of bed and come looking for them;  “I thought you’d gone to find a cow to milk!” she admonishes them,

. . . and moaning, as usual

“And hurry up with that cup of tea – I’m parched!”

"I'd rather stick forks in my eyes"

Jinx informs Ffion that he would rather stick forks in his eyes than be a maid to her mother.

Greta is all ready for the outing

Greta and Iolo walk along the High Street and they reach the door of number seven;

"Dad – are you ready?"

she knocks and then shouts through the letterbox, “Dad – are you ready?”

Tyler is composing a text . . .

At that moment Tyler is round by the garage, composing a text message;

. . . and when Iolo reads it . . .

‘Sorry, I have to work today – I can take her tomorrow.’

. . . Iolo is very disappointed

Iolo is very disappointed to receive this.

Then Tyler's phone is confiscated

Garry snatches Tyler’s phone and will return it to him once he has finished the job.

. . . and he is given a balaclava

“Here’s the address – and you will need this as well,” says Garry, handing over a black balaclava.   Tyler gets into the back of the van,

Garry gives the signal to drive away

Garry closes the door, bangs on the side and it moves away.

Greta is devastated

Greta and Iolo continue dejectedly along the street, as in the background the van drives past the Deri.

"Have you lost it?"

Gaynor comes downstairs to open the door in response to some furious knocking;  “Have you lost it?” Colin demands, “Selling that swimming gear to Britt?”   She wonders what is wrong with that, and he emphasises that jumping into cold water at this time of year is dangerous.

"Wild swimming is very good for you"

“Don’t be silly – wild swimming is supposed to be very good for you – it releases endorphins,” she replies.

"Tell her that when she has hypothermia!"

“Tell her that when she has hypothermia!” he rages, but Gaynor points out that she only wants to go swimming.   “Look, I want you to go to the house and tell her you want all the stuff back!” he demands,

"Tell her you've changed your mind"

“You’ve changed your mind and you want to keep them.”

Gaynor flatly refuses

Gaynor refuses to do that, “Because I’m not a doormat, Colin, and neither is Britt.”   She rather unceremoniously closes the door in his face.

"I've told Arwen she'll have to go to school in North Wales"

Back at Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion is looking depressed and informs Jinx, “I’ve just told Arwen she’ll have to go to school in North Wales for a while.”

"She says I'm breaching her human rights . . ."

He assumes that the response was not favourable;  “She says that I’m breaching her human rights by sending her to school with Gogs –

". . . and she's threatening to phone the NSPCC"

“and then she threatened to phone the NSPCC.   It’s not funny.”

"It's not too late to change your mind"

Jinx reminds her that it is not too late to change her mind;

"Val isn't your problem"

“Val isn’t your problem – not really.”   However, she has already received an e-mail confirming the sabbatical, and they will have started the process of recruiting a replacement.

"Now – if you came with us . . ."

“Anyway, I can’t leave her there to rot, can I?   Arwen would be there like a shot if you came with us.”

"That's blackmail!"

He regards this as blackmail,

"Like lusting after Kelly"

and she adds, “I forgot – you’ve got better things to do here – like lusting after Kelly.”

"That's not fair – it's not lust"

He tells her that is not fair, as it is not ‘lust’, and Ffion’s response is, “I hope you have a nice time,

"While I slave away in Deiniolen"

while I slave away in Deiniolen, [6 miles ENE of Caernarfon] brushing her teeth and wiping her bottom!”   Jinx reminds her that she offered.

Colin is glad that Britt appears to have calmed down

When Colin gets back to number 21, he finds Britt sitting on the sofa;

"You were right – it was a stupid idea . . ."

she agrees, “You were right – it is a stupid idea –

". . . it would have cost a fortune in petrol"

it would have cost a fortune in petrol going back and forth to Llanelli every morning.   And why go to all that trouble when there’s plenty of fresh water on our doorstep?”

She is now aiming for fresh water instead

She has stuck a large map on the wall with the location of various lakes and rivers;  “Yes, I want to go to that river – that’s not far away, you see.”

"Whoa, whoa, hang on a minute"

“Whoa, whoa, hang on a minute – you don’t have any experience of doing anything like this,” Colin protests,

"I won the breaststroke every year"

but she says that she won the breaststroke in the swimming gala every year – and he should ask Garry if he does not believe her.

“Swimming in a lake or river in winter is totally different – I don’t think you realise that,” he goes on, “It was freezing out there this morning . . . and . . . you know.”

"You think I'm having another episode"

She realises that he suspects she is having another bipolar episode;  “I can see it in your eyes – there’s no point hiding it.”

"Are you still taking your tablets?"

He demands whether she is still taking her tablets and she confirms that of course she is;

"Something that makes me feel alive again"

“I just want to do something for myself, you know?   Something that makes me feel alive again.”

"I don't want to see you back in that Psychiatric unit"

“I just don’t want you to see you go back to that Psychiatric unit,” he worries, “I couldn’t bear that.”   She promises that will not happen, but he cannot wrap her up in cotton wool for ever.

"I am a rash person, Col . . ."

“And I will get ill if you don’t allow me to be myself – I am a rash person, who does things that are a bit . . .

". . . that's why you love me, isn't it?"

That’s why you love me, isn’t it?”

They hug

and she hugs Colin.

Dani is working in MFC

Dani has been conscripted to work in the chicken shop, which Iolo finds surprising when he walks in;

"I didn't know you worked here"

“I didn’t know you worked here,” and she says she is just covering.

“Where’s Tyler, then?” is his next question,

"I'm not sure, Iolo"

but she says she is not sure about that.

"He said he couldn't take Greta away"

“He texted to say that he couldn’t take Greta away because he was working, and now Greta’s with Dad.”

"Garry said something about the Cash and Carry"

Dani answers, “Actually Garry said something about Tyler going to the cash-and-carry because we’ve run out of chickens – after these, obviously,” she adds, as she sees Iolo looking at the chicken in the cabinet behind her.

"What's going on, Dan?"

He is is suspicious and demands what is going on, because Tyler’s phone is off;  “It’s not like Tyler to upset Greta, especially when he hasn’t seen her.”

"They can go tomorrow"

Dani suggests that they can go tomorrow or another day, but he points out that Greta is heartbroken.

"It took a lot for me to agree to let him"

“Do you know what?   It took a lot for me to agree to let him see her,”

"I don't want to be dragged into this"

but Dani does not want to be dragged into this and insists that it is nothing to do with her, so he walks out.

"I might as well get back into the yoga"

Colin weighs things up;  “OK, if you insist on doing this swimming, I might as well get back into the yoga – guaranteed that my yoga pants are here somewhere.”

"This is not a competition Col"

Britt stops him there;  “Just because I’m starting a new hobby, you don’t have to – this is not a competition.”

"I'm a dab hand at yoga"

He reminds her that it is not a hobby, but that he is a dab hand and the other yogis will remember him;  then they can go together, Britt in the water and him on dry land.

"I think you worry too much . . ."

Again she points out that they do not have to do everything together, but he wants to keep an eye on her.   “I think you worry too much –

". . . I'm not planning a trip to Antarctica – yet'"

“I’m not planning a trip to Antarctica – well, not just yet.”

"How do I know this Will Hof can be trusted?"

“How do I know this Will Hof can be trusted?” he demands, and she corrects him that it is Wim Hof.   She just wants a chance to switch off and think about nothing else,

"What – with you doing headstands on the bank?"

but will not be able to do that if her husband is on the bank, doing headstands.

"You fainted the last time"

“Have you forgotten about the fact you fainted the last time you did this blinkin’ yoga,” she asks, and he agrees that perhaps he will forget about the yoga for now,

"Well, I'm coming with you"

but still insists on accompanying her and will not budge on that.

Siôn reads a book to Greta

In the bookshop, Grandad Siôn is reading a Sali Mali book to Greta and she is telling him what the animals are.

"This is the fifth message I've left you"

Meanwhile, Iolo is leaving yet another message;  “Tyler, this is the fifth message I’ve left you – and the last!   I’m starting to worry that there’s something wrong!”

"I'll go and get another book"

Siôn has finished the story and will go out the back to get another one.

"Another month, the doctor said"

Mark staggers past MFC after having been to the surgery;  “Another month, the doctor said – I’ll lose my mind,” he tells Garry,

"Well, you're getting sick pay"

who replies that he gets sick pay.

Garry sees the van returning

“Do you think I enjoy wasting time, doing nothing?” Mark growls, as we see the van returning, “Why do people think I’m a sponger?”

Iolo is doing some surveillance

From the window of the bookshop, Iolo has been watching this exchange and calls to his father to look after Greta as he goes outside.

"Where's Tyler?"

“Oi, Garry!” he shouts, “Where’s Tyler?”

"On his way back from the Cash and Carry"

Garry says that he is on the way back from the cash and carry.

"Dani said he went this morning"

“Dani said he went this morning,” Iolo says, and is told that he had to go again.

"What Tyler does is none of your business"

“Listen, Iolo, what Tyler does is none of your business any more – so, if you don’t mind . . .”

Iolo watches him walk towards the garage

and Garry walks across to where the van is parked.

Tyler's phone is returned

He asks Tyler how it went and hands back his phone.

Greta goes outside

Greta, alone in the shop, opens the door and goes outside;

Tyler notices Iolo looking at him . . .

Tyler notices Iolo looking at him and hears Greta shout, “Dadi!”

. . . and then he is joined by Greta

before she is picked up by Iolo.

This was his last chance

They both look across accusingly at Tyler, who realises that his last chance has gone;

Iolo and Greta walk away

Iolo walks away along the street.
