Gaynor relaxes with a cup of tea |
Gaynor is relaxing on the sofa when Lois comes downstairs; “You’re up early – do you want breakfast?” her mother asks, but she will have something later.
She wants to give Lois some money |
Gaynor takes some money from her wallet and offers it to Lois, just to keep her going until she finds something.
'i've already found something, Mam" |
However, it is refused, as her daughter announces that she has already found something, and if she is not careful, she will be late.
“Mathew has offered me a job at APD, cleaning,” she explains,
"But you've got a degree, Lois" |
but Gaynor points out that she has a degree. It is explained that there is not much about at moment, and Gaynor insists she could have found something.
"It's work, and it pays" |
“It’s work, and it pays,” says Lois.
Her mother wants to know why she was not told about this job;
"Can we be more open with each other?" |
“I don’t like that we’re keeping things from each other – can we be more open with each other, please?”
Lois leaves for work |
Lois leaves for APD, and Gaynor looks very pleased.
Brynmor's boots have seen better day |
As Kath is on the phone, Brynmor is complaining about the state of his boots; “Give Vicky a big cwtch for me, will you? Are you enjoying yourself?
"Send me some pictures, then" |
“Well, send me some pictures then – e-mail them – it will be cheaper,” she tells Mark.”
Brynmor hopes that Mark is not cramping Ricky’s style with his college mates, and Kath tells him that Ricky is enjoying the company;
"Mark's going to send some photos now" |
“Mark’s going to send me some photos now,” she adds, opening the laptop.
“If Ricky is anything like I was at that age, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” comments Brynmor, but is assured that Mark said he would be respectful.
"How old will you be this year?" |
“Speaking of age, it’s your birthday before long – don’t think I’ve forgotten!” she informs him, “How old will you be this year?”
"Did you say that laptop's slow?" |
He changes the subject, recalling that she said the laptop is slow, and at that moment it ‘freezes’ completely, much to her disgust.
"I can take look at it" |
He offers to have a look at it for her, but she will go and look at the photos on the computer in the shop.
Kath is rather scathing about the manufacturer |
She continues to moan, “That’s what they’re like – these big companies. You spend a fortune on these things and after a few years – kaput!
"It's a scam, I'm telling you!" |
“It’s a scam, I’m telling you!”
Brynmor does not hold out much hope |
Brynmor does his best to investigate the laptop, but does not look at all hopeful.
Lois is working hard at APD . . . |
Lois is hard at work, stacking some shelves at APD when Eifion comes in, proposing to go and get a coffee, but Mathew is engrossed in paperwork.
. . . while Mathew goes through the tender documents |
He complains, “I’m just going through the tendering Anita did for us – it’s a lot of work, and with Tyler still away, we’re down to three – with a tight timetable. And there’s a fine if we don’t meet the target!”
"I can help, Math" |
Lois has been listening to this and she volunteers to help;
"Leave this to the experts – all right?" |
Eifion sneers at her, “You’re here to clean, so leave this to the experts – all right?”
She points out that she did some building in Peru, but he maintains this is a bit different.
"I helped to build a community centre" |
“I helped to build a community centre – and I’m a quick learner,” she emphasises. Eifion cannot believe that Mathew is actually considering her offer,
"We need someone to do the job" |
but he insists that they need someone to do the job.
"I promise I'll do a good job" |
She promises that she will do a good job,
"Prove you know what you're doing . . ." |
so Mathew invites her to prove that she knows what she is doing, and the job is hers.
Lois looks triumphant |
She looks very pleased with herself as she resumes her shelf stacking.
"It's a brilliant idea, Dani" |
In the Deri, Andrea remarks that she saw the clothes shop on Instagram; “It’s a brilliant idea,”
"How are thing with you and Garry?" |
but Dani is more interested in hearing how things are going between her and Garry. She answers, “Good – but he has a lot on his mind at the moment, so we’re not getting that much time together.”
"Gwern hasn't seen much of his father" |
Dani says that Gwern has not seen much of his father either, so Andrea suggests that they could organise something this afternoon; Dani replies that Seren is at gymnastics, but Garry and Gwern could do some bonding.
"Do you know where your mother is?" |
Elsewhere in the pub, Garry notices Aaron, who is sitting by himself; “Do you know where your mother is?” Garry asks, and is told that she has going shopping.
"Is everything all right?" |
“Is everything all right?” is Garry’s next question, and Aaron replies that it is.
Aaron is planning something |
He is definitely looking concerned about something.
"I'm rather busy, actually" |
When Garry goes across to Andrea, he is informed that they are organising a family outing for them all, but he insists that he is rather busy.
Garry is told that it is all planned . . . |
“No, you’re not – you and Gwern are going to spend some time together, while Dani and I put the world to rights,” she instructs him,
. . . so he has to agree |
and he agrees.
Eifion checks the mortar consistency |
Outside APD, Lois is being tested on her mortar-making skills, and Eifion is assessing the quality of the mix;
"How did I do, then?" |
“How did I do, then?” she asks, and Mathew appears quite satisfied,
"The test is not over yet" |
but his cousin insists that the test is not over yet, and he is the one who decides whether she is good enough.
“Next, a general knowledge question,” he continues,
"This is not Mastermind Cymru!" |
but Lois protests that she is trying for a building job, not Mastermind Cymru.
"What should a builder never do?" |
“All right, clever clogs – what is the one thing a builder should never do?” Eifion asks.
"Never buy tartan paint?" |
She suggests that the answer is, “Never buy tartan paint"”
Mathew is tickled by this . . . |
which amuses Mathew, who has now heard enough
. . . and gives her the job . . . |
and decides that Lois has got the job – something with which Eifion does not agree.
. . . which she is pleased about |
“And I’ll learn the rest on the job,” she assures them.
Eifion wonders if he gets any say on the matter,
"You're not one of the bosses, so no!" |
and is informed, “Well, you’re not one of the bosses, so, no! The work starts in two weeks – and before you go, you’ll need one of these.”
"Izzy's od one" |
Mathew produces an APD fleece, “Izzy’s old one,” at which Lois looks very happy.
Tyler is deep in thought |
As Tyler sits at the bar, looking very thoughtful, Brynmor comes in with some bags; he asks Tyler how he is.
"Still in a bit of pain" |
“Still in a bit of pain,” he replies and says that he has not heard any more from the police.
“Sorry for asking, but Kath is worried, that’s all,” Brynmor adds,
"I told them everything I can remember" |
and is told that Tyler has told them everything he can remember, which is not much.
"It will come back to you with time" |
Brynmor is confident that it will come back to him with time.
Tyler imagines that Kath has sent him out shopping,
"No, I've been spoiling myself" |
but Brynmor answers that he has been spoiling himself;
A pair of brown boots |
he takes out a box and displays a pair of brown boots.
* * Flashback to 26 January * * |
This immediately triggers a memory for Tyler, of the night when he was attacked on 26 January, and the last thing he can remember seeing before he lost consciousness.
Tyler is very shocked |
He looks very shocked and immediately dashes out of the Deri, much to Brynmor’s surprise.
On Gaynor's way downstairs . . . |
Gaynor comes downstairs
. . . Lois' coat falls to the floor . . . |
and accidentally knocks Lois’ coat on to the floor; her box of Popranolol tablets falls out of the pocket.
. . . and something falls out |
Her mother picks it up and looks very troubled.
"I've got some good news, Mam!" |
Very conveniently, Lois returns at that moment with some good news for her mother,
"What's going on, Lois?" |
but Gaynor demands, with a very serious expression, what is going on. Lois can see what she is holding.
The laptop is now in pieces |
When Kath arrives back at Maes-y-Deri, she finds that Brynmor is in the process of dismantling the laptop,
"What do you think you're doing?" |
which she is understandably not very happy about.
"You said this wasn't working" |
“You said this wasn’t working, so . . .” he begins, but she corrects him that she said it was slow,
"You didn't have to destroy it!" |
and he did not have to destroy it like that.
He argues that he has not destroyed it; “There are processors in here that they don’t make any more – I’m recycling – they’re perfect for my project.”
"What about my photos and videos?" |
She is more interested in her laptop, containing her photos and videos, but he points out that he has saved the hard drive; “What am I supposed to do with that?” she demands, and he explains that she can transfer it to another laptop. “How am I supposed to do that? I can’t afford another laptop!” she rages.
"I've bought you a new one" |
Brynmor has the answer to that and fetches one of his other purchases; “I’ve bought you a new one – it’s top of the range.
"Receives e-mails before they've been sent!" |
“The boy in the shop said it’s so fast it receives e-mails before they’ve been sent!”
Kath does not know what to say, so he tells her,
"What if I set this up now?" |
“You don’t have to say anything – you wanted a new laptop – so, what if I set this up now, and then we can look at the photos Mark sent?”
He resumes his dismantling |
He returns to tinkering with the old laptop.
Out in the park, Garry is kicking a ball around with Gwern; he asks if his son has been a good boy for Dani.
"Dani spends a lot of time with Marc" |
“You care now, do you?” Gwern replies, “She spends a lot of time with Marc – he’s really cool, actually – he’s teaching me self-defence. Now that you’re not in the Deri, do I have to call him Dad, too?”
"I'm your Dad, and no-one else!" |
Garry points out that he is Gwern’s Dad, and no one else, so he is asked, “What about Andrea?”
"She's my girlfriend" |
and it is explained that she is Garry’s girlfriend. “Do you love her?” Is the next question,
"She acts silly around Marc" |
“I think Dani loves Marc – she acts silly around him – like she used to with you.”
Garry thinks that it is about time to change the subject and asks about school. He is told that Gwern got 18 out of 20 in the history test;
"Marc helped me to revise" |
“Marc helped me revise.”
"Yes, I'm sure he did!" |
Garry turns away and mutters to himself, “Yes, I’m sure he did!”
"Why didn't you tell me, Lois?" |
Gaynor is still looking at the pack of tablets and cannot understand why Lois did not tell her;
"I didn't want to worry you" |
she replies that she needed time to process it, and did not want to worry her mother. “Of course I’m going to worry – we’re talking about your health –
"I passed it on to you and Izzy" |
“I just feel so guilty. Of course it’s my fault – I passed it on to you and Izzy.”
Lois tells her what the doctor said; “If I take the tablets I’ll be fine,”
"And what about Gwen?" |
but now her mother is anxious about Gwen, [Lois’ and Rhys’ daughter, who was given up for adoption in 2011.] “If you have this condition, she might too!”
"Can we talk about this another time?" |
Lois cannot handle this at the moment and wants to talk about it some other time, as she is too tired.
Dani and Andrea are chatting amicably |
Dani and Andrea are chatting like best friends when Garry returns to them, and is glad they are getting on,
"Talking about make-up and clothes, were you?" |
assuming they have been talking about make-up and clothes. “Typical man – do you really think that’s all women talk about?” Andrea demands.
Dani says that she did not know that Andrea could sew, and neither did he know that, but she explains, “Who do you think makes all my cosplay costumes – a fairy?”
"Go and get Gwern an ice cream, Garry" |
Dani encourages him to go and get Gwern an ice cream and leave them to talk.
Someone is keeping watch . . . |
From his hiding place behind a nearby tree,
. . . on Andrea |
Aaron is watching proceedings.
Gaynor make a phone call |
Gaynor is sitting, brooding, then picks up her phone and dials a number;
"You did some work for me recently . . ." |
“This is Gaynor Llywelyn – you did some work for me recently, and I was very happy with it. To be honest, that’s why I’m phoning –
". . . I thought you might be able to find someone else" |
“I thought you might be able to find someone else for me.”
The new laptop is up and running |
Kath’s new laptop is now working well
Mark and Ricky |
and she is looking at photos of Mark and Ricky; “Thanks for this, love – you didn’t have to,” she says,
"There's no better way of keeping in touch" |
but Brynmor insists that there is no better way of keeping in touch with everyone.
“Seeing you happy is more important,” he assures her, “And I’ve got something else for you as well – it’s in that drawer.”
Kath looks in the drawer |
She goes to investigate and discovers a wallet containing a bank card. “The PIN number is there as well – it’s for you,” he adds.
"I have a bank account already" |
Kath looks perplexed, informing him that she has a bank account already,
"I don't want you to go without things" |
but he replies that he does not want her to go without things like a new laptop, or new clothes, or a new washing machine. “I don’t want you to worry where the money is going to come from.”
"I don't want to take advantage of you" |
She is determined that she will not take advantage of him, but he protests that she is not taking advantage; he wants her to have it – and is not taking ‘no’ for an answer. She reluctantly concedes, pointing out, “I shall only use it in emergencies – understand?”
"It's up to you how you spend it" |
He maintains that it is up to her how she spends it – it is her money.
"How did I find you, Brynmor?" |
She wonders how she found him.
"Today was a very successful day" |
In the Deri, Jason is having a game of darts while Mathew is sitting quietly; “Congratulations, Math – today was a very successful day!” Jason remarks, “You’re not worried about this job, are you?”
Mathew is puzzled |
What is puzzling Mathew is, “We have tried to get work like this before and we haven’t had a sniff – but suddenly, bingo!
"What's different this time?" |
“What’s different this time?”
"Anita understands how these things work" |
Jason puts the change of fortunes down to Anita; “She’s an old hand – she understands how these things work.”
"We've done better in the past" |
Mathew agrees that the application was good, but they have done better in the past and have not had anything.
"We'll form a plan tomorrow" |
“I might be tired and starting to waffle, but, come first thing tomorrow morning, we’ll form a plan,” he decides, and Jason says he does not have to be in Llanarthur until lunchtime.
Mathew leaves the Deri |
As Mathew leaves, Anita appears, wondering where he is going;
"We've had a hectic day, getting that big job" |
she is not surprised that he is heading home, as they have had a hectic day, getting that big job.
Jason comments that Matthew just said a pile of other companies would usually get a contract like this;
"Why us – now?" |
“Why us – now?” Anita explains that APD was the best company, but he is sure there is is more to it than that.
"A secret weapon – me!" |
“Yes – you had a secret weapon this time – me!” she points out, urging him not to look for problems where there are none; “And get me another G&T, please.”
Anita looks smug |
She looks very self-satisfied.
"I remember something about the attack" |
As Jason approaches the bar, Tyler is making a phone call; “Detective Roberts? This is Tyler Davies-White – listen, I remember something about the attack.”
At that moment, next door to the Deri . . . |
Coincidentally, the very things which Tyler has just remembered,
. . . those very boots are being laced up |
worn by DI Wilkinson, are having their laces tied next door to the Deri.
"Do you really know the people living around you?" |
In the chip shop flat, Aaron is recording a video of himself; “Do you really know the people who live around you? They might be nice people, kind people –
"Moved to you area to hurt you" |
“but how do you know they haven’t moved to your area to hurt you?”
Britt arrives and watches him |
At this point Britt comes up the stairs and watches as he continues, “Your family, your friends, the people you love. There are people out there bringing their plague into our communities –
"HIV, AIDS – that's what they've got" |
“HIV, AIDS – that’s what they’ve got – and they want to spread the disease as revenge against the pure people.
"We need to do something before it's too late" |
“People like us – you and me – so we need to do something, now, before it’s too late.”
He appears quite pleased . . . |
He appears quite satisfied with his video
. . . as, it seems, does his mother |
and his mother also seems to approve.
