Lois sits on the sofa

Next morning, Lois is sitting, looking thoughtful, when Rhys come downstairs;  

They hear a car outside . . .

they look at each other, and hear a car engine outside.  “Oh, they’re back!” Lois groans, 

. . . and hurries upstairs

and disappears upstairs.

Rhys is looking rather awkward as his father and Gaynor come in, 

"Did you have a good night?"

and they welcome him back;  “Did you have a good night?” Gaynor enquires, 

"It was quiet"

and he answers that it was quiet.   Her phone rings, 

The detective is reporting

and she is surprised to find that it is the private detective.

"Shall I take your bag upstairs?"

At that moment, Hywel offers to take her bag upstairs, and asks if she is going to help, but she is too busy with her phone call;  

"What – already?"

“What – already?” she gasps, “Yes, I see – thank you very much.”   She looks stunned.

Andrea is alone in the Deri

In the Deri, Andrea is sitting alone, and when Siôn walks in, he attempts to strike up a conversation with her;  

"Have you heard of 'Kombucha'?"

“Have you heard of ‘Kombucha’?” he asks.   [Kombucha – a fermented, lightly effervescent, sweetened black or green tea drink commonly consumed for its purported health benefits.]

Siôn continues, “Let me explain – I’m an expert . . .” 

"I've got other things on my mind!"

but she angrily snarls that she has other things on her mind at the moment.  After a pause she apologises for her outburst, and he leaves her alone.   

Jinx has been listening . . .

Jinx is nearby, and she also apologises to him.

. . . and comes over to stmpathise

He comes across and comments, “He tried phoning me last night at 11 o’clock to sell me Kombucha.   I’m Jinx – it’s Andrea, isn’t it?   Garry’s partner?”   

"Yes – no – perhaps"

She replies, “Yes – perhaps – it’s complicated.   I’m finding it difficult to deal with Britt and Aaron – they’re going out of their way to make things so awkward for us!”   

"Shall I talk to him?"

Jinx remarks that he has managed to give Aaron some advice recently, and could talk to him, 

"I don't want to make matters worse"

but she is worried it might make things worse.

"So you want to be with Garry?"

“So you want to be with Garry?” he deduces, 

"I really don't know"

but she says that she really does not know.   Jinx is sorry to have disturbed her, and wishes her good .

The atmosphere is rather tense

Rhys is drinking a cup of tea and there appears to be a tense atmosphere between him and Lois;  

"You don't regret last night, do you?"

“You don’t regret last night, do you?” he wonders, 

Obviously not

to which she smiles and shakes her head.   

"I'm popping over to CwmFM "

They are about to indulge in another kiss, when Hywel comes downstairs, advising that he is popping over to CwmFM.

“We have to be more careful,” decides Lois, 

"I'm glad it wasn't a one-off"

and Rhys is pleased to hear that last night was not just a one off.   “Well, I intend to stay in Cwmderi for a while – 

"You'll do until I find someone better"

“so you’ll have to do until I find someone better!” she tells him.

"You sound more like Sioned than you think!"

“You’re more like Sioned than you than you think!” he laughs, 

Lois did not appreciate that

and she is not sure that she likes that remark.

Aaron comes into the Deri

In the Deri, where Geraint is on duty in the absence of Cassie, Jinx is reading the paper when Aaron comes in;  “Aaron, I thought you and Garry were mates,” says Jinx, and Aaron replies that they are.   

"You're not much of a mate!"

“You’re not much of a mate if you’re spoiling things between him and his partner,” Jinx goes on, 

"She's an 'HIVer'!"

but is disparagingly told that she is an ‘HIVer’.

"Grow up, will you, Aaron?"

“Oh – grow up, will you, Aaron?” Jinx growls at him, “She’s a person, like you and me – and she’s made Garry happy.   Now, thanks to you, he’s going to be unhappy – is that what you want?”   

"He'll find someone else"

Aaron is confident that he will find someone else

Jinx continues, “But what if he’s not so happy with someone else – 

"What if she doesn't reach your high standards?"

“what if she doesn’t reach your high standards?   Will you put a stop to that, too?   After everything Garry’s done for you, this is how you thank him.   You know what?   “I’m glad you’re not my nephew, or my mate!”   It looks as if he might have made some impression on Aaron.

Sioned is working on the laptop

Sioned is working at the kitchen table in Penrhewl when she is surprised to see Lois walk in;  

"What are you doing here?"

“What are you doing here?” Sioned demands, and is reminded that she invited Lois, so sets about making a cup of tea.

"Things are going well with the ready meals"

“I hear that things are going well with the ready meals,” Lois begins, 

"Yes, we're flat out"

and Sioned admits that they are flat out, trying to keep up with everything.   

She is feeling guilty about their past history, but Lois points out that was a long time ago;  

"I don't want things to be awkward between us"

“And I’ve heard that you’ve changed a lot.   Look, I just want you to know that I’m staying in Cwmderi for a while, so I don’t want things to be awkward between us.   I just wanted to say that I’m willing to forget the past if you are.”   

They seems to have reached a truce

Sioned smiles.

DJ appears 

DJ comes into the farmhouse, reporting that there was a hole in the fence, and is introduced to Lois;  

"How are you finding things back in Cwmderi?"

“How are you finding things back in Cwmderi then?   Have things changed?” he asks.

“There have been a few surprises – but moving on is a good thing, isn’t it?” she replies, and he says that he is sorry about her sister, who is a huge loss.   

"Especially when Izzy lived at Penrhewl"

To be honest, they were good mates, especially when Izzy lived at Penrhewl.

Sioned is getting worried

Sioned is beginning to look worried, as he continues, “She didn’t live here in the house, but in the caravan – she and Sioned didn’t always see eye to eye.”

This is news to Lois

This comes as a revelation to Lois, but Sioned tried to play down the situation, pointing out that is not how things were.   “You haven’t changed at all – the problem is that I was an idiot to think she had changed!” snarls Lois, 

"You bullied her like you bullied me!"

“But now I find out she bullied my sister just like she bullied me!” and she storms out of the farmhouse, 

"Lois – stop!"

ignoring Sioned’s pleas for her to stop.

Brynmor is treating Kath to a meal . . .

Brynmor has taken Kath to a posh restaurant, with which she is very impressed;  “We haven’t had much time for just the two of us recently,” he explains, “We deserve a treat.”

. . . then Kath notices . . .

Unfortunately, as they approach the bar, Kath notices two of the other diners, 

. . . Ieuan Griffiths and Anita

Ieuan Griffiths and Anita, and the evening turns rather less appealing.

"We miss you on the council"

“What a surprise, Brynmor – how long has it been?” gushes Ieuan, “I’ll tell you one thing – we miss you on the council!   You’ve made our night.”

"We've just come out for a quiet meal"

Brynmor and Kath are invited to join them, but Brynmor replies that they have just come out for a quiet meal.   

"You must join us"

Ieuan will not take no for an answer, so they have little choice but to agree.   

Anita does not agree

Anita is not at all in favour of this, 

"Make yourselves at home – there's plenty of room"

as they are invited, “Make yourselves at home – there’s plenty of room.”

There now appears to be a brewery at Y Felin 

At Y Felin, Siôn appears to be producing a large quantity of this Kombucha, which he is filling into a great number of bottles.   

"Not everyone wants to talk about Kombucha, Dad"

Iolo arrives and tells his father, “I think we need to have a chat – not everyone in the village wants to talk about Kombucha.”

"Has Tesni been with another man?"

Siôn is preoccupied with one question;  “Has Tesni been with another man?   The night she was out with you?”   

"Definitely not"

Iolo is quite sure that she has not, but Siôn continues, “She must have – she’s pregnant!   

"I can't be the father!"

“I can’t be the father – I’ve had a vasectomy!   Unless that didn’t work – but it’s very unlikely.   I don’t want to be a father – I hadn’t thought it through properly.   What will the rest of the village think?”

"She's not pregnant, Dad"

Iolo stops him there, making it very plain, “Tesni’s not pregnant!” and his father wonders why she would lie.   “She knows about the vasectomy,” Iolo confesses, “I told her – sorry, Dad.”

"Why would she . . ?"

“If she knows about the vasectomy, why would she . . . unless she wants to get back at me for not telling her?   Is that her game?   

". . . so that's what her game is!"

“That’s what her game is!”

Gaynor studies the laptop

Gaynor is studying her laptop, referring to the details sent to her by the private detective;  

She searches for BS34 5HJ . . . 

on Google Earth, she inputs the postcode BS34 5HJ, and the map moves across to the other side of the Severn estuary, 

. . . in Patchway, Bristol

to an address in Patchway, North of Bristol.   

She stares at the screen

She looks bemused at the screen.

Andrea arrives at the Chip shop flat

Andrea visits the chip shop flat and Garry is of course pleased to see her;  she is sorry for ignoring his calls, but needed time to think.   

"You hurt me, Garry"

“You hurt me, Garry – you know how careful I am with my tablets.   For you to doubt that hurt me more than any fist could have done!   I understand that Britt and Aaron were in your head, 

"What kind of relationship will this be?"

“but what kind of relationship will this be, if your sister and your nephew hate me?”

"It's what we want that's important"

He insists that it does not matter about Britt and Aaron;  “It’s what we want that’s important.”   She acknowledges that she has not known him for long, 

"I know nothing's more important than your family"

but does know that nothing is more important to him than his family.   That was one of the things she liked most about him.

"I'll have a word with them"

He assures her that he will have a word with Britt and Aaron, but she predicts, “For what?   You’ll never change their minds.”   He realises that she wants to finish, but she shakes her head;  

"But I'm realistic, Garry"

“I don’t – but I’m also realistic – I think that’s the only choice we have.”   

This is not what he wanted to hear

Garry looks very serious at this news.

"That was very acceptable"

At the end of the meal, Ieuan pronounces it very acceptable, 

"My Hollandaise Sauce is better"

although Anita considers that the Hollandaise Sauce was not as good as she makes it.   

Kath has had enough . . .

Kath is looking fed up with the whole thing, 

"Look at the time!"

as is Brynmor.   “The important thing is to enjoy the moment,” Griffiths goes on.

As Kath appears increasingly bored, 

"Someone's 50th birthday party"

he adds, “Talking about enjoyment, remember the big party we had here to celebrate someone’s 50th birthday?”   

"Yes, it was me"

Brynmor acknowledges that it was his birthday, as Griffiths drones on, “It was the best night of my life – well, one of them,” after Anita looks accusingly at him.

"When exactly was that, then?"

Kath wants to know exactly when that was, but Brynmor replies that it does not matter.   

"When the Spice Girls won the Britt Awards"

Griffiths is racking his brains, and comes up with, “It was around at the time The Spice Girls won the Brit awards – do you remember Geri Halliwell in that Union Jack dress?   

"I've always been a fan of the Spice Girls"

“I have always been a big fan of The Spice Girls – there was no better song than ‘Spice up your Life’.”

"I'll go and settle the bill"

Brynmor has had enough and will go and settle the bill, although Anita was under the impression that Ieuan was paying;  however he does not seem keen to do so, and Brynmor insists that he will pay.

"Funny, not wanting to talk about his age"

“He’s funny, isn’t he, not wanting to talk about his age?” remarks Anita, 

"Leave him alone, Anita"

but Kath answers that it is his business, and she should leave him alone.

Ieuan agrees that if he wants to keep his age a secret, he has every right, 

"I'm sure he has his reasons"

adding, “I’m sure he has his reasons.”

"Are you going to say anything?"

In the chip shop flat there is a long silence;  “Are you going to say anything?” Andrea asks, and Garry maintains that she is giving up too easily.   

"It's not easy for me, either"

He stresses it is not easy for him either, having to listen to the nonsense Britt and Aaron say about her.   He believes that the two of them have something, and he is not going to throw it away because of them;  

"With you I think it's worth it"

“Every relationship has its hassles, but with you I think it’s worth it,” he declares, “When are you going to realise how much I like you?”   

"Pity not everyone's like you"

She takes a step towards him, saying that it is a pity not everyone is like him, and he urges her to think positive;  

"Please give me another chance"

“You never know what’s going to happen – please give me another chance.”   

"All right"

Andrea smiles and agrees that she will do so.

At that moment Aaron comes up the stairs, apparently having had a change of heart;  

"Sorry to disturb you"

“Uncle Garry, Andrea, sorry to disturb you,” he says and retires to his room.   

"You see – think positive"

Garry repeats his suggestion that they should think positive.

"Are you sure you're not angry with me?"

Iolo is about to leave Y Felin, and enquires, “Are you sure you’re not angry with me for telling Tesni the truth?   Do you think you’ll be able to work through this?”

"Well, now she's going to have a baby"

His father replies, “Tesni told me we couldn’t have a relationship if I didn’t agree to have a baby – well, now she’s going to have a baby.”

Iolo points out the problem here;  “She’s not going to have a baby.”   

"We're having a baby together"

However, as far as Siôn is concerned, he insists they are going to have a baby together, 

"That's cruel, Dad"

but Iolo regards this as cruel.   It is pointed out that Tesni started it, but Iolo cautions that it will not end well.   

"She needs to learn her lesson"

Siôn does not want to discuss it any further, maintaining that Tesni needs to learn her lesson, and that is it.   

"Don't say I didn't warn you"

“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” says Iolo as he leaves.

"What does 'a little bit of bulling' mean?"

DJ comes into the kitchen at Penrhewl and asks Sioned, “What does ‘a little bit of bullying’ mean?”   She wonders if it matters, 

"We were just kids"

as they were just kids, but he goes on, “It looks as if it matters to Lois – was it as bad as she says?”

Sioned admits she was horrible to Lois;  

"I made her life a nightmare"

“I made her life a nightmare – I didn’t say anything because I’m ashamed, DJ.   When I think about the person I used to be, I just hate myself – and not just because of what I did to Lois, either.   

"There are so many things I'm ashamed of"

“There are so many things I’m ashamed of – but I have changed – I have – 

"Please don't doubt me now"

“so please don’t doubt me now because of something that happened long ago!”

"I know you're not the Sioned you were"

He is well aware that she is not the Sioned she was, and he does not need persuading;  

"I trust you 100%"

“Of course I trust you – 100%!   Don’t ever doubt that!”

"Can't that ferret Griffiths talk?"

As they sit together on the sofa at Maes-y-Deri, Kath concedes that the meal was not bad, “But, heavens above, can’t that ferret Griffiths talk?  We didn’t get any time alone after all, did we?”   

"Ieuan's not going to change now"

Brynmor accepts that Ieuan is not going to change now, and is now going up to bed.

Kath makes sure he has gone upstairs . . .

As soon as he has gone, Kath has a look on the laptop, 

. . . opens the laptop . . .

searching on the Chwilota search engine for 

. . . and conducts a search

‘Union Jack Dress Spice Girls’, 

"Ah - 1997 – that means . . ."

discovering that it was at the 1997 Brit Awards.   

". . . Brynmor is 75 this year"

She then does some quick mental arithmetic and comes up with the answer that Brynmor is 75 this year.   She works out how she is going to celebrate this milestone, taking her phone and calling Cassie, presumably still in Blackpool.

"I want to book the Deri for a night"

“It’s Kath here – I want to book the Deri for a night, so phone me back when you get this, please.”

"Tesni – is that you?"

Siôn is sitting quietly at home when the front door opens, 

"Oh – Gaynor"

but it is not Tesni, as he expects, but Gaynor;  

"I know where my grand-daughter is!"

“I’ve found Gwen – I know where my grand-daughter is!” she excitedly announces.
