"My head is spinning, Garry"

Andrea complains that there are so many films to choose from, her head is spinning;  

Aaron phones from downstairs

Garry receives a phone call from Aaron downstairs, who has a problem in the shop with the electrics.   

"I won't be long, love"

He will not be long, and then they can enjoy their film night.   Britt says that Andrea is welcome to stay 

"Would you like a glass of wine?"

and asks if she would like a glass of wine or a lager, which she declines.

Andrea is not happy at being left alone with Britt, for obvious reasons;  

"Sorry about last night"

“Sorry about last night,” says Britt, “I hope it’s just a phase that Aaron is going through.   I’ve never heard Garry call anyone ‘love’ before – I know he’s my brother, but he can be cold at times – 

"And worse, as well"

“and worse, as well.   Sorry, it’s not my place to talk about Garry’s past.”

Andrea is concerned

Of course Andrea’s interest has been piqued by this, and she looks troubled.

Lois has finished her day's work

At APD, Lois, equipped with her toolbox, has finished the day’s work, and Mathew is pleased with the way things have gone;  “Good day’s work, boys!” he says, 

"Oh – girls, too"

“Oh – girls, too!” he adds, and tells Eifion to stop laughing.

"Can you go to the Deri for a few bottles?"

He asks her for a favour;  “Can you go to the Deri for a few bottles, so we can finish the day off in style?   Just put it on my tab.”

"Hard worker, keen to learn"

When she has gone, he remarks to Eifion, “I thought she was very good – a hard worker, keen to learn.”   

"She won't be keen to carry breeze blocks"

Eifion grumbles that she will not be so keen when she has to carry breeze blocks, but Mathew urges him to give her a chance, and also reveals that Tyler is wanting to come back to work;  “He’s been in touch and says that he feels better.”

"Tyler and Iolo are water under the bridge now"

Eifion points out that he and Iolo are water under the bridge now, but Mathew is doubtful.

"What are you looking at?"

At Bryntirion, Kelly glances across at Anita, who wants to know what she is looking at;  “You – heartbroken over Ieuan Griffiths,” is the reply.   Anita makes it quite clear that she is not heartbroken, and does not want to talk about it anyway.

"He's a slug!"

“You can do better than him!” Kelly insists, “He’s a slug – if he were in France, someone would order him with garlic!”   

"That's not fair, Kelly!"

When Anita strongly objects to that, 

"Let's see what's on telly"

Kelly proposes that they could see what is on the telly.

"I think you're being unfair"

“Do you know what?   I think you’re being unfair now,” Anita protests, “He’s a nice man, you know – he’s a lot of fun.”   

"You regret kicking him out"

Kelly can see that she is regretting kicking him out;  

"No . . . well, perhaps"

“No . . . well, perhaps,” Anita vacillates, and Kelly tells her to phone him, but she draws the line at that.

“Phone him, or he won’t know that you regret being angry with him,” 

"He's not psychic!"

she is told, “He’s not psychic!”   Anita simply continues eating chocolates, and Kelly smiles, having worked out exactly what she is going to do.

Lois collects half a dozen bottles

Lois has obtained half a dozen bottles from Geraint in the Deri, 

A rather frosty atmosphere

when Sioned comes in and is surprised to see her.   The atmosphere is rather awkward between them;  

"Mathew's treating us to a couple of drinks"

“Mathew is treating us to a couple of drinks while we clear the yard,” Lois explains, “I’d better go.”

"You're always welcome at Penrhewl"

In a bid to break the ice, Sioned suggests, “You’re always welcome at Penrhewl if you fancy a cup of tea or something.”   

Lois does not appear likely to take up the offer

Lois looks suspicious as she leaves.

Garry is taking a long time downstairs

Andrea is still waiting for Garry to return, and thinks that she may as well have the glass of wine she was offered earlier;  

"Sorry for mentioning Garry earlier"

Britt apologises for mentioning Garry earlier, but is told that she did not really reveal anything.   

"You should know about his darker side"

“The last thing I wanted was to upset you,” Britt goes on, “I just felt, well, that you should know about Garry’s darker side.”

"I'm sure he would have told me"

Andrea is sure that he would have told her in time, if it was something important.   

"Knowing your partner used to . . ."

“It is important, isn’t it – knowing your partner used to . . . no – I’d better stop there!”   

"What are you talking about, Britt?"

As intended, Andrea is eager to know what she is talking about;  “There’s no point starting to say something,” but Britt tells her to leave it, as is not fair.

"He and Sheryl was a long time ago"

“Anyway, he and Sheryl was a long time ago now – hasn’t he talked about her?   There we are then – there’s no need for me to either”.   Andrea demands what happened between them, but is told that it was years ago now.   

"He's learned to control himself since then"

“I’ll say one thing, Garry’s learned to control himself since then.”

"Was he violent with her?"

Andrea is understandably very concerned now, and asks if he was violent with her;  “You said that, not me,” is the evasive reply, 

Now she is really worried

and a look of horror is evident on Andrea’s face.   Britt looks quietly confident that her plan is working.

"Mathew's so excited about this choir"

“Mathew’s so excited about this choir, isn’t he?” says Lois, and Eifion thinks he will go, telling her to close the door behind her.   

Eifion is confronted by Iolo

Just as he is about to walk out, Iolo comes in, having been asked by Anita to come in.

"I'll be helping you on this care homes project"

“I’ll be helping you with this care homes project,” he says, 

"I've always wanted to know more about plumbing"

and Lois comments that she has always wanted to know more about plumbing.   Iolo feels awkward with Eifion, and leaves as quickly as he can.

Ready meal production is in full swing

At Penrhewl, Jaclyn is busily cooking a large pan of food, when DJ enters and remarks on the appetising smell, 

"It's Coq au Vin – but I'm none the wiser"

although he admits that it has been some time since he was a chef.   Eileen informs him, “It’s Coq au Vin – but I’m none the wiser.”   He assures her that her smell will come back.

“Eileen tells me that you have lost your cooking ‘mojo’,” says Jaclyn, but he insists that it is not like riding a bike.   

"We need the help, don't we, Jaclyn?"

Eileen pleads with him to help them as they are so busy, 

"I've got a Beef Bourguignon recipé"

and Jaclyn has a Beef Bourguinon recipé to hand to tempt him.

"Sioned would be so grateful"

“Sioned would be so grateful if you helped her mother,” suggests Eileen, so he agrees to help out on one condition – that he and Sioned will have the first one for dinner tonight.

Mathew is gargling

Eifion arrives at the shop flat to find Mathew gargling;  

"They says it's good for the voice"

“They say it’s good for the voice,” he explains, but Eifion has no truck with such nonsense.   “We’re practising in the vestry at seven,” Mathew reminds him.

"I was a bit tough on Lois today"

“I was thinking on the way back I was a bit tough on Lois today,” Eifion remarks, “To be honest with you, is there any point having Tyler back, because we’ve got Lois?   Will he be the same?   A nasty knock to the head like that can affect a person.”

"Might be an idea to have him behind the counter"

Mathew concedes that it might be an idea to have him behind the counter to see how he is.   

Eifion wants to keep Tyler out of the way

“We won’t need him to come to the care homes with us then,” Eifion comments, and looks very pleased that Matthew agrees.

Garry examines the fuse board

In the chip shop, by torchlight, Garry is examining the fuse board, and as he activates a switch, the lights are back on.   

"The fryers are on as well"

Aaron reports that the fryers are on as well.   “We can open up now,” says Garry, “An hour late is better than nothing – it’s odd that the main fuse blew – 

"You haven't been messing around with it, have you?"

“you haven’t been messing around with it, have you?”

"Why do you always think the worst of me?"

Aaron denies this;  “Why do you always think the worst of me?   I’m sorry for upsetting you and Andrea – before I apologise to her, I wanted to check something with you.   

"How do you know Andrea takes her tablets?"

“How do you know that Andrea takes her tablets?   What if she accidentally misses a few days?”

"I'm sure she's extra careful"

“Look, I’m sure she’s extra careful with something so important,” Garry tells him, 

"All these different time zones"

but Aaron insists that it is more difficult for someone like her, an air hostess, in different time zones, and encourages Garry to think about that, 

He has sown the seeds of doubt in Garry's mind

which he does.

"How about 'Bois y Cwm'?"

Around a table in the Deri, suggestions are being made for the name of the male voice choir;  Colin proposes ‘Bois y Cwm’, but Ffion remarks, “It doesn’t show a lot of thought.”   

Mathew comes in and likes Colin’s idea, 

"That could mean any valley"

but Jaclyn points out that it could mean any valley.   

"Cor Meibion Cwmderi"

Ffion favours ‘Cor Meibion Cwmderi’ [Cwmderi Male Voice Choir], but Colin regards that as rather obvious.   She points out that is what they are, 

"Lleisaur Deri?"

but then he comes up with Lleisau’r Deri, [Deri Voices] which does not get much support.

Mathew makes his suggestions

Mathew thinks of ‘Deri Ganu’ [Deri Singing] and ‘Dynion y Deri’ [Men of the Deri].   As they are getting nowhere, Jaclyn recommends settling for ‘Cor Meibion Cwmderi’, 

Colin is outnumbered

and a proper committee vote decides that Colin is overruled.

"That should definitely be a Cae Glas recipé!"

After their meal at Penrhewl, Sioned is of the opinion they should include it as a Cae Glas recipé;  DJ enjoyed cooking it, which she says will please her mother.  

"I'd like to have children one day – with you"

“Thanks again for helping out so much while she’s recovering – I know you’ve got a lot on – and you’re great with Huwi-John.   I’d like to have children one day – with you – but not quite yet.”

“Well, you’re the boss,” he says, and after a moment’s thought, 

"It would be nice to get married, too"

raises the subject, “It would be nice to get married, too.”

"We're never going to get married"

Sioned urges him not to spoil things;  “We’re never going to get married,” 

This disappoints DJ

and he is downhearted.

"Taking your tablet, are you?"

Garry comes back upstairs from the chip shop, where Andrea, with a glass of water, is waiting for him;  “Taking your tablet, are you?” he asks 

"No – just a glass of water"

and she says that it is just a glass of water.   

"You do take your tablets regularly?"

“Listen, you do – well – you know – take your tablets regularly, don’t you?   Sorry, I’m not doubting you, but I just want to make sure.   Aaron was just worried about the time zones and the timing and the travel.”

"In case you hit me – like you hit Sheryl!"

“Aaron – typical!” she snarls, “I’d better not make you angry, in case you hit me – like you hit Sheryl!”   

"Andrea, don't go"

As she picks up her bag to hurry out of the flat, he begs her not to go.   

"Why should I trust that you won't hit me?"

“If you don’t trust me to take my tablets, why should I trust that you won’t hit me?” she demands.   

Garry is devastated

Garry is left feeling devastated.

DJ does the washing up

DJ is washing up after the meal and declines Sioned’s offer of help;  

"I hope you're not sulking"

“I hope you’re not sulking,” she says.   

"Why are you trying to punish me"

He cannot understand it as they are back together;  “Why are you trying to punish me for what I did?”   She makes it very plain that this is not about him, but she cannot put herself through that pain again.   

"It will be a different wedding next time"

He argues that it will be a different wedding next time.

"There's not going to be a next time!"

Sioned is adamant, “There’s not going to be a next time – OK?” and he emotionally protests that it is not OK, 

"We shall have to agree to disagree"

realising they will just have to agree to disagree.

"You've got a cheek!"

Griffiths is back at Bryntirion with flowers for Anita;  “You’ve got a cheek – just turning up with a bunch of flowers!” she snarls, but he replies that Kelly phoned him.   “She had no right to!” Anita snaps.

"I had to come to explain"

“I’m glad she did, because I had to come here to explain,” he says, “I know I’ve been acting a bit odd recently, 

"You certainly have!"

“with the phone calls and so on, but the truth is, I’ve been trying to hide a surprise – but I’ve changed my mind now – I had booked us into Y Plas.”

“Had you now?   That’s cheeky, without speaking to me first,” she berates him, 

"Somewhere more important to us than Y Plas . . ."

and he advises that now he has made a small change of plan – they will be going somewhere that is more important to them than Y Plas.

". . . we're going to the Deri!"

“We’re going to the Deri,” which causes Anita some surprise.   “Listen, I’ve enjoyed this secret as much as you have, but I want to show you off to the world now – and where better than the Deri, after choir practice?   Kelly knows – I wouldn’t be surprised if it is on the Western Post front page tomorrow!   

"Go and get that fur coat . . ."

“Go and get that fur coat – 

". . . to let everybody know you didn't get it on eBay"

“it’s about time everybody knew you didn’t get it on eBay.”

"It all went like clockwork"

After choir practice, Colin comments to Siôn that things went like clockwork;  

"Apart from Mathew!"

“Apart from Mathew – someone has to tell him!” insists Eifion.

"Like a tomcat being castrated!"

“What?   That he sings like a tomcat being castrated?” asks Siôn, 

"Why don't we have a singsong now?"

then Mathew joins them, very pleased at how the practice went, and of course they all agree with him.   He proposes that they could have a singsong there and then, as singing hymns in pubs is an old Welsh tradition.

"People won't want to hear us"

They maintain that not everyone wants to hear them, but Mathew is not put off, 

Mathew demonstrates his version of singing

but rather launches into, “I don’t ask for luxury, the world’s gold or its pearls,” and invites them to join in.   Siôn urges Eifion to tell him, and Mathew asks, “Tell me what?”

"We were thinking you should . . ."

Eifion begins, “We were thinking you should . . .” then he chickens out 

". . . thank Colin for setting up the choir"

and instead continues, “Say a word of thanks to Colin for setting up the choir.”   

Mathew offers his heartfelt thanks

Mathew does indeed express his appreciation, in memory of Izzy, and then his phone rings;  he walks away to answer it.

Siôn insists that Eifion must tell him;  “It’s not fair on everyone else,” 

"It will break his heart"

but Colin is sure that it will break Mathew’s heart.   Siôn is concerned that his voice will break the windows as well.

Ieuan and Anita come in

Griffiths and Anita walk into the Deri, 

"This is my new girlfriend"

and he proudly announces, “This is my new girlfriend.”   

They are incredulous

There is a stunned silence.

Garry tries again to contact Andrea . . .

Garry is trying to contact Andrea, 

. . . and gets the recorded message

but all he gets is a recorded message.   

Laughter is heard

Aaron and his mother are laughing at the television programme they are watching, 

"You should be ashamed!"

and Garry growls, “I don’t know why you’re laughing – you should be ashamed!   You know perfectly well what you’ve done – 

"Telling her about Sheryl!"

“telling her about Sheryl!”

Britt maintains that it just came up naturally in conversation, and he demands, “What’s wrong with you, Britt?”   When Aaron objects to Garry speaking to his mother like that, he is told, “You can shut up, too!”

"Has she dumped you?"

“Has she dumped you?” enquires Aaron, which causes Garry to lose his temper, 

It looks as if things could turn nasty

and he looks in danger of becoming violent.

"I liked her – thanks, Britt!"

“I liked her – thanks, Britt!” he snarls and storms out of the room.

"Sounds like mission accomplished to me, Mam"

“Well, it sounds like mission accomplished to me, Mam,” says Aaron, 

His mother is not so confident

but Britt does not look too sure.
