Kath is not happy with her purchase

Kath is looking at some bunting which she has acquired and does not seem particularly pleased with it;  

She hears the door open

she quickly hides it away when the door opens, but then finds it is Mark.   “You gave me a fright there!” she gasps, “I thought you were Brynmor.”

He regards this is a very nice welcome home, and she tells him she is trying to hide the bunting from him;  

"In case he thinks you're a pirate?"

“Why – in case he thinks you’re a pirate?” Mark laughs.

She explains that they were supposed to decorate the Deri for a surprise party;  

"Seafaring, they said"

“Seafaring, they said, to go with the cruise theme – look at them!   The picture wasn’t very clear – and you can’t go on the Internet anyway with Brynmor here.”   

Then the door opens again and she is even more panic-stricken;  

"Mark - you're back!"

Brynmor is pleased to see Mark back again;  he says that last night he went out with Ricky and his mates.   

"One pint became two and then three"

“One pint became two and then three . . .”   Brynmor can see that he had a good time.   Mark goes upstairs for a shower.

At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion informs Arwen that they are leaving early this morning;  “I want to call in to see Gaynor – come on, the taxi will be here in a minute.”   

"I'll go on the bus"

Arwen replies that she will go on the bus;  “I don’t want to be late, as, if you’re chatting with Mrs Llywelyn . . .”   

"I'm only dropping something off"

Ffion protests that she is only dropping something off, but Arwen is adamant, “I want to go on the bus – 

"I don't want to arrive with you!"

“I don’t want to arrive with you – that’s the problem!   Now leave me alone!”   Ffion angrily stalks off.

Siôn is planning his journey to Bristol

“One hour and forty minutes to Bristol,” says a voice on Siôn’s phone, surprisingly in Welsh, as he looks up his route to Bristol.   

"I've been worried about you, Tesni"

Tesni comes into the house, and he welcomes her back, remarking that he has been worried about her.   She answers that she has only been to Cardiff, and he asks if she had a good time;  

“Yes, but I’m knackered – I need a shower,” she tells him and is about to go upstairs.

"Did you tell your friends the good news"

“Did you tell your friends the good news?” is his next question, and she says that she did not.   “It is a bit early, I suppose,” he goes on, 

"I've got a surprise for you"

“But I’ve got a surprise for you –  I’ve bought baby clothes and maternity dresses from Apêl Maenan.”

Iolo arrives at that moment

Iolo comes in 

"There was no need"

just as she insists that there was no need, but Siôn points out, “It’s much greener than buying new ones – and babies grow so quickly, don’t they, Iolo?”

"I've left the clothes for you to try on"

Siôn is now going over to see Gaynor;  “I’ve left the clothes on the bed for you to try on,” he says, “There’s plenty of room in them – so that you can grow over the next few months.”

Tesni says nothing

Tesni goes upstairs without another word, 

"You're going too far, Dad"

and Iolo considers that he is going too far.   

"She's the one who wants to play games"

“She’s the one who wants to play games,” his father smiles and leaves the house.

Ffion has brought something for Gaynor

Ffion is returning something which she found at the back of a drawer in the head teacher’s desk.   

"I thought I'd lost it"

Gaynor is very grateful;  “I thought I’d lost this.”

It is a keyring with a small photo of Izzy.   Hywel is just leaving and reminds Gaynor that he is expecting a parcel of ink cartridges to be delivered today.

“Sorry, I won’t be here – I have to go shopping in Carmarthen,” she replies, “I have to fetch a parcel – and if I don’t pick it up, they’ll send it back.”

"Your parcel's more important than mine, is it?"

He grumpily assumes that her parcel is more important than his and storms out.   Ffion remarks that it is nice for some, going shopping;  Gaynor is in a hurry to leave.

"I've got a taxi waiting outside"

Ffion also has a taxi waiting, and has a great deal to do at school;  “I knew this job was going to mean a lot of work, but I didn’t realise how much it would affect Arwen.   

"She's behaving like a teenager"

“She’s only ten, and she’s behaving like a teenager.”

“Well, I’m the last person to give you advice on being a mother,” Gaynor sighs, “It’s just hard being the daughter of the head teacher.”   Ffion mentions that Arwen was selected for the county’s football trials, and is refusing to go, to spite her mother.   

"You just have to be supportive"

Gaynor simply advises her to be supportive.

Mark has smartened himself up

Kath is surprised to see Mark looking smart and wearing a tie;  

"You're not up in court, are you?"

“You’re not up in court, are you?” she demands.   Mark is going to see the bank manager, and she assumes that it is about an overdraft.

“No, I’m going to ask him for a mortgage,” Mark declares, 

"It's time I stood on my own two feet"

“It’s time I found my own place – stood on my own two feet,” and off he goes.   

Kath is worried

Kath looks very concerned.

"Well, here we are"

Siôn’s car stops and Gaynor gets out;  “We went around the world with that app, but here we are.”   

"Are you sure about this?"

Siôn asks if she is sure about this, 

"It's definitely the right house"

but she is adamant that this is the right house.   He explains that he did not mean that, but asks if she is sure that she wants to do this.

“It’s important that the family is told about the condition as soon as possible,” she emphasies, but he maintains that she should have gone through the adoption agency.   “But it might be just a note in her file – I need to speak to Gwen’s parents today,” Gaynor insists.   

"I thought her name was Olivia now"

Siôn thought that her name was Olivia now;  “But she’ll always be Gwen to me, won’t she?” Gaynor replies, “I’m going now – you can sit in the car if you want.”

"It's great that Mark is thinking about a house"

“It’s great that Mark is thinking about buying a house,” Brynmor comments, but Kath is quite convinced that he is not going to do that.   

"Staying with Ricky has started this nonsense!"

It is spending time with Ricky that has started all this nonsense. she explains, and then Mark comes back in a very bad mood.

"He turned me down flat!"

“He turned me down flat!   He said that the wages from the Post coming in and being part of a window cleaning business 

"I don't fit their lending criteria!"

meant that I did not fit their lending criteria!”   Brynmor knows that a lot of people have the same problem, and Kath regards it as a stupid idea.   

"I'll never afford my own place!"

“I’ll never afford my own place,” Mark groans.

"Perhaps I can help"

Brynmor suggests, “If it’s a deposit you need, perhaps I can help,” 

"You said you wanted to stand on your own two feet"

but Kath is quick to reject that idea, reminding Mark that he said that he wanted to stand on his own two feet.   

Mark is minded to accept the offer, but is forbidden to do so by his mother;  “You’ll have to stay here until you’ve saved enough to put a deposit down,” she instructs, 

"Probably collecting your pension by then!"

“You’ll probably be collecting your pension by then!”   Mark is very deflated.

Gaynor walks up the the front door

Gaynor approaches the front door of the house and knocks;  

"Can I help you?"

a woman answers, “Can I help you?” (in English, because this is Bristol).

"I was just wondering if . . ."

Gaynor begins, “Sorry to disturb you – I was just wondering whether . . .”   

She sees a small girl inside

Then she sees a small girl inside, asking her mother where her coat is, and is told that it is in the kitchen, under the other coats.

The woman in keen to get rid of her caller . . .

The woman informs Gaynor, “Sorry, I’m not buying anything, and I’m not religious, neither,” 

. . . and the door is shut

before closing the door.   Gaynor turns, looking even more confused and walks back towards the car.

"She was there – Gwen was there!"

“She was there – Gwen was there!” she tells Siôn, 

The door opens again . . .

and at that moment the girl she had seen, with another, comes out of the door.   “I want to leave!” exclaims Gaynor, “Can we go, please, Siôn?” 

. . . and two girls come out

as the two girls walk past.

Tesni is trying on maternity wear

There is a knock on the door at Y Felin, as Tesni, wearing one of the maternity dresses, comes downstairs;  

"Iolo's left his phone behind"

the visitor is Lois, who has come to collect Iolo’s phone, which he has left behind, and explains that she works with Iolo.

“I was upstairs, trying maternity clothes on,” says Tesni, rather sheepishly, 

"I didn't know you were pregnant"

and Lois did not know that she was pregnant.   

"I'm not!"

She is very perplexed when Tesni admits that she is not, 

Lois picks up the phone . . .

and points out Iolo’s phone, which is on the table.   

. . . and quickly leaves

Lois has a puzzled look as she leaves, and Tesni feels completely stupid.

"Sorry it was a wasted journey, Siôn"

Back at Llwyncelyn, Gaynor apologises that it was a wasted journey for Siôn, but is grateful that he went with her.   

"I'm pleased I could help"

He is pleased that he could help, and she is adamant that the family still needs to know;  however he recommends that she goes through the correct channels.

Hywel is back home

Hywel returns home and is told that Siôn has been discussing books with her;  

"Let me know what you have decided"

“Let me know what you have decided,” he tells Gaynor, and leaves the house.   Hywel asks how it went in Carmarthen, and wonders where are all the bags.

"I just got the parcels"

She answers that she did not buy anything, but simply got the parcels;  “Well, where are they?” he demands and she replies that they are in the car, and is keen to go and fetch them herself.   

He cannot understand what is going on

He thinks there is something strange going on.

"Meic and Anita had good parties at the Deri"

Kath is looking on the laptop at old photos, and remarks, “Heavens – Meic and Anita used to have good parties when they ran the Deri – and Curry Nights.   Was Curry Night on a Wednesday, Mark?” she asks, but he does not say anything.

"We coud go out for a curry tonight"

Brynmor suggests that they could have a curry tonight, but she argues that she has a lot on at the moment;  “It would give us a chance to spend some time together,” he stresses.   

"I'll see you in the Deri at six"

She agrees, and he will see her in the Deri  at six o’clock.

"I want some help with this party!"

As soon as he has gone, Kath insists that she wants some help with this party;  “The Deri wants to know what food we want, and I have no idea – come on – Brynmor’s used to posh food, isn’t he?   This is a special birthday for him!”

"I don't think they do caviar in the Deri!"

Mark is showing no interest whatsoever and is reading a copy of ‘Back Street Heroes’ comic, but does comment, “I don’t think they do caviar in the Deri!”

"I have to sort something out"

Kath is beginning to panic, and he is confident that she cannot afford anything posh, 

"And how are you going to pay for all this?"

demanding how she is going to pay for all this.   

"The bank card that Brynmor gave to me"

“Well, I shall use the bank card that Brynmor gave to me,” she answers.

"You're going to make him pay for it?"

“Right, you’re going to organise this party for Brynmor – and make him pay for it?” demands Mark, and his mother argues that he said she could use it for whatever she wanted – 

"Well, it is an emergency"

and she regards this as an emergency.

"You refused on my behalf!"

“He said he was willing to give me a deposit – but you refused on my behalf!” Mark rages.   Kath maintains that she does not want him to think they are taking advantage of him.  

“You’ll never be able to afford a mortgage, even with a deposit – you’d be running back to Brynmor for more money all the time!” she says, and Mark thanks her for having faith in him.   

Kath takes out the bank card . . .

He goes upstairs;  Kath takes the credit card from the drawer 

. . . and looks determined

and looks determined.

Ffion calls for Arwen . . .

Ffion comes home, carrying a box, and calls for Arwen;  

. . . and apologises

“I’m sorry – you were right – it’s better for you to go the bus with your friends than in a taxi with your mother, and be embarrassed.   I understand – I was the same at your age.”

"Can I go now?"

Arwen appears to have been taking no notice and is engrossed in her iPad;  she asks, “Can I go now?”   Ffion points out a present for her daughter, but she shows little interest.   

Ffion produces the present

Inside the box is a pair of boots, 

"I don't need new boots"

but Arwen snarls, “I don’t need new boots.”

"If you change your mind . . ."

Her mother suggests, “These are so cool, and if you change your mind about going to the county trials, you’ll look the part.”

"You can't bribe me with boots!"

“How many times do I have to tell you?   I’m not going to the trial, all right?   You can’t bribe me with boots!” Arwen sternly informs her, and walks out of the room.

Tyler comes into the Deri

Mark is looking despondent at the bar in the Deri, when Tyler comes in and is told;  “I’m not out for the night – I just needed a break from the house.   

"Being stuck like a gooseberry there"

“Thinking about being stuck like a gooseberry there . . .”

Tyler maintains that he can leave Maes-y-Deri any time he likes;  “There aren’t bars on the windows – it’s never too late to start enjoying life.   

"The bloke laughed in my face!"

Mark reveals that he went to the bank earlier to try and get a mortgage, where the bloke more or less laughed in his face.

Tyler knows that bank managers are not famous for their charm, and Mark has reached the conclusion that he is stuck with his mother and Brynmor for ever.   

"I may be able to help, Mark"

Tyler thinks that possibly he can help.

"Where is she, then?"

Iolo is watching the television when Siôn comes in, asking, “Where is she, then?”   Iolo believes that Tesni is upstairs, probably trying on her new clothes.   

"It's only a matter of time"

“Look, it’s only a matter of time before she admits she’s lying,” his father insists, “Then we can all move on.”

"You went to see Gaynor ages ago!"

Tesni comes downstairs, angrily demanding, “Where have you been?   You went over to see Gaynor ages ago!   I said I wanted to talk – but you don’t care, do you?”

"Why don't you have some Kombucha?"

He replies that her hormones are over the place and suggests she should have some Kombucha, which will do both her and the baby good.   

"I don't want blinking Kombucha!"

“I don’t want blinking Kombucha!” she roars, “And stop going on and on about the baby!   

"There is no baby!"

“There is no baby!”

Siôn feigns surprise

Siôn looks knowingly at Iolo, then expresses mock surprise;  

You knew that already!"

she snarls, “But you knew that already!   You had a vasectomy years ago – you knew it was impossible for me to be pregnant!   Unless you thought I’d slept with someone else.”

Iolo thinks that this may be his cue to be somewhere else, and goes for a walk.   

Tesni throws down a bag, telling Siôn, “Take these back to Apêl Maenan – I’ve had enough of your game!”

"I'm not the only one who's been playing games!"

He responds that he is not the only one who has been playing games;  “You made me think you were expecting someone else’s baby!”

"You should be able to communicate better!"

She realises that and is sorry, but reminds him, “You’re a middle-aged man, and you should be able to communicate better than a 15-year-old boy!   Why didn’t you tell me the truth?”   

"I didn't think you'd understand"

He says that he did not think she would understand, 

"You don't know me at all, do you?"

and she sighs, “You don’t know me at all, do you?”

"To put things into perspective"

Siôn agrees that perhaps he does not, and proposes that they should take a step back for a while – to put things into perspective.   

"I'll give you a bit of perspective, Siôn"

“I’ll give you a bit of perspective, Siôn,” she growls, “I slept with someone else over the weekend – one of Luned’s friends – and it was great!”   

He has no answer to that

He is left speechless.

"You'd be independent"

Tyler is trying to persuade Mark to move into number 7, but he is not sure.   “You’ll be independent, still living in the village – and I’d get some company, and help with the rent, of course.   It’s win-win!”   

"What if we fell out?"

Mark wonders what would happen if they fell out, but Tyler is confident that would not happen.

Kath is still talking bunting

Kath comes in to meet Brynmor, and tells Mark, “I’ve found some more bunting on the Internet and I want your opinion.”   She indicates to Tyler that there is to be a surprise party, 

"I'm busy, all right, Mam?"

but Mark is not interested, maintaining that he is busy.   “And fancy dress – a captain’s hat for Brynmor,” she goes on.

"I'm talking to Tyler"

Mark points out that he is talking to Tyler, 

"This bachelor pad, is it?"

and she suspects it is about the bachelor pad he is going to buy.   “No – Tyler’s offered me a room at his house,” Mark announces.   

"Good for you, Mark!"

Brynmor encourages him, but Kath is convinced this is because of the difference of opinion they had;  Tyler predicts that they will get on very well.

"He's not going anywhere!"

“Don’t listen to him – this is nonsense – he’s not going anywhere!” she rants, and Mark is about to leave – 

"I'm going home – to pack my stuff"

in order to go home and pack his stuff.   Brynmor believes that he is serious, 

"He's only bluffing"

but Kath is sure that he is bluffing, and will not go anywhere.

Hywel crosses the road

Hywel crosses the road and encounters Gaynor coming out of CwmFM;  

"I left your parcel in CwmFM"

she admits that she was rather selfish earlier, but advises that his parcel has come and she left it in CwmFM.   “Do you fancy a quick drink in the Deri, if you have time?”   

"When I've printed this report"

Once he has printed his report, he will join her there.

That is a completely different address

She takes a letter from her bag, addressed to Olivia Williams, although at a different address and postcode from that she was looking up on Google Earth in the previous episode, 

Into the pillar box it goes

and puts it in the pillar box.
