"Are these Chester's pants?" |
Dani is stocking the new shop with a great amount of children’s clothing when Tyler approaches; Dani mutters, “Britt – you said this was clean stuff – are these Chester’s pants?”
"I need a word with you, Dan" |
“Listen, I need a word with you,” says Tyler,
Anita is just passing |
then Dani notices Anita walking across the road, imploring her to do another bag of washing.
"I'll give you a big discount" |
Dani promises to give her a big discount on stuff for Ifan, and she finally agrees, if Dani will bring it over quickly.
"Wilko attacked me" |
Then she turns to Tyler, who insists, “I think I know who attacked me – Wilko.”
"As in Marc Wilko?" |
She cannot believe that he is serious,
"I've seen the boots he was wearing" |
but he continues, “I’ve seen the boots he was wearing, Dan.”
"You accused Eifion not long ago" |
She advises him to stop this, pointing out that he accused Eifion not long ago, but he is adamant, “Wilko has never liked me since that case with Aled.”
Wilko emerges from his front door . . . |
She is sure that he is imagining things, and at that moment Wilko comes out of his house.
“You can’t go round accusing everyone, Tyler – people will think you’ve lost the plot,” she warns, but he will not accept the possibility that he is wrong.
As the DI is approaching, Tyler walks away.
"I'm very stressed!" |
Dani tells him that she is not OK, but is very stressed, and Wilko looks anxiously along the street at Tyler.
Gaynor is cake-making |
At Llwyncelyn, Gaynor is making a cake with her hand-held mixer; she tells Hywel that she hopes to get it in the oven by one o’clock.
"Why are you making such a fuss?" |
He cannot understand why she is making such a fuss,
"We haven't had a welcome home meal" |
she explains, “We haven't had a welcome home meal for Lois – I thought I had coloured icing – I want to write a message.”
He will have a look in the shop, as he has to go to the village, and she tells him that her purse is on the sideboard.
In her purse he finds a receipt |
As he helps himself,
The postcode is at the top of Whiteladies Road in Clifton |
he finds a receipt from Clifton, Bristol BS8 2XS. “Gaynor, you didn’t tell me that you’ve been to Bristol,” he says, puzzled, and she has to quickly improvise.
"There was nothing at Cardiff so I went . . . " |
“I told you I was going shopping, didn’t I? I was going to Cardiff, but there was nothing there, so I decided to go for a spin –
". . . to The Mall at Bristol instead" |
“to that huge shopping centre on the outskirts – but there was nothing there either.”
He had been told that she was going shopping in Carmarthen, and is not convinced by her answer; “No, Cardiff – you don’t listen to a word I say, do you?” He concludes that she is hiding something.
Tyler is brooding |
Tyler is sitting, brooding, at number 7 when Mark comes downstairs
"Another game of skittles?" |
and wants to have another game of skittles.
Here comes Kath again, with a casserole |
Kath comes in through the back door, this time with a casserole that Brynmor has made for Mark; she says he can heat it up later.
"I thrashed him at skittles" |
Mark explains Tyler’s gloomy disposition is because he has been thrashed at skittles,
"I'm glad you're enjoying yourselves" |
and she considers it nice that they are enjoying themselves.
Those skittles are about to go flying |
As she leaves, Tyler scatters all the skittles from the board in a fit of rage.
"Why doesn't anyone believe me?" |
“Why doesn’t anyone believe me?” he shouts, “I’m telling the truth!” Mark is increasingly worried.
"I have to pick up Arwen from school" |
As Hywel passes the bookshop, Siôn is coming out, as he has to pick up Arwen from school.
The phone slips from Siôn's hand |
“I’m glad I’ve seen you – can you have a look at my phone?” says Siôn, “Some of the apps won’t work – weather, maps,” then he accidentally drops it on the ground.
"That's not going to help very much" |
“Treating it like that is not going to help very much,” Hywel comments, and he can immediately see there is nothing major wrong with it.
"Have you checked the location?" |
“Have you checked the location?”
The DI walks past |
The DI walks past, but does not say much,
"What sort of tenant is her, then?" |
and Siôn asks what sort of tenant he is.
“As long as he pays the rent, who cares?” is Hywel’s reply, then he see some evidence that Siôn was in Bristol the other day, but Siôn denies it.
"Your phone says otherwise, Siôn" |
“Well, your phone says otherwise,” Hywel maintains,
"I said there's something wrong with it" |
and Siôn blusters that there is something wrong with it. “Yes, it must be the software,” is Hywel’s cynical comment, “I’ll bring it back in half an hour.”
Tesni ignores Siôn |
Siôn suddenly notices Tesni about to go into number 10 and calls to her, but she takes no notice.
Gaynor is back from her run . . . |
Gaynor is feeling tired, after her run, and when she has checked on the progress of the cake, takes a bottle of water from the fridge.
. . . and hears giggling |
She hears the sound of giggling,
Rhys is in a state of undress |
and Rhys, dressed only in his underpants, appears in the kitchen to fetch some wine. “Do you want red or white?” he asks Lois.
"Bring ice cubes as well . . ." |
From her position at the foot of the stairs, she chooses white, adding, “And bring ice cubes as well –
". . . they're not for the wine!" |
“they’re not for the wine!”
"Such debauchery in my house!" |
Gaynor looks horrified.
"Are you going to answer that, Tes?" |
Jaclyn is washing up at number 10 when Siôn bangs on the door, shouting for Tesni. She asks her daughter, “Are you going to answer that?”
"I don't want to talk to him" |
but Tesni replies that she does not want to talk to him, neither does she want her mother to answer it.
“You haven’t spoken to him since you came back here,” says Jaclyn, “You can’t avoid him for ever. Just go and talk to him – sort it out. I know I’m not Mr White’s number one fan, but you have been happy lately, talking about children and the future – what’s happened, love?”
"He's not the man I thought he was" |
Tesni sighs that he is not the man she thought he was.
Arwen does not fancy that jam |
Arwen at Y Felin opens a jar of jam, sniffs it, and replaces the lid; Siôn brings in some sausage rolls, fresh from the oven,
"I hate sausage rolls" |
and she remarks, “I hate sausage rolls, so he offers a sandwich instead, but she shakes her head.
"Pasta!" |
“Pasta!” is her food of choice, so Siôn will prepare some.
“Where’s Tesni?” she asks, “I haven’t seen her for ages.”
Siôn is lost for words |
Siôn does not know quite how to explain this,
"Have you finished?" |
and Arwen continues, “Have you finished?”
"No – we're very happy" |
He assures her that he and Tesni are very happy.
"You can do a lot better than her!" |
“Oh – sad – you can do a lot better than her!” is Arwen’s evaluation.
"I just need to write 'Welcome Home' on it" |
Hywel arrives home and Gaynor asks what he thinks of her efforts; “I just need to write ‘Welcome Home’ on it and it’ll be perfect.”
Hywel obviously has something on his mind |
She can tell by the fact that he has said nothing that there is a problem.
"Something has really shocked me" |
“I’ve just discovered something that’s really shocked me,” he begins, and she realises that he knows,
"We don't want a big scene" |
but insists that she does not want a big scene. “So we are supposed to play happy families? How long has it been going on?” he demands.
"I caught them – you know – at it!" |
“I’ve only just found out myself,” she replies, “I came home earlier and I caught them – you know – at it!”
He has no idea what she is talking about, so she explains that it is Rhys and Lois; “From what you said, I thought you knew.”
"Rhys and Lois are . . ?" |
“Are you telling me they’re . . ?” he gasps,
"What were you talking about, then?" |
and Gaynor wonders what he has been talking about, and is keen not to make a scene about it tonight. “What? You’re all right about it, are you?” he snarls, but she would just like a normal family night tonight.
"Pretend everything's perfect, shall we?" |
“Yes – we’ll just pretend everything is perfect, shall we?” he sneers, “I’m going for a shower!”
"You're going to do well, Dan" |
Garry is at the salon, predicting that Dani will do very well; she is optimistic with the amount of attention and she has been getting, and asks if Andrea is away.
"Andrea's in Malaysia" |
“She’s in Malaysia,” he answers.
"It's odd how things turn out" |
“It’s odd how things turn out – you with an Air Hostess, me with the detective,” she comments, and he says that Wilko seems to be OK, despite being ‘one of them’. “I think so too – and Andrea’s lovely – the children love her,” she adds.
"I'm glad we both have a new start" |
He is glad that they have an opportunity to be happy again – a new start;
"Where's Garry Monk?" |
this is so unlike him that she asks, “Where’s Garry Monk?” He stresses that he means it; they may be going in different directions now
"I'll always be here for you" |
but he will always be here for her. He wishes her good luck for the opening tomorrow.
"It's not my fault!" |
Anita comes across with two large bags; “Here you go – and before you say anything, it’s not my fault! Something has run!”
"You didn't tell me to separate things" |
Dani protests that she was not told to separate things, and is not happy.
Siôn has not yet cleared the table |
There is a knock at the door of Y Felin, and Tesni walks hesitantly in,
"Sorry for disturbing you" |
apologising for disturbing Siôn; he says that he was just about to clear up, after Arwen has been there.
She returns her key |
“I was just bringing this back,” she says, and puts her key down on the table, “And I want to tell you that I’m leaving – going to London. You said we needed to take a step back.”
"I meant a step back from the lies and games" |
He points out that he meant a step back from the lies and games,
"You know we don't work any more, Siôn" |
but she adds, regretfully, “You know we don’t work any more – but thank you – you believed in me when I had no idea who I was or what I wanted.
"You made me feel special" |
“You made me feel special, so thanks for that.”
"You are special – never forget that" |
Siôn emphasises that she is special, and she must never forget that; he wonders if she can see a way through this for them.
She smiles, “Don’t you think we’ve hurt each other enough? I’m going tonight – might as well – I’m going to stay with Aled.”
"It was a lie to make you jealous" |
Finally, she confesses, “I didn’t sleep with anyone in Cardiff – it was a lie to make you jealous,”
"And it worked" |
and he says that it worked.
"I would never have been unfaithful to you, Siôn" |
“I would never have been unfaithful to you, Siôn,” and with that, she leaves the house.
"Please, Hywel, make an effort . . ." |
As they arrive in the Deri, Gaynor encourages Hywel to make an effort;
". . . it's supposed to be a celebration" |
“Remember that tonight is supposed to be a celebration.”
"Sorry we're late" |
Lois comes in with Rhys and apologises that they are late.
"You had better things to do" |
“You had better things to do,” replies Hywel, “I’ve just heard that you’ve been very busy today.” Gaynor proposes that they should order now, but he will not be silenced,
"Things have worked out great for you" |
“I just wanted to say how nice it is to have Lois back – isn’t it, Rhys? You’ve settled back in great – a roof over your head and a job! Things have worked out great for you.”
"Something's not right here" |
Rhys is beginning to think that something is not quite right, as Hywel maintains that he is over the moon;
"You're stupid enough to jump back into bed with her!" |
“A girl who almost ruined your life has got her claws in you again – and you’re stupid enough to jump back into bed with her!”
"You can't talk about Lois like that!" |
“I know that you’re shocked, but you can’t talk about Lois like that!” Rhys protests, “And she didn’t ruin my life!”
Hywel wonders what are Lois’ plans for the future; “Break his heart again while you go off on your travels again?”
Lois storms out, followed by Rhys |
Lois apologises to her mother that she is not going to stay and listen to this, but Gaynor urges Rhys not to go.
"Why did you do that, Hywel?" |
He of course takes no notice of her, and she demands, “Why did you do that, Hywel?” but worse is yet to come.
"Your affair with Siôn White!" |
“I haven’t finished yet – when were you going to tell me about you?” he growls, “The affair you’re having with Siôn White?” Gaynor laughs at the very suggestion, but he insists, “I’m not leaving until you tell me what you were doing in Bristol with Siôn – and you lied about it!”
"I went to look for Gwen" |
She realises that she is now going to have to reveal the truth; “I went to look for Gwen,”
Hywel was not expecting that |
which takes him by surprise.
"I don't want to fall out with you, Mark" |
Tyler admits that the food Kath brought for Mark was lovely, and he is sorry about his attitude earlier; “I don’t want to fall out with you.”
"It had a bigger impact than we thought" |
Mark appreciates that the attack has obviously had a bigger impact on him than had been thought, with these mood swings.
"Dani's convinced I'm imagining things" |
“Don’t you start,” Tyler groans, “Dani’s convinced that I’m imagining things – she gave me a mouthful earlier.”
“OK – I wasn’t going to tell you this, Tyler,
"Wilko said Dani's really upset about you" |
“but Wilko said that Dani is really upset about you.” Tyler had already worked out that the DI did not call to see the skittles, but Mark says that he was pretty cool; “He just asked me to look out for you, and if you started acting odd – he’s worried about you.”
"He's worried – worried he'll get caught!" |
“He’s worried all right – worried he’ll get caught!” Tyler says, “He’s trying to suss me out, and playing you, Mark.
"He's doing the same with Dani" |
“He’s doing the same with Dani!”
"Do you really think he's involved?" |
“You really do think he’s involved in the attack?” demands Mark, and Tyler is absolutely sure that it was him, which is why he is trying to convince people that Tyler is crazy.
"Why would he want to attack you?" |
Mark cannot understand why Wilko would want to attack him, and Tyler is also trying to work that out.
"We'll see what he does" |
“Now that I’ve told him I know, we’ll see what he does. If it’s true, right, he’ll have to try and shut me up – so I need friends at my side –
"Are you at my side, Mark?" |
“are you at my side, Mark?”
"Of course I am" |
He agrees that of course he is.
Tesni is about to leave Cwmderi |
Outside number 10, Tesni has put her belongings into a taxi, and her mother hopes that she will not start crying again; “It will be a brilliant experience for you,” Jaclyn tells her daughter, “Guto has gone, and now it’s your turn. You’ll be so busy enjoying yourself, you’ll forget about me.”
"I'll phone regularly, Mam" |
Tesni promises to phone regularly, and invites her mother to stay whenever she wants.
But there is no farewell Cwtch |
“You’re doing the right thing – just go and enjoy it,” Jaclyn tells her, as Tesni gets into the taxi, conspicuously omitting to hug her mother.
"Tesni – wait – don't go!" |
Siôn comes running along the street, shouting, “Tesni – wait – don’t go!” but is told by Jaclyn that he cannot stop her now.
He hands Tesni a book . . . |
He just wants her to have a book, ‘Yr Haf a Cherddi Eraill’, [Summer and other Poems] which he says is a first edition,
. . . urging her to remember the good times |
and urges her to remember the good times they had.
"I can't believe you did something so stupid!" |
Still in the Deri, Hywel snarls, “I can’t believe you went to Bristol to do something so stupid!” She insists she just wanted the family to know about the condition, but he says that the authorities can do that.
"Trying to make up for the mistakes I made with Izzy" |
“I was just trying to make up for all the mistakes I made with Izzy!” she says, and he points out that bringing Gwen back would not do that.
"I don't know what planet you live on sometimes!" |
“Imagine how hurt Rhys would be – not to mention Gwen’s family! I don’t know what planet you live on sometimes – leave Gwen’s family alone, before you really hurt someone!”
So much for the celebration meal |
He gets up and storms out of the Deri, leaving Gaynor looking miserable.
"You don't have to persevere if it's a hassle" |
Wilko is still trying to dissuade Dani, “You don’t have to persevere with the shop if it’s a hassle,”
"I can't stop now" |
but she argues that she cannot stop now, as she has gone so far.
He turns the persuasion up a notch |
“Look, I know you think I worry about it too much, but if I tell you something, you might understand why. You know I specialise in witness protection – a few years ago there was a witness, who was very important to me. It was a complex case – I wanted her to go into witness protection, but she refused.
"He killed her" |
“The person she testified against went after her – and killed her.”
"So that's why you want to look after me" |
“So that’s why you want to look after me,” realises Dani, but he alleges that he does not want to scare her. “You said someone was killed!” she replies,
"Am I in that kind of trouble?" |
“Am I in that kind of trouble?”
He piles on the pressure |
“I need you to understand – Dylan’s out of the way, but a lot of dangerous members of his network are still around. I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you, Dan. You’ll be safe while I’m here.”
"So I should hide in the flat?" |
As intended, she is now very frightened, and imagines that he wants her to close the shop and hide in in the flat.
"I think we should move away from here" |
“I think we should move away from here – you, the children and me – I’m completely serious,” he assures her.
