Kyle turns up on the doorstep again
Kyle is back and presses the doorbell of Cysgod y Glyn; he does not look at all happy.
"Hi, babe"
When Eleri answers, he simply says, “Hi, babe.”
Siwsi has to get to work
Indeg is taking a photograph of her breakfast for some reason, while Siwsi is in a hurry to get to work, as she is feeling better today.
"Why the depressed face, then?"
“Why the depressed face, then?” Indeg demands.
"Griffiths is expecting me at APD"
“Eleri wants me at Brynawelon, but Griffiths is expecting me at APD – I can’t do both jobs – it’s making me ill.”
"I want the pink one!
Greta comes downstairs, informing her father, “I want the pink one!”
"Meleri says she cannot wear pink"
Iolo explains that she wants to wear a pink dress to Eluned’s party after school, but Meleri says that she cannot wear pink – because she is.
"She's got a saucepan face"
“Don’t worry, love you’re going to look a lot prettier than Meleri, Indeg predicts, “She’s got a saucepan face – flat and round!” Iolo regards that as rather mean for an eight year-old girl.
“Do you know what? I’m going to sort a huge surprise for you when you get home,” Indeg goes on, which Iolo think sounds very exciting.
"Mileri's got a saucepan face!"
As they leave for school, Greta says, “Meleri’s got a saucepan face!” Siwsi has to leave as well to break the news to Griffiths that she is going to let him down again.
"It's about time you admitted defeat"
Indeg suggests that it is about time Siwsi admitted defeat; “I know you need the cash, but if you’re not careful, you’re going to risk being sacked by both APD and Brynawelon.
Kyle is inside
Now that Kyle is inside Cysgod y Glyn,
"Things are over between us"
Eleri says, “Don’t be like this, Kyle – I’m sorry, but things are over between us and I want a divorce.”
"That's not the impression I got last time"
He replies that is not the impression he got the last time they were together;
"I know what's going on"
“I know what’s going on – you’ve made a life here and it was wrong of me to expect you to drop everything, just like that.”
"I'm not the person I was in New York"
She insists that is not the situation; “I’m not the person I was in New York – a lot can happen in three years!”
"The only thing that kept me going . . ."
He complains, “Not in prison – a lot of routine – I just practised my Welsh, right? The only thing that kept me going was thinking about us – your face, your skin –
“I would never have gone to prison for anyone else.”
"I'm not going back with you"
She assures him that she will never forget what he did for her, “But I’m not going back with you.”
He does not like this, so as she picks up her briefcase and prepares to leave for Brynawelon, he snarls, “Eleri, I haven’t been through three years of hell for nothing. I’ll pick you up at one – we’re going out for lunch.”
She walks out
She walks out of the flat.
Ieuan resumes his messaging
At APD, Griffiths is typing industriously on his laptop; it is another message to Janet, which reads, ‘Tired, but happy to be at work. I didn’t sleep well last night.’
He waits for her reply to arrive; ‘You know I’m here any time’.
Indeg and Siwsi arrive
The door opens and both Indeg and Siwsi arrive; “Hey, Tycs,” Indeg greets Ieuan, who is angry that Siwsi is late.
Ieuan complains
“I haven’t done the health and safety checks yet and we need to do a scheduled delivery now!” he moans.
"I'm needed at Brynawelon"
Siwsi gives him the unwelcome news that she cannot stay, as she is needed at Brynawelon.
“You might as well work there full-time!” he rages.
"She's going to resign"
“It’s funny you should say that, Tycs, because she’s going to resign,” Indeg tells him, “She’s really stressed with everything.”
"If that's what you want . . ."
Ieuan simply tells them to go away, if that is what they want –
". . . but don't expect any back pay"
“But don’t expect any back pay – your wages will cover the businesses we let down!”
Siwsi protests that is not fair,
"Get out of my sight, now!"
but he continues, “Life isn’t fair it’s time you learned that – get out of my sight, now!”
"He had no reason to talk to me like that"
Outside, Siwsi protests that he had no reason to talk to her like that; “I need the money – I’ve worked for it!”
"No – don't do that"
She is about to go back inside, but is stopped by Indeg.
"Why don't you work for him?"
Then Siwsi suggests, “Why don’t you work for him? He's desperate and you can persuade him to give me my money. Come on, you’re not doing much else.”
"People rely on me"
Indeg loudly asserts, “I’m an influencer and beautician – people rely on me.”
Indeg is left with Siwsi's fleece
Siwsi turns the tables by stressing, “Inds, I’m relying on you, OK?” as she hands over her APD fleece.
"Fashion crime, I'd say . . ."
Indeg walks back inside; she tells Tycs, “Fashion crime, I’d say, but there we are –
". . . but I'll get my reward in heaven"
“I’ll get my reward in heaven, I suppose,” as she puts on the fleece.
There is a sound of another message arriving on the laptop, so he quickly closes it
"You're Mr Popular, aren't you?"
and she describes him as Mr Popular. “Poor Siwsi,” she goes on, “What do you want me to do?”
"What about our nails and things?"
“Are you sure about this?” he demands, “What about your nails and things?”
“OK, Tycs – my truth – I hate this. More static than an electricity pylon, but I slay with interior design and I can sell snow to a snowman. So, what do you want me to do?”
"What do you know about flat roofs?"
He asks what she knows about flat roofs
and she simply looks rather puzzled.
The brasserie features again
At the brasserie, again, Eleri orders, “Chicken Caesar salad,” while Kyle will have Steak Frites, rare.
"A fresh start"
He raises his glass to, “A fresh start,”
Eleri does not agree
so she puts down her glass.
"I've booked three weeks in the Maldives"
He announces that he has a surprise for her; “I’ve booked three weeks for us in the Maldives.”
She is not going to there with him, either
Eleri makes it quite clear that there is no way she is going to the Maldives with him, but he insists that they need a chance to get to know each other again;
"Do you remember how wonderful it was"
“Do you remember how wonderful it was last time? It was . . . paradise.”
She agrees that it was, “But I don’t feel the same way now – not about us as a couple. I don’t love you any more.”
Jinx comes in . . .
He demands, “Can you love anyone?” Eleri replies that she can and that she does love someone else, at the precise moment that Jinx happens to walk in,
. . .and greets someone
go across to the bar and shake someone’s hand.
“The lodger,” concludes Kyle, but Jinx has just noticed Eleri there
"This is a nice surprise"
“I’ve been trying to phone you, he says,
"Connor's going to commission a piece"
“You know Connor, the owner of this place, he saw my work on Instagram and he’s going to commission a piece.”
"We're having a meeting, Huw"
Eleri replies that is great and introduces Kyle to Huw Jenkins, a local artist, explaining that they are having a meeting.
"Pleased to meet you"
He points out that everyone calls him Jinx and shakes hands with Kyle. “OK, see you later,” says Jinx.
"See you later?"
Kyle wants her to explain the ‘see you later’, so she improvises that she is organising an exhibition of his work because he is an artist. He seems eager to know if Garry has anything to do with this exhibition.
Eleri nips off to the Ladies
“No, just me,” she answers, “Excuse me – I need the loo.”
Obviously Indeg has been doing some quick learning;
Indeg sounds very knowledgable . . .
she tells a customer, “With the EDM membrane, wall trim, gutter drip and corner pieces, the total comes to £438, please.”
. . . which pleases Ieuan
Ieuan appears very impressed, as she further explains,
"That flat roof should last longer than you"
“With the membrane, that flat roof should last longer than you. Move the van around the back and we’ll help you load it.”
"It's the Griffiths selling genes"
“The Griffiths selling genes remain strong in our lineage,” comments Ieuan,
"My boredom threshold is through the roof"
but she maintains that her boredom threshold is through the roof – flat, slate or thatched.
He was thinking of asking her to work there – a few half days a week;
"You could earn money"
“You could earn money and a job might do you good.”
She insists that she has already got a job; “I help people to be the best version of themselves – we all need some help with that.
"A builder's yard isn't really me"
“Anyway, a builder’s yard isn’t really me.”
"Who is this for?"
That she notices a particular can of paint and asks who it is for; “Nobody – they sent them because that colour has been discontinued.”
She asks if she can have it,
"It's fate that I'm here today"
declaring, “It’s fate that I’m here today, Tycs! Everything has fallen into place perfectly!”
"Not for some of us"
Ieuan groans that does not apply to everyone, as she picks up the can of paint and rushes from the shop.
"Where have you been living?"
Eleri returns to the table in the restaurant and enquires, “Where have you been living since being out?”
"A new apartment in Brooklyn for us"
Kyle replies that she must remember Jerry, the ‘realtor’, who has found a new apartment in Brooklyn – for the two of them – Bay Ridge – and he has taken out a loan until things improve.
"You'll get all the money"
She assures him that he will get all the money; “Everything we worked so hard for.”
"Worked so hard to steal, you mean"
"I just don't feel the same"
Eleri is so sorry, admitting that things would be a lot easier if she felt the same; “I just don’t.”
"I'll tell you about it tonight"
Jinx comes over again to inform Eleri that he is off now; “It went well – I’ll tell you about it tonight.”
"Why doesn't the lodger want anyone to know?"
“Why doesn’t the lodger want anyone to know that he owns Brynawelon?” demands Kyle. “His phone – I saw your chats.
"I'm not stupid"
“I’m not stupid – you would never work in a retirement home unless there was something suss going on. When you’re back with me, you won’t have to work.”
“You need to accept that my feelings have changed,” and she walks out.
Ieuan visits Anita
Ieuan is at Brynawelon to visit Anita; Siwsi brings over a cup of tea and a biscuit.
"Are you one of Meic's friends?"
Anita looks inquisitively at him; “Are you one of Meic’s friends?”
"Yes, a good friend of Meic"
He replies that he is a good friend of Meic,
"Can I have a word, Siwsi?"
then would like a quick word with Siwsi.
"I've finished my shift"
She tells him that her shift is over and she is going home.
"We could have a quick drink in the Deri"
Ieuan suggest that they could have a quick drink in the Deri; she reluctantly agrees.
Jinx is enthusiastic
Jinx is now back in the Deri, and sits down opposite Eleri.
"How did it go with Connor?"
She asks how it went with Connor; “Great – he’s officially commissioned the piece so all I need is some inspiration – and that shouldn’t be a problem now that you’re moving in with me?
"I have a gift for you . . ."
“Speaking of which, I have a gift for you – and one for me.
". . . they fit perfectly together"
“They fit perfectly together – put it on your keyring – once you’re back with me, you can try it out.”
She does appear to be very concerned about something,
Eleri is in a hurry to leave
and tells him, “Not now – sorry, I have to go!” which comes as a surprise to Jinx.
The paint job at Y Felin
At Y Felin, both Indeg and Greta are equipped with rubber gloves, splattered with paint; Greta describes the newly painted front door as, “Fabulous!”
Iolo is shocked
At that moment, Iolo comes in and is absolutely shocked by the colour of the door; “This is the huge surprise?”
"The place was far too beige"
Indeg says that she and Greta thought the place was far too beige.
"Don't blame Greta for this"
“No, don’t blame Greta for this,” he shouts
"Are you angry, Dad?"
and Greta is afraid that he is angry, but he points out, “I think we should have asked Grandad.”
Indeg protests that they wanted to turn the place into a pink palace,
"For the gals and gays!"
“For the gals and gays!” exclaims Greta.
"Have you thought what Dad will say?"
“Have you thought what Dad will say?” but Indeg does not care what a boomer like Siôn thinks. Iolo stresses that he owns the house; “I suggest you paint it boring beige again before he throws us all out on the street!”
Greta runs upstairs
This upsets Greta and she runs upstairs.
Siwsi arrives at the Deri
Siwsi arrives at the Deri, where Ieuan is waiting for her; he closes his laptop
"I'm sorry for the way I spoke to you"
and begins, “I’m sorry for the way I spoke to you this morning – the truth is I’m going to miss you terribly. Not just because you’re such a good worker, but also for all the support you’ve given me.
"I'm sorry for letting you down"
She is sorry for letting him down at a time like this, but she finds it impossible to work both jobs. Ieuan understands that and part of him is glad that she chose Brynawelon,
"I know Anita will get the best care"
because he knows that Anita will get the best care from her.
He hands her an envelope
He hands her an envelope containing her pay, plus a little something to say thank you.
"I wish I could do more to help"
“I wish I could do more to help,” she tells him, but he acknowledges that she does a lot.
"I have to go now"
Now he has to leave, as his plans have changed.
Iolo has a pizza
When Iolo comes back in, carrying a pizza, then closes the pink door behind him,
Indeg has explained the rudiments of democracy
Indeg has been explaining the principle of democracy to Greta; “Everyone can vote for their favourite . . .”
“Right, who wants food?” he asks, “A Gwern special from The Pizza Place.”
"No!"
Greta decisively tells him, “No!”
"It doesn't mean we are rude to each other"
He knows that Greta is angry with him but a difference of opinion does not mean they are rude to each other.
Siwsi admires the door
Siwsi comes back and immediately sees the pink door;
"Dadi doesn't like it"
“Dadi doesn’t like it,” Greta informs her, although he tries to insist that is not quite the case.
"Sorry for the way I reacted"
He changes his mind; he now says that he loves it and is sorry for the way he reacted.
"It's three to one"
Greta counts the people in favour of retaining the pink door, announcing, “It’s three to one.”
"The Pink Palace Committee"
Indeg explains that she has been teaching Greta about democracy and they have established the Pink Palace Committee.
"We all love the door, don't we, Siwsi?"
“The fact is, we all love the door, don’t we, Siwsi? So Siôn is in the minority – but as we are goddesses of democracy,
"We promise to paint it 'boomer' beige again"
“promise to paint it boomer beige again if Siôn hates it.”
Iolo does not want to argue with the Pink Palace Committee,
"Let's have a selfie!"
so they will have a selfie in front of the door.
"Don't show it to Dad"
“Just don’t show it to Dad, please,” begs Iolo.
The divorce document
The divorce document is lying on the table in Cysgod y Glyn
Eleri comes in . . .
when Eleri comes back in.
. . . and Kyle is completing it
Kyle looks at it, with a pen in his hand. “You left the brasserie in a hurry this afternoon,” he remarks
"I had things to do"
and she says that she had things to do.
"I hope you weren't trying to escape from me"
“I hope you weren’t trying to escape from me,” he goes on, while filling in various parts of the document.
She realises what he is doing
She suddenly notices what he is doing and he asks where the lodger is tonight.
"He's away at some motor show"
“He’s away – at some motor show.”
"Going to meet him in secret, are you?"
Kyle imagines that she is going to meet him in secret,
"No – I'm going to work"
but she maintains that she is going to work and he can come with her if he does not trust her.
He hold the document in his hands . . .
He says that he does, signing the document and picking it up.
. . . but resists her from taking it . . .
He shows it to her, but when she tries to take it from him,
. . . then tears it to pieces . . .
he refuses to let go and proceeds to tear it into small pieces.
. . . much to her displeasure
She is extreme disappointed
"Eleri, I love you . . ."
as he informs her, “Eleri, I love you.
"If I can't have you, no-one can have you."
“Remember, if I can’t have you, no-one can have you.”
