"Oi – you're supposed to be at APD"
Howard comes into the farmhouse, where Mathew is lying on the sofa and exclaims, “Oi – you’re supposed to be at APD!”
Howard replies that he is not in the mood and is told, “Griffiths needs help.”
"I have to phone the vet again"
Sioned comes in and angrily informs them, “I have to phone Grisial again – some of the cattle are sick now! Can you help me to separate them?” she asks Howard.
"If I'm not good enough to rent the place, no"
“If I’m not good enough to rent the place, no,” is the reply.
"You sort out the vet . . ."
Sioned has had enough of this; she gives Mathew the phone, telling him, “You sort out the vet,”
". . . you sort out the cattle . . ."
turns to Howard and instructs him, “You sort out the cattle –
". . . and I'm going to sort Mam!"
“and I’m going to sort Mam!” She storms out of the farmhouse.
"I asked you to tidy up!"
At Y Felin, Iolo comes in to find the place in an untidy state; “Hey, I asked you to tidy up!” Lleucu explains that she has an exam tomorrow,
"I had a tough shift last night"
while Siwsi is off to bed as she had a tough shift last night. In any case, the stuff which Iolo wants moving is not hers.
"Where's Indeg?"
He wonders where Indeg is and Lleucu suggests that she may be still in bed,
Then he door opens . . .
but at that moment the door opens and she comes in,
. . . win Indeg looking the worse for wear
looking like the morning after the night before. When she is asked where she has been, she does not reply.
Rubbish has been left by the memorial
Various litter has been left on and around the war memorial, which Gaynor describes as disgraceful; “Graffiti last week and now this!” She tells Siôn, “You need to do something about it – you are the community councillor.”
"I can't hear you, Lois"
Her phone rings, and she finds that it is a call from Lois in Thailand, but she has difficult difficulty in hearing what Lois says.
"I'm about to clear it up"
Meanwhile, Mark is passing on his round and is surprised to see the mess, which Siôn is about to clear up.
There is mail for Councillor Siôn White
“You’d better hurry up, because I’ve got lots of letters for Councillor Siôn White,” says Mark, handing them over.
"Oh, Lois . . .`'
Meanwhile, Gaynor has discovered why her daughter is ringing;
". . . are you all right, love"?"
“Are you all right, love?”
"You were with him!"
Lleucu has concluded, “I know you were with him – you’re seeing him behind my back!”
“Do you seriously think I’d forgive him after he hit me?” demands Indeg,
"Read my lips"
“Read my lips – Ows and I are over.”
"You were both in Llanelli"
Lleucu points out that they were both in Llanelli, so Indeg suspects that she is being stalked on Instagram.
"It's a big place and I didn't see him"
“Yes, I was in Llanelli yesterday, but it’s a big place – I didn’t see Ows and I don’t want to, either.”
Lleucu does not believe a word of it, stressing that Indeg has still not explained it where she was all night.
"Jordan – he lives in Trimsaran"
She answers, “His name is Jordan – he lives in Trimaran – nine for looks, three for charm – what else do you want to know?”
"I'm trying to sleep"
Siwsi comes downstairs, protesting that she is trying to sleep and demanding why they are shouting at each other.
They throw accusations back and forth
They both maintain that the other is obsessed with Ows.
Iolo comes back, so Lleucu is decides she is going to the library;
"Can you pick up Greta?"
Iolo enquires whether she can pick up Greta, as he has a job in Carmarthen, but she insists that she has too much work to do.
"Indeg can do it"
Siwsi volunteers Indeg to pick her up, as she has nothing else to do all day;
"Greta will be delighted"
Iolo says that Greta will be delighted and thanks Indeg.
"We need to talk"
In the shop flat, Eileen is surprised to see Sioned march in, demanding, “We need to talk.”
"I'm busy"
Her mother maintains that she is busy and has to take Huwi-John his lunchbox for his school trip. “About Penrhewl and Howard,” continues Sioned,
"Howard is the perfect choice"
“Howard is the perfect choice to rent Penrhewl!”
"He has no wife or children"
“Last time I checked, he didn’t have a wife or children,”says Eileen, “I want to rent Penrhewl to a family – so that it’s run properly – nobody can do that on their own.”
"He has been keeping Penrhewl going"
Sioned stresses, “The important thing is that we get tenants who know the land – Howard has been keeping Penrhewl going.”
"Only because you're doing all the paperwork"
Her mother reminds her that is because she is doing all the paperwork. Howard would not know where to start.
Sioned is quite happy to help with the paperwork to begin with, so Eileen points out that she and Mathew might as well stay in Penrhewl.
“All I’m asking is that you give him a chance,” pleads Sioned, but her mother’s mind is made up that Howard is not the man for Penrhewl.
"Someone said the same thing about Dad"
“I’m sure someone said the same thing about Dad – but he managed!” snarls Sioned.
"We'll discuss it another time"
Eileen says that they will discuss the matter another time; meanwhile, she is taking this lunchbox to the school.
Siwsi is tidying up
Siwsi is doing her best to tidy up the place at Y Felin when Indeg comes back downstairs,
"Why did you dump collecting Greta on me?"
demanding, “Why did you dump collecting Greta on me? As payback for Brynawelon?”
"I understand you had no choice, all right?"
Siwsi insists that they are OK about everything; “I understand that you had no choice, all right? I know better than anyone what it’s like to have a mother who takes advantage.
"I don't want to be thrown out"
“We’ve got a nice place here and I don’t want to be thrown out because you and Lleucu are arguing.”
Indeg is still insistent that Lleucu is obsessed with Ows,
"Iolo will side with Lleucu"
but Siwsi reminds her that Iolo is related to Lleucu, so he will side with her. “If there’s too much tension about Ows or anything else, we’ll have no alternative but to move out, babes.”
"So you want us to keep Iolo sweet"
“So you want us to keep Iolo sweet to keep our feet under the table?” Indeg realises, which Siwsi regards as a no brainer. “So that’s why you want me to pick Greta up?”
Siwsi explains that is also why she is tidying up and cooking dinner tonight.
"You smell of vodka"
Indeg praises her for being a genius, but is told, “You smell of vodka!”
"I'll get some mouthwash"
so she goes upstairs for some mouthwash.
"Have you heard from Lois?"
Colin is putting the fruit and veg outside the shop when Gaynor approaches, asking whether he has heard from Lois.
"She fell downstairs"
“She’s in hospital – she’s had an accident – she fell down the stairs. She’s waiting for a scan because they’re worried about the baby – it hasn’t moved since the accident.”
"Three missed calls"
Colin discovers that he has three missed calls on his phone.
"I'm going over there too support her"
Gaynor has decided, “This might sound rash, but I’m going to go over there to support her –
"What – Thailand?"
“on the first flight I can get.”
"You can't turn your back on sick animals"
Sioned thanks Howard for helping; he replies, “Angry or not, you can’t turn your back on sick animals.” She is sorry about her mother. He comments, “She’s never liked me and now she has the perfect excuse to get rid of me.”
Sioned assures him that she tried to persuade her mother to change her mind;
"And that made her more stubborn?"
“Don’t tell me – that made her more stubborn!” he says, just as Eileen is approaching.
“Talking about me again, are you?” Sioned enquires whether Huwi-John got his lunchbox.
"Don't pretend to be interested in your brother"
“Don’t pretend to be interested in your brother,” Eileen sneers.
“Did you want anything in particular or just an argument?” Sioned asks;
Howard thinks there may be hope
she is told that her mother wants to chat with Howard, who imagines that she may have changed her mind. She makes it clear that she has not, but is willing to listen to him –
"You can have five minutes"
she will allow him five minutes,
He hurries after her
so Howard hurries after her
"You make a better cup of tea than Eileen"
Mark is having a break on his round in MFC, where he tells Britt that she makes a better cup of tea than Eileen; Britt remarks, “I don’t pry, either.”
"Have you finished 'operation clean-up'?"
When Siôn comes in, Mark asks if he has finished ‘operation clean-up’. Siôn explains that it was food and rubbish this time; Britt points out that people have no respect.
"Who bought a box of chicken last night?"
Siôn enquires, “Britt, do you remember who bought a bucket of chicken last night? There was an MFC box amongst the rubbish.”
"I'm not trying to blame you"
He stresses that he is not trying to blame Britt at all, but would like to find out who was there. Mark maintains that he knows exactly who were there;
"Young kids with nothing better to do"
“Young kids with nothing better to do – it’s obvious, they’re bored aren’t they? Too young for the Deri – too old for after-school club.” He thanks Britt for the tea and continues on his round
"The lion is OK'
At Y Felin, as she and Greta are watching a film, Indeg is in tears, but Greta assures her that the lion is OK. Indeg says that she is crying because she is happy.
"Am I in the wrong house?"
Siwsi has laid the table for dinner, which causes Iolo to enquire, “Am I in the wrong house?”
Siwsi promises that they will keep the place tidy from now on;
"No more bras and knicks"
“No bras and knickers lying around now,” confirms Indeg.
"I've made shepherd's pie"
Siwsi hopes that he is hungry, because she has made a shepherd’s pie,
They may have had inside information from Greta"
then pretends that she had no idea that it was Iolo’s favourite.
"You didn't go to the school in that onesie?"
Iolo looks concerned and asks Indeg, “Please say you didn’t go to the school in that onesie?” She replies that she put a coat over it, so no-one noticed –
"Apart from Dani and a few mothers"
“apart from Dani – and a few mothers.
"Did Mr Handsome see you?"
Iolo hopes that ‘Mr Handsome’ did not see her; “Greta’s teacher,” so Indeg realises that he means the gay guy.
Iolo maintains that the teacher is not gay,
"Trust me – my 'gaydar' is never wrong"
but Indeg goes on, “Trust me – my ‘gaydar' is never wrong.
Eileen interrogates Howard
Eileen interrogates Howard, “But why? That’s what I would like to know.
"Why is this place so important to you?"
“Why is this place so important to you?”
"Because I know the place"
He replies that he knows the place; he is told that Sioned knows the place, but she is not happy there. “Sioned is a city girl who forced herself to start farming – but farming is in my blood. That’s why I’m better with cattle and sheep than I am with people.”
"I didn't think I had a chance to farm the place then"
Eileen continues, “But two years ago, when I was thinking of selling this place, you said I was doing the right thing.” He did not think that he had a chance to farm the place at that time.
"What would you change?"
“And if you did farm here, what would you change?”
He maintains that this sounds to him very much like an interview;
"More beef cattle"
“I wouldn’t change much, but I might keep more cattle – not dairy cattle, as we would need a proper parlour for that, which would cost a fortune. Beef cattle, in the far shed in the winter, send them out in the spring.”
"You've obviously thought about these things"
Eileen can see that he has obviously thought about these things,
"That's what every farmer does"
so he points out that is what every farmer does – thinks ahead. Eileen is still wondering how he would cope on his own. “It won’t be easy, I know that – but I’m not going to fail just because I don’t have a wife.”
"Am I going to get a chance?"
She thanks him for the chat and walks away; he asks whether he is going to get a chance and is told that it is an important decision and she does not want to rush and make a mistake.
"We'll see, yeah?"
“We’ll see, yeah?”
Gaynor is busy on the laptop
At Llwyncelyn, Colin is trying to contact Lois by phone, while Gaynor is having trouble with the laptop, trying to book a flight to Bangkok;
"Why does this website keep crashing?"
“Why does this website keep crashing?” she demands.
She tells Colin that Lois might be with the doctor. He imagines that things might have become worse;
"What if she's lost the baby?"
“What if she knocked her head? Or she’s lost the baby?” Gaynor tells him not to panic until they know exactly what has happened.
Now he has been connected to an answering machine.
"There's a flight tomorrow night"
Gaynor discovers that there is room on a flight to Bangkok tomorrow night from Heathrow
"Well, book two seats, then . . ."

. . . looking at photos of Indeg

He is aware that it is an important exam tomorrow; “Welsh!
"Dad phone earlier to wish me good luck"
“Have you heard from your father?” he asks and she says that he phoned earlier to wish her good luck. She thinks that she had better get back to the work, so he tells her, “Remember, if you need help with the Poets of the Nobility . . .”
She believes that she will be all right, so he wishes her good luck with tomorrow.
"It's the strain of the exams"
He turns to Britt, explaining that Lleucu is suffering from the strain of the exams.
"They need somewhere to go and something to do"
He goes on, “I’ve been thinking about what Mark said about our youngsters – I’m not sure what the answer is, but they need somewhere to go and something to do.”
"There used to be a youth club in the vestry"
Britt recalls that they used to be a youth club in the vestry and clubs in Yr Antur. Siôn would love to find the money to resurrect them . . . “Mind you, if Garry is thinking of buying Bethania . . .”
"Perhaps you could try to find out more"
Britt has not heard any more about that, so Siôn suggests that perhaps she could try to find out more.
"I can't believe she's even considering it"
At Penrhewl, Mathew cannot believe that Sioned’s mother is even considering it,
"Howard is right for Penrhewl!"
but Sioned is convinced that Howard is right for Penrhewl. “APD will be fine – there are plenty of builders,” she insists.
“So this place is more important than my business?” he moans,
"Don't be so thin-skinned"
but she tells him not to be so thin-skinned.
"APD's about to go bust!"
“APD’s about to go bust and it’s this place’s fault!” he snaps.
"The vet is here"
They are interrupted by Howard who tells them that the vet has just arrived; Sioned will go out to see her.
"Sorry if I've come between you"
Howard is sorry if he has come between the two of them,
"Penrhewl's the problem, not you"
but Mathew replies that Penrhewl is the problem, not him.
Howard reassures him, “I don’t think you need to worry – Eileen doesn’t want me here. The only reason she spoke to me is because Sioned was pestering her –
"I'm the last person she wants to farm here"
“I’m the last person she wants to farm here.” He walks out of the house again.
Britt puts more drumsticks in to cook
Britt is cooking chicken drumsticks
Colin comes in
when Colin comes into MFC, asking if she has a minute.
"I want to ask you something"
“I want to ask you something.”
Lleucu finds that there is no-one around . . .
Lleucu comes into Y Felin and, seeing no-one around,
. . . looks in Indeg's bag . . .
pokes into Indeg’s bag
. . . and removes a lipstick
and takes out one of her lipsticks. Indeg comes downstairs
"You're a genius"
and tells Lleucu that she will be fine in the exams because she is a genius; “And I’m sorry about this morning – I had a hangover –
"When I have a hangover . . ."
“and when I have a hangover, I’m a bit of a monster. And if you add a one night stand . . .”
"Save me all the details!"
Lleucu does not want to hear all the lurid details,
They appear to be mates again . . .
agreeing that they are mates again,
. . . nut Lleucu has purloined the lipstick
but she is clutching the lipstick out of sight.
"Thailand – tomorrow?"
“Thailand – tomorrow?” gasps Britt and Colin says that he is just so worried that Lois is going to lose the baby or that she is hurt.
"I wish you'd discussed it with me first"
She wishes that Colin had discussed it with her first, before buying the ticket. “But if Catrin was on the other side of the world and going through the same thing, I know where I’d want to be.”
"Just a flying visit"
He does not want to stay there for long, just for a ‘flying visit’, to make sure that everything is all right.
"Lois will be delighted to see you"
Britt is sure that she will be delighted to see him
"I knew you'd understand"
and he knew that she would understand, giving her a hug.
"Mam wants to see you"
Eileen is at Penrhewl again; Sioned calls Howard downstairs, “Mam wants to see you.”
Mathew is not happy
Mathew looks very disapproving.
"Have you decided?"
Howard walks into the room, asking, “Have you decided?” Eileen says she has thought about his offer, so he assumes that she is going to look for someone else.
“You really want to rent Penrhewl, don’t you, Howard?”
"Yes, I do – if it's possible"
He agrees that he does, if it is possible. “And you’ve thought about what it means and all the responsibilities?” Once again he confirms that he has.
"Of course he has, Mam"
Sioned tells her mother that of course he has.
"OK – you've got a month's trial"
“OK – you’ve got a month’s trial –
"I'll send the paperwork over tonight"
“I’ll send the paperwork over tonight.” She walks out without another word.
"You'll be great, Howard"
Sioned congratulates Howard, predicting that he will be great,
"I still can't quite believe it"
but he still cannot quite believe what is happening.
Mathew says nothing
Mathew, on the other hand, remains silent.
"I just want to thank you"
Howard rushes outside, calling to Eileen to wait; “I just want to thank you – you have no idea what this means to me!”
"Don't get too excited"
She warns him not to get too excited and to make sure he reads the paperwork closely.
"Why? What's in it?"
“Why? What’s in it?” he wants to know.
She replies that it contains details about rental costs and buying stock;
"Have you worked out where to get the money?"
“Have you worked out where you get going to get the money from?”
"Of course I have"
He assures her that of course he has.
“I hope so, because I’m expecting a business plan for the whole year from you,” she goes on,
"Don't make a mess of this, Howard"
“Don’t make a mess of this, Howard, or you’ll only be running the farm for a month.”
He looks concerned as she drives away
Now he is looking rather concerned, as Eileen drives away.
