Howard is at work

Howard is mending a fence at Penrhewl when Eileen approaches;

He greets Eileen

he advises, “Sioned’s taken Jac and Lili to Elinor and Mathew’s in bed.”

"I haven't received your business plan"

“Thanks for the update, but I’m here to see you because I haven’t received your business plan,” she replies.   When he tells her that it is on its way, she hopes that is the case,

"Or you can forget about this place"

“Or you can forget about this place.”

"We've got an agreement"

Then her phone sounds as Howard insists that they have an agreement;

"A conditional agreement . . ."

she stresses that it is a conditional agreement,

". . . I  want a business plan by the end of the week"

so she wants a business plan by the end of the week.

"I'll have something at Tamed"

Garry has stayed the night at the MFC flat and Britt tells him that he cannot go without any breakfast, but he answers that he has a lot on and will have something at Tamed.

"You could move in here"

She suggests that he could stay there tonight, “In fact you might as well move in while Colin is away.”

"You and I know that's not a good idea"

Garry replies, “You and I know that’s not a good idea.”   The buzzer sounds and Garry admits Eileen.   Before he goes, Britt wants to talk to him about Bethania,

Garry meets Eileen on her way in

but he is already on his way down the stairs.

"Colin wants more holiday!"

Eileen starts, “It was a good morning before I had a text from Colin, asking for more holiday!”

"He must be enjoying Thailand"

Britt imagines that he is enjoying Thailand.   “We agreed on two weeks – how much longer does he want?   He must have told you – a week?   Two weeks?   A month?”

“I said I don’t know!” snarls Britt.

"Does that mean the stories are true"?"

Eileen takes this to mean that the stories are true that they have separated.

Kyle looks up Brynawelon

Garry’s phone is on the table in Cysgod y Glyn as Kyle is looking up Brynawelon on the laptop.

"Good morning"

He closes it when he hears Eleri coming and wishes her good morning.   “Do you still have an omelette?   What are ‘egg whites’ in Welsh?”

"You need energy after last night"

She responds that she is all right with yoghurt, but he insists, “You need energy after last night.”   However, she is adamant that she will be fine after a strong coffee.

"By the way, here's Garry's phone"

He adds, “By the way, here’s Garry’s phone – it was on the floor under the sofa – you’d better let him know.”

"How am I supposed to get hold of him?"

“How am I supposed to get hold of him?   I can’t phone him,” she smiles.

"Do you want anything from Tamed?"

Britt is cleaning the tables in MFC when Garry enquires if she wants anything from Tamed,

"What are you going to do with Bethania?"

so she takes the opportunity to ask him, “What are you going to do with Bethania?   Come on, tell me.”

"I'm not doing anything with it . . ."

He maintains that he is not going to do anything with the place, but she protests that he said a few weeks ago he had big plans to buy it.

". . . it's not for sale"

He points out that it is not for sale, but Kath has just come in, to check that Britt is all right;

"It's never easy when your partner leaves you"

“Well, it’s never easy when your partner leaves you.   Come over to the Deri later – we’ll have a drink.”

"So there are rumours"

Britt realises that there are obviously rumours that she and Colin have separated –

"Not true, are they?"

“Of course we haven’t!” so Garry wonders what the problem is.   “The problem is I don’t like people talking about me –

"I know exactly where this started!"

“and I know exactly where this story started – Eileen!   She’s always had her eye on Colin!”   Garry walks out without another word.

"I can change the ticket"

“I can change the ticket,” volunteers Kyle, “I’ll stay in Cwmderi until you come back to New York as well.”

"You're flying tonight"

She considers it to be a bit late as he is flying tonight and he needs to find a home for them.

"I want us to choose an apartment together"

“I want us to choose an apartment together,” he insists,

"You can send photos"

so she proposes that he can send photos and do video calls when he finds somewhere he likes.

"You just want me to go"

He reaches the conclusion, “You just want me to go.”

"We can phone every day – and night"

On the other hand, Eleri thinks that it makes sense for him to go back while she sorts things out there.   “And we can phone each other every day – every night.”

"I want a word in private!"

Garry arrives at the deli and informs Eileen that he wants a word, “In private – out the back, now!”

Eileen does not have much choice

He marches into the kitchen;  she objects to this, but follows him.

"I saw Garry earlier . . ."

Meanwhile in MFC, Britt is telling Siôn that she saw Garry earlier;

". . . he says he has no plans for Bethania"

“He says that he doesn’t have any plans for Bethania.   Like he said, the chapel isn’t even for sale.”   Siôn cannot understand why he said otherwise, but Britt maintain that Garry likes to wind people up.

"Have you seen the memorial today?"

Mark comes in and asks Siôn if he has seen the memorial today;  “It’s a mess again,”

"MFC boxes again?"

with Britt assuming that MFC boxes are involved.   Siôn informs her that she will have to make a list of who buys what.

"Go after everyone who's bought a bucket of chicken?"
“And then what?   Are you going to compare the litter to the list, so you can go after everyone whos bought a bucket of chicken?” Britt demands.

"Britt has enough on her plate already"

Mark interrupts to say that Britt has enough on her plate already.

"If `I ere you, I'd clean that memorial . . ."

She demands what he means by that;  “Now, if I were you, I’d clean that memorial before more people complain –

". . . why don't you help him, Mark?"

“why don’t you go and help him, Mark?”

"Things are disorganised there"

When Kath returns to the Deri, Cassie comments, “You said you were popping to the shop.”   Kath says that things are so disorganised with Colin away.

Cassie actually feels sorry for Eileen

“Poor Eileen – half the staff are in Thailand, the other half cheated in an exam,” comments Cassie.

Howard arrives . . .

Howard comes in

. . . and Cassie immediately shouts at him

and is immediately told, “How many times have I told you not to come into this bar

They do not look particularly dirty . . .

“with dirty wellingtons on?”   He protests that they are clean,

. . . but Kath recognises the odour

but Kath does not consider that they smell clean.

"I put a hosepipe on them"

He assures Cassie that he put a hose pipe over them, but she insists that he should take them off before coming in.

"You haven't smelled ny feet!"

“You haven’t smelled my feet!” he laughs.

"Go and sit in the corner"

Cassie directs him to a seat in the corner, where she will bring his pint.

"I don't want a pint – I want a favour"

He says that he does not want a pint;  “I want a favour.”

"Hello!"

Siôn walks into the deli, where he finds no-one behind the counter;

Eileen is not happy

Eileen comes out of the kitchen with a sour look on her face,

"Is something wrong?"

so he assumes that something must have happened to Sioned or Huwi-John.

"How is the councillor today?"

Garry follows her out, enquiring, “How is the councillor today?”

"Remember what I said!"

then warns Eileen, “Remember what I said!”

"What's going on?"

Siôn is anxious to find out what they were doing in the kitchen and she says that they were just discussing a couple of things.

Siôn insists that he wants the truth.

"I upset Britt this morning"

“I upset Britt this morning,” so he realises that Garry came over to threaten her,

"Did he hurt you?"

hoping that he did not hurt her.

"Perhaps I should be more careful"

“No – perhaps I should be more careful about what I tell people,” Eileen concedes.   Siôn goes into the kitchen to get some cleaning materials.

"You don't like it, do you?"

As they sit in the Deri, Howard suspects that Cassie does not like his business plan;

"It's Eileen you have to impress"

she replies that it is Eileen he has to impress.   She admits that he has some good ideas,

"You can't do it all yourself"

“But you can’t do it all yourself – it’s too much for you.”

"I'm not afraid of hard work"

He stresses that he is not afraid of hard work, “So you agree that a family should take over the farm?”

"You should take on a farm hand"

She suggests that he take on a farm hand, but he is not going to be able to afford that.

“How much is a farm hand going to earn?   You must have some idea – you were one.”

"Cheap ones are not worth the bother"

He answers that it depends who they are;  cheap ones aren’t worth the bother, so she points out that he will have to offer a decent wage I that case.

Eleri and Kyle come in rather warily

Eleri and Kyle come cautiously into the Deri and she immediately demands, “What’s that smell?”

"Manure from Penrhewl"

Kath replies that it is manure from Penrhewl.

"My partner – business partner, that is"

Kyle is introduced to Kath as Eleri’s ‘business’ partner.

“That other business partner was a ‘Yank’ as well,” observes Kath,

"There's more than one 'Yank'!"

so Eleri angrily points out that there is more than one ‘Yank’.

"After spraying some air freshener"

She asks Kath to bring over a bottle of red wine, after spraying some air freshener.

"That is Kathleen Pearl"

“Why didn’t you tell her who I am?” Kyle demands, so she explains that is Kathleen Pearl

"Oh – Brynmor's ex-wife"

and he realises, “Brynmor’s ex-wife.”

"It's that's important – us and New York"

Eleri advises him to forget about her;  “It’s us that that’s important – us and New York.”

Kath does not like the look of them

Kath is eyeing them extremely suspiciously.

The memorial has been cleaned up again

Siôn and Mark have about finished cleaning up the memorial and Britt brings the workers a cup of tea;  she compliments them on a tidy job.

"Until the kids come back tonight"

“Until the kids come back tonight,” groans Mark.

"I think it's time to restart the youth club"

Siôn has been thinking about that;  “I think it’s time to restart the youth club.”

Britt has spoken to Megan

Britt has been thinking about the same thing and has spoken to Megan about using the vestry again,

"No teenager wants to use the chapel vestry"

but Mark does not think any teenager would want to use the vestry.

"Somewhere that's popular – like MFC"

Siôn tends to agree, considering that the youth club should be somewhere that is popular with young people, “Somewhere like MFC.   All we have to do now is organise something to keep them there.”

Britt is not keen

Britt is not keen on this idea,

"Remember, your till will be ringing!"

but Mark points out that her till will be ringing.

"Thanks, Cass, you're a lifesaver"

Howard is now much more upbeat;  “Thanks, Cass, you’re a life-saver,” he says, “I’ll take this straight to Eileen,”

"Show it to Sioned first . . ."

but she stops him, suggesting that he should show it to Sioned first, to see if it all makes sense.

". . . she knows Penrhewl like the back of her hand"

“She knows Penrhewl like the back of her hand and she can tell you what’s possible and what isn’t.   You need to take advantage of her advice, so that Eileen can’t say no.”

Howard is happier now

He leaves the Deri in a much more positive mood.

"He'll be expecting you to help with the shearing next"

When Cassie gets back to the bar, Kath remarks, “He’ll be expecting you to help with the shearing next.”

Cassie describes him as a ‘poor thing’ who does not have much of a clue, then adds, “And who is this young man with Eleri?”

"I don't trust a word she says"

Kath replies disbelievingly that she said it was her business partner, “But I don’t trust a word she says.”   Cassie concurs that is the best way to approach her.

"Your taxi is outside"

Eleri receives a message on her phone;  “Your taxi is outside – you’d better finish that wine – there isn’t much traffic on Fifth Avenue, Cwmderi.”

"Not in here, with the vultures watching"

He is about to kiss her, but she stops him, “No, not in here – not with those two vultures watching.”

Kyle shakes Kath's hand

On his way out, Kyle shakes Kath’s hand;

"Nice to meet you, Kathleen"

“Nice to meet you, Kathleen.”

"You must have made an impression"

When they have gone, Cassie comments, “Kathleen, eh?   You must have made an impression.”

Then they kiss

Outside, they do kiss and Eleri tells him to phone when he gets there;

"Mrs Anderson, I love you"

he replies, “I will, Mrs Anderson.   I love you.”

He leaves in the taxi

He gets into the Deri Deithio electric taxi, which drives away.

Eleri waves goodbye . . .

Eleri’s phone rings

. . . then has a call from Jinx

and she finds that it is a call from Jinx, which she ignores.

£9?   Expensive drink

Inside the Deri, Britt has come over for that drink, but is surprised when Kath charges her £9 for it.

"Keep the change – and your company!"

“You invited me over,” she complains, but is told that was for some company.

“I can't afford to pay for your drinks as well,” Kath goes on.    Cassie wonders what that was about;  “I thought she’d like some company while Colin’s away.”

"You're not still going on about Colin leaving her?"

“You’re not still going on about Colin leaving her?”   Kath still considers that it is odd, him being in Thailand with his ex and she in Cwmderi.”  Cassie urges her stop it, as they are good customers.

"I want to apologise"

Eileen comes in and immediately notices Britt, sitting alone;  “Britt, I am happy to see you because I want to apologise.

"I was very insensitive"

“I was very insensitive this morning and I’m so sorry.”

"Yes, I should think so"

Britt is pleased to hear this, as she continues, “You and Colin are like a rock – and I know that – so if you happen to talk to Colin,

"Is welcome to stay in Thailand as long as he wants"

“can you tell him that is welcome to stay in Thailand as long as he wants?”

Britt is glad to hear this

Britt finds this quite a relief, but there is a sting in the tail;  “Since Sioned and Mathew are leaving Penrhewl, I’ve had to restructure the businesses –

But there may not be a job for him

“and I’m not sure whether there will be a job in the shop any more.”

Britt is dejected again

As intended, now Britt is even more upset.

Garry gets his phone back

In the office at Brynawelon, Eleri gives the phone back to Garry, telling him that it was alleged to be under the sofa.

"How did you forget that you have a husband?"

“I won’t ask how you forgot that you’ve got a husband,” he remarks.

"You threw me out of my home last night"

She maintains that she and Kyle are none of his business, but Garry’s opinion differs;  “You threw me out of my home last night, so I think you are my business – unless you want me to mention him to Jinx.”

"OK, you've stirred enough already"

“OK, you’ve stirred enough already,” she snaps,

"You do care about Jinx, then"

and Garry realises that she does actually care about Jinx.

"It's important we keep this to ourselves"

“That’s why it’s important that we keep this between ourselves,” she tells him.

"Tell me everything and I'll keep my mouth shut"

“Tell me everything and I’ll keep my mouth closed,” Garry proposes.

"It was a marriage of convenience"

She maintains that they worked together and the marriage was purely a piece of paper;  an arrangement so that she could stay in the States.   “It might have suited me at the time – some company, comfort – but now I’ve moved on.”

"Well, tell Kyle that, then"

Garry invites her to tell Kyle that, but she says she cannot.

"You're not usually shy"

He remarks that she is not usually shy,

"He knows too many of my secrets"

so she explains, “He knows too many of my secrets, Garry.”

Eileen is washing up . . .

Eileen is doing the washing up

. . . when Howard arrives

when Howard walks in with the business plan;

"I'm excited to know what you think"

“There’s no point holding on to it – I’m excited to know what you think!”

"What on earth?"

As he leaves again, she looks at the two sheets of paper and exclaims, “What on earth?”

"You have to be straight with him"

Garry insists that it does not matter what Kyle knows;  “You have to be straight with him and tell him it’s over.”

"He doesn't like being rejected"

“Kyle doesn’t like being rejected,” she says, but Garry considers that a divorce is the only way she will get rid of him.

"I have a fantastic solicitor"

He has a fantastic solicitor, by the name of Georgina and offers to organise a meeting.

“You haven’t seen him in three years, so that won’t be a problem,” he points out.

"I slept with him last night"

Then Eleri admits that she slept with him last night,

That puts a different complexion on things

as she did not know how else to get rid of him.

"I feel guilty"

“The worst thing is, I feel guilty – and I never feel guilty about anything.”   Garry imagines that this is because of Jinx.

"He's be heartbroken when he finds out"

“He’ll be heartbroken when he finds out.”

"You have to divorce Kyle as soon as possible"

Garry tells her that if she really cares about Jinx, she has to divorce Kyle as soon as possible.

Howard relaxes with a can"

Howard is relaxing on the sofa at Penrhewl and having a can when Eileen appears in the doorway.

"I'm not happy, Howard"

“I’m not happy, Howard.   You haven’t listed any improvements you’re going to make to the farm or shown any evidence that you will be able to do the paperwork.

"I want to rent to someone reliable"

“I was serious when I said I wanted to rent to someone reliable.”

"I am reliable"

He insists that he is reliable, but she goes on, “It says here you want to employ a farmhand –

"You ned help now"

“but you need help now, while you’re doing shifts at APD.

"Finding a farm hand is your job"

“I don’t keep a dog and bark myself – finding a farm hand is your job – to prove this plan is going to work!”

Eileen walks out again

Thus saying, she tosses down the paperwork and walks out.
