Garry is rather engrossed

As Garry is walking past Cysgod y Glyn, engrossed in his phone, Arwen comes out of the door and he bumps into her.   He tells her to look where she is going, 

"You look where you're going!"

and she angrily snarls, “You look where you’re going!”   He says that he has a job for her, 

"I didn't think you'd trust me again"

but she did not think that he would trust her again.

"I want you to persuade your friends"

“Well, now’s chance to prove yourself to me,” he answers, “I want you to persuade your friends to have lunch at MFC.”   She points out that they are not allowed to leave the school grounds, but he comments, “You don’t strike me as the type who worries about rules.”

"What's in it for me?"

Arwen immediately demands, “What’s in it for me?” and she does not consider a free burger to be adequate, so he increases his offer to burger, fries, two sides and a drink for free.   

"Perhaps – we'll see!"

“Perhaps – we’ll see,” is her response, and she walks away.

Anita has some extravagant flowers

At Bryntirion a large bunch of flowers is delivered for Anita, and Jason wishes her a happy birthday, but she enlightens him that it is actually St Dwynwen’s Day.

As he realises that he has forgotten all about that, 

"OK – I know that you love me"

Kelly, sitting at the table, comments, “It’s OK – I know that you love me.”   He apologises profusely and promises to make it up to her, 

"I can't find a vase big enough"

while Anita boasts that she cannot find a vase big enough for the flowers.

Jason has an awkward question for Kelly;  “Do you think you could pick Ifan up from Jinx’s club tonight?”   

"Sorry Jase – deadline!"

She regrets that she must refuse, as she has a deadline to meet, and when he says it will only take two minutes, tells him to do it.

"It doesn't make sense, Kelly"

“It doesn’t make sense for me to drive back from Llanarthur when you’re five minutes down the road,” he protests, and they agree a compromise that he will pick up Ifan, while Kelly will do the bath and bed.

"Happy St Dwynwen's Day!"

As Jason leaves for work, she sadly mutters to herself, “Happy St Dwynwen’s Day.”

"Greta – we'll be late!"

Siôn is eating his breakfast as Iolo tells Greta to bring her colouring book with her, “And hurry, or we’ll be late.”   

"I thought I was taking her to nursery"

Siôn was under the impression that he was taking her to nursery, but Iolo wants to do it, regarding it as an excuse to leave the house and has also arranged a meeting after dropping her off.   

"I'm discussing a bit of work at Llanarthur"

“I’m discussing a bit of work at Llanarthur Leisure Centre today.”

Siôn is glad to see his son going out into the real world again;  Iolo says , “It has put a lot of things into perspective after talking to Cai last night – we had a couple of cans and put the world to rights.”

"I thought he wasn't drinking at the moment"

“I thought he wasn’t drinking at the moment,” remarks Siôn, 

"Oops!"

and Iolo realises he has put his foot in it, explaining that Cai has been helping him to discuss things.   

"Mind you keep an eye on him"

Siôn is pleased that it seems that Cai has got his head together, but warns Iolo to keep an eye on him, in case he drinks again.

"Could you look after Greta?"

“I’m meeting him later – so, if you don’t mind, could you look after Greta?” Iolo asks, 

"Yes, no problem"

and his father is only too willing to do so.

Cai is again feeling the effects

After last night’s drinking, Cai is at Cysgod y Glyn, feeling the effects;  

"You're only twelve hours late!"

Ffion comments, “Oh, you’ve arrived!   You’re only twelve hours late!   

"The paracetamol is in the top cupboard"

“The paracetamol is in the top cupboard.”   He tells her that he is not drinking, so she demands, “Why didn’t you come over last night?   I tried to phone you,” she continues, 

"I fell asleep on the sofa"

and he maintains that he fell asleep on the sofa.

“And no-one thought to wake you up?” she growls, and he rather unconvincingly says he is sorry.

Ffion is given a bottle

He presents her with a bottle and wishes her, “Happy St Dwynwen’s Day!   I’ve booked a table in that Spanish restaurant you like.”   

"Set an alarm this time!"

She advises him to set an alarm this time, and looks at the bottle, as he explains that it is non-alcoholic and is supposed to be nice.   She will get her shoes and then they can go to school, 

He is not at his best

but he is obviously still feeling ‘under the weather’.

Colin is just finishing  . . .

In the shop, Colin is putting the finishing touches 

. . . his welcome to Britt 

to his ‘Welcome Home’ banner, as Britt is returning today, when Garry comes in;  “I know you’re busy, right, but I need a favour,” he says, 

What – today, Garry?"

“I need you to do a shift at MFC – Tyler’s ill.   

"What's more important, Col?"

“What’s more important – that Britt comes home to a lot of bunting and tack – or that she comes home to a job?   I’ll see you later!”

Two schoolboys are dropping litter . . .

Two school children are walking along the road and dropping litter outside Siôn’s shop;  

. . . which brings anger from Siôn 

he rushes out to remonstrate with them.   “Pick those up and find a rubbish bin!” he shouts, but they take no notice.

"Stop upsetting my customers!"

Garry takes issue with him;  “Stop upsetting my customers!”   

"They're supposed to be in school"

Siôn however regards them as ‘swines’, pointing out that they are supposed to be in school, when he sees Arwen, carrying her ‘reward’.

Arwen has an immediate excuse

She explains, “It’s part of my project – food and nutrition – it’s research.”   

"And your mother will confirm that?"

Siôn is sure that her mother will confirm that, but Arwen pleads with him not to tell her.

"I'm going to make an official complaint!"

“And I’m going to make an official complaint to the council!” Siôn threatens;  

"Look what you've done now!"

Arwen moans to Garry about what he has done, and Garry replies that he did not force her to come there.

"We're both in trouble now – nice one!"

“Well, we’re both in trouble now – nice one!” she tells him.

Kelly has a surprise

Kelly comes back to Bryntirion and is surprised to see Jinx there;  

"We've been talking"

Jason informs her that he and Jinx have been talking.   She thought that he was supposed to be in Llanarthur, and Jinx apologises for keeping him from his work.

"Plans for the pizza shop"

“I’m here to discuss plans for the pizza shop,” he says, 

"You're getting APD to do it?"

and Kelly realises that he is going to get APD to deal with the refurbishment work.   “Yes, of course,” he goes on, “A local, dependable company, right next door to the shop – 

"You mentioned 'mate's rates'?"

“oh, Jason, do you remember mentioning ‘mate’s rates’?   

"Funky, modern, colourful"

“What I want is for it to look pretty funky – so, modern, colourful – but not like we’ve tried too hard.”

"Not screwing pallets to the wall?"

Jason sighs, “Jinx, I hope you’re not going to ask me to screw pallets to the wall?” and Jinx replies that he also wants them on the ceiling.   

"We do have standards, you know"

“I hope you’re joking – we do have standards, you know,” Jason warns him.   

"We'll have a chat another time, OK?"

They will have a chat another time, but now Jason has to return to work.

"There's no way I can pick Ifan up"

“I’ve checked, and there’s no way I can pick Ifan up tonight,” he tells Kelly, “I’m sorry – are you sure you can’t do it?   Please?”   She has little choice but to agree, and he promises that he will repay the favour, 

Jason kisses her and leaves

kisses her and leaves the house.   

Kelly and Jason look at each other

Kelly and Jinx look at each other.

Garry brings Siôn a peace offering

Garry takes a peace offering to Y Felin, and Siôn wants him to leave it outside;  “I don’t want the house to stink,” he says.   Garry tells him that it is an apology from them all at MFC, 

"A box of greasy meat?"

and Siôn sneers, “What – a box of greasy meat?”

"Tasty greasy meat, Siôn"

Garry correct him, “Tasty greasy meat, Siôn.   Have you contacted the council at all?”   

"MFC is leading local children astray"

Siôn replies that it is on his list, stressing that MFC is leading local children astray and it needs to be stopped.

"It's not my fault it's so popular"

Garry protests that it is not his fault it is so popular;  “You’re enticing young children out of school – don’t deny it – Arwen phoned me about your ‘special deal’.”

"You know how difficult it is to keep a business going"

Garry points out that Siôn knows how difficult it is to keep a business going at the moment and that they should be supporting each other.   

"Run your shop in a responsible way"

“Run your shop in a responsible way, then we can discuss ‘support’,” Siôn insists.

Garry promises to keep things under control and asks if he will refain from contacting the council;  

"We don't want the High Street empty, do we?"

“Think of the High Street, Siôn – we don’t want the place empty, do we?   And don’t tell Ffion about it.”

"I shall be keeping a close eye on you"

Siôn is not comfortable about it, but will be keeping a close eye on Garry, 

"Appreciated, Siôn"

who appreciates the decision.   

Is he going to try the chicken?

Siôn opens the box of food and looks critically at it.

Kelly is on the way to collect Ifan

Kelly is on her way to pick up Ifan;  

Jinx comes out of Yr Antur 

Jinx comes out and invites the parents to pick up their children.   

"We'll have to stop meeting like this"

“Hiya, Kelly – we’ll have to stop meeting like this,” he says, and shows her the cute card that Ifan made for St Dwynwen’s Day..

She looks at the card Ifan has made

As she looks at it, he asks if she got anything from Jason, 

Kelly shakes her head

and she sadly shakes her head.

Geraint is all poised for action

Cai comes into the Deri and asks Geraint, who is barman today, for a double espresso.   

"You're not still hung over?"

Iolo gets the impression that he is still hung over, 

"No, I've had a hard day"

but Cai insists that he has had a hard day.   

"You teachers don't know what a hard day's work is"

“You teachers don’t know what a hard day’s work is,” Iolo tells him, “I’m having a few pints tonight because I deserve them.   Thanks for the chat last night – it was just what I needed – let me get you a pint and forget about that coffee.”

"I'm taking Ffion out to dinner"

Cai explains that he is taking Ffion out to dinner tonight, but Iolo points out that is later, and he promises not to bore Cai.

"I'm not drinking on my own"

“I’m not drinking on my own,” he urges, and Cai quickly succumbs to the temptation of a lager, in addition to which, Iolo orders a whisky chaser. 

'Dry January' is soon forgotten

Cai decides to do likewise;  “As you said, there’s plenty of time before dinner.”

Colin closes the chicken shop early

Colin has had enough of working in the chicken shop and closes early;  as soon as he has done so, Jason appears, and is told, “Sorry, Jase, I can’t serve you – we’re closed.”   

Jason points out that he is not supposed to close for hours yet;  

"What sort of service is that?"

“What sort of service is that?   You’ve only just opened!” he complains, and Colin cites ‘staff problems’.

“Colin, I forgot to buy Kelly a St Dwynwen’s Day present – so I want to get her a treat – something special.   Colin, please – help me out here, mate!”

"All right – but make it quick!"

Colin reluctantly agrees, but tells him to make it quick.

Iolo tells a lurid tale of seduction

In the Deri, Cai has already polished off several glasses of alcohol, as Iolo relates what happened to him.  “I only went there to fix a tap, and before I got my tools out, she tried to seduce me in the bathroom – seriously!   I told her I didn’t fancy her, so she got offended and threw me out!   I expect you would have loved her.”

"I've wised up now"

Cai brags that he has wised up, but Iolo is sure that he must have a few stories;  “I’ll get another round and then I’ll tell you a few stories,” says Cai.  

"Don't forget about Ffion"

Iolo reminds him about Ffion, 

"There's time for another quick one"

but he is sure there is time for another quick one, and staggers off towards the bar.

Back at Bryntirion, Kelly looks at the card from Ifan, 

Kelly finds the card very touching

bearing the message, ‘Kelly.   Love you.   Ifan x.’

"Going to the Deri?"

Anita and Ieuan are just leaving and Kelly assumes they are going to the Deri;  

"No, only the best for Anita"

“No, only the best for Anita,” replies Ieuan, and Anita says that Kelly and Jason should have arranged to go somewhere.   Kelly reminds her that there is Ifan to think of, 

Kelly is quite emotional

and as they leave she is becoming quite tearful.

"Where have you been?"

Cai has finally managed to make his way to Cysgod y Glyn, where Ffion is angry;  “Where have you been?   You’re late!   Are you ready to go?   I’m starving – I can already taste that paella.”

Cai is not very steady on his feet

Cai is evidently having difficulty remaining standing, 

"Cai – why tonight?"

and she demands, “Cai – why tonight?   We’re about to go out.”   He explains that he had one or two with Iolo.   “More than one or two, I’d say,” she replies,

"I'll be fine after a trip to 'Ty Bach'"

 and he insists that he will be fine after a trip to the toilet.

"Why do I bother with him"

Surely by now she is wondering why she wastes time with this loser.

"I've got a treat for dinner"

Kelly is still sitting quietly when Jason comes in with his box of MFC;  “Right, I’ve got a treat for dinner to say sorry for forgetting St Dwynwen’s Day,” he tells her.

Kelly remains silent

She looks at him without saying anything, and he suspects that something is wrong, but she replies that she is fine.   “I’ll put these in the oven, because I’m not ready to eat yet,” he continues, and she is again on the verge of tears.

Cai staggers back in

When Cai returns from the toilet, Ffion announces that they are not going;  

"Go to bed, drink plenty of water!"

“Go to bed, drink plenty of water and we’ll discuss this tomorrow,” she instructs him.

"I deserve a bit of respect!"

“Don’t talk to me like one of your pupils,” he snarls, “I deserve some respect!”

"Nor from where I'm standing, you don't!"

“Not from where I’m standing, you don’t,” she answers and he insists that even though he has only had one drink, she has to go on and on about it.   She is going to phone him a taxi, 

"How annoying your voice is"

and he keeps haranguing her, “Has anyone ever told you how annoying your voice is?   No wonder the kids can’t stand school!”

"Go home and sober up!"

She orders him to go home and sober up, 

"We're going out for food!"

but he is adamant, “It’s St Dwynwen’s Day – and we’re going out for food!”

Ffion tells him to stop it now, and he demands, “What’s wrong?   Don’t you fancy me any more?  Come on – Vamos!”   

He knocks the bottle to the floor . . .

In his inebriated lurch towards the door he knocks the bottle he gave her to the floor, where it smashes.

. . . and inevitably cuts himself

She tells him to leave it, but of course he takes no notice and cuts his finger;  

"I'll clear it up"

at that moment Jinx arrives and says he will clear up the mess.

Cai threatens him . . .

Cai picks up a broken piece of bottle 

. . . brandishing the broken bottle

and waves it threateningly at Jinx:  

"You're not coming anywhere near me!"

“You’re not coming anywhere near me!”   Both Ffion and Jinx look very scared.

Jason is enjoying his MFC

As they eat the fried chicken, Jason tells Kelly, “Fair play, that is nice,” but she is not devouring it like he is.   

"Right, out with it – what's wrong?"

“Right then, out with it – tell me what’s wrong?” he says, 

"I think I know what this is"

“OK, I think I know what this is;  

Kelly looks at him

she turns and looks him in the eyes.   

"They are moving back to Australia"

“I’m fed up with sleeping on the floor as well – but don’t worry, I’ve spoken to Mam – they are moving back to Australia, and we’ll get the house back to ourselves before long.”

"What a relief"

Kelly seems to be experiencing smiles and tears at the same time, and gasps, “What a relief.”   He promises that it will be just the two of them and Ifan – just like it was, just how they like it.

"And Auntie Neet – we can't have everything"

“And Auntie Neet, of course – but there we are, we can’t have everything.”   

"What a drama queen!"

She thanks Jason and laughs, “Sorry – what a drama queen!”   He appreciates that the lack of sleep does strange things to people, and thinks they should get down to eating their chicken.

“I got it specially for you, because I know you like chicken thighs,” he adds, 

"Nothing says 'St Dwynwen' like chicken thighs!"

and Kelly remarks that nothing says ‘St Dwynwen’ like chicken thighs;  

They hold hands

they hold hands.

He is still in a drunken stupor

As Cai is lying, oblivious, on the sofa and Jinx is clearing up the broken glass, Ffion insists, “He wouldn’t have done anything to you, you know,” 

"Only because he could see two of me"

but Jinx knows that was because Cai could see two of him.

"Bicarb – works every time!"

Ffion does not know how she is going to get the blood out of that cushion, but Jinx knowledgeably informs her, “Bicarb – works every time!   

"Pity he's not to easy to sort out"

“It’s a pity he’s not that easy to sort out.”

Ffion is still defending Cai, maintaining that it might be just a phase, and that he is under a lot of pressure.   

Ffion is still making excuses for him

“He’s got a mountain of schoolwork and he’s missing Twm and Leucu.”   

"He needs to talk to someone"

Jinx considers in that case he needs to talk to someone instead of drinking, and she insists that he can talk to her.

“Sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone you don’t know – I’ve been there myself, thinking I can save people.”   

"You saved me"

She reminds him that he saved her, “But you slid backwards in the end, didn’t you?” he says, 

"Try and persuade him to see a counsellor"

“He needs help – he needs to sort his head out before things get worse.   Try and persuade him to see a counsellor.”

Ffion knows very well that Cai would never entertain such an idea, but Jinx points out that there is no harm in trying;  he will go and get a blanket for him.

Britt is back at last . . .

Colin is fast asleep on the sofa when Britt returns home, apologising for her late arrival;  “Does any train run on time these days?”   

. . . she sees the 'Welcome Home' sign . . .

Then she sees the ‘Welcome Home’ sign, 

. . . and Colin, snoring away

and Colin snoring away, and adds, “I love you, Colin Evans.”

Cai is also asleep

Back at Cysgod y Glyn, there is another one snoring, 

Ffion takes out his phone

and Ffion carefully removes his phone from his pocket.   

"What are you doing?"

Jinx asks what she is doing;  he does not consider it is the time for selfies.

“That’s not what I’m doing – if I booked a counsellor for him, there’s no way he’d go, 

"If he thinks he arranged it himself . . .`'

“but if he thinks he arranged it himself . . .”   

"Do you think it will work?"

Jinx doubts that the plan will work, 

"Neither of us can carry on like this"

but Ffion stresses that neither of them can carry on like this.
