"Oh, Garry, you shouldn't have!"

When Garry comes into the Deri with flowers and a gift, Cassie exclaims, “Oh, Garry, you shouldn’t have!”   She is not surprised when he tells her that they are for Dani.

'"I haven't seen that smile for months"

“I haven’t seen that smile for months – years, even – is it too early to open a bottle of champagne?” she continues, 

"It's just a bit early"

and he replies that it is just a bit early.   “I hope everything goes well this time – what did the children have to say about it?   I take it you’ve told them?”

"OK, I'll talk to Dani"

Garry says that there is no hurry, but she warns that he does not want anyone else telling them;  “You know how people talk – they’re bound to find out.”   He stresses that he will talk to Dani, and she maintains that the sooner he does this, the better.

Tyler is lounging around

Upstairs in the flat, Tyler is watching the television when Garry comes in, commenting, “Oh, you’re still here.”

"Oh  more flowers and presents!"

“Looks like it,” says Tyler and then adds, “Oh – more flowers and presents!   Someone’s got a guilty conscience, but I don’t know why.   

"Late night last night?"

“You look tired, Garry – late night last night?”   Dani wants to know if Tyler has finished his breakfast, and when he says that he has, 

"I'll see you!"

 

 

 

 

she tells him he can go.

"You open this, Dan"

Garry shows her the flowers and insists that he will put them in water, while she opens the gift he has brought for her;  

Garry kisses her

he kisses her.   “I haven’t been spoiled like this for ages, actually,” she says, 

"Garry –wow!"

and he replies that she deserves it every day.   When she sees what is in the bag, she gasps with excitement.

Ffion is seething with anger . . . 

At Cysgod y Glyn, Ffion is still looking angry 

. . . as she looks at the vacant sofa

as she looks at the duvet left untidily on the sofa.   

Cai seems to have left his phone behind

She once again picks up Cai’s phone 

Ffion looks at the message from Emma . . .

and looks at the message from Emma, 

. . . and deletes the contact

then deletes the contact.

"It must have been a shock"

Outside APD, Diane is speaking on the phone;  “It must have been a shock,” she says, “Yes, I’m not surprised – it was the early hours of the morning.   

"Leave this to me"

“No, don’t do that – leave this to me!   We’ll talk later when you’re feeling better.”

Ffion hurries out of Cysgod y Glyn 

While she is speaking, Ffion can be seen coming out of Cysgod y Glyn.

A large box has been delivered to Tesni

Gwyneth returns to number 9, and finds that Tesni has a large box which has been delivered;  she assures Gwyneth that it will be not be there long, 

She is keeping its contents a secret

and will not explain what it is.   There is a knock at the door, and Tesni had been under the impression that Gwyneth was going to Carmarthen;  

"I had to come back to get my phone"

she had to come back to collect her phone.

Rhys reports that Mathew is busy and cannot come, but is quite confident that they can manage without him.   Gwyneth leaves for Carmarthen.   

Rhys has come to help

Rhys boasts, “For you, Tesni, I’m free all day – but if Griffiths asks, I’m pricing houses in Llanarthur, all right?”   They pick up the heavy box with difficulty, as Rhys is determined to demonstrate his rippling muscles;  

"I can do it topless, if you want"

“I can do it topless if you want.”   

They take the box outside

Tesni decides to forego this tempting offer and they start to shift the box.

Dani's impressive handbag 

Dani is in awe of this designer handbag Garry has given her;  

"Don't tell me it's a fake, Garry"

“Please don't tell me it’s a fake,” she remarks, “I know how much these cost, even in the sales.   Where did you get the money?”   

"You're worth it, Dan"

He replies that she is worth it, but she will not give up;  

"If you want me to trust you . . ."

“Garry, if you want me to trust you, you have to be honest with me.”

"Are you staying for lunch, Dad?"

He begins to explain that it is a bit complicated, but then Gwern walks in;   Garry had thought he was at school, and Gwern is impressed with the handbag.   He asks, “Are you staying for lunch,” and Dani points out that Garry is welcome to do so.   Gwern wants to show off his World Cup sticker book.

"When are we going to tell him and Seren?"

When he goes to get it, Garry demands, “When are we going to tell him and Seren?   I know you don’t want to rush things, but they’ll have to find out some time.”

"Just because we've bought me a bag . . ."

“Just because you’ve bought me a bag, it doesn’t mean we have to tell them,” Dani insists, 

"I'll decide when, OK?"

“I’ll decide when, OK?”

Ffion apologises for Cai

Ffion has gone to the Deri to apologise about the way Cai behaved there yesterday;  

"Too much of a coward to say sorry himself?"

“And he’s too much of a coward to come here and say sorry himself?” sneers Cassie, “So he’s sent you instead.”   Ffion reveals that she has not spoken to him this morning, and Cassie assumes, “Probably at home, suffering in his bed, but there we are.   

"He made a fool of himself and upset Diane"

“He made a fool of himself and upset Diane.”

"He won't remember half the things he did"

Ffion insists that no-one is more angry than her;  “He won’t remember half the things he did.”   

"Well, if he can't hold his drink . . ."

Cassie’s suggestion is that if he cannot hold his drink, he should drink less.   

"Who was serving him whiskies?"

“Who was serving him?   Whiskies, I heard, on an empty stomach!” Ffion moans.

“I wouldn’t have served him if I knew he had a problem,” Cassie replies, but Ffion insists that he does not have a problem, but that everyone goes too far sometimes.

"You haven't seen Cai, have you?"

Diane marches in and asks, “You haven’t seen Cai today, have you?”   

"He'll want some 'hair of the dog'!"

Cassie predicts that he might be there in a minute for some ‘hair of the dog’.   

"That would suit him – he is a dog!"

“That would suit him – he is a dog!” Diane snarls.

Huwi-John is playing

Huwi-John is playing with his farm toys on the table at Penrhewl, 

"The cakes are going into the oven"

as Eileen informs him, “The cakes are going into the oven and you can help me decorate them later, ready for the ‘Mari Lwyd’ party tomorrow.”   

"Boys don't wear lipstick!"

Then she notices the Fireman Sam toy and complains, “Why have you put lipstick on Fireman Sam?   He’s a man – boys don’t wear lipstick,” 

Eileen immediately removes it

and she sets about removing it with her tea towel.

She must have forgotten he felt his phone behind

Ffion is holding the phone to her ear in the Deri, and groans, “Come on – answer, you clown!”   Diane, who is sitting nearby, remarks that it is ironic that she cannot get hold of her own boyfriend, 

Diane makes scathing comments

while he is texting his ex on the other side of the world.   

"Everyone does silly things when they're drunk"

Ffion is still defending him;  “Everyone does silly things when they’re drunk.”

“You should know!” Diane acidly comments, and Ffion takes exception to this;  

Diane takes delight in telling Cassie . . .

“Perhaps Ffion hasn’t told you, Cassie, what Cai did last night.”   Ffion just wants her to leave it, but Diane is having none of it;  “Texted our Emma when he was drunk – after breaking her heart years ago.   

. . . who looks very disapproving 

“He woke her up in the night and she couldn’t go back to sleep – and she’s still upset now.”

Ffion listens

She turns to Ffion, who is looking furious, 

"Oh, quiet now, are you?"

and comments, “Oh, quiet now, are you?”   

"He regretted it straightaway"

Ffion is adamant that it was a mistake and Cai regretted it the minute he sent it – that’s what he said, and I believe him.”

"Two murderers, your cousin, Hywel Llywelyn  – and his son . . ."

“Well, you don’t have a very good track record with the men you trust, do you?   Let’s see now – two murderers, your own cousin, Hywel Llywelyn – and his son.   

"The biggest drug Cwmderi has ever seen – apart from you!"

“And now the biggest gigolo and drunk Cwmderi has ever seen – apart from you, perhaps!”

"Emma wrecked that marriage!"

Ffion has had enough of this, and before she storms out, she admits, “Perhaps what Cai did was stupid, but, just to remind you, it was Emma who was unfaithful in Australia, not Cai!   She wrecked that marriage – so you can talk as much as you like, 

"Don't you dare preach to me about trust – cow!"

“but don’t you dare preach to me about trust – cow!”   Diane does not look much affected by this tirade.

"More like scrambled egg, actually"

Garry thanks Dani for lunch, and is looking at the sticker book;  she points out that it was only omelette, “Or more like scrambled eggs, actually.”

"You used to make me a boiled egg"

Gwern remembers when his father used to make him a boiled egg;  “Yeah, with soldiers,” Garry recalls.

"To stop witches making small boats"

“And after I finished, you always made me break the shell up – to stop witches making small boats,” Gwern continues.   

Garry considers that it must have worked, because he never did see a witch around the place;  

"I don't think I saw any witches around the place

“At least I don’t think I did,” he adds, looking straight at Dani, who realises that he is getting at her, 

"That's really rude, Garry!"

and describes it as really rude.

Garry is about to go, but Gwern wants him to stay for a while to see the new Xbox game;  

"You'll have to teach me"

“You’ll have to teach me,” says Garry, 

Gwern wants a packet of crisps

and then Gwern asks for a packet of crisps;  he and his father go to his room.

Diane never stops moaning

Downstairs, Diane is still complaining, “I’d forgotten how much of a cow she was!” and Cassie points out that she has her moments as well.   “Every word I said was true!” Diane continues, but is warned that the truth hurts.

"That pig of a boyfriend of hers"

She is calming down slightly as she admits, “The thing is, I’m not angry with Ffion, but with that pig of a boyfriend of hers.”   

"Welcome to the club!"

Cassie welcomes her to the club and enquires whether she would like another gin.

"We've run out of crisps upstairs"

Dani comes in and says that they have run out of crisps upstairs so Cassie provides some more, 

"Can you take this upstairs?"

also asking her to take the bunting upstairs or it will get ruined before the party tomorrow.   

"Love is in the air"

Dani has never seen so many unicorns, and Cassie believes that they are breeding in the box;  “There we are – love is in the air.   Listen now, I’m glad you and Garry are a couple again.”   

"Garry's been bragging again"

Dani realises that Garry has been bragging;  “Why not – he’s smitten, isn’t he?” Cassie goes on, 

"He knows he's very lucky to get you back"

“He’s had regrets ever since he lost you, and he knows he’s very lucky to have you back.”

That is why Dani wants to take things slowly and not to make a mess of it;  

"I'm scared of making a mess of things"

“And the kids don’t know,” she adds, “I’m just scared, Cass, of making a mess of things.”

"Not every couple gets a second chance"

“Not every couple gets a second chance, so don’t waste it,” Cassie advises.

Eileen calls to Huwi

Sioned is in the kitchen at Penrhewl, as her mother calls down Huwi, telling him she has made some special cakes.   Sioned says that the cakes look fab;  

'"They're not to my taste"

“Well, they’re not to my taste, but as long as the kids are happy,” says Eileen, and Sioned will take them to the Deri.

"I shouldn't have out pressure on you"

“We’re all right after the other night, are we?’ Eileen worries, “I shouldn’t have put pressure on you to tell DJ you had lost a baby with Garry.   You do what’s best for the two of you.   Also, I’d like it if you didn’t leave your stuff lying about from now on.”

"I don't have much stuff here"

Sioned protests that she does not have much stuff there;  “You make me sound like some messy teenager.”   Her mother simply wants to make sure she closes her bedroom door, to stop Huwi nosing around.   

"He put lipstick on Fireman Sam"

He found her lipstick and put it on Fireman Sam’s mouth.

"I hope he appreciates a designer brand"

Sioned regards this as a joke;  “I hope Fireman Sam appreciates a designer brand,” she laughs.   

"It's not funny, Sioned"

Eileen does not think it is funny, but Sioned cannot see that it matters if he does that;  

"I put lip glass on the lambs"

“I used to put lipgloss on the lambs, remember?”   

"I don't want him playing with your stuff"

Eileen says that is different, but just does not want Huwi playing with Sioned’s stuff.

Garry has been beaten by Gwern

Gwern is beating Garry at the computer game, accusing his father of being out of practice;  “I shall have to come over more often,” says Garry, and his son is looking forward to beating him again.

"Thanks for lunch, Dan"

Garry thanks Dani for lunch, but she says they have something to tell Gwern;  

"We've been trying to find the right time to tell you"

“We’ve been trying to find the right time to tell you and Seren, but . . .”

"I know – it's no big deal"

“You’re back together – I know – it’s no big deal,” Gwern replies, “Of course I’m OK with it – it’s cool – 

"Just don't kiss in front of me, OK?"

But just don’t kiss in front of me, OK?”   Both Garry and Dani laugh, 

"Wow – that was easy"

and she is surprised that it was so easy.

"It was just seeing you together"

Garry wonders why she said it now, and she tells him, “Just seeing you together, I remembered how nice it was to have you back here.   I didn’t tell the kids because . . . it raises the stakes, doesn’t it?   

"We've got a lot to lose"

“We’ve got a lot to lose.”

"Or a lot to gain!"

“Or a lot to gain,” Garry answers, “Our life back – as a family.”   Dani smiles.

Handyman Rhys is in action

In the back garden of number 9, Rhys is attempting some DIY;  “What are you going to be serving in this bar?” he asks Tesni, 

"I shall he making cocktails'

and she tells him there will be everything, plus she will be making cocktails.

“Will there be a discount for pensioners – or perhaps you’d like to call it ‘Mates’ Rates’?”   

"That was because Siôn is my ex"

She realises that he made a joke because Siôn is her ex, 

"All your friends are old"

but he maintains that all of her friends are old;  “Lisa, Cassie, Gwyneth.”

She explains this by saying when she goes out, she likes to be the one who looks the best;  

"That's why I'm friends with you and not your father!"

“That’s why I’m friends with you and not your father!”   He appreciates that her comebacks are improving, and is not sure that he likes it.   “You’d better get used to it, because do you know what Lapland has taught me?”

He imagines that she wants Father Christmas in her gang of friends;  

"I need to have more of a laugh"

“No, that I need to have more of a laugh – so why not bring a bit of Lapland to Cwmderi?   Come on, then – I need a glogi here tonight.   I’ve been a lot too sensible lately.”

"Bring back some supplies with you"

Rhys says he will have to go and show his face in Tomos ac Ellis, so she asks him to bring back some supplies with him.

"We could take the kids to the cinema"

Garry helps with the washing-up and suggests that they could take the kids to the cinema, now they have a reason to celebrate.   

"Good luck trying to get Gabriel to sit still"

“Good luck with trying to get Gabriel to sit still for two hours,” Dani says, and will not entertain the possibility of going without him.

"I promised Seren we could go"

“Come on, Dan – I can’t remember the last time we went to the cinema as a family,” he pleads.   She points out that Gabriel is family, and the cinema is not the place for a baby.   “Seren really wants to see this new film,” he whines, “I promised her.”

"OK – but Gabriel is coming as well"

Dani finally agrees, but is adamant that Gabriel is coming as well.

Ffion is at the end of her run . . .

Ffion has been for a run, 

. . . and Rhys comes across

and meets Rhys as he is on his way to Tomos ac Ellis;  

"He was on top form last night!"

“He was on top form last night – fair play!” he says, “He should have got ‘man of the match’ for his performance in the Deri – legend!”

"Those kind of stupid comments encourage him!"

Ffion turns and snarls, “Those are exactly the kind of stupid comments that encourage Cai to behave like a yob!   

Rhys is given a severe telling-off

“You and the rugby boys praise each other drinking too much – and treat misbehaving all the time as if it is something to be proud of!   

"What's wrong with you?"

“What’s wrong with you?”

"Blaming everyone and everything of Cai's behaviour"

Diane comes round the corner;  “Still at it, are you, Ffion?   Blaming everyone and everything for Cai’s behaviour, apart from Cai.”

"Talk to the man himself"

As Rhys walks away, Ffion suggests, “It might be better if you talked to the man himself, rather than following me around.”   

"I would, if I knew where he was hiding"

Diane would love to have a word with him, if she knew where he was hiding.   

“I haven’t seen him since last night – and he’s not answering his phone!” growls Ffion.

"Perhaps Emma would have a better idea"

“Perhaps Emma would have a better idea,” says Diane, but Ffion maintains that she and Cai understand each other, and that he will be back by tonight.

“I’m not going to let anyone come between us –  especially some ex from the other side of the world!” she rages.

"She'll report him for harassment"

“Emma wouldn’t touch him – and if he contacts her again, she’ll report him for harassment,” shouts Diane, 

"Keep your dirty little pig to yourself!"

“So keep your dirty little pig to yourself!”

Ffion breaks down in tears

Ffion has reached the door of Cysgod y Glyn and is in tears.
