Kelly looks in the mirror

As Kelly looks at herself in the mirror, 

"You look pretty today, Kelly"

Jason comments, “You look pretty today – not that you don’t look pretty every day, obviously.   Do you think I look pretty?”

“Leave it, Jase,” she tells him, “Or you’ll dig yourself into a massive, great big hole,” 

"Watch my lipstick!"

and as he attempts to kiss her, she adds, “Watch my lipstick!”   He asks if she is doing anything today, and she dismisses it as nothing exciting.

“Are you going to help Jinx with the ‘Mari Lwyd’?” he goes on, 

"I'm doing an interview with Jinx"

and she confirms that she is going to do an interview with him for the article.

They are off to Thailand

Gaynor has amassed quite a pile of luggage to take with her, and Hywel is looking at his camera, as he says it is an opportunity to take some good photos;  

Hywel is concerned about his camewra being stolen

“There’s a lot to see – but I am worried it will get stolen – we will stand out there.”

"Remember why we're doing this"

She encourages him to remember why they are doing this – to get out of their comfort zone;  

"It will be an unforgettable experience"

“And it will be an unforgettable experience for this family.”

"Kun chue a-rai . . ."

Esther comes in, attempting to pronounce a word in the phrasebook;  “Kun chue a-rai?   

". . . what's your name in Thai"

“What’s your name in Thai.”   Gaynor makes fun of Hywel’s concern about the girl missing out on her education.

Jinx completes his display

In the Antur, Jinx is pinning up on the wall various children’s interpretations of a horse’s head.   “Have you lost your phone, or what?” demands Kelly, as she comes in.   

"You should have told me about the burst water pipe"

“You could have told me about the burst water pipe outside Bethania – I’ve been phoning you for 20 minutes.”

"My phone's on silent"

He explains that his phone is on silent, and that he has moved into the Antur, as Bethania will be out of action for a while.   Kelly does not mind, as long as it is warm, 

"The children are going to make papier maché models as well"

and he informs her that he is going to get the children to make papier maché models as well.   

"You could have been an art teacher, Jinx"

“You could have been an art teacher,” she tells him, 

"Interview?"

“Interview?   Couple of questions, photo.”   

"What has it got to do with Sunday School?"

She turns her phone to record, and continues, “We all know that ‘Mari Lwyd’ is loads of fun, yeah – but what has it got to do with Sunday school?”

"There is a spiritual element to the 'Mari Lwyd'"

He begins by pointing out that there is no direct link with the Bible but there is a spiritual element to the ‘Mari Lwyd’. 

DJ has planted the memorial oak . . .

Out in the fields at Penrhewl, DJ has planted the oak sapling, which, like the rest of the nearby trees, is still in full leaf.   

"It will be here long after we've gone"

Sioned remarks, “It’s strange to think that this will be here long after we’re gone.”   

"It's the wrong time of year"

He maintains that the middle of winter is not the best time of year to plant a tree, and she wonders if they should have waited.   DJ thinks that it will be fine;  “That’s what oaks are famous for – their strength.”   

"Do you want me to come with you?"

She says that is what they need to be now – strong, and he again raises the possibility of accompanying her to the surgery this afternoon, but she is confident that she will be all right on her own.   

"You can give me a lift if you want"

“But you can give me a lift and wait outside if you want,” she adds.   He would like to do that, 

They look at their tree

and they look at their newly-planted tree.

"All kinds of traditions and stories"

Jinx continues, “There are all kinds of traditions and stories – and they seem to enjoy that.”   

"Ever thought about having your own kids?"

Kelly is sure that he does too, pointing out that he is really good with kids;  she wonders if he has ever thought about having his own.

“Silly question – I don’t see how it’s relevant,” he mutters and quickly changes the subject, 

"Sorry if I've upset you"

asking whether she needs a photo as well.   She apologises if she has upset him, but he just wants her to leave it, 

She takes a photo for her article

and she disappointedly takes a photo of him by the display.

"I see that Garry bought her a lot of presents"

Tyler comes into the Deri flat and is told by Dani that Seren loves Lego, just like he did.   “I see that Garry bought her a lot of presents as well,” he comments, and she asks him how his present from Eifion is;  “Any better?”   

"Don't think I shall see much of Iolo"

He grumbles that it is still sore and he does not think that he will see much of Iolo for a while.

“You’re such an idiot sometimes!” she tells him, 

Garry is bearing red roses

and at that moment, Garry arrives with some red roses.   “Are they for me?” she asks, innocently, 

"They're for 'Joe Calzaghe' over there!"

but Garry laughs that they are for ‘Joe Calzaghe’ over there.   

This does not go doewn well with Tyler 

Tyler is most definitely not amused.

Dani tells Garry to go and see the kids, while she puts the roses in water and thanks him for them.   

"He's just trying to prove that he's changed"

She explains to Tyler that he is just trying to prove that he has changed, and he snarls that he hopes she feels the same about him, then leaves the flat.

"Hiya, Kelly"

Kelly comes into the bookshop, where Ffion is browsing;  

"Ive just been interviewing Jinx"

“I’ve just done an interview with Jinx about the ‘Mari Lwyd’.”   Ffion is willing to help with the children singing around the village;  “OK, but which songs?   We don’t want boring ones, like,” Kelly stipulates, and a child has suggested “Elin Fflur’.

"You do know that the 'Mari Lwyd' usually goes round at night?"

Siôn cannot resist interrupting here;  “You do know that the ‘Mari Lwyd’ usually goes around at night?”   

"This is not supposed to be the 'usual' 'Mari Lwyd', Siôn"

Kelly insists that is the point – ‘usually’ – and this is not supposed to be the usual ‘Mari Lwyd’ event, but rather a contemporary interpretation.

"In the afternoon so the children can come"

“It’s in the afternoon so the children can come – makes sense?” she says, 

"But they will still sing the traditional songs?"

but Siôn hopes that they will still sing the traditional songs, because they are not boring at all.

He launches into a spirited rendering of, 

He demonstrates with great gusto

🎵“Well, here we come, honourable friends, 

To ask for permission, To ask for permission, 

To ask for permission to sing.”🎵

"Jinx is in charge"

He will go over the tune and the words with the children, if they want, but Ffion maintains that it is not up to her, but rather Jinx, who is in charge.   Siôn will get in touch with him, in that case.   

They look at each other

Kelly and Ffion look at each other.

"Sa wat dii ka – that means 'hello'"

Esther is trying out some more of her Thai words on Rhys;  “Sa wat dii ka – that means hello.”   

"People will be able to speak English"

He points out that people there will be able to speak English, but Gaynor comments that they like it when visitors make an effort to speak Welsh.

"No wild parties . . ."

Rhys assures them that he will look after the place, and Gaynor insists that there are to be no parties.   “No wild ones,” he promises, “Only joking – I’ll behave – 

". . . and I hope you behave yourself!"

“and I hope you do, as well!” he tells Esther.   They are all ready to leave;  Rhys wants Esther to bring him back a nice present.

Tyler looks depressed

Tyler looks glum, sitting at the bar;  

"Must be difficult seeing them back together again"

Cassie remarks, “I’m sure it must be very difficult, seeing Dani and Garry back together again, but you’ll get used to it.”

"What did you say?"

The puzzled look on his face makes Cassie realise that he did not know, 

"Oh-oh – put my foot in it again!"

and he rushes angrily back upstairs.

Siôn stalks out of the surgery

DJ is waiting outside the surgery when Sioned comes out, looking furious;  “What did they say, then?” he asks, 

"I want to be taken home!"

but she just wants to be taken home.

"Why did you deny you and Garry are back together?"

Tyler comes back into the Deri flat and shuts the door;  “Why did you deny that you and Garry are back together?” and she deduces that he has found out.   “Yes, through Cassie – why didn’t you tell me?” he rages.

"Because I knew you'd react like this"

“Because I knew you’d react like this,” she sighs.   

"It's stupid, Dan!"

He regards such a thing as stupid, but she answers that he cannot judge her;  she knows what she is doing.

"Garry's up to his old tricks!"

“Why do you always go back?   You don’t understand – you’ll get hurt again.   Garry hasn’t changed – he’s up to his old tricks – how can he afford all this?”   

"He's trying to be a good father"

She replies that he is spoiling the children because he is trying to be a good father, and he is trying hard with her as well.

"Well, you deserve better, Dan!"

“Well, you deserve better!” he tells her, and she answers that it is none of his business.   

Garry listens to this with amusement

Outside the closed door we see that Garry is lurking and smiling at what he can hear.

Siôn draws the line at this picture

Siôn has gone to see Jinx and looks at the various depictions of horse’s heads, but remarks that one does not look like a horse’s head.   

"It's a contemporary interpretation"

Jinx explains that it is a rhinoceros;  “It’s Brychan Prys’ contemporary interpretation of the ‘Mari Lwyd’.   He’s a nine year old boy – are you going to tell him he’s wrong?   

"You can't be wrong with art"

“You can’t be wrong with art – that’s the whole point.”

"You can't mix tradition with the contemporary"

Siôn is adamant, “You can’t mix folk tradition with the contemporary – it just doesn’t make sense.”   Jinx stresses that is merely Siôn’s opinion, but he insists, “I thought you appreciated the old tradition – you won’t have traditional singing either, will you?”

"Some Mickey Mouse version!"

“What’s the point of being angry, Siôn?   It’s a bit of fun!” says Jinx, but Siôn maintains that it would be fun if he did it properly, rather than some ‘Mickey Mouse’ version – a rhinoceros?” and he walks out.

Griffiths has been called to Bryntirion 

There is a knock at the door of Bryntirion, and Jason thanks Ieuan for coming over;  

The ring is returned to him

“There’s nothing wrong – it’s a bit embarrassing, to be honest,” and he hands back the ring.   

"She said no, then?"

Ieuan realises what has happened and is thanked for his kindness.

"Plenty more fish in the sea"

“Well, there are plenty more fish in the sea, as they say,” Ieuan comments, 

"No, we haven't finished – we love each other"

and Jason explains that they have not finished, but they are still together, for ever, because they love each other, 

"We don't need a piece of paper to prove that"

and they do not need a piece of paper to prove that.

Griffiths os more concerned with the contractual side

“But a contract provides more of a guarantee, doesn’t it,” Ieuan reminds him.

"Dani's not here"

Garry comes upstairs to the flat and is informed by Tyler that Dani is not there.   “I wanted to see you,” he is told, “I know you might not believe this now, 

"I think we can be good friends"

“but I think we can be good friends – that’s what I’d like – for Dani’s sake, and your sake.   I do worry about you;  I know that someone in your situation can be very lonely, 

"After what happened at Christmas"

“especially after what happened to you over Christmas – I can sympathise with that.”

"I dont want your sympathy"

Tyler makes it quite clear that he does not want Garry’s sympathy.   

"We both have to let Dani live her own life"

“The thing is, we both have to let Dani live her own life the way she wants to – thats only fair, isn’t it?”

"Kelly!"

Kelly is walking past the shop when Griffiths comes out and calls to her;  

"What's he want this time?"

she does not look particularly pleased to see him.   “I’m glad I caught you – I wanted to apologise – 

"I hope Mami's old ring didn't fail to impress you"

“I hope it wasn’t Mami’s old ring that failed to impress you, and that’s what you said no.”

"You what?"

Kelly cannot believe what she is hearing, so he elucidates, “The wedding ring – Mami’s,” 

Then he tries to escape

then realises that he has put his foot in it and says that he has to go back to work.

"'Scuse me, hanger-banger!"

“’Scuse me, hanger-banger!” she exclaims, 

"Jason used your mother's ring to propose to me?"

“Jason used your mothers ring to propose to me?” and Ieuan scuttles off back to the safety of Tomos ac Ellis.

"Unless I have recurrent miscarriages – three or more"

When they get back Penrhewl, Sioned explains to DJ and her mother, “She won’t do any more tests unless I have a recurrent miscarriages – three or more!”   

"She must think you have a good chance of getting pregnant again"

DJ points out that the doctor must think she has a good chance of getting pregnant again.   

"And lose another baby!"

“And what would happen then – lose another baby?” Sioned shouts, “That’s exactly why I wanted more tests!”

"It won't happen again – we were just unlucky"

DJ tries to comfort her;  “It’s only happened to you once, and it won’t happen again – we’re just unlucky,” 

Eileen looks reproving

and Eileen looks reproving.   

"There's nothing to stop us trying again"

“There’s nothing to stop us trying again.”

A phone call from Jason . . .

Kelly is sitting at a table in the Deri, when her phone rings 

. . . but Kelly is not inclined to answer it

and she can see that it is a call from Jason, so ignores it.   

"Can I get you another drink?"

Jinx is sitting opposite her and asks if she wants another drink;  

"Jason's probably wondering where I am"

“Do you know what?   I’d better not – Jason is probably wondering where I am,” she replies.

"This whole engagement thing is hanging over my head"

He senses that something is wrong;  “Oh – I don’t know – the whole engagement thing is hanging over my head, I suppose.”   

"He's angry with you for refusing?"

Jinx presumes that Jason is angry with her for refusing, 

"He proposed to me with Ieuan Griffiths' mother's ring!"

but she says, “No, I’m angry with him, actually – he proposed to me with Ieuan Griffiths’ mother’s ring, apparently.   

"Ah, yes"

I mean, that’s weird, isn’t it?”

"Would you propose with Ieuan's dead mother's ring?"

Jinx has his reservations about this;  “Would you propose with Ieuan’s dead mother’s ring?   Exactly!” she snaps.   As she prepares to leave, she adds, “I’m sorry if I upset you today – do you want to talk about it?” 

"No, I'm fine, Kelly"

but he insists that he is fine, 

She heads back to Bryntirion 

and Kelly leaves the Deri.

"You haven't told him. have you?"

At Penrhewl, Sioned is doing washing-up, and her mother says, “You haven’t told him, have you – that you lost a baby with Garry?   Why haven’t you told him?   He deserves to know.”

"There's no need to overcomplicate things"

Sioned insists that there is no need to overcomplicate things;  

"What happened between Garry and me is old news"

“What happened between Garry and me is old news.”   Eileen reminds her that this could affect her future, and what the GP said about recurrent miscarriages.

"DJ thinks you've only had one"

“DJ thinks you’ve only had one – but you’ve had two – it could affect your chances of getting pregnant in the future.”   Sioned simply wants her to leave it, but Eileen insists that she is not being fair to DJ.

"I'm not going to tell him!"

“I’m not going to tell him!” Sioned stresses, but her mother comments that lies in a relationship are not a good idea.   “And don’t you dare tell DJ!” Sioned snarls, 

"It's not your relationship"

“It’s not your relationship.”

DJ returns to apologise

At that moment DJ arrives;  “Look, I’m sorry if you thought I put pressure on you earlier about having another baby – we’ll take things slowly.   

"I'll do whatever you want"

“I just want you to know that I’m here for you, and I’ll do whatever you want.”   

"See, Eileen – I know who's boss!"

He tells Eileen that he knows who the boss is, and is now going back to Deri Fawr;  he will see Sioned soon.

"Just let him know what the options are"

As he comes round the corner into the alley, Garry is speaking on the phone (in English);  “Just let him know what the options are – yeah, that’s right – let’s have a chat about it next week.”   

Tyler is snooping

Then he notices Tyler following him;  

"Any one would think you were keeping tabs on me"

“Anyone would think you were keeping tabs on me,” 

"Just out for a walk"

but Tyler maintains that he is simply out for a walk.

“There are much nicer places to go for a walk,” Garry advises him, “You think I’m up to something, don’t you?   Stop being so paranoid – 

"I'm organising a surprise for Dani"

“I’m organising a surprise for Dani – I’m a nice guy – see?   But don’t tell her, will you?   

"Can I rely on you to keep a secret?"

“Can I rely on you to keep a secret – for Dani’s sake?   

"You're a fast learner"

“That’s what I like about you – you’re a fast learner.”

Tyler glowers at him

Garry walks away and Tyler scowls at him.
