"All right, where do I pick it up?"

Garry walks into the Deri, speaking on his phone;  “No, I can store things, but does it have to be tonight?   All right, where do I pick it up?   Swansea or Llanelli?   Text me back.”

Not another barman at the Deri?

As yet another barman passes by, 

Tyler is listening intently

Tyler, who is sitting nearby, shows considerable interest in Garry’s conversation.   

"It's nice for some"

Garry comments, “It’s nice for some – lounging around, drinking tea, reading the paper.”   

"I'm going to work now"

Tyler replies that he is going to work now, and is solemnly warned, “Be careful – you don’t want to have an accident!”

Tyler wonders what he means by that, 

"It's dangerous on a building site"

and Garry continues, “You work on a building site – it’s dangerous.   A friend of mine lost his fingers in a machine – it was horrible!   Happy  New Year.”   

Tyler is jumping to conclusions

When Tyler resumes reading the Western Post, he notices an item entitled ‘Concern over spate of robberies in Swansea’, which makes him think.

Ffion passes the shop

As Ffion walks past the shop she sees Cai approaching, 

"Oh, you're back then?"

and remarks, “Oh, you’re back, then.”   

"Thanks for your message"

He thanks her for her message, and she replies, “I got your text – 

"It would have been nice to hear your voice"

“although it would have been nice to hear your voice.”

"I've said a few stupid things recently"

He acknowledges that he has said a few stupid things recently, and she suggests that they should discuss that, 

"Somewhere other than the High Street"

“Somewhere other than the High Street.”

"We could have a night away"

“Yes, we could get out of the village if you want – some peace – a night away . . . sorry, what did I say about saying stupid things?”   Ffion invites him over for dinner tonight, but he points out that Rhys, Mathew and a couple of boys from the rugby club are going for a pint after work, arguing that the social side is important for team spirit.

"Come over when you've done enough socialising"

“Well, come over when you’ve done enough socialising, then,” she sighs, and he wonders why she is saying it like that, then, remarking that he will see her later, walks away.   

Get shot of him, Ffion!

Ffion is getting tired of his behaviour.

"Look who's popped in, Mathew"

Anita has just served a customer in APD when Jason comes in, announcing, “Look who’s popped in to say hello!”   He is told by Mathew to get back to work, and Mathew asks Diane what she thinks of the place.

"It's certainly different"

She answers that it is different, and Mathew is anxious for Jason to deal with that quote in Llanarthur;  “I don’t know where Eifion is, and Tyler’s ill – 

"I'm supposed to have a day off today"

“I’m supposed to have a day off today.”   Jason tells his mother that he should not be too long.

Diane looks displeased 

Diane looks critically at the dust on the edge of the shelves and Anita is busy with an invoice.   “Everything’s changed,” says Diane, as she puts a container of fertiliser on the correct shelf, 

"No café – or a chip shop"

“There’s no café any more – or a chip shop.”   

"Nothing stays the same, Diane"

Anita cannot imagine that she is missing the old Cwmderi, but points out that nothing stays the same.

"Is the gin club still going?"

“Is the Gin Club still going?” is the next question, 

"Not since Covid"

and Anita says that it finished during Covid;  she is still tied up with the invoice, so Diane will go, “As you have no time to gossip.”

"We can have a club just for ourselves"

Anita calls her back, “Listen, there’s no reason in the world why the two of us can’t have a club just for ourselves.”   

"If you have the time"

Diane hopes that she has the time, and Anita will see her later in the Deri.

Dani is berating Siôn and Jinx

Dani has summoned Siôn and Jinx and is complaining to them, “Seren has been having nightmares since Sunday school, because, for some reason, Uncle Siôn showed her a dead horse!”   

"That's why we're here to apologise"

Jinx points out that is why they are there – to apologise, and Siôn makes it clear that it was only a skull, which is the traditional ‘Mari Lwyd’.   He maintains that they should see the real thing.

"Why show them something so unsuitable?"

“Why show them something so unsuitable?” Dani demands, then turns to Jinx, “And why let him?”

Jinx argues that he wanted to create something modern and colourful, not to upset anyone.   “It’s only a skull – there is nothing to be frightened of – it’s like a dinosaur in a museum,” Siôn attempts to explain.

"She won't have to see Uncle Siôn's ugly old horse again"

Jinx assures Dani, “Just tell her that she won’t have to see Uncle Siôn’s ugly old horse again.   I’m going to make a new horse – a better one, using paint and wires.”   

"A Unicorn – Seren loves them!"

Dani has a better idea – a unicorn – Seren loves them, and Jinx considers that a great idea, 

San is outraged by the thought

although Siôn definitely does not agree.

Tyler approaches the garage . . .

Tyler walks round to the garage 

. . . and attempts to get in

and tries to open the roller shutter door;  

"What are you doing?"

Garry has followed him and demands what he is doing.   

"Keeping an eye on it for Brynmor"

“Brynmor asked me to keep an eye on his stuff,” Tyler lies, which Garry regards as very odd, 

"He's not using it any more"

as Brynmor had his notice when Garry moved back to the village.   Tyler says that he must have misunderstood.

“Yes, you must have,” Garry smiles, 

"I'm a nice guy, you see"

“But don’t worry, I won’t tell Brynmor about the ‘misunderstanding’ – I’m a nice guy, you see.”   

Garry is highly amused

Tyler slinks away and Gary is grinning.

In the Deri, Rhys is informing a customer that he will send the details when he is back in the office;  

Mathew arrives in the Deri

Mathew joins him and Cai at the bar, 

"Chase women in the Swansea clubs?"

where Cai proposes, “A couple of pints here, then chase women in the Swansea clubs?”   Mathew does not think so, as he has work tomorrow.   “I didn’t let work affect my social life when I was your age,” brags Cai, 

"Nothing has changed, then"

and Rhys comments that nothing has changed, then.   

"Bit of a 'know-it-all', but pretty"

“What’s happened to Tegwen, Math?” Cai asks, “She was pretty – bit of a ‘know it all’, but pretty.”   

"She's with someone else now"

Mathew replies that she is with someone else now.

“Oh, I’m sure you’ll find someone else soon enough, with your good looks,” he is told, and Cai drains the last of his glass, then proposes to buy the next round.   

"We drank a lot over Christmas"

They will both have a lager, but nothing else, as they both drank a lot over Christmas.

"You two are as miserable as each other"

“You two are as miserable as each other,” Cai tells them, as he downs another whisky in one gulp.

Kelly is going out

Kelly is just preparing to go out when Jason comes home;  she does not seem keen to talk to him, as he asks, “Will you be back soon?   I thought we could have dinner in the Bull – as a treat – for a change.”

"No can do, sorry!"

In the doorway she turns and tells him, “No can do, sorry – I’ve promised to help Jinx with the ‘Mari Lwyd’ in Yr Antur.   Is that OK?”

"It looks as if you're trying to avoid me"

Jason says it is no problem at all, but, it appears that she is trying to avoid him;  “I haven’t done anything to upset you have I?   Does this have anything to do with Sara?”

"If you, like decide –in the really distant future . . ."

Kelly smiles, “If you, like, decide to proposed to me again – in the really distant future – 

"Can you pick your own ring, please"

“can you pick your own ring, please?   

"Ieuan Griffiths' Mam?"

“Ieuan Griffiths’ Mam?”   

"Yeah – rather a bad move"

He acknowledges that it was rather a bad move and she leaves the house.

"I'd say you've had too good service" 

Cai, who is in his usual inebriated state, asks if there is any chance of getting served in this place.   “I’d say you had good service – too good, perhaps,” Cassie reprimands him, but he points out the customer is always right.   She maintains that is not the case this time.

A text appears on his phone . . .

Then he receives a text from Ffion, 

. . . summoning him for dinner

advising that dinner is almost ready, so he asks for a double whisky, because he does not have much time.   He turns to see Diane and Anita coming in.

"Why didn't you tell me that dog was back?"

“Why didn’t you tell me that dog was back in the village?” Diane snarls.

"You miserable old cow!"

He responds, “Don’t call me a dog, you miserable old cow!”   

"Let's go somewhere else, Diane"

Anita proposes that they go somewhere else, 

"Yes, take that ugly face out of here!"

and he comments, “Yes, take that ugly face out of here, for heaven’s sake!   Asp from the past!”

"I haven't forgotten what you did!"

Diane appears to be tempted to hit him, but simply comments, “I might be from the past, but I haven’t forgotten what you did!”   He tells her to get over it, 

"You broke Emma's heart!"

and she continues, “I’ll never forgive you for breaking Emma’s heart!”

"What business is that of yours?"

“What business is it of yours – you’re not even her real mother,” he insists, and Cassie orders him out of the pub.   “I’m not going anywhere,” he immediately protests, 

"Ffion's on her way"

and Cassie warns him that Ffion is on her way.

"You're ruining her life now, are you?"

This comes as a surprise to Diane;  “Ffion – you’re ruining her life now, are you?”

He drunkenly maintains that some women deserve to be treated decently;  “Unlike miserable old things like you and your daughter – good night!”   

Mathew escorts him out of the pub

Mathew shepherds him out of the door and Diane growls, “Good riddance!”   

"Sorry about that, ladies"

Cassie apologises for this disturbance and will give the ladies a drink on the house.

Mathew has returned and asks if Diane is all right;  

"It takes more than that swine to upset me!"

“It takes more than that swine to upset me!” she replies.

Tyler is keeping watch on the garage

In the Deri flat, Tyler is peering through the blind at the street below;  Dani comes in, complaining, “I don’t know how much they’ll sleep, because they’re all wound up after watching Jumanji and eating popcorn.”   

"Most of the popcorn is on the floor"

Tyler remarks that most of the popcorn seems to be on the floor, but they did enjoy themselves.

"Expecting Garry back tonight?"

“So are you expecting Garry back tonight?” he enquires, but she is not sure, and never knows where he is, so Tyler will stay and keep her company.   

"We can watch another film . . ."

They can watch another film – one for adults this time – 

". . . Shaun of the dead"

and he selects ‘Shaun of the Dead’, which is one of her favourites.   She goes to get some wine.

"It's almost ready to paint"

In the Antur, Jinx requests some more pieces of the Western Post from his assistant, and he thinks that the head will be ready to paint.   

"Well – there's purple and . . . purple!"

Kelly asks what colours he has, and apparently there are only two different shades of purple.

"What colour is a Unicorn?"

“OK, so tell me, Jinx, what colour is a unicorn?”   They both come to the conclusion that it is purple.   

"You really enjoy putting a smile on the kids faces, don't you?"

“You really do enjoy putting a smile on the kids’ faces, don’t you?” she laughs, and looks at him once again in that same manner.

"I'm sorry about what I said the other day"

Walking over to him, she goes on, “I’m sorry about what I said the other day,” and he replies that he overreacted.

"Jaclyn was pregnant"

“This Jaclyn thing – that’s why I was touchy.   You didn’t know?   She was pregnant.”   

"Oh, I'm so sorry, Jinx"

Kelly suddenly realises that it was his baby, and is so sorry.   

"I thought you deserved an explanation"

“You don’t need to be – I thought you deserved an explanation about why I was so odd with you last week.”

"I'm here for you, any time, Jinx"

“I don’t want you to explain anything – I just want you to know that I’m here for you – any time,” she assures him.   

It's that look again

They look into each others’ eyes again, and it appears that a kiss may be imminent, but once more they avoid it.

"If you start with the purple . . ."

“So if you start with the purple – I will start with the, erm, purple!” she suggests.

"It was so embarrassing!"

As Cai sprawls on the sofa, Ffion is berating him, “It was so embarrassing – Cassie texting me to come and get you – like you were a naughty little boy!”   

"It was those young ones"

His excuse is that the younger boys were pushing the pace, 

"The sea bass is ruined!"

and she describes him as, “Childish!   And this sea bass is bone dry in the oven now, because I was distracted by your nonsense!”

"And did you book that holiday?"

He grunts that he is sorry, but she continues, “And did you book that holiday for us?”   He says that he did not think she wanted to go, 

"I think I deserve a treat"

but Ffion insists, “Well, I think I deserve a treat after everything that’s happened.”

"Yeah – we can – some time"

“Yeah – we can – some time?” he slurs, then awkwardly gets up 

He has a job to keep his balance

and stumbles towards her.   

"You stink of whisky!"

She is repulsed, accusing him of stinking of whisky, 

"Sit down, before you fall down!"

and instructs him to sit down again, before he falls down.   

He subsides on to the sofa

She will get him some water and toast;  he collapses in a heap on the sofa.

"Here he is in the Drama Club"

At a table in the Deri, Anita is showing Diane photographs of Ifan;  “Here he is in the Drama Club – you should have seen it – he was wonderful.   Every time he came on the stage, he waved at me – he’s such a darling, you know.”

How long has he been in a Drama Club?"

Diane wants to know how long he has been in a drama club, and is told, “Oh, it’s been a while now – didn’t you know?”   Diane says Jason must have forgotten to tell her, and grumbles that the child does not take much notice of his real grandmother, as he is always on his iPad.

"He's a bit shy with new people"

Anita makes the excuse that he is just a bit shy with new people, but Diane stresses that she is not new.   

"You know what Cai's like"

Cassie interrupts to apologise about earlier;  “You now what Cai’s like,” 

"There are still idiots like him around"

and Diane sneers that not everything has changed in Cwmderi, but there are still idiots like him around.

“And he’s going out with Ffion now?”   Cassie remarks that it is a case of the headteacher and the deputy.   

"Small parochial mentality"

“There’s one thing I don’t miss – the small parochial mentality – everyone living in each other’s pockets,” Diane continues, “Everyone knowing each other’s business.”

"So people in Australia don't stick their noses in?"

“So people in Australia don’t stick their noses in?” enquires Anita, and is told that it is much more open there – much healthier.   Cassie says that it sounds as if she has settled well in Australia, and Diane regrets not going out there earlier.   She cannot wait to go back there, either, and now has to go and visit to the toilet.

"The lady doth protest too much"

In her absence, Anita says she feels sorry for Diane, adding, “The lady doth protest too much.   She obviously hates being there – that’s why she’s going on and on about the place.”   

Cassie is rather bemused

Cassie cannot quite follow her reasoning.

"Well, it's definitely purple!"

The painting of the ‘Mari Lwyd’ unicorn is proceeding apace, with Jinx pronouncing that the head is definitely purple.   

Kelly recalls her childhood

“Do you know what?” says Kelly, “It reminds me of My Little Pony I wanted when I was a little girl – ‘Princess Starburst’, bright yellow with a purple mane.”

“And a star down the side, yeah?” he asks, and Kelly wonders how he knew that, 

"It's probably Arwen"

so his excuse is that it is probably Arwen.

"You had one, Jinx – that's so cute!"

“Oh my gosh!   You had one, Jinx – that’s so cute!” she exclaims, and as they laugh, Jason comes in, carrying two bags.

"Takeaway for the workers"

“Who fancies a curry?   Takeaway for the workers,” he informs them, “As we cannot go to the Bull, Happy New Year!”   

"Just what I needed"

Jinx says that is just what he needed, 

Apparently Kelly does not agree

but Kelly is less enthusiastic.

The glass of water has been knocked over

Cai is in a drunken stupor on the sofa and has knocked over his glass of water.   

Ffion finds a message from Emma in Australia

Ffion brings over two slices of toast and fetches a cloth to mop up the water.   As she does so, his phone sounds, so she picks it up and discovers a text from Emma, which reads, ‘Leave me alone, Cai.   I’m happy and I’ve moved on.’

Ffion is not happy

She looks very angry, 

Cai sleeps off his binge

and as he continues to slumber, 

Ffion investigates his phone

she takes the phone and begins to look through it, 

He has been looking at hotels . . .

finding some details of luxury hotels.   

. . . and books one

She looks at him, snoring away, and presses the ‘book now’ button.

"I'd forgotten how funny this is . . ."

In the Deri flat, Dani and Tyler have reached the end of the film;  “I’d forgotten how funny this was,” says Dani, 

". . . lucky the kids are in bed"

“Lucky the kids are in bed!”

Tyler predicts that they would not sleep tonight with all the zombies in the film.   She wants him to pause it while she goes to the toilet, 

"Garry is not coming over"

but when she gets up she receives a text message from Garry;  “Not coming over now – something’s come up.”

As soon as Dani is out of the way . . .

Tyler suggests that he should stay there tonight, and she imagines that he is scared of the Cwmderi zombies.   “No, I’m just not in the mood to see Mark Jones,” he answers.   Dani tells him that the sofa is available.

. . . and looks out of the window

As soon as she is out of the room, he peers through the blind once again, 

Garry opens the van door . . .

and sees Garry, opening the back doors of a van 

. . . and takes out a large box

and taking large boxes from it.   

Tyler thinks he is 'one upon Garry

Tyler smiles triumphantly, thinking that he has caught Garry.
