Ieuan is awakened by Kath's voice

As Ieuan is waking up on the sofa in the Deri flat, he hears Kath’s voice, shouting for Cassie.

"Did you go too the Cash & Carry?"

He recalls the happenings of last night and feels for his phone.   Kath has now phoned Cassie;  “Did you go to the cash and carry?” she asks, but then notices Ieuan.

"What on earth are you doing here?"

“What on earth are you doing here?” she demands

The two of them . . .

and they look

. . . look at each other

at each other.

Rhys is trying to rouse Ieuan

Meanwhile, Rhys is hammering on the door of number 7, in an effort to wake Ieuan;

"Haven't seen Ieuan, have you?"

Gwern comes across the road and is asked if he has seen Ieuan, which he has not, so Rhys continues knocking.

"Ieuan, are you there?"

He peers through the letterbox, shouting, “Ieuan, are you there?”

He backs into the road without checking

Then he walks backwards into the road to look at the upstairs windows, and is warned by a car horn that he is in the way.

“Did you stay here all night?” asks Kath,

"That's Rhys!"

then they hear the car horn and Rhys shouting, “Ieuan!”   He realises that he is required and hurries out of the pub.

"No, still no sign of him

Rhys has a phone call from Kelly;  “No, still no sign of him!” he says,

"I'm outside the house now"

“I’m outside the house now – I haven’t got a key,”

Here comes Ieuan

but at that moment Ieuan is approaching from the direction of the Deri.

"All right – I've found him"

Rhys notices Ieuan coming along the street and tells Kelly, “I’ve found him.”

"Where on earth have you been?"

“What happened to you?   Where on earth have you been?”

"What's going on?"

Ieuan wants to know what is going on and is informed, “Anita is in hospital with an infection – a UTI.”  [Urinary Tract Infection]

"They're worried it could turn into sepsis"{

“They’re worried that it could turn sepsis.”

Howard is washing the quad bike

In the farmyard, Howard is washing down the quad bike;  Sioned complains that she is shattered after last night.

"Dorian didn't have to go"

Howard is adamant that Dorian did not have to go.

"I'm not having someone like that in my home"

“Yes, he did – I’m not having someone like that in my home, especially with the kids around!” she insists.

"Its might not be your home much longer"

He reminds her that it might not be her home for much longer;  “I can’t save the farm on my own.”   She points out that, apart from the fence down there, things are much better and he explains that is because of Dorian.

"Why do you always defend him?"

“Why do you always defend him?   He’s disgusting – and he treats you like a piece of dirt – he doesn’t deserve you.”

Howard acknowledges that he is not perfect, “But neither am I –

"You gave me another chance"

“and you gave me another chance.   Dorian was my only chance of taking over the farm and now he’s gone.

"I don't want that guy near this place"

Sioned makes it clear that she is not going to change her mind;  “I don’t want that guy near this place again.”   Howard throws down the hosepipe, telling Sioned that he is meant to be at APD today,

"I can't do everything"

so it is up to her to look after the farm;  he cannot do everything.

He is about to drive away

He puts on the helmet and drives away.

Kath is clearing up . . .

Now that Ieuan has gone, Kath clears up after him, picking up the glasses from the table and an empty crisp bag.

. . . and comes across a note . . .

She finds a note by the coffee machine,

. . . help yourself to coffee

‘Help yourself to coffee,” which she assumes is an invitation to Ieuan –

She is making assumptions

and appears to be jumping to conclusions.

At last Ieuan is at the hospital

Ieuan rushes into the hospital, heading for the room which Kelly told Rhys.

"Where the hell have you been?"

Kelly does not mince her words, “Where the hell have you been?   You’re in a right state.”

"He stinks of booze!"

When he goes to Anita’s bedside, Kelly continues, “He stinks of booze.”   Rhys under the impression that he has had a big night.

"Do you want me to give the place a once-over?"

Dani is on her way to do the cleaning at the Deri and calls in at MFC;  “Do you want me to give the place a once-over before going to the Deri?”  she asks Britt, “Mind you, you’re doing a good job yourself.”

"Sorry I didn't answer that letter"

Dani’s real reason for calling in is to apologise for letting Britt down and not answering that letter.   “I just don’t think I’m in the right place to do it at the moment.”

"Don't worry, Dani"

Britt replies that she understands and that Dani should not worry;

"What's wrong, Britt?"

however, it is obvious that something is troubling her.

Talk to me – what's going on?"

“Britt, talk to me – what’s going on?”

"I'm fine – how about you?"

Garry approaches Gwern, who is standing outside The Pizza Place, asking if he is all right.   “Yes, I’m fine – how about you?”

"Why are you acting weird?"

He maintains that Garry is acting weirdly, but this is denied.

"I'm worried about Britt"

Then he is asked if he has seen Britt today;  “I’m worried that Colin has been away for a while now and she might be lonely,” says Garry.

"Well, go and see her, then"

He is advised that he should go and see her, then;  “I don’t know why you’re telling me.”

"You've got this place looking nice"

Garry remarks that he has the place looking nice and then walks away.

"I want that gun back, Garry!"

When he passes Howard, he is told, “I want it back – I know you’re going through a lot at the moment, but I want that gun back.   You’ve had it a week and someone’s bound to notice.”

"I'm going to keep it as long as I want"

“After last night, I’m going to keep that gun as long as I want,” says Garry.

Then he notices . . .

He continues walking along the High Street and then notices, on the other side of the road,

. . . Britt talking to Dani . . .

Britt, exclaiming, “I don’t know what to do, Dani!” as she closes the door of MFC.

. . . and knows what they are talking about

He knows exactly what they are talking about.

"What happened to your face?"

As they sit either side of Anita's bed, Kelly demands, “What happened to your face?”   He says that he fell and that it is nothing.   “Hammered last night, were you?” Kelly sneers.

"Is that antibiotics?"

He asks whether Anita is being given antibiotics.

"But she's not responding"

“But she’s not responding– they’re going to keep trying.   If this continues, they are going to give her Amoxicillin or something.

"I hope that works, because if not . . ."

“I hope that works, because if not . . .”

Rhys brings coffee

Rhys comes in with coffees for Ieuan and Kelly;

"Why didn't Brynawelon notice?"

Ieuan demands how it has come to this stage.   “Why didn’t Brynawelon notice before now?”

"It would have helped if you answered your phone"

Kelly points out that it would have helped if he had answered his phone;

"I lost it last night"

he confesses that he lost it last night.

"I'm not the one you need to say sorry to"

“I’m not the one you need to say sorry to.”

Garry closes MFC

Garry comes into MFC and turns the sign to read ‘closed’.

"I told you not to say anything"

“I told you not to say anything,” he reprimands Britt.

“You can’t expect her to keep it to herself while Colin’s away, Garry,” Dani tells him.

"She wasn't supposed to know in the first place"

“She wasn’t supposed to know in the first place!” he growls.

"You don't control me any more"

Britt speaks up, “The thing is, you don’t control me any more.”

She opens the shop again

She gets up and turns over the sign again to read ‘open’,

"You no longer exist in my eyes"

then goes on, “So if you won’t accept the treatment, you no longer exist in my eyes.”

When he objects to this, she asks, “Can I hear something?   I think there’s a ghost in the room.”

"Britt, can we have a minute, please?"

Dani asks her to give them a moment;  “I’m sorry to hear about the cancer, but how could you?

"You're really not going to accept the treatment?"

“You’re really not going to accept the treatment?”   He confirms that is true.

“So you want to be ill?”

"That's the situation I'm in"

He argues that he does not want to be, but that is the situation he is in and that is what is happening.

"You're going to die, Gar"

She reminds him that he is going to die;

"Perhaps I deserve it"

“Perhaps I deserve it.” he sighs and she appreciates that it is because of Seren.

"Does that mean I deserve to die as well?"

“So does that mean I deserve to die as well?” Dani demands,

"I have a voice up here that agrees with you"

“Because I have a voice up here and it agrees with you.   I failed to keep her safe – I failed as a mother, so, by your logic, I deserve to suffer as well.”

"That's not what I'm saying"

Garry maintains that is not what he is saying;  she realises that is why he was at the hospital when she had the abortion.

"I assume I shall have to tell Gwern"

“You wanted to know everything about my decision, but you werent going to say anything about this.   “I assume that I shall have to tell Gwern.”

"I don't want that"

He does not want that, arguing that he is trying to sort things and get things right, but she will not accept that;

"You're going to tell your son everything"

“No, Garry, if you want to control this, you’re going to tell your son everything, before he finds out from somebody else.   That’s the least he deserves, isn’t it?”

In the sunshine at Penrhewl

As they sit outside Penrhewl in the sunshine, Sioned asks Mathew whether Howard had to work at APD today.

Th cast is due to come off tomorrow

He explains that Ieuan is in hospital with Anita, “And, although this cast comes off tomorrow, I won’t be able to do much, apart from sit behind the counter at APD, so I need Howard there.   But I can tell him to close early today if you want him here.”

"If he's stopped sulking, that is"

“If he’s stopped sulking, that is,” adds Sioned, “I can’t believe it – I gave that Dorian so many opportunities!”   Mathew agrees that she did the right thing, but is just sorry that he cannot help out more.

"He can't run this place on his own"

“Howard’s right about the farm, though – he can’t run this place on his own while he’s still working at APD – it’s impossible!” Sioned points out.

"If your mother doesn't give him the farm . . ."

“If your mother doesn’t give him the farm, he’ll be happy to have a job and we will be glad that APD is still open,” says Mathew.

"But this is his dream, you know that"

“But this is his dream, you know that.   If he’s reacted like this to Dorian leaving, how will he react if he loses the farm?” demands Sioned.

Mathew is left thinking about it

Mathew is left to ponder this problem.

"Ieuan is feeling guilty"

Ieuan looks at Anita, who is still lying motionless;  he feels guilty as he adjusts her pillow

"I'm so sorry, Anita"

and tearfully tells her, “I’m so sorry, Anita.”

"Has anyone handed in a phone?"

In the Deri, Rhys comes to ask if anyone has handed in a phone.   As Kath goes to fetch it, he says, “I heard it was a big night in here.”

"Yes, that's Griffiths'"

He recognises it as Griffiths’ phone.

“How is he, then?   I heard about Anita.”

"I'm worried about Ieuan"

Rhys admits that he is worried about Ieuan;  “I don’t think he went home and he’s got a bruise on his face – I don’t know where he went after being here.”

"He stayed here last night – upstairs . . ."

Kath tells him in confidence, “He stayed here last night – upstairs – Cassie is the one who knows.   I was flat out with this throat –

". . . I saw him leave this morning"

“but I saw him leave this morning– just know that he was safe here.”

Now Rhys is more worried

“I think you’ve given me something worse to worry about,” groans Rhys,

"I imagine Cassie was with him"

“I imagine Cassie was with him and that was why he was up there.”

"What's for lunch, Dan?"

Gwern comes in the back door of Maes-y-Deri, asking Dani what is for lunch;

Not a lot in the fridge

as he looks into the rather empty fridge, she asks him if he is OK.   “I’m starving, but I can’t eat another pizza,” he tells her.

"I want to chat about something important"

“I want to chat about something important,” she begins,

"Why is everyone being weird today?"

so Gwern wonders why everyone is being weird today.

“Dad kept asking if I was all right earlier,” he goes on, while Dani wants him to know that she is there for him and that they are a team.

"I just want to do the right thing"

She just wants to do the right thing.

"You're really freaking me out now!"

“You’re freaking me out now!” says Gwern, then Garry, who has been sitting there quietly out of sight, gets up and walks towards him.

Now Garry puts in an appearance

“Gwern,” he says

"What are you doing here?"

and Gwern wants to know what he is doing there.

"I forgot my lunch"

Howard returns to Penrhewl, explaining to Mathew that he forgot his lunch.

"You can close early today, if you want"

He is asked whether APD was busy this morning and, when told that it was not, Mathew adds, “You can close early today, if you want to – so you can do whatever needs to be done here this afternoon.   Sioned was out with the sheep first thing –

"She wants you to succeed . . ."

“she wants you to succeed,

". . . don't you, Sions?"

“don’t you, Sions?” he goes on, just as Sioned comes in.

"You mean a lot to me as well"

“This farm means everything to me – and you mean a lot to me as well,” she tells Howard.

Mat is looking at subcontracting work

Mathew has been looking at companies he can use to subcontract APD work temporarily until he is fit enough to do the work himself – or, at least, he is looking into it.

"That will cost money"

Howard points out that he will lose money;

“A little, perhaps, but it will be worth it to see you running this place.”

"If we stay here"

Sioned continues, “And we might be able to save some money if we stay here and don’t have to rent somewhere else.”

"You're meant to be a farmer"

Mathew is sorry that they have not been more supportive of him;  “You’re meant to be a farmer and I’m not going to stand in your way.”

Howard is getting all emotional

Howard is becoming quite emotional as he thanks them.

"I've got cancer"

Garry is informing Gwern, “I've got cancer – prostate.”

"How serious is it?"

Gwern asks how serious it is and is told this is stage two,

"It's still early"

which Dani confirms is early.

"When are you having chemo, then?"

“OK – when are you having the chemo, then?” Gwern asks,

"I'm not"

with Garry answering that he is not.   “Why?”

“I’m not going to have the treatment, which means I’m not going to get better.”

"As if!"

Gwern cannot understand this;  “As if!” he snarls, but his father insists that he is serious.

"Fancy a bit of attention, do you?"

“Fancy a bit of attention, do you?   No offence, I’ve lost Mam, I’ve lost a sister – I think I’m a bit immune.”

"I bought you a business"

Garry is offended;  “That’s nice, isn’t it?   I bought you a business and set you up for life when I’m gone!”

"Oh, that's what it was, is it?"

“Oh – that’s what it was, is it?” Gwern demands.

"I'm trying to improve things"

Garry knows very well that he has made life difficult for Gwern and is now just trying to improve things.

"You're just doing it for the attention . . ."

“No – you’re just doing it for the attention – you’re hurting us so that you can save the day like a hero –

". . . when you're casing the problems!"

“when you’re the one causing the problems in the first place!”

"Know what's going on in my head, do you?"

“You think you know what’s going on in my head, do you?” growls Garry

"Stuff The Pizza Place – I don't want it!"

“Yes, I do – stuff The Pizza Place – I don’t want it!   Do what you want!”

Not quite the desired outcome

Gwern walks out of the house, which was not the result which Garry had been intending.

Rhys is back at the hospital

Rhys is back at the hospital, where he finds Ieuan;

"You're playing with fire!"

“You’re playing with fire, aren’t you?   You’re married, Uncle Ieu!”

In response, he is told, “It’s not what you think.”

Kelly has been talking to the staff

“Isn’t it?   So you didn’t spend last night with Cassie?”

"Yes - but not like that!"

“Yes – but not like that – let me explain . . .”

Kelly has bad news

At that moment Kelly returns from speaking to a nurse.

"She's still not responding to the antibiotics . . ."

She advises that Anita is still not responding to the antibiotics

". . . things are not looking good"

and that things are not looking good.
