1 July 2026

Garry is at Penrhewl

Garry walks purposefully across the farmyard,

Howard has a shotgun

where he meets Howard who is coming out of a barn, carrying a shotgun.   “Check it if you want,” says Howard, There’s no-one home – the cartridges are in the box.

"No-one can trace it back here?"

“Are you sure no one will trace the gun back to this place?”

"I'm more careful than that"

“Of course I am,” Garry replies, “If you get into trouble, I’ll get into trouble – I’m more careful than that.

"£2,000 as agreed"

“Here you go – £2,000, as promised – don’t spend it all at once.”

Howard is very pleased

Howard says that Garry has no idea how much of a difference this will make, but Garry reminds him that he has been telling everyone how skint he is;

"If you flash the cash . . ."

“If you flash the cash . . .”   Howard gets the message and will be careful.

"Very good"

In the kitchen of the deli, Eileen is checking that her employee has made a good job of the nibbles, then she notices that Mark is moving the tables.

"They won't be able to avoid the Tamed signs"

“That’s in the right place now, because wherever the Western Post takes photos, they won’t be able to avoid the Tamed signs.”

Dorian, buttering up Eileen

Dorian comes in, commenting, “Here she is, the Catherine Zeta-Jones of Cwmderi!   And here’s the daughter – and the partner, is it?   Siôn?”

Eileen reveals her revulsion

Eileen looks disgusted at the very suggestion;  “Oh no, I’d never . . .”

"Mark Jones, postman . . ."

Mark introduces himself as the village postman,

". . . and Eileen's dogsbody"

“And Eileen’s dogsbody – although I don’t know how.”

Dorian thinks that he would enjoy being a postman,

"Housewives in their dressing gowns"

with all those housewives opening doors in their dressing gowns.   “I don’t want to complain, but I haven’t had breakfast – after grafting since six.”

"Sioned!"

Eileen reprimands Sioned, adding, “What would you like?   A steak and kidney pie?   Samosas?   A quiche?   Or one of each?”

"It's not his fault if there's no food"

She instructs Sioned, “Don’t charge for them – its not his fault if there was no food at home.   We are having a ‘do’ here later – the Western Post is coming and I expect you to be here, Dorian.”

I wouldn’t miss it for the world, Catherine,” he replies,

Off he goes with his free meal

takes his free food and leaves.   Mark is removing various bottles from a case, while Eileen is now displaying Cae Glas logos.

"That was so embarrassing!"

“That was so embarrassing!” complains Sioned, “Tell her, Mark.”

He is of much the same opinion;

"Advertising for Tamed"

“And it’s clear that this is nothing more than advertising for Tamed!”

"More chips on your shoulder that at MFC"

Eileen tells him to chill out, as he has more chips on his shoulder than in MFC.

"Do you think you will be able to forgive me?"

In the MFC flat, Eleri wonders, “Do you think, perhaps one day you will be able to forgive me?”

"It's not a matter of forgiveness"

Jinx regards it not as a matter of forgiveness, because in a way he understands why she hid the truth about Kyle after arriving in the village.   “You wanted a new life, a new business.”

She agrees that no one would have trusted her if they knew the truth.

"You slept with him instead of coming to me"

“But what I’ll never be able to understand – or forget – is the fact you slept with him instead of coming to me.”

"I was afraid of losing you"

She maintains that she was afraid of losing Jinx, afraid of what Kyle might do to him;

"Please don't throw away what we've got"

“Please don’t throw away what we’ve got.”

"What have we got?    A load of lies!"

“What have we got?” he demands, “Just a load of lies.   I feel as if I don’t know you any more.”

Siôn approaches the Deri

Siôn walks along the road towards the Deri, where Cassie thanks him for sorting out the drain;

"Those disgusting smells are gone"

“Those disgusting smells are gone, just in time for the summer.”

"That must have been Mark"

He points out that he was not responsible, so it must have been Mark.

"Enjoy the celebrations"

As she turns to go back inside, she hopes that he will enjoy the celebration, but he does not know what she is talking about and heads straight for Tamed to see Eileen,

More advertising is going up

who is still putting up advertising signs all over the place.

"What are you doing here?"

“What are you doing here?   This was supposed to be a surprise!” she exclaims.

"Is this for me?"

Siôn cannot believe that this is for him,

"And for the village – according to Eileen"

but Mark adds, “And for the village – according to Eileen.”

"Why are you always so negative?"

“Why are you always so negative?” she snarls, so he reminds her that she originally said this was a community event.   “I wanted to raise your profile, as you’re such a popular councillor, so I want you to leave and come back at four o’clock – and act totally surprised in front of the Western Post.   Just make sure you stand in front of a Tamed sign in every photo with a canapé in your hand.”

"I can't believe this!"

This is the last straw for Mark;  “I can’t believe this!   Is anything done for the right reasons these days?”

He picks up his jacket and walks out, while Eileen instructs Siôn not to worry about him;

"You ned to remember that, Mark Jones!"

“You’re the councillor – and everyone needs to remember that, especially Mark Jones!”

"That isn't the way to treat him"

Siôn reminds her, “Who does an awful lot for this village – that isn’t the way to treat him!” as he storms out of the deli.

"I don't know why I bother!"

“I don’t know why I bother!” grumbles Eileen.

"Because of the publicity you're going to get?"

“Because of all the publicity you’re going to get, perhaps?” comments Sioned.

Mark goes to the Deri instead

Mark goes into the Deri where he asks for a coffee.

"I'm truly sorry"

Siôn follows him in;  “I’m truly sorry – I had no idea Eileen was organising this.”

"It's a good idea – for the right reasons"

Mark stresses that he does think it is a good idea – for the right reasons – but that is not why Eileen is doing it.

"We can do it for the right reasons'

Siôn proposes that they can do it for the right reasons, but Mark has had enough;

'I don't want anything to do with it"

“I don’t want anything to do with it any more, sorry, OK?”

"The event would'n exist"

Siôn protests that the event would not exist if it was not for the work Mark has done.

"Not to promote Tamed!"

“Yes, because the village needs the help – not to promote Tamed!” Mark snaps

“But if the Western Post is going to be there, think about the good we can do and all the campaigns we can highlight.   Eileen may have unintentionally given us a great opportunity.   Come on, Mark, Cwmderi needs you.”

"Where are you going?"

Jinx appears to be going out somewhere, so Eleri demands where he is going;  “I’ve told you, to meet a client,” he replies, but she is adamant that he cannot do that.   “There’s no sign of your husband, so I can’t stay here for ever.”

She asks who is this client and Jinx says that he does not know him, but he made contact on Instagram, saying that Connor recommended him.   They are meeting at some house.

"Here – show me the message"

She wants to see the message on his phone, so he hands it over.

"Have you checked with Connor?"

“And you’ve checked that Connor knows this guy?”

"Why would I?"

“Why would I?   It’s some guy called Gilmor Morris.”

"Phone Connor to confirm"

Eleri instructs him to phone Connor to confirm that.

"Connor – did you pass my name to Gilmor Morris?"

“Hiya, Connor, did you pass my name onto a guy called Gilmor Morris?

"You didn't?"

“No?   It’s no problem, just a misunderstanding.”

"Garry – I know where Kyle is!"

Meanwhile, Eleri is making a phone call to Garry;  “I know where Kyle is!”

The Western Post photographer is at work

At the event in Tamed, the photographer is capturing pictures of all and sundry;

Dorian is chatting up Eileen

Dorian is chatting up Eileen, telling her that his favourite is Malbec, especially Argentinian.   She realises that he knows his wines.   “I’m full of surprises, Eileen,” he tells her.

"You should be over there with Eileen "

Cassie maintains that Howard should be over there with Eileen, but he answers, “I’ve got no chance against him – he’s always been a charmer –

"Which you can't say about me"

“which you can’t say about me.”

Eileen begins her self-promotion

Then Eileen begins her speech, “Friends, today is about the community.    Thank you all very much for coming here today – and the Western Post as well – to my little business, Tamed.

"My shop . . . my farm"

“It’s a vital part of the community, alongside my local shop, which sells Cae Glas produce from Penrhewl, my farm.”

They are evidently unimpressed

Mark is obviously becoming fed up with listening to this, but now Eileen changes tack;

"There's someone who does so much for our community . . ."

“But there’s someone who does so much for our community,

". . . Siôn White!"

“so please give a warm welcome to Siôn White.”

"When I started as a councillor . . ."

He begins, “Thank you all very much for coming – when I started as a councillor, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the number of projects and resources the village needed,

". . . a special person came to the rescue . . ."

“but a special person came to the rescue – and if it wasn’t for that person, I wouldn’t be standing here now.”

Of course, Eileen believes that all this adulation is for her, as Siôn invites those present to, “Put your hands together for . . .

". . . Mark Jones!"

“Mark Jones!”

He was not expecting that

This takes Mark completely by surprise

"Come over here, Mark"

and he is invited to stand between Siôn and Eileen, with whom this does not go down well.

“Thank you, Mark, for collecting the rubbish, cleaning up chewing gum – and sorting out the drain by the Deri, also obtaining a grant for a youth centre.

"The credit all goes to Mark Jones!"

“The credit all goes to Mark Jones!”

The photographer steps up

The photographer captures Mark and Siôn, who are all smiles, but Eileen looks exceedingly put out.

"Why not just phone the police?"

Jinx demands why Eleri does not just phone the police,

"The police won's stop a guy like that"

but Garry  maintains, “The police won’t stop a guy like that.”   Jinx cannot understand what difference Garry will make by going to meet him.

“I can threaten to report him for breaching his bail conditions – he could go back to prison for that.”

"I'm coming with you"

Eleri suddenly decides that she will go with Garry, but Jinx points out that her life is in danger as well.   She promises that she will hide in the car and not move.

Jinx suspects that something else is going on;  she replies that if anything happens, she can call the police.

"I don't expect the truth from you"

“That doesn’t answer my question – but I don’t expect the truth from you,” Jinx groans.

"Right, let's have your phone"

Now Garry demands Jinx’s phone, “In case he tries to contact you.”

Jinx hands it over

They leave on their mission.

Dorian is in a bad mood

Dorian, who seems to have had quite a lot to drink, is sitting outside the Deri, then picks up his phone and makes a call,

"Please, Mags, try to understand"

telling the answering machine, “Mags, it’s me again - please phone me – this isn’t fair – I did it for us.   Please, mags, try to understand.”

He tosses down the phone . . .

He tosses the phone down on the table, then moves across to the next one,

. . . then finds the remains of someone else's drink

where some drink has been left at the bottom of a glass, and drinks that as well.

Garry stops the car

Garry’s car stops at the side of the road and he explains,

"I don't want him to see us"

“He’ll be watching out for Jinx – I don’t want him to see us.”   Eleri takes off her seat belt,

"You're not coming with me"

but is strictly instructed by Garry that she is not going with him, but must stay in the car.

“What if something goes wrong?” she demands;  he maintains that is more likely if she is with him.   “All right – I promise I won’t move.”

"Are you sure this is what you want?"

He checks, “Are you sure this is what you want – because what I told Jinx earlier was not a lie.   Kyle probably has breached his bail conditions and there might be a way . . .”

“I’m sure, OK?   Kyle will never stop, no matter where he is.”

"Tell him Jinx is on his way"

Garry instructs her, “Ring Kyle from Jinx’s phone and tell him Jinx is on his way.”   Meanwhile he gets out of the car.

Mark and Siôn are celebrating

Mark and Siôn are celebrating their victory in the Deri, while Eileen growls, “Look at them!”

"You're so ungrateful, Mam"

Sioned tells her mother, “You’re so ungrateful – why did you ask Mark for his help in the first place?”

"I wanted to see what his motivations were"

“To try and keep him close – understand what his motivations were – because nobody goes to such trouble without a reason.”

"That's nonsense!"

Sioned regards that as nonsense, insisting that sometimes people do nice things because they want to.

"What can I get you, ladies?"

Dorian comes swaggering in, offering to buy the ladies a drink.

"Is this your phone?"

Howard follows, having picked up Dorian’s phone from the table, but he demands, “What’s the point if my wife won’t talk to me?”   He drinks his whisky and asks for another one,

"You've had enough"

although Howard is convinced that he has had enough.

"Why won't your wife talk to you"

Eileen wonders, “And exactly what have you done if your wife won’t talk to you?”

"She's busy with the farm"

Howard gives the excuse that she is busy with the farm and everything, so she cannot answer the phone.

"That might not be a bad thing"

“After all that wine and whisky, that might not be a bad thing,” comments Eileen.

Kyle is waiting

Kyle is waiting, inside a white building, which is actually the now redundant West Usk Lighthouse, near Newport.

Closeup of the plaque

The plaque on the wall near the window, shows that it was lit on 1 December 1821.

He is blissfully unaware

He is expecting Jinx to arrive,

"Hands up – now!!"
but what he does not know is that Garry, complete with loaded shotgun, is creeping up stealthily behind him.   “Hands up – now!” he instructs.

"So the lodger's on Eleri's payroll"

Kyle does as he is told, remarking, “So, the lodger is on Eleri’s payroll – what a surprise.”

"Hands on the wall"

He is told to put his hands on the wall, then to slowly empty his pockets.

"It's less messy"

Out of the left pocket he produces a length of rope, which he says is less messy.

"You were really going to kill Jinx?"

“You were really going to kill Jinx?” Garry demands;

"Why do you care about Jinx?"

Kyle cannot understand why he cares about Jinx.

“I don’t – what worries me is the fact that you broke into Brynawelon.”

“And the fact that Eleri wants you to kill me – doesn’t that worry you?” Kyle enquires.

"What were you looking for at Brynawelon?"

Garry wants to know what he was looking for at Brynawelon

"Evidence – I don't trust her"

and is told, “Evidence – I don’t trust her – you shouldn’t, either.”

Eleri is out of the car . . .

Eleri is now out of the car

. . . and looking at photos

and is looking at photos of herself and Jinx on that rather scratched phone.

"A woman is so scared of you"

Garry continues, “You’re proud of that, are you?   That a woman is so scared of you that she’s willing to pay someone to kill you?”

"She's afraid of the evidence"

“She’s afraid of the evidence I have against her – enough to send her to jail for life.”

"You don't get a sentence like that here"

Garry maintains that no-one gets a sentence like that in this country, but is told that it is different in the US.

"Money laundering, racketeering"

“Money laundering, racketeering – she was the brains behind it all, not me.

"You think she'd so all this for 'the artist'?"

“Do you really think she’d do all this for ‘the artist’?   Can’t you see that there are higher stakes?”

“Exactly – and that’s why I’m here,” replies Garry,

"You threatened my family – nobody does that!"

“You threatened my family – and nobody does that!”

"They were just words"

Kyle points out that they were just words, but this makes no difference to Garry, who says he cannot take the risk.

The end of Kyle appears to have  arrived

He raises the shotgun and points it directly at Kyle.

A shot rings out

Eleri, still by the car, hears a loud gunshot and realises what has happened.

"Mark is so unselfish"

In the Deri, Siôn is telling Eileen, “Mark is so unselfish – he deserved that recognition, don’t you think?”

"Come over here"

She has had enough of this so agrees to apologise to Mark and calls him over.

"Thank you for doing everything you do"

“Thank you for your work today and thank you for doing everything you do for Siôn – I really appreciate it.   Come over tomorrow and I’ll have something for you.”   Mark responds that there is no need for that,

"Accept the gift and accept the compliment"

but she is insistent, “Accept the gift and accept the compliment – or I’ll start to doubt you again.”

Something is thrown at Mark . . .

Then something is thrown across the room at Mark;

. . . and narrowly misses Sioned on the way back
discovers that it is Dorian’s shirt, so he throws it back.

Eleri approaches the (light) house

Eleri walks towards the imposing building with some trepidation,

"You've done it?"

but Garry approaches her from behind.   “You’ve done it?” she asks, “Did he say anything?”

"I need to go back and clean up"

Garry shakes his head, so she asks if he is OK;  he maintains that he will be fine, but now he needs to go and clear up
How is he going to get back to Cwmderi without the car

“Go back to Cwmderi, lock the car and leave the gun in the boot –

"Whatever you do, don't tell Jinx"

“and whatever you do, don’t tell Jinx!”   Eleri is looking extremely confused, then goes back to the car.

Jinx waits anxiously

Later, Jinx is sitting disconsolately in the MFC flat and is surprised when she walks in,

"It's over!"

advising that it is over.   “Is everything all right?” Jinx asks, “You and Garry?”

She returns his phone

She rather hesitantly tells him that it is and hands back his phone.

“You’re going to be safe now, that’s what’s important,” she assures him,

"Will you be safe?"

but he is worried about whether she will be safe.   She thinks that she will be.

“So what did the trick with Kyle?” he wants to know.

"I'm not sure – Garry spoke to him"

“I’m not sure, because Garry spoke to him – but the important thing is that he’s out of our lives.”

"You're not sure what happened?"

Jinx is perplexed;  “After everything that’s happened, you’re not sure why or how everything was sorted?”

"You'd better ask Garry"

She explains that she was not there and that he should ask Garry,

"I'm not asking Garry"

but he is determined that he is not asking Garry.

"The father I am away from him – and you – the better!"

“The further away I am from him – and you – the better!”

He walks out of the flat

He gets up and walks out of the flat.
