Rhys is having a sandwich

Rhys is eating a sandwich and crunching on some crisps while looking at his phone;  he hears the door open and Kelly comes in, looking very tired.

He gives Kelly a hug

He gives her a hug.

She says that she cannot stay, but will have to go back to the hospital.

"You've been there all night"

Rhys protests that she has been there all night and that she needs a break.   “There’s nothing else you can do while Anita’s having more tests.”

"Do you mind if I have a shower"

“Do you mind if I have a shower here?   My stuff is still here,” she enquires;

"Stay as long you like"

he replies that she is welcome to stay as long as she wants, then asks if Ieuan is all right.

"I was a bit harsh on him, wasn't I?"

Kelly acknowledges, “I was a bit harsh on him, wasn’t I?   He hasn’t done anything wrong – he was just out for a few drinks –

"Shower – and a nap"

“anyway, shower – and a nap.”   She goes upstairs,

Rhys knows more than he is saying

while Reese is very concerned about Ieuan’s behaviour.

"Hiya, Auntie Britt"

Gwern arrives at the MFC flat, carrying some cleaning materials;  Britt is pleased to see him.

"Is someone else here?"

When he sees a second cup of tea on the table, he wonders who else is there,

"I automatically made one for Colin"

but she realises that she automatically made one for Colin, which he can have if he wants it.

Gwern can see that she is missing Colin.   “A little bit, perhaps,” she admits

"Dani asked me to drop them off"

and he says that Dani asked him to drop off the cleaning materials for her.

"It helps me clear my head"

“Clearing things with my hands helps me to clear my head, you see,” she explains.

"Dani told you, did she?"

“Dani told you, did she?” Britt goes on, so he replies that she did not,

"No, Dad did"

but his father did.

“Do you think I’m like him?   He hurts people, doesn’t he?”   Britt is forced to agree with that,

"I don't want to hurt people like he does"

so he continues, “And I don’t want to hurt people like he does.”

"You show him how to be a man!"

Britt encourages him to show Garry how to be a man.

This time Rhys knocks on the door . . .

Rhys is knocking on the door of number 7 and this time there is a quick reply;

. . . and it is opened

“We need to talk,” he tells Ieuan, “I don’t need to know the ins and outs about you and Cassie,

"You should be careful"

“but I just think you should be careful.”

"You spent the night there"

Ieuan does not know what he is on about;  “You spent the night there!”

"I fell asleep on the sofa"

Ieuan’s response is that he was on the sofa;  he fell asleep after he had been hurt and then had been drinking whisky.

"People talk – like Kath Jones"

“Whatever happened, it doesn’t look great, does it?   People talk – people like Kath Jones.”

"She told you that?"

Uncle Ieuan cannot believe that she told Rhys that he had been with Cassie.

"I'm trying to protect Kelly"

“I’m trying to protect Kelly– it’s not just you who’s suffering,” he says, so Ieuan is about to leave.

"Just sort it out with Kath, please"

“Whoa – you know what Kelly’s like – she’s hardly slept.   Just sort it out with Kath, please.”

"The exhibition has been cancelled"

Eleri is at the deli and has just informed Eileen that Jinx’s exhibition has been cancelled;  “I’ve already given the order for the canapés to the suppliers!” Eileen moans.

“Well, cancel it, then,” says Eleri, so Eileen wants to know where Jinx  has gone.

"You'll have to contact Huw Jenkins directly"

“If you want to know that, you’ll have to contact Huw Jenkins directly.”

“Oh, it’s like that, is it?” demands Eileen, to which Eleri replies that a lot of men cannot handle a strong woman.

She adds, “If it’s any comfort, I’ve lost money as well – I paid for the gallery!”

"You could hold the night anyway"

Eileen suggests that she should hold the night anyway, as the art is already done, but Eleri is determined to cancel it.

The key to number 9 causes her to change her mind

Then she takes from her handbag a key, which gives her an idea.

"I heard that your father's ill"

Rhys walks along the street and encounters Gwern;  “Are you all right, boy?   I heard that your father’s ill.”

"Especially when he refuses to have treatment"

“Yeah – you and everyone else – he’ll love that,” Gwern groans.   Rhys appreciates that it is hard.   “Yes, especially when the person refuses to have treatment.”   Rhys offers if there is anything he needs, he only has to mention it.

"Actually, can I ask you something?"

“Actually, can I ask you something?” says Gwern.

Eleri is at number 9 . . .

The key in Eleri’s bag is for number 9;  she has let herself in and is looking at Jinx’s pictures stacked up against the wall.

. . . casting her eye over the paintings . . .

She opens a book containing some of his pictures

. . . and having second thoughts

and looks very pleased with herself.

"We have to talk, Cassie"

Ieuan marches into the Deri, demanding to talk to Cassie;  she asks how Anita is and he replies that she is still poorly,

"Kath said that we spent the night together!"

“But we’ve got another problem now– Kath gave Rhys the impression that the two of us had . . . spent the night together!

"I don't want Kelly to think . . ."

“I don’t want Kelly or anyone else to think something happened – no offence.”

"Don't worry – I'll have a word with Kath"

“Don’t worry about Kath – I’ll have a word with her, all right?” Cassie assures him.

New development in Cwmderi

In a location which we have never seen before, immediately opposite the war memorial, but which now appears to be behind Tomos ac Ellis,

"Trolling?   Why, mate?"

Rhys and Gwern are sitting in a small garden area.   “Trolling, Gwern?” asks Rhys, “Why, mate?”

"This girl sort of rejected me"

“This girl, basically, she sort of rejected me.”

"Girls have the right to reject you"

Rhys suggests that he wanted to hurt her.   He knows that it is disappointing, but points out that girls have the right to reject you.

Gwern has a feeling of guilt, but does not know if he should tell the girl that it was him.  “At the end of the day, you’ve done the right thing by stopping,” he is advised,

"Do you need to upset her more?"

“She’s probably upset about the trolling, but do you need to upset her more by saying it was you?”

Gwern is not sure about that, but feels extremely guilty.

"You can't afford to lose friends"

Rhys tells him, “You can’t afford to lose friends at the minute, can you?   You’ve got a lot going on.”

"The exhibition's back on!"

Now Eleri strides back into the deli to inform Eileen that the exhibition is back on, so she should not cancel the order.

"Phone them back, then"

When Eileen grumbles that she has just phoned them, she is instructed, “Phone them back, then.”

“That’s not going to make my business look good, is it?” is Eileen's rejoinder.   Eleri suggests that it will, once the newspaper does a review of the night.

"They might give Tamed some publicity"

“They might give Tamed some publicity instead of Mark Jones!” Eleri adds.   Eileen wants to know if she talked to Jinx in the end;  “Yes,” Eleri lies,

Eleri chooses some cheeses

“While I’m here can I have the Brie, Stilton and Gouda?”

"Sorry – I love your make-up"

Lleucu comes in and looks enviously at Eleri’s make-up;  “Sorry, I love your make-up – how did you get it like that?”   Eleri explains that it is the only brand she trusts –

"It's not cheap, but neither am I"

and it is not cheap – but, then, neither is she.   She describes it as like Botox in a box.

Lleucu wants to see it

She shows it to Lleucu.

"You're not the problem"

Gwern comes in and Eleri asks how he is;  “Your father isn’t too happy with me.”   Gwern points out that she is not the problem;

"But he has got cancer at the end of the day"

“But he has got cancer at the end of the day!” she goes on,

This is news to Eileen

which comes as a news both to Eileen and Lleucu.

"Your father's got cancer?"

“What?   Your father has cancer?” Lleucu gasps,

"Whoops – I've done it again!"

while Eleri realises that she has put her foot in it again.

"It will save you having to talk to Eileen"

“What do you want?   I’m paying – it will save you having to talk to Eileen,” Gwern tells Lleucu,

That did not go down well

which Eileen did not like.

"Right, I've come to make things clear"

Cassie has gone to number 21 to see Rhys;  “Right, I’ve come here to make things clear.”

"Nothing happened between Ieuan and me!"

Before Rhys can say anything, she continues, “Hang on, now – listen – nothing has happened between Ieuan and me – no matter what Kath suggested!   He was in a hell of a state, next thing he was asleep on my sofa – that’s it.”

"Kelly might hear something"

Rhys appears to accept that, but he is just worried that people will think otherwise;  “Kelly might hear something.”

"He needed a friend"

Cassie insists that she was a friend and that is what Ieuan needed;  “You youngsters don’t realise how lonely people can get.”

Rhys appreciates that Ieuan is struggling;  “Yes, terribly – and he doesn’t want to trouble you or Kelly – your father has no sensible solution apart from taking him to the Deri for a whisky.”

Kelly is on the stairs . . .

Kelly has just come downstairs and pauses at the bottom, behind the new curtains, listening, as Cassie continues, “Comfort, that’s what Ieuan wanted – company –

. . . listening to this

“and that’s why he was with me that night, to be close to someone.   Surely you can understand that!”

Britt is at the cemetery

In the cemetery, Britt is sitting by a grave;  that of her brother Brandon.

"I'm losing everyone – and Colin isn't here . . ."

“I’m so angry with him, Brandon – I don’t know what to do – I’m losing everyone – and Colin isn’t here.

". . . so I have to talk to someone"

“So I have to talk to someone, don’t I?   And, fair play, you’re always there for me.   Right, come on.”

She has brought soapy water . . .

She dips a cloth into the hot soapy water

. . . to clean the gravestone

and begins to clean up the gravestone.

"But nothing happened!"

Kelly and Rhys confront Ieuan, who again insists that nothing happened.

"I was phoning you all night!"

She rages,  “I was phoning you all night – I was sitting there on my own, worried sick about Auntie Neet – and thinking something awful had happened to you as well!   All the while you were with Cassie!”

"That's not what happened"

He tries to protest that is not what happened, but Kelly squeals, “You were with another woman!”

He points out that talking was all they were doing;  “Just talking – and then I fell asleep by accident.”

"So what were you talking about?"

“OK,” says Kelly, “So what were you talking about all night?”

"Anything – the guilt . . ."

He replies that it was about everything – anything.   The weather, the guilt of seeing her in that home,

". . . that I'm so lonely"

“And the fact that I’m so lonely without her, every day and every night – and that I have to accept now that this is my life.”

"It's Auntie Neet who's suffering"

Kelly reminds him that it is Auntie Neet who is suffering,

"And you're suffering, too"

but Rhys adds that she is suffering too;  “We don’t come here often enough, do we?”

"Not worry about some old man like me"

Ieuan points out that they are young and are supposed to enjoy life;  “Not worry about some old man like me.”

"I'm just so lonely without her"

He dissolves into tears, sobbing, “I’m just so lonely without her.”

"Remember I'm here for you"

In the Deli, Lleucu tells Gwern, “We don’t have to talk about your father if you don’t want to – but remember that I’m here for you.

"They deleted their account this morning"

“You’ve been so good to me with all this trolling business – until they deleted their account this morning.”

"At least, that's something"

He comments that at least that is something,

"But it's weird . . ."

but Lleucu regards it as weird;

"It's not like I've stopped being minging, is it?"

“Why stop?   It’s not like I’ve stopped being minging, is it?”

"Order confirmed"

Then she has a notification that her order has been confirmed,

"This make-up brand"

“For that stuff Eleri had earlier – this make-up brand – look.”

"That cost a fortune!"

Gwern is outraged;  “Lleucu, that costs a fortune!”

"I've got a credit card"

She replies that she has a credit card, so it is fine and is convinced that it is worth it, but he protests that the price is ridiculous, “And you don’t need anything . . .

"I'm sorry for making you feel like that"

“and I’m sorry for making you feel like that.”

"What?"

Lleucu is puzzled;

"It was me – I'm sorry, Lleucs!"

he confesses, “It was me – it was me, trolling you.   I’m sorry, Lleucs, OK?   I didn’t mean to . . .”

She makes a hasty exit . . .

She picks up her bag and rushes out of the deli,

. . . and Gwern is distraught

leaving him distraught

Hywel's kitchen has had a makeover

In another unfamiliar place, which turns out to Hywel’s refurbished kitchen at number 21, Kelly receives a phone call from the hospital;  “OK, what does that mean?”

"Thanks, Doc – that's brilliant!"{

Then she sighs with great relief, “Thanks, Doc – that’s brilliant!”

Rhys comes downstairs . . .

Rhys comes downstairs

. . . and is given the good news

and she announces that there is no sepsis and that Anita is responding to the amoxicillin.

He hugs Kelly

He gives her a hug, but she does not respond.

"I'm going home tonight"

Instead, she tells him that she is going home tonight, on her own.

“You knew that Ieuan had stayed with Cassie – and you didn’t think to tell me.”

"I didn't want you to worry about that"

He replies that he did not want her to have to worry about that as well as everything else – and it turned out to be nothing.

"We're supposed to be honest with each other other, like"

“That’s not the point, Rhys – we’re supposed to be honest with each other, like,”

"You do react a bit OTT sometimes"

but he points out that she does react a bit OTT sometimes.

"OTT, right!"

“OTT, right!” she snarls.   He argues that there was no point upsetting her until he knew what was going on.

"I had a right to know!

However, she insists, “It wasn’t your call to make – I had a right to know.”

He responds, “Fine – sorry for just trying to help.”

"I'm going to get my toothbrush"

She picks up her phone and is going upstairs to fetch her toothbrush.

Someone comes into the churchyard

In the cemetery, the flowers Britt has brought are now in a vase;

"Look after  Gloria and Seren for me"

she declares that it looks much better, but in the distance we can see someone is coming into the churchyard.   She tells Brandon, “Look after Gloria and Seren for me – see you later – I won’t leave it so long next time.”

Then she has a surprise . . .

Then she notices with surprise

. . . because Colin is approaching

that Colin is approaching;

"I thought you might be here"

“I thought you might be here,” he tells her, “Well, to be honest, Dani told me.”

Britt is overjoyed

Britt is overjoyed to see him back.

Kelly has a message from Diane

Much later, on the sofa at number 7 in the darkness, Kelly receives a message alert on her phone;

"Auntie Neet is OK"

it is from Diane, reporting that Auntie Neet is OK.

"Shall we see her in the morning?"

“There we are – shall we let her sleep and go and see her first thing tomorrow?”

Ieuan agrees that they should do that;

"I'm knackered!"

now Kelly is knackered and will go up to bed.   He wishes her good night.

He open the laptop . . .

As soon as she has gone, Ieuan picks up the laptop;

. . . .discovers a message from Janet . . .

immediately he opens it, he sees that there is a new message from Janet,

. . . then closes it again

but after a few moments’ deliberation, he closes the laptop again.

Eleri drops a piece of cheese . . .

At Cysgod y Glyn, Eleri is putting pieces of the cheese from the deli on crackers, when one piece accidentally falls on to the floor.

As she picks it up . . .

She reaches down to retrieve it

. . . she finds Garry's not very secure hiding place

and notices, under the sofa, a shotgun,

Not what you expect to see under your sofa

which she finds rather disconcerting.
