The shotgun is now on the table

The shotgun is lying on the table in Cysgod y Glyn when Garry returns;  Eleri demands, “What’s this?”

"It looks like a gun to me"

“It looks like a gun to me,” he replies.   She wants to know what it is doing there, as he said he has sorted everything.

"If the police find Kyle's body . . ."

“If the police find Kyle’s body, they will come here first as I’m his wife.”

"If I go down, I'll drag you down with me"

Garry regards it as insurance, informing her that if he goes down, he will drag her down with him.

Colin is suffering from jetlag

At the MFC flat, Colin is still in his pyjamas, lounging on the sofa;  Britt brings him a cup of tea

Britt is glad that he is home

and tells him how glad she is that he is back.   “Lois didn’t mind, did she?”

"There are still three months to go"

He points out that there are still three months before the baby arrives and Gaynor is there in any case.   Britt suggests that perhaps she could go with him next time, which he welcomes.

"Perhaps Garry will have seen sense by then"

“Perhaps Garry will have seen sense by then,” she sighs.

“Miracles are possible, I suppose,” replies Colin and can see that she is very upset.

"I didn't want you to suffer on your own"

“It’s all right – I’m here now – I booked a flight home the minute Dani phoned – I didn’t want you to suffer on your own.”

“Do you know what?   It just doesn’t make sense, after everything we’ve lost.   Gwern thinks he just wants attention,” says Britt;

Colin is inclined to agree

Colin thinks that he might agree with that.   “When Gwern was here yesterday it broke my heart because it was obvious

"He was ashamed of his father"

“he was ashamed of his father, you know – and for once I couldn’t argue with him, Col.”

"I hope you hid the body better than the gun"

Eleri comments, “I hope you hid the body better than you hid the gun – I paid you!”   He assures her that she does not have to worry about that,

"What's stopping you from paying someone else to kill me?"

but wonders what is stopping her from paying someone else to kill him – to hide the secret.

"You’re dying anyway,” she sneers,

"Is that what all these is about?"

“Is that what this is all about?   Because I didn’t keep your secret.”

"You hurt my family"

He snarls that she has hurt his family, but she disagrees;

"Did you really think they wouldn't find out?"

“No – you’ve hurt them – did you really think they wouldn’t find out you’ve got cancer?”

"Like what you did in New York"

“Like you thought I’d never find out what you did in New York?” he answers, “You’d be amazed what someone is willing to say when you point a gun at them –

"Kyle said a lot"

“and Kyle said a lot.   About you, the laundering, how he went to prison to protect you – fair play to him.

"I don't trust you, Eleri"

Garry gets up from his stool and growls, “I don’t trust you, Eleri – from now on we’re doing things on my terms.”

He takes a files from a drawer

He takes a file from a drawer and puts it in front of her;

"A bit of homework"

“A bit of homework – so that we can start trusting each other again – enjoy!”

She begins to study it

She takes a look at the papers contained therein.

Indeg has taken delivery of a box . . .

Indeg has just received a delivery from a driver;  it is a very large box,

. . . for Lleucu

addressed to Lleucu Rossiter, which she puts down on the table.

"Again!"

“Again!” she mutters.

Gwern is window cleaning

Gwern is cleaning the windows of the pizza shop when he receives a message on his phone;

He seems his father approaching

then he can see, reflected in the window, that Garry is approaching.

"No customers today, then?"

“All right?” says his father, “No customers today, then?   Do you think you need to market the place better?”

"Don't you worry about that"

Gwern laughs that he does not need to worry about that,

"If you don't start appreciating . . ."

but his father continues, “As owner of the place, it would be nice to see a bit of business here, don’t you think?   If you don’t start appreciating . . .”

"Here we go again!"

“Oh, here we go again – me, me, me,” groans Gwern.

"Well, well – there he is"

As Garry is about to reply, Colin comes along the road; “Well, well, there he is – hiya, Gwern –

"Garry, come to the Deri with me!"

“Garry, come to the Deri with me!”

"It's a bit early for a pint"

Garry quips that it is a bit early for a pint,

"Now!"

but Colin adds sternly, “Now!” and walks away.

"Off you go, then"

“Off you go, then!” Gwern instructs his father.

Siwsi comes back

Indeg is still wrestling with the temptation to open the box when Siwsi  comes in;

"Another one?"

“Another one for Lleucs?”   Indeg really wants to open it,

"Of course I'm not going to"

but maintains that of course she is not going to.   “There have been a couple of these now, haven’t there?”

Indeg proposes that she could say she opened it by mistake and Siwsi has to go upstairs for a nap,

"Don't touch this box, OK?"

but begs Indeg, “Whatever you do, don’t touch this box, OK?”

Easier said than done

However, Indeg seems to be finding the challenge rather daunting.

"You're back early from Thailand"

In the Deri, Colin brings Garry a pint;  “You’re back early from Thailand,” Garry observes.

"Yes – and you know exactly why`'

“Yes – and you know exactly why, as well.   I left Lois to come back here to deal with your nonsense – and to be there for Britt because she needs me.   That’s what you do for the people you love.”

"Britt and Gwern don't seem too concerned"

Garry maintains that neither Britt or his son seem to be too concerned about him, but he is told, “Leave it out, Gar!   You’re hurting them, again.”

Garry insists that was not his intention, but he does not expect Colin to understand.

"I've lost a child as well, remember"

“I’ve lost a child as well, if you remember,” Colin reminds   him, “The last thing I’d want to do is to put Gaynor and Lois through that again – and make Izzy’s death all about me – instead of being there to support them –

"Aren't you ashamed of yourself?"

“aren’t you ashamed of yourself?”

"How did you get through it?"

Garry asks him how he got through it, losing a daughter.

"I haven't got through it . . ."

After a moment’s thought, Colin replies, “I haven’t got through it –

". . . you have to learn to live with the pain"

“you just have to learn to live with the pain – and support everyone around you who is suffering.

"I've said what I wanted to say"

“Right, that’s it, I’ve said what I wanted to say.”

Colin has not touched his pint

He gets up and walks away, leaving his pint untouched.

Lleucu approaches Gwern

As Gwern sits outside the pizza place, Lleucu approaches;  his message was obviously from her

"Thanks for coming"

and he thanks her for coming.

They both remain silent

Initially, neither of them says anything.

Eleri is sitting in her office

Eleri is sitting in her office at Brynawelon,

"What did you learn?"

when Garry walks in, closing the door behind him.   “What did you learn?” he asks.

"Brynawelon has received several payments . . .`'

“That Brynawelon has received several payments from Parker and Howie solicitors.”   He enquires where the money came from in the first place.

". . . from the wills of residents"

“From the wills of people who have been living here – you’ve got them to leave their money to the home,” she replies

"You worked it out"

and he congratulates her on working it out.   “Is that the plan – the one Kyle suspected you had?”

"Just like in America, you're going to be part of it"

Garry continues, “And just like in America, you’re going to be a part of it.”

"Are you going to say something?"

As they walk away from The Pizza Place, Lleucu asks if Gwern is going to say something;  she realises that it is a bit awkward.

"I don't know why I did it"

“Yeah – I don’t know why I did it,” he admits.

Lleucu is surprised that is all he has to say and, sarcastically, regards it as a big help,
"I didn't like the fact you were with Ows"

but he stops her there, confessing, “I didn’t like the fact you were with Ows, OK?
"I was jealous"

I was jealous.”   She walks away and he follows.
This was inevitable

As expected, Indeg has succumbed to the temptation and is looking at the multiple items in the box.

"Inds!"

When Siwsi comes downstairs, she shouts, “Inds!”

“I know, I know – but I just had to find out,” she replies.   Siwsi tells her that she needs a job as she has too much time on her hands.

"Some of this is very expensive . . ."

They look at the myriad items, some of which Indeg recognises as being very expensive.

“This order must have cost a fortune, gasps Siwsi;

". . . easily over £300"

Indeg imagines that it is easily over £300.

"Do you think the started over the trolling?"

“Do you think this started over the trolling?” Siwsi wonders, but they do not know how she can afford all this.

It looks like credit cards

The accompanying invoice suggests that she is using credit cards.

"Why would you be jealous?"

Meanwhile Gwern and Lleucu are sitting in the area introduced yesterday;  “But you rejected me – why would you be jealous?” she asks.

"I was just so confused"

Gwern tries to explain that he was just confused;  “You got so angry and, I don’t know –

"Perhaps I would have liked to be your first time"

“perhaps I would have liked to be your first time.”

She points out that he does not own her;

"So this was revenge?"

“So this was revenge because I slept with Ows?”   He concedes that is possibly true.  “So you still like me, then?”

"Of course I do, Lleucu"

He seems quite emphatic about that,

"You've been calling me 'minging' for weeks`'

but she points out that he has been calling her ‘minging’ for weeks.

He insists that he did not mean it.   “Well, perhaps I am all of those things – ugly, disgusting, ‘minging’.”

"You're not, Lleucu!"

He makes it very clear that she is not

"I'm pathetic!"

and describes himself as pathetic, which Lleucu wholeheartedly agrees with.

"I can sleep with whoever I like!"

“We finished ages ago – and I can sleep with whoever I like!”

She hurries away

She gets up and walks away.

"This is completely immoral"

As she continues to look through the paperwork, Eleri describes it as completely immoral.

"Just like asking someone to kill your husband"

Garry agrees with this evaluation, “Just like asking someone to kill your husband.”

"That was different"

However, she regards that as different;  Garry makes it clear that he only targets people who do not have a family.

"Where does the money go?   To the government"

“Where else does the money go then?   The government.

"What's my part in this?"

She can see that he has been doing this for ages and wants to know what is her part in doing all this.

"The first step was collecting the money"

He explains, “The first step was collecting the money.   The next step is knowing where to put it – I’ve got MFC, The Pizza Place, this place, Bethania before long, probably.”

"A laundering system"

She realises that he wants to create a laundering system;  “You’re an expert, according to your husband – sorry, ex-husband,” he answers.

She reminds him that it almost ruined her life last time,

"You ought to be glad you're doing it with me"

so he maintains she ought to be glad that she is doing it with him this time.   “I’m going for a drink in the Deri – think about it.”

They go into Lleucu's room

Indeg and Siwsi go upstairs to Lleucu’s room, where more of the expensive cosmetics are spread across the bed.

"This is a bit intrusive"

Siwsi regards it as a bit intrusive, but Indeg insists that the more they know,

"The more we can help Lleucu"

the more they can help Lleucu.

There is another invoice which Indeg can see it for more than £1,000,

"She's got to be using credit cards"

so they reach the conclusion that she must be using credit cards.

"How are you, Gwern?"

Colin brings Gwern a drink in the Deri, apparently cider this time, and asks how he is;

"I won't say a word to Britt"

“There’s no shame in saying – and I won’t say a word to Britt.”

"Lleucu and I have fallen out"

It’s just Lleucu and I have fallen out – I thought that perhaps I had another chance with her, but I’ve messed everything up, because I didn’t deal with it properly – I dealt with the way Dad would have.”

"You're a very different person to your father"

Colin advises that he is a very different person to his father;

"I know Britt keeps going on"

“I know Britt likes going on and on about you Monks, but you shouldn’t feel tied to that.”   Gwern thinks that he is right about that.

Colin goes on, “Heartbreak is difficult, especially the first time.

"My heart's like a mosaic"

“My heart’s been broken so many times, it’s like a mosaic now.   But there we are, that’s life, we have to learn to pick up the pieces.”

"I would have liked have a Dad like you"

“Do you know what, Col?   I think I would have liked to have a Dad like you.”

Garry has been doing some eavesdropping

A few inches away, behind the screen, Garry gets up from his seat and walks out of the pub,

Colin and Gwern watch him go

as Colin and Gwern watch.

Lleucu is apologising . . .

Lleucu arrives home at Y Felin in apologetic mood;  “Indeg, I want to say sorry for accusing you of trolling – I know you’d never . . .”

. . . until she notices the box

but then she notices the box on the table which has obviously been opened.

Indeg maintains she opened it by mistake,

"You had no right!"

but it is pointed out that Lleucu’s name is quite clearly there.   “You had no right!”

"That stuff is a scam . . ."

Indeg is glad that she did, insisting that the stuff is a scam;

". . . they don't work"

“Those nose-shaping things and de-bloating things – they don’t work.”

"Credit card debt is not a good habit to get into"

Siwsi takes over;  “Remember why I had to sleep in my car for ages?   Credit card debt is not a good habit to get into.”

"It's not a habit"

Lleucu does not regard it as a habit, but Indeg maintains, “The amount of deliveries in your room is ridiculous.”

Lleucu is outraged that they have been into her room, but they insist that is only because they are worried about her.

"I'm an adult – I can do what I like!"

“It’s none of your business – I’m an adult – I can do what I like!” shouts Lleucu.

"You don't need all this stuff"

It is emphasised that she does not need all this stuff and that the troll was wrong,

"Just leave me alone!"

but Lleucu still wants to be left alone

An unusual view, down the stairs

and rushes off upstairs.

"I was just on my way over to the Deri"

When Garry returns to Cysgod y Glyn, Eleri says that she was just on her way over to the Deri.   He appears to be a rather subdued mood, so she asks if he is feeling all right.

"So what do you say, then?"

“So what do you say, then?   About the laundering?”

"I'm happy to help"

She answers that she is happy to help

"You didn't have much choice"

and he points out that she did not have much choice.

"For a third of the money"

Then she adds, “For a third of the money.”

"No chance of that"

Garry chuckles and refuses this, so she insists she will not do it.

"You'll do what I tell you to do!"

He becomes belligerent, snarling at her, “You’ll do what I tell you to do!”

"I've done the sums . . ."

She enlightens him that she has done her homework very thoroughly, and has done the sums.

". . . I know you've got extra cash coming in"

“I know you’ve got extra cash coming in as well.   I won’t ask too many questions about that money if I get what I want.”

"I'm the one taking all the risks"

He offers a quarter;  “I’m the one taking all the risks – and you’re in no position to refuse.”

"I'm not frightened of you"

Eleri refuses to be cowed, insisting that they are doing it on her terms as well and she is not frightened of him.

“I’m not frightened of going to prison, not any more.

"Do you really want to spend your final days behind bars?"

“If you refuse the treatment, do you really want to spend your final days behind bars?”

Garry revises his offer;  “A quarter of what’s there now – and a third of what’s to come.”

"Deal!"

“Deal,” she tells him and he says that he is looking forward to working with her;

As they shake hands . . .

“Not half as much as me,” she remarks.

. . . Garry grabs her in a vice-like grip

But as they shake hands, he forcibly grabs her and warns, “Don’t think the tricks you used on Kyle are going to work on me –

"I can make your life hell – remember that!"

“I can make your life hell – remember that!”
