Anita is aware something is going on
As Anita sits at the kitchen table in number 7, Ieuan and Kelly are talking; “I’m dreading today,” says Kelly, as is Ieuan.
"I feel like we're losing Auntie Neet for ever, like"
“I just feel like we’re losing Auntie Neet for ever, like,” but he disagrees with this.
"She won't be moving back in"
“Well, she’s moving out and she won’t be moving back in,” Kelly goes on.
"We can still visit her"
He points out that they can still visit her – regularly, once the first two weeks are over, but she protests that is not the same.
"We should do something normal"
Kelly feels that they should do something, like go for a walk, have a coffee in Tamed – just a bit of normality.
"There's n point in delaying it . . ."
Ieuan stresses that there is no point in delaying it; they know that it is going to be difficult,
". . . the sooner, the better"
so the sooner the better they do it.
"Typical you, isn't it?"
As Dani is packing away her cleaning materials at the Deri, she is complaining on the phone, “This is just typical you, isn’t it? Eileen, don’t bother, OK?” Then she informs Cassie that Eileen has cancelled all her cleaning shifts.
"A lot of people would be happy"
“Well, lots of people would be happy not to have to work with her,” Cassie observes,
"I've got a lot on at the moment"
but Dani groans, “I know, but I’ve got a lot on at the moment – and now this!”
She jumps at the chance of some bar work
She is offered a few shifts behind the bar, as Cassie appreciates her even if Eileen does not. However, this offer comes with the proviso that Cassie needs help now, this morning.
"I suppose you pay well?"
Dani jumps at the chance and is told that they will discuss the pay later.

Cassie is under surveillance
On her way out of the pub, Cassie tidies up the chairs outside. Someone can be seen watching her from across the road.
"Something else we can't afford . . ."
Mathew comes into the farmhouse, advising Sioned that the vet is there; “Great – something else we can’t afford!” she growls,
". . . it's just one thing after another!"
“It’s just one thing after another!”
"We'll get through this together"
Mathew takes her hand and tries to assure her that they will get through this together, but now he has to get back to Howard in the shed.
"You know that I love you, don't you?"
Sioned wants them to talk; “You know that I love you, don’t you?
"When you asked me to marry you . . ."
“When you asked me to marry you . . .”
She is interrupted in mid-sentence
However, she is interrupted by a knock at the door and Mathew’s mother arrives, congratulating the happy couple. She says that it is not every day her only son gets engaged.
"I'll put the kettle on"
Sioned will put the kettle on for a cup of tea.
Anita is helped out of the front door by Kelly and into the car, just as Cassie is coming along the road; she had not realised that it was today and appreciate that it is difficult for Kelly.
"It's impossible, really"
“Yes, impossible, really – it’s all happening too quickly.”
"I've left the paperwork upstairs"
Ieuan has left all the paperwork upstairs and rushes back inside to get it.
Anita says she is not ready
Kelly gets into the driving seat and asks Anita if she is ready. “No,” she replies.
"No – neither am I"
“Neither am I,” decides Kelly,
Kelly drives off . . .
starts the car and drives away.
. . . which angers Ieuan
Ieuan comes back out of the house to see the car disappearing in the distance and cannot understand what is going on.
The vet is leaving Penrhewl
At Penrhewl, Mathew assures the vet that they will pay immediately they get the invoice.
"That lamb was huge!"
He tells his mother that the lamb was huge and that Howard is looking after it and the mother now.
"Did you ever imagine yourself running a farm?"
“Did you ever imagine yourself running a farm one day?” his mother asks.
"We've had a pretty bad season"
He admits that he does enjoy it, even though they have had a pretty bad lambing season, so he is glad that it is almost over.
His mother can sense that something is wrong; “When I arrived earlier, you didn't seem too happy.”
"We were up all night"
He explains that they were up all night because of the lambing. Sioned was trying to tell him something.
"Are you sure you want me here?"
“Are you sure you want me here?” Melfa continues,
"We agreed to talk to each other"
but Mathew reminds her that they agreed at Christmas time that they need to make an effort and talk to each other. “So what’s Sioned worried about, then?” she demands.
"Is it the lack of a ring?"
Mathew does not know the answer to that, but it is suggested to him that it may have something to do with the lack of a ring on her finger. “Like I told you, Mam, I haven’t had time – and do you really think that Sioned would want to spend money on a ring when all this is going on?”
She announces that luckily for him, she has a present in the car, which puzzles him.
"Zebra!"
Kelly has taken Anita out into the country somewhere and Anita gasps, “Zebra!”
"Must have escaped from Penrhewl"
Kelly says that it must have has escaped from Penrhewl.
“There were definitely no zebras up here when you brought me here for the first time – do you remember? Just after I made the big move to Cwmderi – you made a picnic with Battenbergs.”
"And sausage rolls!"
“And sausage rolls,” adds Anita.
"You've been there through all the ups and down"
“I’m so lucky, Auntie Neet, that I came to live with you and had you in my life, because you’ve been there through all the ups and downs – and thinking about not having you in my life . . .”
Anita grasps Kelly's hand
Anita holds her hand
"I'm always here for you"
and assures her, “I’m always here for you.”
"And I'm here for you as well . . ."
Likewise, Kelly promises that she is always here for Anita as well;
". . . remember that, yeah?"
“Remember that, yeah?
"You have to tell him, Sioned"
Eileen is at Penrhewl, advising Sioned, “You’ll have to tell him before he tells the rest of the village.” Sioned has been trying to do that, but the vet turned up, followed by Mathew’s mother.
`"While his mother's here?"
“Am I supposed to tell him while his mother’s here?” she demands, but Eileen insists that the longer she leaves it, the harder it will be.
Melfa comes back in
Mathew and his mother come in, having been for a walk;
"Mam has brought something for us"
he tells Sioned that his mother has brought something for them. “I haven’t spent anything on it, as Mam brought it down – Gran’s old ring.
"I don't have many family things"
“I don’t have many family things, as you know, so this means a lot.
This time Mathew wants to do it properly
“I’m glad that you’re both here to see me do this properly this time.”
He kneels before Sioned . . .
He takes the traditional pose, on one knee,
. . . and proposes to her, again
asking, “Sioned, I love you so much and I want to spend the rest of my life with you – one little family – you, me, Jac and Lili. So will you make me the happiest person in the world, Sioned? Will you marry me?”
Sioned looks aghast
We do not see Sioned’s response, or lack thereof.
Ieuan is trying to track down Kelly
Ieuan is desperately trying to track down Kelly and Anita. Now he is at Brynawelon, speaking on the phone to Amanda, “If you hear anything, let me know – I’m worried sick.”
"We had a picnic with sausage rolls!"
As soon as he has ended the call, he sees Anita coming in through the door with Kelly, who says, “Look who’s here already!”
Anita informs him that they have had a picnic with sausage rolls,
"Oh – Siwsi!"
then is greeted by Siwsi, who says that she has been looking forward to this.
"Where have you been?"
Ieuan angrily demands where they have been,
"I need some quality time with Auntie Neet"
but Kelly simply replies, “I needed some quality time with Auntie Neet – and we’re here now, OK?”
Siwsi remarks that she is in good spirits, with Kelly explaining, “I wanted her to have some fresh air before arriving.”
"You go and see Eleri in the office"
Siwsi directs Ieuan to see Eleri in the office
"We'll make sure Anita has her dinner"
and then she will make sure Anita has her dinner and settles in.
Cassie returns from her errand . . .
Cassie is heading back towards the Deri,
. . . and is still being watched
with the hooded figure seen earlier still watching her;
She has the feeling that she is being followed . . .
she senses that she is being followed,
. . . but cannot see anyone
but when she turns around, there is no sign of anyone.
She goes back into the Deri
Coming back into the bar, she is welcomed by Dani, who informs her that the place is thriving and the takings have quadrupled.
"I want to support Gaynor in court 'next week'"
“Listen, if you fancy, I want to go and support Gaynor in court next week, so I need . . .”
You had a visitor – Owain something"
Dani will be happy to oblige and advises that Cassie had a visitor while she was out; “Ows – Owain something.”
"Owain Wilson – he's my grandson"
“Owain Wilson?” says Cassie with surprise, “He’s my grandson –
"Your grandson?"
“I know I don’t look old enough. I’ve never met him – I wrote to him about a month and a half ago, but I didn’t know whether he was still at the same address.
"Did he say what he wanted?"
“Did he leave a number or say what he wanted.”
"No – but I'm sure he'll be back"
Dani replies that he did not say, but is sure that he will come back. Cassie is confident of that as well, although she does look troubled.
"Now might be a good time to leave"
Siwsi suggests to Kelly and Ieuan that now might be a good time to leave, but she stresses that there is no hurry. “It can be easier when she’s busy.”
"Keeping things casual?"
“Keeping things casual is the best way, is it?” asks Kelly and is recommended that they should not say goodbye, in case she gets upset.
"Say you're just popping out"
They should rather say that they are just popping out or will not be long – that sort of thing.
Then Siwsi goes to speak to Anita; “Right, shall we go for this slap-up meal, then?”
"We won't be long"
Kelly and Ieuan tell her that they are just popping out and will not be long.
"Chocolate cake for pudding"
Anita is helped along and told that they will be having soup followed by pasta; “And a stunning chocolate cake for pudding!”
They forlornly watch her go
As they stand forlornly watching her go, Kelly says, “This is it, then.” Ieuan agrees that there is no turning back now.
"It's a lovely ring . . ."
Eileen admires the ring on Sioned’s finger
". . . but why did you say yes, again?"
and asks, “Why did you say yes, again?”
"What was I supposed to do?"
“What was I supposed to do? You saw the look on his face – and Melfa was there, so happy that we were using Nain’s ring.”
"Do you think she knows you're struggling?"
Eileen suggests, “Do you think Matthew told her that he can’t afford his own ring and Melfa brought this because she knows you’re struggling.”
Melfa is back
Melfa comes back into the room and again Eileen says what a pretty ring it is. “It means a lot to Math that we are using something from the family,” adds Sioned.
"I must go now"
Eileen must go now, or there will not be a parking space outside the school;
Melfa will follow her
Melfa follows her out and Sioned is looking even more confused.
"Eileen!"
Outside, Eileen is asked whether everything is all right;
"Are things tight for them?"
“There’s been a lot of talk about money – are things tight for them? I suspected it was that they’re struggling on the farm as it is.”
"It's the same for a lot of farms"
Eileen replies that it is the same for lots of farms at the moment;
"If only Mathew would accept the money"
“If only Matthew would accept the money I offered – I have money from my father –
"It's supposed to be for him, but he won't touch it"
“it's supposed to be for Matthew, but he won’t touch it.”
"I can understand why not"
Eileen can understand why not, but Melfa hates to see them struggling, unable to afford a nice wedding, with all that money just sitting there.
"What if I gave it to you?"
“What if I gave it to you? Mathew won’t take it and I would never ask Sioned behind his back, but if I gave you the money, you could pay for things. A venue, food, a honeymoon, perhaps.”
"I don't know about that"
"You could say it comes from you"
but is told that she could say it comes from her; “I’d feel much happier if I knew I was helping Mathew and his wife, making their lives easier. Please, Eileen, just think about it.”
Now it sounds like a better idea
She goes back to the farmhouse and Eileen is sorely tempted.
"So what now?"
The door of number 7 opens; Ieuan and Kelly walk slowly in. “So what now?” he asks, “It doesn’t feel real, does it?”
"I'm expecting her to walk down the stairs"
“I’m expecting her to walk down the stairs any second,” Kelly groans.
"I'll go and make some dinner"
Ieuan proposes to make them some dinner, but Kelly does not have any appetite
"No, neither have I"
and he realises that neither has he.
"We have done the right thing, haven't we?"
“We have done the right thing, haven’t we?” Kelly demands, but he urges her not to do this now,
"We've done what we think is right for her"
pointing out that the two of them and Diane have done what they think is right for her.
“There will be less pressure on you and me, and we’ll have some free time back –
"She'll be getting the best care"
“but what’s important is that Anita will receive the best care and she’ll never be on her own.
![]() |
Kelly does not look entirely convinced
“That’s what’s best for everyone – you’ll see.”
In the Deri flat . . .
Cassie walks into the Deri flat
. . . Cassie receives a considerable shock
and is very shocked to find the word ‘murderer’ scrawled on the wall,
There is a newspaper page
together with an old newspaper cutting, ‘Valleys Mother Slays Son in Revenge Attack’,
Cassie is extremely concerned
with a picture of her and Steffan.
