| Liv looks reasonably happy |
In her new flat, Liv is looking reasonably happy with her baby, who seems to have grown quite considerably, and now is crying loudly.

Cai comments that is lungs are working. “He slept better last night,” she says,

“It must be that teddy you gave him – the white noise it makes settles him,” so Cai is glad that he bought it.

She asks if he can look after Gwydion for a while, so she can get a shower, but he replies that he has to go to work, as he told her last night. “I need the money to pay for Lleucu’s driving lessons and birthday party.”
He assures Liv that she can do this,

but she protests that she has not been alone with the baby for that long before and she does not know anyone in the area. She adds that she is really tired.

Cai points out that he cannot be there all the time; “Gwydion is your baby – and you’re a good mother – try to leave this place for a while today, OK?”

When he has gone she looks depressed.

In the deli, Eileen serves Garry with his coffee; he asks, “What time does Britt’s thing start in Bethania?” Eileen informs him that it is not just Britt’s event;

| "Flat white with out milk, please" |
Eleri comes in for her flat white with oat milk and Eileen hopes to see her at Bethania today. “It’s important that local businesses are supportive.”

When Eleri does not know what she is talking about, Garry explains that it is Britt’s homelessness project.
“I’ve got more important things to do,” Eleri answers,

“Can I have one of those granola pots as well – but without the raspberries – it was too sour yesterday."

Garry suggests, “Perhaps helping out today would be a good advert for Brynawelon,”

but Eleri is adamant that feeding the homeless is not in her contract.
She tells him to go, but then remembers that nobody is supposed to know that he owns Brynawelon.

On his way to the door, he raises the subject, “Eleri, about what happened . . .”

She insists that there is no need to talk about it.

Diane has gone to the MFC flat,

where Britt complains that she does not have enough people to help; “Colin was supposed to get the bread and help me set up, but he’s ill.”
Diane replies that she is there to help and Eileen is also coming;

“Yes, but we can’t rely on her, can we? She’s only there for the publicity.” Diane intends that Eileen will do her share.

Diane imagines that everyone in the county knows about it, but Britt wants to remind people again.
Diane insists that they do not have time and can see that something is going on;

Diane insists that she has not done anything wrong and should not feel guilty. Britt maintains that he has not done anything wrong either and proposes to go out looking for him.

Diane makes it clear that there is too much to do for that; “Ben isn’t the only one who needs our help. I’ll get the bread while you start to set things up –

Garry walks through the lounge at Brynawelon, greeting his dominoes partner, Elfed, but on reaching his room, finds a cleaner inside;

“Oi! I’ve said I don’t want anyone going through my stuff!” he rages, so the cleaner beats a hasty retreat.

Eleri protests, “Hey, you can’t talk to my staff like that!” Garry makes it quite clear that he does not want anyone in his room. “Today is her first day,” Eleri tells him,

She wants to discuss something with him, coming straight to the point; “I need you out – someone else wants a room.”

Garry demands where he is supposed to go, but she does not care, reminding him, “Unlike you, she’ll be paying!” Garry tells her that they can talk later,

Eleri notices the photo of Gwern and Seren on his bedside table,

He walks out of his room.

Britt is deploying the folding beds in the vestry at Bethania when someone from the charity arrives and is welcomed;

“I know there’s a lot of work to do, but a lot of people are on the way to help – it will be great!”

Garry arrives, asking what they want him to do; Britt is surprised to see him,

so he tells her, “Diane said that Colin was ill, so I’m here to help – because I know how important this is to you –

“if it’s important to you, it’s important to me. Anyway, I know how stressed and nervous you get – I don’t think that woman is ready to see that!”

She confesses that she is desperate.

| Liv is in the deli . . . |
Liv has taken the baby out and is at present in the deli,

where she manages to drop Gwydion’s dummy on the floor. Eileen offers to sterilise it,

but at that moment Iolo comes in, looking thoroughly disappointed and comments to Eileen, “I wouldn’t give him that dummy.”

Eileen maintains that it does not do any harm if the baby is crying;

he answers, “Well, he didn’t cry with me!”

Liv picks up Gwydion and puts him back in his pram as Iolo asks for a cappuccino, then she quickly leaves the deli, but not before Iolo has commented, “He’s not even wearing socks!”

Britt replies that she has never found anything she is good at, but he considers that she is good at everything;

She goes on that she has always thought that everyone, apart from her, has a ‘thing’.

In that case, he asks what is his ‘thing’;

“Finding trouble – going to jail,” she laughs. “But lately I’ve realised that my ‘thing’ might be helping people – I want to do more of it.”

Garry stresses that she does more than most with the fostering,

but she argues, “What happens to those people once they turn 18, Gar? We know better than anyone how hard it is, with no help out there. Things could have been so different for you, me and Brandon.”

Garry says that he is proud of her, but she does not trust him when he is like this. He maintains, “Us two, we’ve been through a lot recently and perhaps I’ve changed as well.”

Eleri comes in with a box of cakes, explaining that chef forgot they had a cooking class today, so they had too many cakes. Then she tells Garry, “I just didn’t want to throw them in the bin,” as she walks out again.

The first of the homeless people arrives, and Britt gives him a warm welcome.

She protests once again that she is clean, but he sneers, “For now – but it’s only a matter of time.”

As Liv hurries to get out of the shop,

he continues, “But there we are – we’ll be ready in Y Felin when that happens.”

She is sobbing as she walks along the road away from the shop

Things are in full swing in the vestry as Eileen brings in her contribution of cakes and sandwiches.

Diane wonders if she has seen Ben, but she has not;

Liv is back at the flat, kicks off her shoes and sits on the sofa; the baby does not sound very happy. Cai comes in and she is surprised to see him.

“I finished early to see Lleucu, but she didn’t want to see me,” he groans and asks what Liv did this afternoon.

“Not a lot,” she replies and stresses that Gwydion is all right.

He cannot understand why she is asking that.

“I put a dirty dummy in his mouth, I haven’t dressed him properly – and I’ve lost the only teddy that settles him.” She is assured that none of those things are important.

“Perhaps not – but I need help – I can’t do it on my own. I just want to know, can I really rely on you?”

Later Garry is back at the vestry where he informs his sister that he is not washing up but is happy to dry. He assumes that everything went well,

so Garry tells Diane he will have a word with her. Eleri comes in again,

“Has Garry gone to the chapel?” Diane advises her not to follow, as he wants to talk to Britt.

She answers, “I don’t know what I believe at the moment. I just know that this place gives me comfort. It started when I felt low over Christmas – lonely without any of the Monks.

As they sit together in the chapel, Garry asks, “What do you think happens to us after we die?”

After some thought, Britt replies that she chooses to believe that there is another life out there for them somewhere.

“That’s the only way I can cope with all the loss. I need to know that there’s a better place for them,” then she notices that Garry is on the brink of tears, so tells him not to get upset.

“None of this is true, Britt, it’s all lies,” he snarls, so she asks him what is going on, urging him to talk to her, as it might help.

“I can’t stop thinking about Seren!” he begins and Britt can understand how he feels. She realises that it must be so hard for him to be back in the village without her. They all miss her so much.
