Jinx and Kelly leave their houses

Both Kelly and Jinx come out of their respective front doors at the same time and she asks him if there have been any developments:
“No, she’s still not talking to me,” is his reply.

The last thing I wanted was to cause issues

Kelly is so sorry;  “The last thing I wanted to do was create issues for you.”

"How's the artistic masterpiece coming along?"

Then the door of number 7 opens again and this time Ieuan comes out, asking how the artistic masterpiece is coming along.

"I wouldn't call it a masterpiece"

Jinx would not call it a masterpiece,

"It had better be for that price!"

but Ieuan complains, “It had better be for that price!”

"Not a masterpiece yet"

Kelly intervenes to point out that what Jinx meant was that it was not a masterpiece yet.   “Well, masterpiece or not, it has to be ready earlier than expected –

Ieuan has arranged a great unveiling

“since I’ve organised a buffet and champagne for the big reveal – I’ll be in touch,” says Ieuan.

Eleri leaves the shop

Eleri emerges from the shop across the road

"Now's your chance"

Kelly advises Jinx, “You need to talk to her, but he walks away without doing so,

"Are you coming to my surprise party?"

so she takes matters into her own hands;  “Are you coming to my surprise party this afternoon?”

"Can't be much of a surprise, then"

does not regard it as much of a surprise party if Kelly knows about it.   “Anyway, are you coming?” Kelly ploughs on,

"I might"

and Eleri replies that she might.

Eileen and Siôn are walking past the Deri;  she urges him to hurry as they have not got all day.

Brynmor appears to be pleased with Hywel

At that moment outside the Quantum Hydro Works office, Brynmor is congratulating Hywel

"What is going on?"

and Eileen wonders what is going on.

"We've accepted Tom's and Gaynor's offer"

Eleri asks whether they are there about the plot, then informs them, “Tom and Gaynor made an offer last night – and it was a good one – so we’ve accepted it.”

"Don't you even want to hear our offer?"

“Don’t you even want to hear our offer?” demands Eileen, but she is told that she is too late,

"I can show you another plot"

however Eleri can show them another plot close to the one they saw yesterday.

“No, thanks – that was the best plot – we’re not interested any more,” Eileen snarls.   Siôn thanks Eleri for all that she has done for them,

"This is all your fault!"

then Eileen turns on him;  “This is all your fault!”

Siôn contests this

Siôn points out that he was not the one who threw cold water over his idea at the last minute, so she walks away in a temper.

Kelly fiddles with her hair

Kelly is now at number 9, sitting for her portrait, but keeps adjusting her hair,

"You're like a maggot!"

which irritates Jinx;  “I can’t do this – you’re like a maggot!”

"I can only take so many insults!"

This is the last straw;  she says, “Enough – I can only take so many insults in one day!   You’re awful company today!

"Go and get your 'muse' back, will you?"

“Go and get your ‘muse’ back, will you?”

"She's not interested"

He groans that he cannot as she is not interested.   “Really?   Well, do you know what?   She was asking about you earlier –

"For the hundredth time, sort it out!

“so please, for the hundredth time, sort it out!”

She walks out

With that, Kelly walks out of the house.

Kath looks at the Deri accounts . . .

Kath is looking at the Deri’s accounts

. . . then her honeymoon photos

and then pictures of herself and Brynmor.   Anita and her sister Amanda are also there;

Anita sneaks up and surprises her

“Those are your honeymoon photos, are they?” asks Anita.

“Anita, you almost gave me a heart attack” Kath tells her and she realises that she should not have been so nosy.

"Do you mind us using Blutack?"

She has come upstairs to ask if Kath minds them using Blutack to decorate the Deri.

"As long as you do a bit of dusting while you're at it"

“No, not at all, as long as you do a bit of dusting for me while you’re at it,” Kath tells her.

"It's hard to let go"

Anita sympathises with her that it is hard to let go, as she very well knows, then they go back downstairs to continue with the decorations.

She looks again at the photos

Kath is left to ponder upon the pictures and her relationship.

"They've gone to Swansea to celebrate"

Hywel and Brynmor come back into the office;  “Have you heard from Gaynor and Tom?” he asks and is told that they were thrilled, so have gone to Swansea to celebrate.

Obviously not happy

Eleri is sitting behind the desk, making no comment.

"There's no need to sulk"

She is told by her father that there is no need to sulk, as someone had to sell the plot first.

"I'm working"

She maintains that she is not sulking but just working;

"First rule of business"

her father continues, “First rule of business – acknowledge success – so shake his hand.”

She forces herself to shake Hywel's hand

She does so, very reluctantly,

"Go and get us a bottle of fizz"

then is instructed by Brynmor, “Go and get us a bottle of fizz so that we can celebrate – I’m sure you’ll get something in Tamed.”

"Kath – is everything all right?"

She walks out of the office in a huff, just as her father’s phone sounds and he is surprised to find that it is a call from Kath.

"Watch where you're going!"

Jinx is passing the deli and almost bumps into Eleri, on her way to obey her father’s instructions;  “Watch where you’re going!” she snarls, “You’re like the BFG!”

"I have a surprise for you"

He announces that he has a surprise for her;

"How old do you think I am – six?"

“Surprise?   How old do you think I am?   Six?” is her response.

“Just go with it – I’m trying my best here,” he pleads,

"Be quick, then"

so she tells him to be quick as she has an important job to do for her father.

"Come over to my place before Kelly's party"

“Come over to my place before Kelly’s party,” he goes on.

“Why should I?   You’re lucky I’m talking to you on the street,” she tells him,

"Please, Eleri"

but he continues his pathetic pleading as she goes into the deli,

Eileen prepares for the party

Siôn is sitting in the shop flat, looking angry, as Eileen has prepared herself for the party;  “Oh – you made an effort,” he says,

Siôn apologises to her . . .

“Look, I want to apologise for dragging my feet with the offer – I know it’s part of the reason we lost the plot, so I’m sorry.”

She gives him a kiss and he wonders if she has anything to say to him;

. . . then wonders if she has anything to say to him

“An apology for me, perhaps?”

"Why would I apologise?"

She cannot understand why she would possibly apologise to him, so he tells her to forget it.

"I already have"

“Are you going to change for the party?” she asks and he answers that he has already done so,

She evidently disapproves

but she looks disapproving.

"Where's Jinx when you need a tall person?"

As they are busy putting up decorations in the Deri, Anita demands, “Where’s Jinx when you need a tall person?”

"I wasn't expecting you to phone . . ."

Kath and Brynmor are sitting opposite each other and he says that he was not expecting her to phone,

". . . but it was nice to hear your voice"

but it was nice to hear her voice.   He adds that it is looking good in the Deri;  she tells him that Anita and Amanda have done most of it.

"We'll be here all night"

Then she broaches the delicate subject;  “Listen, someone had better say something or we’ll be here all night.   I still haven’t heard from your solicitor – is there something wrong?”

"I've been busy"

He gives the excuse that he has been busy with the business – and he did get those photos on Facebook, by the way.

"A lot of water has gone under the bridge"

She recalls that a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then

"Too much"

and he comments, “Too much – but we don’t want to have an awkward divorce, do we?”

"Well, you're letting me have the Deri"

She replies that as he is letting her have the Deri, there should be no problem, but he points out that there will always be something between them, maintaining that he will never find anyone else like Kath.

"A divorce without fuss, is it?"

“So, a divorce without any fuss, is it?” and Kath agrees.

"I'm going to get Kelly now"

Anita calls for everyone’s attention;  “I’m going to get Kelly now – and then we’ll have a bit of hush when we come back here, OK?”

Is that not Gwynfor on the right?

Siôn and Eileen come in and he is surprised to see Amanda there;  Eileen on the other hand, looks decidedly sour.

Jinx has another work in progress

At number 9, Jinx is working on another portrait and looks at the time on his phone.   Eleri arrives at the door and he welcomes her in;

"What's this surprise, then?"

“What’s this surprise, then?” she asks, “I can’t wait.”

"I was inspired to do a portrait of you"

Jinx announces that he was inspired earlier to do a portrait of her

"To show you how much you mean to me"

and shows her the result, explaining, “I know we haven’t seen eye-to-eye lately, but I just wanted to show you how much you mean to me.”

She is surprised

She is rather taken aback, remarking that

"Not the usual sort of present"

this is not the kind of present she is used to getting.

"I thought you might appreciate it"

“I wasn’t expecting you to say you liked it, but I thought perhaps you would appreciate it,” he groans,

He explains the various colours

“You see these blue shapes here?   That’s your strength.   The flashes of red is your passion – and that light blue is that tender side you hide from everyone – apart from me –

"Well, you used to"

“well, you used to.”

"You think I'm going to forgive you and sleep with you"

She replies, “I know what your game is.   You think I’m going to forgive you and sleep with you.”   He comments that it would be nice and emphasises that he wants her and likes her a lot.

She kisses him . . .

She kisses him,

. . . but will not forgive him . . .

but warns, “I’m not going to forgive you,”

. . . however, as for the 'sleeping' bit . . .

then leads him upstairs.

"They're coming round the corner"

Ieuan tells everyone in the Deri that they are coming around the corner so the lights should be extinguished.

"Everyone must be on holiday"

Anita and Kelly come in, with Anita wondering if the place is still open;  “Everyone must be on holiday!”

Yes, it definitely is Gwynfor

Then, of course, the lights come on and everyone jumps up, shouting, “Surprise!”

Kelly, rather over-enthusiastically, shows signs of amazement.

Kelly rather overdoes the surprise

“Seriously?   A party?” she squeals, with Anita wondering who else turns 40 today;

Anita hugs Kelly

she gives Kelly a hug .   “I can’t believe how much effort you’ve gone to!”

Anita explains that all of them have been involved;

"I remembered the exact date"

“And to think that I remember the exact date you came into this world!”

"You got the date wrong"

Her sister rather inadvisedly shatters this illusion, by commenting that Anita has wrong day.

"I get a double celebration!"

Kelly does her best to save the occasion, by reminding everyone that it is a win-win for her;  “I get a double celebration!” then reprimands her mother for saying anything.

The music is turned on and Ieuan Griffiths begins his gyrations;  he recalls that he and Hazel used to have dancing lessons,

"Want a dance, Ieuan?"

so Amanda volunteers to dance with him

Kelly cringes

and Kelly cringes.

"Do you like it, then?"

She happens to be standing next to Brynmor, who comments, “Do you like it, then?”

He looks at the bracelet

looking down at her bracelet.

"No-one can buy me!"

“You?” she exclaims and he describes it as it just a little something to say Happy Birthday.   “Thanks, but no one can buy me!” Kelly assures him.

"I want to say sorry"

He is quick to point out that he did not want to do that and also wants to say sorry for quarrelling with her the other day.

The bracelet is given back

“Apology accepted,” she says, but still hands the bracelet back to him.

"How long have I been asleep?"

Jinx is continuing to work on his painting when Eleri comes back downstairs, asking how long she has been asleep and reproving him for not waking her.   “Well, what do you think?” he asks

"Honestly, it is amazing!

and she is forced to admit that it is amazing.

He is about to kiss her, but . . .

He is about to give her a kiss, but she recoils, complaining,

"No cwtches!"

How many times do I have to say?   No cuddling!”

"Sorry if I was tactless"

Amanda is sorry if she was tactless, but Anita replies that she was only being honest;  “As far as I’m concerned, Anita, I’m not going to treat you any differently.”

"I haven't seen you since we . . ."

When Anita walks away, Siôn is standing nearby and asks her how things are going.   “Fine – but I haven’t seen you since we . . .”

"Siôn is with me now!"

Eileen has not missed the fact that they are talking and comes across;  “Are you stupid or something?   Siôn is with me now!”

"Siôn is so sophisticated . . ."

Amanda would never have put the two of them together;  “I mean, Siôn is so sophisticated –

". . . you look like a country bumpkin!"

“and you look like a country bumpkin in that dress!”

"Don't take any notice of her"

Siôn urges Eileen not to take any notice, maintaining that she looks wonderful.

"I should never have mocked your idea"

“Thank you, Siôn – I should never have mocked your idea about the centre in front of Eleri – I am sorry.”

Siôn kisses Eileen

Siôn kisses her.

Jinx and Eleri come in

Jinx and Eleri come in;  “Kissed and made up, have you?” enthuses Kelly.

"Happy Birthday, old lady!"

Jinx wishes her, “Happy Birthday, old lady!”   Kelly is glad that they are still friends

They hug

and they hug each other.

"I'm off to the gents'"

At the bar, Brynmor and Hywel are sharing a joke;  when Hywel goes to the toilet,

Eleri takes out the necklace . . .

Eleri takes from her bag what her father told her to steal from Kath.   “Mam-gu Mwmbwls’s necklace,” she says,

. . . but Kath keeps her eyes open

just as Kath happens to be passing.   Her father congratulates her and tells her to hide it.

"Come on, Kelly – speech!"

Ieuan Griffiths calls upon Kelly to make a speech;

"Thank you all for making such an effort"

“Well, thank you all for making such an effort tonight – you all look ‘stonking’!

"Thanks to Mam . . ."

“But the biggest thanks though has to go to Mam, obviously, well, you know, for bringing me into the world, like – and Auntie Neet for, well, everything.

"Auntie Neet, you have been a rock to me"

“Auntie Neet, you have been a rock for me for the last, like, 40 years – and I want you to know that you still are.   So come on, then, let’s have a toast – to Mam, family friends and, of course, Auntie Neet,

"The bestest, most fabest auntie"

“for being the bestest most fabest auntie anyone could ever ask for!”

"It's Kelly's night tonight"

Anita protests that it is Kelly’s night tonight, but it is pointed out that it is all thanks to her.

"Can I go behind the bar?"

Kelly wonders if it is acceptable for her to go behind the bar.   “Birthday privileges and all that?”

"I'll buy you this"

Brynmor offers to pay for her drink, which he explains is something else to say Happy Birthday.

Kath is now behind the bar and will give Kelly her Prosecco.

"He's after you . . ."

Rhys warns Kelly that Brynmor is after her;

"Come on – buying you a bracelet?"

“Come on – buying you a bracelet?”

"You'd be amazed what you can see"

Meanwhile, Kath approaches Brynmor and informs him, “You’d be amazed what you can see from the other side of the bar.

"Mam-gu Mwmbwls' necklace"

“Come on now, Brynmor – Mam-gu Mwmbwls’ necklace.

"Don't you "Listen, now, Kath' me!"

“Don’t you ‘Listen now, Kath,’ me, do you understand?

"You had no right to do such a thing . . ."

“You had no right to do such a thing —

". . . getting Eleri to go through my things"

“getting Eleri to go through my things, stealing my jewellery.   Using little Gabs like that!”

"There's nothing motherly about you!"

She turns to direct her fury at Eleri;  “I should have clicked because there’s nothing motherly about you!”   Brynmor tries to stop her,

"I've had enough of you playing dirty!"

she insists, “No, I’m not going to stop – because you know why?   I’ve had enough of you playing dirty!   Whatever you can buy, you take it, don’t you?”

"All right, take it back, then!"

He reaches into his bag for the necklace;  “All right, OK, take it back then, all right!   take it!”

She reminds him that he said ‘a divorce without fuss’ earlier;

"We'll see about that, shall we?"

“We’ll see  about that, shall we?”

Brynmor retreats from the Deri

Humiliated, he storms out of the Deri, leaving all the partygoers stunned.

"What do you want – a selfie?"

Kath turns to them and asks, “What do you all want, then?   A selfie?   Come on, queue up.”
