10 September 2025 (2nd)

"Thank you for letting her stay"

Once again, Ffion is on the phone, this time speaking to Iolo;  “Thank you for letting her stay last night – it was just a silly argument that got out of control.

"Don't worry about tonight"

“Yes, I’ll bring her school uniform over this morning.   Don’t worry about tonight, because we’ll have sorted it out by then.”

Ffion is very upset

She is very upset.

Jinx wakes up . . .

At Cysgod y Glyn, Eleri awakens on the sofa with Jinx next to her;

. . . with a crick in his neck

he complains, “I don’t think I can move – I’ve got a crick in my neck.”   She predicts that after some coffee he will be fine and asks what time he finished.

“About four,” he estimates and she apologises for falling asleep;

"I'd offer to make breakfast, but . . ."

she would offer to make him breakfast, but . . .   He agrees that she had better not.

“Are you happy with it?” she wants to know,

"I'm afraid they won't like it . . ."

but he has no idea of the answer and is afraid that they will not like it –

". . . or even laugh at it!"

or even worse, laugh at it.   Eleri maintains that will be their problem;

"Too stupid to understand art"

It’s not your fault if they’re too stupid to understand art – right, I’m going for a shower.”

"He turned the other way to avoid me"

In the deli, Sioned is anxiously telling Dani, “I’ve sent a couple of messages, but no reply.   I saw him as I was leaving Elinor’s – he turned the other way to avoid me.”

"I'm really worried about Mathew"

Rhys has just come in so Sioned asks him, “Have you spoken to Mathew recently?   I’m really worried about him.”   Rhys tries to convince her that Mathew is all right, but she knows otherwise.

"He's finished with me for no reason"

“He’s finished with me without giving me any reason – I’ve tried everything – I’ve tried to talk to him – he can’t carry on like this!”

"Perhaps he just needs time"

course, Rhys is well aware of the reason, but simply suggests that Mathew may need more time.   “And what are we supposed to do in the meantime?” demands Sioned,

"Do we just sit back and let him suffer?"

“Just sit back and let him suffer?   It’s nice that he can rely on his friends!”

Rhys feels guilty

Now Rhys is feeling guilty, but still says nothing.

Ffion is driving out of Deri Fawr

As Ffion is driving out of Deri Fawr, she meets Arwen coming in

"Are you all right?"

and is anxious to know if her daughter is all right.   She says she was on her way to Y Felin with Arwen’s school uniform.

"I don't like you going through my stuff!"

“I don’t like you going through my stuff!” Arwen snarls and Ffion apologises.   “For going through my stuff or attacking me?”

"There's no justification for what I did"

Ffion starts by denying that she attacked her daughter, but then admits, “For everything.   There’s no justification for what I did, but I want you to know that hurting you is the last thing I want.

"How much have you told Iolo?"

“How much have you told Iolo?”

“About the slap or the affair?

"Is that all you care about?"

“Is that all you care about – what people will say?   Don’t worry, I haven’t said anything – too embarrassing!

"It's not me you should be worried about"

“But it’s not me you should be worried about – if someone has seen that, it’s over for you, Mrs Llywelyn.”

Arwen directs her mother's gaze to . . .

Arwen points towards

. . . the nearby CCTV camera

the camera on the end of the building,

"Don't expect me to stick up for you"

“And don’t expect me to stick up for you,” she adds as she continues walking towards the house.

Mathew comes out of the Deri . . .

Mathew comes out of the Deri, carrying his toolbox

. . . and Rhys calls to him

Rhys calls to him from outside the brewery;  “Have you got five minutes to help with these?”   There is a pile of boxes to be moved.

"I know you're busy, but . . . "

“I know you’re busy, but it would really help.   I promise I won’t force you to talk -

"I'm even willing to share my bacon roll"

“I’m even willing to share this breakfast roll – that must prove how desperate I am.”

"All right – but I want all of it"

Mathew enquires whether it has ketchup and when learning that it does,  wants all of it;  Rhys agrees.

Sioned is watching from a distance . . .

Sioned has been watching this exchange from over by the bus stop

. . . as they move the boxes

as they begin to shift the boxes.

Lleucu takes an interest in what they are carrying

As Lleucu is passing The Pizza Place, she notices Jinx and Eleri awkwardly carrying the picture along the road;  Jinx is anxious that the blanket should not blow off it and does not want to risk damaging it again.

"What is it?"

Lleucu asks Dani what they are doing, but she has no idea;  “What is it?” Lleucu calls to them

"A special portrait for Anita"

and Jinx answers that it is a special portrait for Anita.

"Why can't we see it?"

“Why can’t we see it?”

He confirms that he wants the family to see it first;  “An artist never shows a commission without the customer’s approval.”

"It's only a picture"

Lleucu argues that it is only a picture, not the crown jewels.

"Huw has spent hours on this!"

Eleri is rather irked by this, stressing, “Huw has spent hours on this – it’s really special – not that I expect you to understand.”

"Jinx used to paint a lot with Seren"

Dani recalls that Jinx used to paint a lot with Seren and Lleucu did not know that he was an artist.

"Some of his stuff is really weird"

Dani’s evaluation is, “He thinks he’s better than he is – some of his stuff is really weird, so good luck to Anita.”

"What if I don't like it?"

Meanwhile at number 7, Anita is seriously worried that she will not like it,

"I'm sure you will"

but Ieuan is naïvely confident that she will.

"Some people have work to do"

Hywel is becoming rather tired of waiting, pointing out that some people have work to do.

Ieuan reminds him that he was told to take the day off for the occasion.

"What's going on, Auntie Neet?"

Anita is practising smiling into her phone,

"I'm practising my happy face"

informing Kelly, “I’m practising my happy face, in case I hate it.   I don’t want to upset the man, do I?”   Ieuan urges her to have some faith.

"Here they are now"

Then there is a knock at the door

The masterpiece is brought in

and the eagerly awaited painting arrives, with Eleri telling them that Huw has spent hours on it.   “Well, can we see it then?   I’ve got things to do,” grumbles Hywel.

Jinx makes a speech"

First, Jinx would like to say something;  “This commission has been a special project from the start – it’s taken me on an emotional journey, to be honest –

"I've gone to some unique artistic places"

“I’ve gone to some unique artistic places.”

Kelly and Auntie Anita look at each other

Anita and Kelly look at each other with a measure of disbelief as he continues, “But because I have the honour of knowing you, I’ve been able to incorporate your personalities . . .”

"That's enough – I want to see it!"

Ieuan stops him there;  “That’s enough – I want to see it!”

There's a gasp of surprise

As he removes the blanket there is a collective gasp of surprise,

None of them can think of what to say

but initially no-one says anything.

Anita puts on a 'happy face'

Anita puts on one of her ‘happy faces’.

The last boxes are moved

The last of the boxes has been carried into the brewery

"Thanks for your help, Math"

and Rhys thanks Mathew for his help,

"I want more than a bacon roll next time"

but he decides that he wants more than a bacon roll next time.   “Are you all right, then?   I haven’t seen you for ages,” says Rhys,

"Sioned could come with us"

“We should go for a pint – Sioned could come with us.”

"We've finished"

Mathew sighs that they have finished;  Rhys is sorry to hear that and wonders if there was any specific reason.   Mathew knows exactly where this is going;

"Perhaps if you told her . . ."

“Perhaps if you told her, things would be different,” Rhys argues.

He is told by Matthew that he has no idea what went on between them;

"I'm worried about you

“You have no right to discuss it or tell me what to do.”   Rhys insists that is not what he was doing;  he is worried about Mathew going through this on his own.

Sioned is listening

Outside, Sioned is nearby and eavesdrops on the conversation, as Rhys continues, “Things don’t have to be like this – things need to change.   We can’t . . .”

"You talking about what happened . . ."

Mathew does not want Rhys to touch him, maintaining, “I’m trying to move on – but it’s impossible when you insist on talking about what happened all the time – it makes me feel sick!

". . . and seeing the way you look at me"

“And seeing the way you look at me – like you are now – makes the shame so much worse.”

"You shouldn't feel ashamed"

Rhys points out that he should not feel ashamed;  “But I do – I feel angry and I feel dirty –

"Every time I see you . . ."

“and every time I see you, it brings everything back.”

Sioned sadly turns and walks away

Sioned has by this time heard enough and walks away, very confused.

"I can't bear to be in the same room as you!"

“So from now on, don’t look at me, don’t talk to me, because I can’t bear to be in the same room as you,” growls Mathew,

Rhys is left alone

as he walks out of the brewery.

"Wonderful!"

Ieuan is trying to sound impressed;  “You know, the way the colours you’ve used flow into each other is wonderful.

Anita does not appear to agree

“It’s as if the portrait is talking to me.   I must admit, it’s not what I expected, but, well, you’re a genius.”

Hywel is clearly not impressed

While he has been speaking, the others have been exhibiting of a variety of facial expressions betraying their true feelings.   Ieuan turns to ask what the others think of it;

"It' really special"

Kelly pipes up, “It’s amazing – I think you’ve captured something really . . . special.”

"I've never seem myself in those colours"

Hywel simply maintains that he has never seen himself in those colours before,

"Huw has made you look a lot more interesting"

but Eleri caustically informs him that Huw has made him look a lot more interesting than he is,

Hywel walks out

so Hywel turns and leaves by the back door.

Jinx remarks that Anita is very quiet,

"It's perfect, honestly!"

so she responds, “Oh, I’m not sure what to say – but, well, it’s perfect – honestly!”

Jinx is relieved

This comes as a great relief to Jinx

"I was sure you would like it"

and Ieuan was sure that she would like it.

"Are you ready to go back up North?"

Lleucu is walking past the pharmacy when Ffion comes out, asking, “Are you ready to go back to North Wales?”

"Almost"

Lleucu replies that she is – almost.   “You’re braver than me,” Ffion adds, “Going to live with Val!   She always has her knife into someone –

"She's toxic!"

“I know she’s your grandmother, but she’s toxic!”

"Have you got five minutes?"

Then Ffion notices Tom outside MFC and goes to speak to him;  “Have you got five minutes?” she asks,

"Sorry, Ffion . . ."

but at that moment his phone rings,

". . . I have to take this"

so he has to walk away to answer it.

"I think they've slept together, Dan!"

Sioned has gone round to Maes-y-Deri to talk to Dani and is in a very troubled state;  “I think there’s something going on between Rhys and Mathew!” she exclaims, “I think they’ve slept together, Dan!”

Dani cannot believe that

Dani finds this hard to believe.

"Are you going to tell me what's wrong?"

As they eat their lunch at Cysgod y Glyn, Eleri wonders if Jinx is going to tell her what is wrong, “Or are you just going to keep tying knots in your chow mein?”

"I'm just worried about their reaction"

“I’m just worried about the reaction to the picture.”   When she reminds him that everybody loved it, he goes on, “What about Hywel?”

"You're not worried about what Hywel thinks?"

“You’re not worried about what Hywel thinks?   He has no taste,” she says, disparagingly, but he points out that he was thinking of Anita.

"Her face said something else"

“She said she liked it – but her face said something else.”

"You got paid – job done"

Eleri accuses him of being paranoid, stressing that he did a good job and got paid – job done.

“Do you think she would say if she didn’t like it?” he continues, but Eleri is tired of this and would like a night of not discussing the picture.   She emphasises that they are celebrating the fact that he has finished it.

“The only reason I ask is . . .”

"If Anita liked it, it will be hanging on the wall"

and she advises that if he is that worried, he should just go over there;  if Anita likes it, it will be hanging on the wall.

"Hey, that's a great idea"

He considers that to be a very good idea

He immediately leaves

and immediately gets up and walks out of the flat,

"I didn't mean do it now!"

although she insists that she did not mean him to do it now.

"That picture isn't going up on any wall!"

The true reactions at number 7 are now coming out;  “That picture isn’t going up on any wall!” Anita instructs,

"It doesn't look anything like me!"

but Ieuan reminds her that it has been done especially for her.   “It doesn’t look anything like me!” she shouts, so he explains that it is her personality.

"That's at the beauty of it"

Kelly adds that it is art;  “You can interpret it however you like – that’s the beauty of it.”

"There's no beauty in it!"

Anita is quite adamant, “There’s no beauty in it!” so Ieuan wonders what he is supposed to do with it now.   She instructs him, “That’s up to you, but it’s not staying in this house!”

"I paid £500 for that!"

He protests that he paid £500 for it, so she tells him that he should have asked a proper artist.

"That's a bit harsh!"

Kelly regards that as rather harsh, but Anita insists that it is true – and now she is going up for a bath.

Ieuan slumps in a chair

Ieuan slumps in a chair.

Kelly imagines that perhaps she may have changed her mind by the morning;  “But what if she hasn’t?” Ieuan asks.

"Did I leave my coat here?"

Then there is a knock at the door;  Jinx comes in, asking if he left his coat there earlier and peers around the room.   As it cannot be seen, he thinks he has left it somewhere else.

"You haven't hung it up yet, then?"

“You haven’t hung it up yet, then?” he comments

"No tools"

and Ieuan maintains that he does not have the tools.   “No hammer and nails?” sighs Jinx

"We'll get them for APD in the morning"

and Kelly says they will get them from APD in the morning.

"Do you think he knows?"

After Jinx has gone, Ieuan wonders if he knows,

"Jinx?   He has no idea!"

Kelly is confident he has no idea.   “Today was supposed to be a perfect day – a special moment –

"The whole thing was a waste of time"

the whole thing was a waste of time,” he sighs.

"I wanted to discuss the colour swatches"

Ffion is at Llwyncelyn, with the excuse that she wanted to discuss the colour swatches with Gaynor,

"She won't be home until late"

but is told that she is still at work and will not be home until late.

Tom apologises for disappearing earlier, but points out it was an important phone call.

"Did you see what happened – on CCTV?"

“I did want to discuss something with you,” says Ffion, “Did you see what happened – on the CCTV?”

"I did"

He agrees that he did and she wails, “I know it looks awful, but yesterday was just . . .”   Tom stops her there, maintaining that it was a private moment between mother and daughter.

“I can imagine what you think of me,” she goes on, “But I’m a good mother.”

"That's why I deleted it"

He knows that she is, stressing that is why he deleted the recording.   He insists that no one deserves to be judged for one silly mistake,

"I'm so grateful, Tom"

for which she is very grateful.

"Tea or coffee?"

Then he offers her tea or coffee.

"People keep secrets like this all the time"

Dani has made a cup of tea for Sioned who says, “I know how it sounds, but people keep secrets like this all the time, don’t they?

"Whatever it is, ~~Mathew doesn't want me to know"

Something has happened – and whatever it is, Mathew doesn’t want me to know.

"I gave everything to that relationship, Dani"

I gave everything to that relationship – I love him.

"It was obviously just a fling to him"

It was obviously just a fling for him.”

"You have to talk to him"

Dani reminds her that she does not know any of this and has to talk to him,

"There's no point"

but Sioned maintains there is no point because it is over – for him, anyway.

"Talk to him – and Rhys"

Dani tells her, “Look, you have to talk to him and Rhys, find out what went on – so you can clear your head.”

Mathew is locking up . . .

Mathew is locking the door of APD

. . . when Rhys comes in

when Rhys approaches;

"I've said everything I have to say"

“I’ve said everything I have to say,” Mathew tells him.

"I've had enough of feeling like this!"

“Well, I haven’t – and I’ve had enough of feeling like this!” Rhys snarls, “Nothing I do is right.   Tell me what I can do to help you.”

"I just want to be left alone"

Mathew simply wants to be left alone, but Rhys refuses to do that;

"I feel responsible for helping you"

“You chose to tell me and now I feel responsible for helping you!”

“The worst thing I did was tell you!” shouts Mathew.

Rhys continues, “I worry about you every hour of the day – I haven’t slept for weeks.”

Mathew furiously throws everything on the floor

Mathew yells that he is, sorry things are so difficult for Rhys and in his fury, throws the files from the counter on the floor.   “Just get out and leave me on my own!”

"Go on – get out!"

He opens the door

Rhys does so

and slams it again after Rhys has walked out.

Mathew pick up the papers . . .

Apparently, a glass has also been thrown to the floor, where it smashed, and as Mathew picks up the files,

. . . in the process cutting his hand

he cuts his hand, which is the last straw.

"Arwen's staying at Iolo's again"

Ffion has received another phone message from Iolo to inform her that Arwen has decided to stay at Y Felin again tonight.   Tom is sure that she will come home and Ffion hopes that he is right;

"I wouldn't blame her if she never spoke to me again!"

“But I wouldn’t blame her if she never spoke to me again,” Ffion groans, “Sorry –you don’t want to waste your night listening to me feeling sorry for myself.”

"You've made it totally clear who you've chosen"

He replies, “It’s not a waste if it’s with you,” and she tells him not to start this again, as he has made it totally clear who he has chosen.   He maintains that he still worries about her.

"I hit my daughter"

“A situation like this between a mother and daughter is natural,” Tom says, but Ffion stresses that she hit her daughter.

"Only a little slap at the most"

“It was a little slap at the most,” he judges.

“Whatever it was, Arwen hates me and I hate myself!”   He points out that he does not hate her,

"I think you're pretty incredible"

then, sidling up to her, continues that he thinks she is pretty incredible.

Ffion finds it impossible to resist him . . .

Ffion, as usual, cannot help herself,

. . . and they kiss

but kisses him, at which point the camera scans downwards

That footage is still there

to reveal that he has not in fact deleted that particular footage at all.
