| Dani come downstairs |
![]() |
| "So you slept here again lats night?" |
and is rather shocked to see Siwsi there; “So you slept here again last night?”
![]() |
| "Mark offered" |
Siwsi replies that Mark offered, as there were no taxis. “Doesn’t your mother have a spare bedroom?” Dani enquires and is told that the house is full at the moment with her sister’s family.
![]() |
| "I do appreciate you letting me stay here" |
“I really do appreciate you letting me stay here – and I’ll thank you properly when I’ve got some money.
![]() |
| "I've been offered some carer work" |
“I’ve been offered a couple of shifts as a carer – that’s what I used to do, you see.”
Dani tells her, “If you’re struggling or anything . . .”
![]() |
| "I shall have to get going" |
but Siwsi is anxious to get going as she cannot afford to lose this job at APD either.
![]() |
| "Are you sure you're all right?" |
Kelly comes out of number 7 and informs Anita, “I just have to go to ‘March’ to get a couple of things – are you sure you're all right with what we need from the shop?”
“I’ve got it here in black-and-white!” Anita complains,
![]() |
| "I don't think I've forgotten how to read!" |
“I don’t think I’ve forgotten how to read!” Jinx comes along the road and greets them,
![]() |
| "How is the portrait settling in?" |
asking how the portrait is settling with its new family and whether they have found a place to put it yet.
![]() |
| "Pride of place in the living room" |
Anita lies that it is up on the wall already and they were looking at it just now; she is backed up by Kelly, who maintains, “Yes, it has pride of place in the living room.” Anita adds, rather unnecessarily, that she loves it – it is perfect.
“We don’t have time to chat, Jinx. We’ve got loads to do today,” says Kelly,
![]() |
| Jinx is not convinced |
so he walks away, though obviously not convinced of their sincerity.
![]() |
| Anita is not quite sure . . . |
Kelly heads towards Y March Gwyn while Anita tries to think of what she is supposed to be doing.
![]() |
| . . . and when Lleucu shouts to her . . . |
Lleucu calls, “Good morning!” to her from the doorway of the shop,
![]() |
| . . . she is more confused |
but Anita does not seem to know quite where she is.
![]() |
| "Some bubbles to celebrate!" |
Inside the shop, Colin has opened a bottle, announcing, “Some bubbles to celebrate!”
![]() |
| "Isn't it a bit early, Col?" |
Lleucu consider that it is rather early, but he tells her not to worry;
![]() |
| "It's Nozeco" |
“It’s Nozeco –
![]() |
| "A toast to your last shift!" |
“a toast to your last shift!”
![]() |
| Lleucu is having doubts |
Lleucu is showing signs that she may be having second thoughts.
![]() |
| "Perhaps this portrait business was a mistake" |
Dani has just arrived to do the cleaning at the Deri as Jinx remarks to Eleri, “Perhaps this portrait business was a mistake.”
She reprimands him that there is no need for this self-pity, insisting that his work is good; “So please stop going on about this blinkin’ portrait!”
![]() |
| "I'll find out now" |
Ieuan comes in, so Jinx intends to find out once and for all; “Ieuan, how’s the portrait?”
![]() |
| "It looks great in the kitchen" |
He quickly confirms that it looks great in the kitchen,
![]() |
| "Kelly said it was in the living room" |
but Jinx points out that Kelly said it was in the living room, so Ieuan imagines that they must have have moved it.
![]() |
| "Anita doesn't lie it, does she?" |
“Anita doesn’t like it, does she?” groans Jinx, “It’s pretty obvious the way you’re all reacting.”
![]() |
| "It's different to what we were expecting" |
Ieuan simply explains that it is different to what they were expecting; no-one in their house understands modern art and Anita prefers more traditional things.
![]() |
| Jinx takes out his wallet |
Jinx understands and gets out his wallet, returning some of the money to Ieuan; “I’ll give you the rest another time –
![]() |
| "It's only fair that you pay half" |
“it’s only fair that you pay half if you’re not happy – you can spend it on a proper artist who can do something Anita likes.”
![]() |
| Ieuan walks away |
Ieuan cannot think of anything to say, so makes a hasty retreat, while Eleri looks disparagingly at Jinx.
![]() |
| The shop is unusually busy . . . |
In the shop, there is a queue of customers, which we do not see very often;
![]() |
| . . . and Diane is chatting at length |
Diane is just paying for her purchases and comments, “He was no help at all – Dai hasn’t stopped complaining since last week. I phoned the company to say – and they’re supposed to be sending someone else out today.”
![]() |
| "I'm in a bit of a rush here!" |
is the third in the queue and points out that she is in a bit of a rush,
![]() |
| "You're not the only one in this queue!" |
but Diane snaps at her, “Hey, you’re not the only one in this queue! I don’t see anyone else pushing to the front – cheek!”
![]() |
| Colin calls for assistance |
Colin calls to Lleucu to help with this sudden influx of customers; “Thank goodness we’re both here today to cope with the customers –
![]() |
| "What will I do without you?" |
“what will I do without you?”
![]() |
| "Who's leaving?" |
There is a card on the bar in the Deri, which Ieuan is signing, so Dani wonders who is leaving;
![]() |
| "Lleucu's going abc to North Wales" |
she is told, “Lleucu’s going back to North Wales to live – didn’t you know?”
![]() |
| "Did you send this?" |
Jinx goes over to Eleri, demanding, “Did you send this? An e-mail from Ifan Jones Evans from Radio Cymru.”
![]() |
| "I'm related to him" |
She reveals that she is related to him and wonders why he has contacted Jinx.
![]() |
| "Is commissioned me to do a painting" |
He’s commissioned me to do a painting of him.”
![]() |
| "He probably saw the pictures on Instagram" |
She imagines that he possibly saw one of the pictures she posted on Instagram.
![]() |
| "He's offered me £1,500" |
“He’s offered me £1,500!” Jinx exclaims, so she suggests that starting to paint again was not such a bad idea.
He suspects that Eleri sent the e-mail;
![]() |
| He fears he is being scammed |
“I’ve fallen for something like this in the past and I don’t want this to go the same way. Rhys pretended to be Angharad Mair and asked me to go on Heno.”
![]() |
| Eleri is amused . . . |
She finds this quite amusing, which irritates him,
![]() |
| . . . insisting that she has better things to do |
but stresses once again that she did not send the e-mail, maintaining that she has better things to do.
![]() |
| "I'd better get in some art supplies" |
He thinks that he had better get in some art supplies;
![]() |
| He kisses Eleri |
he kisses her and leaves the Deri. Ieuan and Dani are watching this,
![]() |
| "That was rather insensitive!" |
with Ieuan deeming it, “Rather insensitive – rubbing your face in it like that,”
![]() |
| "Jinx is old news" |
but she regards Jinx as old news.
![]() |
| "Do we have to have all this commotion?" |
Dai is, as usual, complaining, “Do we have to have all this commotion? You’ve hoovered that carpet so much there’s no pile left in it!”
![]() |
| "We have to keep standards up, Dai" |
Diane points out to him that cleanliness is important; she wants to set an example right from the start and keep standards up.
There is a knock on the door and it is anticipated that the carer has arrived;
![]() |
| "Behave yourself now!" |
“Behave yourself, now, Diane instructs, “They’ve said this new carer is more experienced – and they’ve arranged it at short notice, fair play.”
Dai shouts, “Come in, the door’s on the latch!”
![]() |
| Siwsi comes in . . . |
Of course it is Siwsi, who is greeted by Dai,
![]() |
| . . . coming face to face with Diane |
but then she sees Diane, who appears very unimpressed
![]() |
| Dai wonders what is going on |
and Dai cannot understand what is going on.
![]() |
| Ieuan assumes this is Kelly's date |
Kelly is on the phone, with Ieuan assuming that it is Deian, her date; “No, actually – and I don’t want to discuss my love life with you, all right? Thank you very much.
![]() |
| "Where's Auntie Anita?" |
“Where’s Auntie Anita?”
![]() |
| "I thought she was with you" |
Ieuan was under the impression she was with Kelly; “No, I went to ‘March’, she went to the shop – we only needed a few bits and that was an hour ago.”
![]() |
| Anita has left her phone behind |
She dials Anita’s number, but hears a ringing sound emitting from the sofa. Now they are really panicking;
![]() |
| "Where is she?" |
“Where is she?” demands Kelly.
![]() |
| 'Good luck, Lleucu' . . . |
Lleucu looks at her card,
![]() |
| . . . signed by her school friends |
containing all the signatures and thanks one of her school friends who is just leaving the shop.
![]() |
| "Another card?" |
“Oh, another card?” asks Colin; she tells him that it is from everyone at school,
![]() |
| "The token 'Gog' in the class" |
who maintain that they will miss the ‘token Gog’ in the class.
“I’m sure all your friends from North Wales will be pleased to have you back,” remarks Colin,
![]() |
| "And Val, of course!" |
adding, “And Val, of course!”
Lleucu says that she has never lived with her grandmother full-time before;
![]() |
| "I hope she's got a quieter mode!" |
“I hope she’s got another mode sometimes – a quieter one!”
![]() |
| "Have you seen Auntie Anita?" |
Kelly comes rushing in, asking if they have seen Anita;
![]() |
| Lleucu saw her earlier |
Lleucu reports that she was outside earlier. “If you see her, phone me, asap!” says Kelly as she hurries out of the shop.
![]() |
| This is alleged to be Swansea bus station |
Meanwhile, Jinx is in a bus station purporting to be Swansea, (although there are doubts about that) after purchasing some necessary art materials; he speaks to Eleri on the phone, “Yes, I got everything I need, so I’ll be on the next bus,” as he looks at the departure times, “I’ll phone you back when I’m on the bus.”
![]() |
| He notices a familiar face |
He looks up and notices a lone figure sitting on a bench, recognising her as Anita. He walks towards her and greets her, asking if she has been shopping.
![]() |
| "Perhaps" |
“Perhaps,” she replies,
![]() |
| "Are you on your own?" |
and he is concerned that she is on her own,
![]() |
| "My husband is over there" |
“No, I’m not – my husband is over there.”
![]() |
| "Do you want some company?" |
“Do you want some company while you wait for him?” Jinx asks,
![]() |
| "I don't think Meic would be very happy" |
but she laughs that Meic would not be very happy if he saw her sitting with another man.
![]() |
| "I'll have to play 'Defying Gravity'!" |
Dai seems to be getting on very well with Siwsi, who suggests, “I’ll have to play ‘Defying Gravity’ next time you go up that stairlift!”
![]() |
| "I would prefer Johnny Cash" |
He would prefer Johnny Cash, or a bit of ‘Led Zep’ –“Stairway to Heaven! Mind you, I don’t think my taste in music is quite the same as yours.”
![]() |
| "I listen to all sort of things" |
She tells him that she listens to all kinds of things when she does work like this.
He wonders how long she has been a carer; “On and off – I need any job I can get at the moment – with APD and this job,
![]() |
| "I can just about afford Barbara" |
“I can only just about afford Barbara – my car. She’s nothing special, but I love her. It’s the first thing I ever bought for myself, you know – I’m not quite sure where I’d be without her.”
![]() |
| "You'll have to take me for a spin" |
Dai would like her to take him for a spin; “With Johnny Cash at full blast!” she laughs, “Right, it’s time to take your tablets – do you want a cup of tea?”
He tells her that it is two lumps of sugar, if Diane is not watching,
![]() |
| "Get a box of Garibaldis as well" |
adding that she can get a box of Garibaldis as well.
![]() |
| "That's the Italian outside half, isn't it?" |
“That’s the Italian outside half isn't it?” she says,
![]() |
| "That's Garbisi" |
but he corrects her that it is Garbisi, assuming that she likes rugby. She particularly likes the women’s game.
![]() |
| Diane has been listening |
Diane has been listening to all this from the kitchen and when Siwsi comes in,
![]() |
| "Is everything all right?" |
she asks if everything is all right. Siwsi is proposing to give him a cup of tea to go with his tablets.
![]() |
| Dani comes to see Lleucu |
Dani comes into the shop to see Lleucu; “I hear that you’re leaving the Cwm.”
![]() |
| "She's going to the 'Gogs'!" |
Colin explains that she is going to live with her grandmother in the Gogs, but Lleucu is not looking very happy about it.
![]() |
| "I know things haven't been great between us" |
“Listen, I know things haven’t always been great between us, but I’m pleased for you.”
![]() |
| "I'm sorry about everything, Dani" |
Lleucu is also sorry about everything, but is told that everyone makes mistakes – it is the moving on that is important,
which makes Lleucu even more unhappy.
![]() |
| "I didn't know what else to do" |
Jinx has raised the alarm about Anita, so that Kelly and Ieuan have hurried there, with Kelly very relieved that he phoned. “I didn’t know what else to do – she just seemed not to recognise me and thought that Meic was waiting for her – it’s lucky that I happened to be here.
![]() |
| "It could have been a lot worse" |
“It could have been a lot worse.”
![]() |
| "We're here now and Anita is OK" |
In the background Ieuan is talking to Anita, as Kelly is very much aware that it could have been worse, but they are there now and Anita is OK.
![]() |
| "Shall we got to Kelly's car?" |
Ieuan proposes that they should go to Kelly’s car now,
![]() |
| "Would you like a lift?" |
and asks if Jinx would like a lift. “What?” shouts Anita,
![]() |
| "I don't want him to come in the car!" |
“I don’t want him to come in the car with us!”
![]() |
| "I'll catch the next bus" |
Jinx points out that all his art material will take up too much room and he will wait for the next bus, one of which already appears to be waiting.
![]() |
| "About this morning in the shop" |
At Bryntirion, Siwsi is told to leave the empty cups; “Listen, about this morning in the shop,” Diane begins
![]() |
| "Yes, I'm sorry about that" |
and Siwsi apologises about that. Diane would also like to apologise,
![]() |
| "You were trying to be on time" |
I heard you talking to Dai earlier – you were in a rush to get to work – trying to be on time – that should be commended.”
![]() |
| "You now where I am if you need any help" |
“Well, you know where I am if you need any help with Dai – or just a bit of time to yourself,” Siwsi assures her. Then she tells Dai that she is off now;
![]() |
| "Looking forward to seeing you again!" |
he is definitely looking forward to seeing her again.
![]() |
| "Are you going to moan about her, too?" |
Diane rather abruptly asks him, “Are you going to moan about her, too?”
![]() |
| "What sort of man do you think I am"?" |
“What sort of man do you think I am? If I say I like someone, I like them, all right?
![]() |
| "That Siwsi is top-notch!" |
“and that Siwsi is top notch – she’s welcome here any time she wants.”
![]() |
| "Don't hear that very often!" |
Diane shows surprise at all this praise from Dai.
![]() |
| Eleri is unsympathetic |
As they walk along the street, Jinx tells Eleri that it was sad to see Anita like that. “Don’t you ever get like that – I don’t want you calling me the names of all your exes!” is her callous comment.
![]() |
| They encounter Dani |
Then they meet Dani, who insists that she just wants this to stop;
![]() |
| "I'm fed up with you tiptoeing around me" |
“I’m fed up with you tiptoeing around me all the time.” Jinx explains that they were just trying to stay out of her way, and Dani wants that to stop, as they cannot avoid each other, so she is happy to be civil.
![]() |
| "Sorry for the way it all came out" |
Eleri adds that they are sorry for the way it all came out.
![]() |
| Anita is dozing . . . |
Anita is now dozing at home on the sofa,
![]() |
| . . . while Ieuan loads the washing machine |
while Ieuan loads the washing machine; he comments, “It was lucky it was Jinx who found her.”
![]() |
| "I was supposed to be keeping an eye on her" |
Kelly is feeling very guilty and apologises to him, but he pointed out that it was not her fault. “I was supposed to be keeping an eye on her, wasn’t I?” she sighs.
![]() |
| "It could have happened to any one of us" |
Ieuan reminds her that it could have happened to any one of them; they all forget how fragile she is sometimes.
![]() |
| "We have to be more careful, OK?" |
Kelly proposes, “You know, we have to be more careful, OK? Check our schedules, text each other to see where she is.”
![]() |
| "Perhaps we should think about some help" |
Ieuan thinks that perhaps they should think about getting her a bit of help sometimes as well, but Kelly replies that is not necessary. “You encouraged Dai and Diane to do it,” he reminds her.
![]() |
| "Auntie Neet has a family" |
“Diane’s on her own – Auntie Neet has a family,” Kelly very emotionally replies, “She’s got you, she’s got me – and Mam, to some extent – so no need!”
![]() |
| "I think she's having these bad days more often" |
Ieuan continues, “I know we’re trying to ignore it, but I think she’s having these bad days more often than we’re willing to admit.”
![]() |
| "She saw Jinx out of context" |
“She was confused this morning and saw Jinx out of context,” Kelly argues; Ieuan admits that he did not want to say anything at the time,
![]() |
| "She had an accident on the way home" |
but by the time they got home, Anita had had an accident – that is why he is putting on the washing machine.
![]() |
| "I understand!" |
Then they suddenly hear Anita’s voice, shouting, “I understand!” and hurry into the living room,
![]() |
| "I saw Jinx's picture!" |
where she is holding the painting and laughing.
“I had my eyes closed – and the first thing I saw when I opened them was Jinx’s picture.”
![]() |
| They are confused |
They look incredulously at her, as she explains further, “And for the first time, I understand it!
![]() |
| "It's messy – exactly the same as our family!" |
“Look – it’s colourful and it’s complicated and it’s messy – and it's exactly the same as our family – it's perfect!”
![]() |
| Now they are both smiling |
Kelly and Ieuan both smile with relief.
![]() |
| "Promise me you'll come and visit" |
As Colin locks up the shop at the end of the day, he tells Lleucu, “It will be quiet here without you, guaranteed. Promise me now that you’ll come and visit . . .”
![]() |
| He realises she is not there . . . |
then realises that he cannot see Lleucu.
![]() |
| . . .but hiding away, in a troubled state |
He finds her in the storeroom in a very upset state;
![]() |
| "Come on – it's not that bad" |
“Come on, then – it’s not that bad,” he says, “A new start – that’s what you wanted, isn’t it?”
![]() |
| "After seeing so many people . . ." |
She sobs that he does not understand; “After seeing so many people today and getting so many cards – everyone being so nice –
![]() |
| ". . . I've changed my mind" |
“I’ve changed my mind.”
“What? You don’t want to go?” Colin gasps,
![]() |
| "If you don't want to leave, you don't have to" |
“Well, if you don’t want to leave, you don’t have to, do you?”
![]() |
| "But Gran's arranged everything" |
She protests that her grandmother has arranged everything, she has finished her job there, the school up north has agreed to let her start late.
![]() |
| "I don't have a choice, do I?" |
“I don’t have a choice, Col – I have to leave, don’t I? But I don’t want to.”
![]() |
| Colin gives her a hug |
Colin gives her a hug.
